A Magical Success Story

The path to a third film was paved by the record-breaking success of Hocus Pocus 2, which debuted on Disney+ in 2022. The sequel became one of the most-watched original streaming movies in history, proving that the appetite for the sisters’ brand of chaos is stronger than ever. While plot details for the third chapter are currently being kept under wraps in a secret spellbook, the commitment from the main cast suggests a story that will continue to honor the legacy of the 1993 cult classic.

Impact on the Disney Parks

For those of us who spend our Septembers and Octobers at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, this news is especially exciting. The Sanderson Sisters are already the stars of the “Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular” at Magic Kingdom, and a third film ensures they will remain a cornerstone of Disney’s Halloween celebrations for years to come. Whether the new movie will debut in theaters or head straight to Disney+ remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: another glorious morning is on the horizon.

Disney to Launch New Charity License Plates for California Children’s Hospitals

California Disney fans, it’s time to trade in those plain white license plates for a little extra pixie dust!

A magical new collaboration has just been announced between the Disneyland Resort, the California Children’s Hospital Association (CCHA), and the California State Treasurer’s Office. Together, they are launching a brand-new Disneyland-themed specialty license plate, with proceeds going directly to support 13 children’s hospitals across the Golden State.

For years, Disney fans in Florida have been able to sport Walt Disney World plates to benefit Make-A-Wish, and now West Coast fans finally get their chance to drive with a purpose.

While the final design is still under wraps (Disney loves a good surprise!), the mission is clear. Revenue from the plates will be deposited into a state fund administered by the California Health Facilities Financing Authority (CHFFA). The funds will support essential healthcare services, clinical education, and patient-family support programs at hospitals including:

  • Children’s Hospital Los Angeles
  • CHOC (Children’s Health of Orange County)
  • Rady Children’s (San Diego)
  • UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals
  • …and many more across the state.

Disneyland Resort President Jill Estorino shared that this initiative carries forward Walt Disney’s personal legacy of visiting children’s hospitals to bring joy and comfort to patients.

Before these hit the road, there is one “mountain” to climb. The California DMV requires a minimum of 7,500 preorders before the plates can officially go into production.

Here is the breakdown of the costs:

  • Sequential Plate (Standard): $50 (with a $40 annual renewal fee)
  • Personalized Plate: $103 (with an $83 annual renewal fee)

Note: These fees are in addition to your standard annual vehicle registration.

Right now, the program is in the “Interest List” phase. You can head over to the California State Treasurer’s website to sign up. By joining the list, you’ll be the first to see the design reveal and get notified as soon as official preorders open.

After being orphaned, Soleil was brought to The Seas with Nemo & Friends at EPCOT for short-term specialized care. Guests recently noticed her name had been removed from the exhibit’s chalkboard, and Cast Members confirmed the exciting news: Soleil has officially been relocated to Welaka, Florida, for her return to the wild.

This charming town sits along the St. Johns River, a premier location for manatee releases. The area offers an abundance of fresh vegetation and a perfect natural environment for rehabilitated manatees to thrive as they reintegrate into the ecosystem.

While Soleil has returned to the wild, two other orphaned manatees, Tanimura and Cider, continue their recovery at The Seas with Nemo & Friends. Both have made incredible progress in their rehabilitation, showing significant weight gain over the last few months.

Tanimura, who arrived as a 300-pound calf last summer, has grown to a healthy 550 lbs. Meanwhile, Cider, a slightly older manatee who joined the facility in early 2025 at 750 lbs, now weighs in at a sturdy 1,055 lbs. These milestones are a testament to the dedicated care provided by the Disney animal teams as these manatees prepare for their own eventual return to the wild.

Disney Parks and Cruise Line Performance Hits Record $9.5 Billion Q2 Revenue

Disney parks and the Experiences division reported a record $9.5 billion in revenue for the second quarter of 2026. This performance marks a 7% year-over-year increase, fueled by higher guest spending and the growth of the Disney Cruise Line.

The Disney Experiences division set all-time Q2 records with $9.5 billion in revenue and $2.6 billion in operating income, representing year-over-year growth of 7% and 5%. Domestic theme parks remained a central driver, fueled by a 5% increase in per-capita guest spending on admissions, food, and merchandise.

The division also benefited from a surge in passenger cruise days following a massive year for Disney Cruise Line. This growth was anchored by the successful November 2025 launch of the Disney Destiny and the March 2026 maiden voyage of the Disney Adventure in Singapore.

Disney parks

The Disney Experiences division continues to leverage storytelling into high-return physical environments, driving record results despite initial costs for the World of Frozen and the Disney Adventure. While these pre-opening expenses impacted operating income by two percentage points, the segment still exceeded growth guidance.

Key Performance Highlights:

  • Domestic Growth: Per capita spending rose 5% across admissions, dining, and merchandise.
  • Global Reach: Total guest numbers—including parks and cruises—grew 2% year-over-year.
  • Strategic Expansion: Disney is utilizing a “capital-light” model to expand into Japan (cruise) and Abu Dhabi (resort) by partnering with local operators.
  • Cruising Milestone: The Singapore-based Disney Adventure has seen very strong bookings, successfully extending Disney’s reach to fans across Asia.

Looking Ahead: While domestic attendance saw a minor 1% dip due to fluctuating international visitation, the company is now moving past previous attendance headwinds. Despite global economic uncertainty, current demand remains encouraging, with domestic park attendance expected to improve in the third quarter.

Josh D’Amaro Confirms Disneyland Abu Dhabi Plans Amid Rising Middle East Instability

Josh DAmaro Confirms Disneyland Abu Dhabi Plans Amid Rising Middle East Tensions
The Walt Disney Company and Miral, Abu Dhabi’s leading creator of immersive destinations and experiences, announced an agreement to create a landmark Disney theme park resort in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The waterfront resort will be located on Yas Island, a world-class destination for entertainment and leisure, connecting travelers from the Middle East and Africa, India, Asia, Europe, and beyond. This seventh Disney theme park resort will combine Disney’s iconic stories, characters and attractions with Abu Dhabi’s vibrant culture, stunning shorelines, and breathtaking architecture.

Josh D’Amaro Confirms Disneyland Abu Dhabi Plans Amid Rising Middle East Tensions

During the Q2 2026 earnings call—the first under new CEO Josh D’Amaro—The Walt Disney Company addressed the elephant in the room: the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and its impact on the Disneyland Abu Dhabi project. Despite the instability in the region, D’Amaro and CFO Hugh Johnston emphasized that the “strategic logic” of the project is unchanged.

Plans for Disneyland Abu Dhabi Still On Track Despite Ongoing Conflict in the Middle East

Addressing the Regional Climate

The project, located on Yas Island, has faced questions from analysts regarding its feasibility as regional warfare impacts energy shipping and defense spending in the Gulf. However, Disney leadership clarified that they view the theme park as a long-term investment that transcends current geopolitical fluctuations.

The “Capital-Light” Advantage

D’Amaro highlighted that the project’s structure is a key reason for their continued confidence. By using a capital-light model, Disney is able to maintain a presence in the region without the massive financial exposure of a traditional resort build:

  • Miral’s Role: The Abu Dhabi-based developer Miral is responsible for the full financing, construction, and operation of the resort.
  • Disney’s Security: This licensing model allows Disney to earn royalties and management fees while the local partner absorbs the primary financial and security risks associated with the regional climate.

A Focus on the Future

While industry veterans like Jim Shull have noted that supply chain disruptions and a “tourism vacuum” could delay the project’s early 2030s opening, Disney is currently focused on the “enjoyable exchange of ideas” and creative design phases. By signaling their commitment now, Disney is betting that the “Gateway to the East” will be a cornerstone of their global portfolio for decades to come, regardless of the current landscape.

Josh D’Amaro Reports Walt Disney Company Revenue Hits Record High Despite Theme Park Attendance Dip

The Walt Disney Company has released its first-quarter financial results for 2026, marking a significant milestone as the first full quarter under Josh D’Amaro’s expanded leadership. The headline is a bit of a paradox: while overall theme park attendance saw a slight decline, the revenue for the Disney Experiences division actually hit a record high.

Breaking Down the Parks Performance

According to the report, domestic and international parks are seeing a shift in guest behavior. While fewer people are walking through the gates compared to the same period last year, those who do visit are spending more per person. This increase in “per capita spending” is driven by higher ticket prices, increased food and beverage costs, and the continued popularity of premium add-ons like Lightning Lane Premier Pass.

The Streaming Explosion

The biggest surprise in the report came from the entertainment sector. Disney’s streaming services—including Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+—saw operating income explode by 88 percent. This surge is attributed to a combination of strategic price increases, a crackdown on password sharing, and a massive influx of new subscribers following the release of high-profile theatrical hits onto the platform.

Josh D’Amaro’s Influence

In his first quarter overseeing the broader Disney Experiences umbrella, D’Amaro emphasized that the company is focusing on “quality over quantity.” The goal appears to be managing crowd levels to improve the guest experience while leveraging new technology and immersive storytelling to drive higher revenue per guest.

Future Outlook

Looking ahead, Disney expects the “Experience” segment to stay strong as major projects like the Muppet takeover of Sunset Boulevard and the new Soarin’ Across America debut later this year. While attendance may fluctuate, the company’s ability to monetize its core fan base and dominate the streaming landscape has put them in a very strong financial position for the remainder of 2026.

Central Florida Zoo Shares Heartbreaking Update on Death of Rescued Sloth Dumpling

The Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens has shared a somber update regarding the group of sloths recently rescued from the shuttered Sloth World facility in Orlando. Dumpling, one of the sloths who arrived in critical condition on April 24, has passed away after a sudden downturn in health.

The Fight for Dumpling

Dumpling had been under around-the-clock care for 11 days, battling a series of gastrointestinal (GI) and digestion issues. While the veterinary team observed several “ups and downs” during her stay, her condition took a rapid turn for the worse on Monday morning.

The zoo explained that sloths are biologically programmed to hide signs of extreme illness as a survival instinct. This often means that by the time an animal shows visible distress, their condition is already at a critical or irreversible stage. Additionally, because sloths have such slow metabolisms, it can take weeks for pre-existing health issues to manifest.

The Ongoing Rescue Mission

Dumpling’s passing follows the loss of two other sloths, Bandit and Habanero, earlier this month. Of the 13 sloths originally donated to the zoo from the “Sloth World” warehouse, 10 individuals remain under close monitoring in a dedicated 30-day quarantine space.

The surviving group includes two sloths currently in guarded condition, while the others are listed as stable. The zoo’s medical team is performing advanced diagnostics—including blood analysis and hormonal testing—to ensure the remaining sloths have the best possible chance for recovery.

A Community Effort

The Central Florida Zoo is working alongside the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) to determine the best long-term placement for these animals once they are fully stabilized. In the meantime, the cost of specialized food, emergency medicine, and constant staffing is considerable.

The zoo has expressed deep gratitude for the outpouring of support from the public. For those looking to help, the zoo is currently accepting donations to assist with the high costs of this unexpected and intensive rehabilitation project.

Disney Cruise Line Expands “The Play Project” Bringing New Sports Facilities to Youth Across The Bahamas

Disney magic is not just sailing the seas, it is making waves on land too. Disney Cruise Line has announced a major expansion of its “Play Project,” a community-driven initiative aimed at upgrading youth sports facilities across The Bahamas and creating more spaces for kids to play, learn, and grow.

Originally launched alongside the opening of Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point in 2024, the Play Project started with a mission to support local communities in Eleuthera. Now, that mission is growing, with new projects underway in Nassau and Abaco, bringing refurbished baseball fields, basketball courts, and track and field spaces to even more young athletes.

In its first year alone, the initiative transformed play spaces at six primary schools in South and Central Eleuthera, thanks in part to more than 230 Disney VoluntEARS who worked side by side with local communities. The result has been more than 32,000 hours of annual play for children, turning once-overlooked spaces into vibrant hubs of activity.

Now entering its next phase, Disney is teaming up with ESPN through its “Take Back Sports” initiative, which focuses on removing barriers to youth sports participation. The collaboration aims to provide resources for athletes, parents, and coaches while making sports more accessible, inclusive, and fun.

This expansion will also include partnerships with local organizations, including the Buddy Hield Foundation in Nassau, where a full revitalization of sports facilities at Woodcock Primary School is planned. The project will culminate in a community basketball tournament hosted by Bahamian NBA star Buddy Hield, bringing a big-league moment to the local court.

Additional “build days” are scheduled throughout the summer in Abaco and Nassau, where Disney teams and community members will come together to continue developing these play spaces. From resurfaced courts to new equipment and upgraded fields, the goal is simple but powerful, to give kids more opportunities to be active and connected.

By August 2026, even more students across The Bahamas will have access to these enhanced facilities, continuing Disney Cruise Line’s growing commitment to the communities it visits year-round.

It is a reminder that while Disney Cruise Line may be known for unforgettable vacations, some of its most meaningful impact happens far beyond the decks, right where communities live, play, and dream.
