Groot is back with five new animated shorts exclusively on Disney+. Season 2 of “I AM GROOT” streams on Disney+ beginning Sept. 6, 2023. The new season of “I AM GROOT” features the voices of Vin Diesel as Baby Groot and Jeffrey Wright as The Watcher. “I AM GROOT” is written and directed by Kirsten Lepore.
Kirsten Lepore, who wrote and directed all episodes of the first season of shorts and returned in the same capacity for season two of “I Am Groot.” “I find him to be such a relatable character—mischievous, fun-loving—but at the end of the day, he’s always trying to do the right thing. Also, you don’t have to worry about him getting mistranslated: He only has one line, but he conveys so much through the universal language of action and emotion.”
Groot stumbles across a strange egg in a nest while exploring the alien planet of Terma. He instantly falls for the little creature that emerges when the egg cracks, adopting it ashis own. “This episode is very near and dear to me as the parent of a young kid,” says Lepore. “We had a blast designing our bird characters, especially perfecting their goofy movements. Additionally, we had the pleasure of recording the legendary voice talent Dee Bradley Baker who single-handedly created all of our bird sounds.”
Episode 2: “Groot Noses Around”
When Groot discovers a bionic nose-shaped device that grants him a sense of smell, he quickly learns not to stick his new nose where it doesn’t belong. Says Lepore, “When we pitched this episode idea, I thought for sure it would be too ‘out there’ for Kevin Feige and our EPs. I was thrilled when they picked it, mostly just to see what Groot would look like with a weird, cute nose on his face? The scene with the fragrant delights displayed across the banquet table is my favorite shot of this season.”
After landing on the icy planet of Falligar, Groot fashions a snowman with scraps of junk, inadvertently creating an unstoppable snowman-robot that wreaks havoc. “We had too much fun making this episode—and creating our snowman!” says Lepore. “This was one of the last episodes to have the scoring completed, and I wasn’t sure what the two songs for this episode would be. I was cheering and clapping the first time I got to hear them. Our music composer, Daniele Luppi, knocked it out of the park!”
Episode 4: “Groot’s Sweet Treat”
As an intergalactic ice cream truck approaches, Groot—desperate to get a treat—frantically scours the ship for coins. “I very much relate to this as a kid growing up in the suburbs, constantly chasing ice cream trucks,” says Lepore. “I’m really happy we got to use the classic ice cream ‘Entertainer’ theme—and then upgrade it into a ridiculous ‘90s club banger. Fun Fact: That’s Mikky Ekko singing the final song that plays over the credits!”
Episode 5: “Groot and the Great Prophecy”
In this adventure narrated by The Watcher, Groot finds himself in the heart of an ancient Drez-Lar temple with a mythic prophecy he must fulfill to save the universe. Says Lepore, “Absolutely loved recording Jeffrey Wright for this one—he was really incredible! The very last thing we did right before wrapping this season was to change up the ball-bouncing sound effects on the final mix stage. Felt good to add a whole new comedic layer in the 11th hour.”
Fans of season 1 are sure to enjoy this second set of animated shorts. All five episodes leaned heavily into Groot’s mischievous side. We could watch these shorts on replay endlessly. Season two produced more laugh out loud moments than season 1. Jeffrey Wright’s narration in Episode 5 felt like a shared monologue that we’ve all expressed when watching Groot’s hi-jinx in the past. “I AM GROOT” is suitable for every member of the household, but don’t be surprised if you find yourself giggling like a child along with the kids.
My only complaint about “I AM GROOT” is having to sit through the Marvel crawl five times consecutively. I understand that these are all official Marvel Shorts, but having to be reminded in each episode individually feels like overkill. Ultimately, “I AM GROOT” is a small invest of your time that will pay dividends in brightening your day. We are Groot!
New Star Wars Happy Meal Loungefly Bag Spotted At Disney Springs!
We found a new Star Wars Happy Meal Loungefly Bag from a galaxy, far, far, away and honestly, we are loving it! It’s available at the Galactic Outpost in Disney Springs for $95.
The design is very unique with a Happy Meal shape, a Bantha with spiraling horns known to inhabit the desert planet Tatooine. Turn the bag and you will find the “Star Wars Bantha Burgers” logo with a Bantha happy meal, a blue bun burger, fries, a blue ice cream cone and Bantha milk.

Guests who have visited EPCOT recently have noticed construction in many areas of the park. While the front section of the park is being completely re-imagined, work has also been progressing on a refurbishment of the Canada Pavilion.
Both La Celier and the gardens remain open to guests while the construction progresses.

Barbie’ Overtakes ‘Super Mario Bros.’ as Number One Film of 2023
The summer of ‘Barbie’ continues to cruise towards more box office records in 2023. This past weekend, the Greta Gerwig directed ‘Barbie’ overtook ‘The Super Mario Brothers’ movie as the highest grossing film of 2023. ‘Super Mario Brothers’ earned 1.35 Billion dollars globally, and amount that has now been surpassed by ‘Barbie’.
‘Barbie’ continues to impress overseas, in some 75 markets worldwide where it has grossed a staggering 763.4 million dollars. Barbie is the largest ever production for Warner Brothers, surpassing “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.”
The other half of “Barbenheimer” continues to set records for Christopher Nolan. Oppenheimer has blasted by Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 as the third highest grossing film of 2023. Oppenheimer comes in behind Mario and Barbie respectively, but has earned impressive amount for an R-Rated Title.
As Barbie continues to rack up money at the box office, the film is being re-released in IMAX theaters with new post-credit footage. Starting Sept 22, Barbie will release for one week in IMAX theaters allowing fans to see Barbie and Ken in all their fully formatted glory on screen.

Introducing the Disney Treasure, Disney Cruise Line’s latest ship, featuring brand-new venues and reimagined familiar spaces designed to bring to life captivating stories from cherished Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar, and Disney Parks adventures in an unprecedented way. Step into vibrant Mexican plazas, navigate winding rivers worldwide, and plunge beneath the ocean’s surface, among the many exciting experiences aboard the Disney Treasure.
Setting sail on its inaugural voyage, the Disney Treasure embarks on a seven-night Eastern Caribbean cruise from Port Canaveral, Florida, on December 21, 2024. Subsequently, it offers an inaugural season of seven-night itineraries to both the Eastern and Western Caribbean from Port Canaveral. Disney Cruise Line Castaway Club members can secure their bookings for the Disney Treasure cruise as early as September 12, 2023, with bookings opening to all guests on September 20, 2023.
Throughout the ship, guests will encounter beloved spaces from the Disney Treasure’s sister ship, the Disney Wish, now transformed into thrilling adventures inspired by Walt Disney’s passion for exploration. Brand New Dining & Entertainment Inspired by Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios
Adventures from the vibrant, heartfelt worlds of Disney and Pixar will lend inspiration for two venues onboard the Disney Treasure.
Plaza de Coco will be the first theatrical dining experience themed to the Disney and Pixar film, “Coco.” This theater-in-the-round entertainment venue will feature dining tables surrounding a central stage, with performances and show effects that will spread throughout the room. Guests will enjoy two different nights of unique dining experiences at Plaza de Coco during their voyage.
On the first night, the story of Miguel and his familia will continue where it left off on screen as they gather in Mariachi Plaza to take guests on a colorful, music-filled journey that celebrates family memories and togetherness.
On the second night, Miguel will reunite with his great-great-grandparents, Hector and Mama Imelda, by transporting them to Santa Cecilia with the help of his magic guitar for a Día de los Muertos celebration. Both nights will feature a dinner menu of modern twists on traditional Mexican fare and a lineup of live entertainment.
Next, the sweetshop, Jumbeaux’s Sweets, will be reminiscent of the popular ice cream parlor, Jumbeaux Café, from the bustling mammal metropolis featured in Disney’s “Zootopia.”
Surrounded by playful pink interiors, Victorian-style architecture and an endearing sculpture of Officer Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde, guests will be served humor and heart by the cone full. From bunnies and elephants to sloths and foxes, all are welcome to indulge in more than 20 flavors of handmade gelato, 16 flavors of ice cream and sorbets, specialty treats, candies and more.
Disney Theme Park Adventures on the High Seas
For the first time, the nostalgia and lore from beloved theme park attractions will come to Disney Cruise Line with a unique lineup of Disney Parks-inspired venues aboard the Disney Treasure.
Skipper Society, a themed lounge near the Grand Hall, will bring Disney Parks’ iconic Jungle Cruise attraction to sea for the first time. The venue’s natural colorways and camp-style furnishings, paired with sly tributes to the trusty, dry-witted skippers, will offer an elevated, playful atmosphere.
Guests will discover references to the famous attraction throughout the space, from a whimsical monkey-shaped chandelier to postcards and luggage tags brought back from travels abroad. Beneath a canopy of jungle foliage, guests will indulge in themed cocktails and light snacks and enjoy live entertainment.
Periscope Pub will become Disney Cruise Line’s first venue inspired by the spellbinding adventure of Walt Disney’s 1954 film, “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea,” and the celebrated Disney Parks attraction that was open at Walt Disney World from 1971 to 1994.
The design of the submarine-style interiors will call upon 19th-century steampunk influences with polished metals and industrial touches. A mysterious window into the depths of the uncharted oceans along the ceiling will make guests feel like Captain Nemo on the Nautilus, while a decorative statement rug in the center of the space will honor Captain Nemo’s fabled nemesis, the giant squid. This casual venue will be the ideal onboard locale for guests to unwind and watch live sports and news, while ordering from a menu of craft brews and light bites.
Embracing the adventures of the future, the Tomorrow Tower Suite will capture the same forward-thinking mindset that inspired the Walt Disney World Resort theme park, EPCOT, with an energetic design. Throughout the suite, dynamic art pieces, molten metal accents and futuristic, colorful glass accents will evoke the distinct atmosphere of EPCOT’s World Discovery neighborhood.
Set high in the ship’s forward funnel, this one-of-a-kind suite will overlook the top deck of the Disney Treasure and glimpse the open horizon through an expansive two-story window. With nearly 2,000 square feet of living space, the Tomorrow Tower Suite will comfortably sleep eight guests and feature areas for eating, sleeping and playing, as well as other perks like a full kitchen and private ensuite elevator.
Classic Disney Adventures in Familiar Spaces
The Grand Hall will embody the ship’s theme of adventure, with statues and décor that call on the gilded palace and wonder of Agrabah from Walt Disney Animation Studios’ classic tale, “Aladdin.” The space will serve as the ship’s most prominent gathering space and will offer its own dedicated entertainment moments and surprises.
Just off the Grand Hall, two casual walk-up cafes will serve a selection of coffee, tea, specialty beverages, and snacks, with new themes that draw inspiration from two brave Disney Princesses, Moana and Mulan. Named for Moana’s trusty sidekick, Heihei Café will echo the scalloped seashells and reflective blue waters of the Southern Pacific Isle of Motunui as it’s portrayed in Disney’s animated feature “Moana.” The venue will feature furniture stylings that pay homage to traditional construction techniques used by the Polynesian people to craft seafaring vessels.
Jade Cricket Café, inspired by the classic Disney film “Mulan,” will honor the Fa Family’s “lucky” cricket, Cri-Kee, who will be represented by a jade sculpture on the bar top. From the central moon gate to the plum blossom flowers adorning the walls, symbols of Mulan’s strength, beauty and heritage will fill the café, while the striking blue walls and metallic counters will be reminiscent of her armor.
Further, Sarabi, a central hub for a multitude of daytime activities and adult-exclusive evening entertainment will evoke the natural beauty and openness of the savanna where its namesake, the lioness matriarch from Disney’s “The Lion King,” lived.
AquaMouse: Curse of the Golden Egg, Disney Cruise Line’s own attraction at sea, will plunge guests into the world of Mickey Mouse animated shorts. Suspended high above the upper decks, powerful jets will propel two-person ride vehicles through 760 feet of winding tubes, offering breathtaking views of the ocean and the ship below.
Onboard the Disney Treasure, AquaMouse will introduce a new storyline that follows Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse on a zany misadventure into an ancient temple for a glimpse of the legendary treasure within.
The artful accommodations aboard the Disney Treasure will be inspired by classic Disney tales of adventure. The 1,256 staterooms onboard will feature custom artwork and design elements that evoke the exploratory spirit of beloved Disney and Pixar films including “Aladdin,” “Pocahontas,” “Up” and “Encanto,” while the concierge and royal suites will bring to life the incredible character journeys – and some beloved feline sidekicks – from “The Lion King,” “The Jungle Book” and “Aladdin.”
Finally, many Disney Cruise Line favorites will return to the Disney Treasure. In addition to an all-new stage production coming to the Walt Disney Theatre, “Beauty and the Beast” and “Disney Seas the Adventure” will thrill audiences with tales as old as time, while the upper decks will come to life with music and fireworks during the swashbuckling Pirate’s Rockin’ Parlay Party.
Worlds of Marvel and 1923 will round out the family dining rotation, while The Rose, Palo Steakhouse, and Enchanté by Chef Arnaud Lallament will continue to wow adults with exceptional views, gourmet meals, and delicious beverages.

FIRST LOOK: Zootopia-Themed Land Coming to Shanghai Disneyland
As part of the Road to Destination D23 which officially kicks off this weekend, Shanghai Disney Resort has just shared new details on the world’s first Zootopia-themed land opening soon at Shanghai Disneyland.
Get ready to become a rookie police officer at the Zootopia Police Department (ZPD)! Set after the Walt Disney Animation Studios film’s timeline, residents of Zootopia are gearing up for a big concert celebrating Zootopia Day featuring Gazelle.
When you walk into the ZPD for orientation, you’ll be greeted by Officer Clawhauser. Suddenly, an alarm sounds and you’ll be whisked away to an emergency briefing delivered by Chief Bogo where you’ll learn that Gazelle has been kidnapped — on the day of the anticipated concert!
Before you know it, you’ll be assigned to back up Officer Judy Hopps and her partner, Nick Wilde, now officially a police officer, in an action-filled police chase.
Here you will traverse across Zootopia’s iconic terrains, sliding across the ice of Tundra Town, prowling for fugitives through the streets of Sahara Square, sharing a too-close-for-comfort encounter at Mystic Springs Oasis, and plummeting from the canopies of the Rainforest District all in pursuit of Bellwether and her gang to track down Gazelle.
Meet some of your favorite characters from Zootopia
One-of-a-kind live entertainment experiences await, bringing Disney Animation’s Zootopia and its residents to life!
