Disney World Cast Members Bring their Culture to the Holiday Decorations

The holidays are almost in full swing at Walt Disney World! Disney World Cast Members are hard at work getting all of the decorations made and installed at the parks and resorts. Over 40,000 individual pieces of holiday décor have been created!

Though the team decorates across the resort, the Disney Springs Christmas Tree Stroll presented by AdventHealth holds an extra special place in the hearts of two Holiday Services cast members – Kaawaloa and Gerardo “Jerry” – who had the unique opportunity to combine their passion for Disney and their respective Hawaiian and Mexican cultural traditions into the making of the “Moana” and “Coco” themed trees.

Bringing a Touch of Home to the Disney Holidays

Kaawoloa, who has been with the team for eight years, is most proud of her work on the tree inspired by Disney’s “Moana,” drawing inspiration from her Native Hawaiian upbringing.

“It feels like home,” Kaawaloa said. “I love to get together with my family and make ornaments because I have memories of learning traditional techniques growing up, and I get to continue the tradition now with my work!”

Kaawaloa helped select the specific types of flowers, shells and colors that would best represent the Island of Motunui. She used authentic Hawaiian lei crafting and fabric techniques that mimic the ocean water, and even took a basic boat the team had in storage and turned it into one of the canoes from Motunui!

“The complexities and scale of our projects make for great learning experiences,” Kaawaloa said. “We work with so many extremely talented Disney cast members; someone is always there to lend a hand to bring décor to life.”

Walt Disney World Cast Bring “Moana” and “Coco” Inspired Décor to Life

Jerry, who has been with the team for six years, brought his Mexican heritage, family traditions and unique decorating techniques that he learned growing up to the Disney and Pixar’s “Coco” tree.

“Decorating the ‘Coco’-themed tree brought me back to when I was little,” he said. “My grandma and great-grandma took care of me, and they owned a flower shop, so I grew up surrounded by art and decoration. When I found out I could do that for a living, I felt like it was a natural move.”

Using his memories of celebrating both Christmas and Día De Los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead, with his family, Jerry’s goal for the tree was to make it look like “a party in the afterlife.” He turned the tree into an authentic, colorful ofrenda, complete with hand-painted alebrijes and calaveras, offerings like fruit and shoes, and photos of the Rivera Family in intricate frames.

“When we get close to finishing a project, I always think about standing near the trees and hearing the guests’ comments,” Jerry added, “I feel really good inside knowing that millions of people from all over the globe visit Disney World just to see our décor!”

Great news Disney fans! The Disney Springs Christmas Tree Stroll is returning to Walt Disney World on November 10! The Christmas Tree Stroll features 19 trees shimmering with a festive glow.

The Disney Springs Christmas Tree Stroll presented by AdventHealth holds an extra special place in the hearts of two Holiday Services cast members – Kaawaloa and Gerardo “Jerry” – who had the unique opportunity to combine their passion for Disney and their respective Hawaiian and Mexican cultural traditions into the making of the “Moana” and “Coco” themed trees.

Disneyland Magic Key Holders get to enjoy some exclusive perks this holiday season! The holiday season officially begins November 10 at the Disneyland Resort.

We’ve previously revealed the ¡Viva Navidad! tote bag, which is offered while supplies last at Silly Symphony Swings. Additionally, a special ¡Viva Navidad! PhotoPass Magic Shot will be accessible for Magic Key holders with a complimentary download until November 14, before being open to all guests. This Magic Shot opportunity will be available with PhotoPass photographers in the World of Color viewing area near the Golden Zephyr, just before dusk.

From November 15 onward, Magic Key holders can visit the same World of Color viewing area for a fresh Disney Festival of Holidays Magic Shot.

Magic Key holders at Disneyland Park can enjoy an exclusive PhotoPass Magic Shot inspired by “Wish” until dusk. This enchanting shot is available with PhotoPass photographers across from the Matterhorn Bobsleds until November 30. Beginning on November 22, Asha from “Wish” will be making appearances for meet and greets.

Moreover, starting November 10, Magic Key holders will have the chance to buy a festive stainless steel insulated tumbler at select quick-service locations, with a limit of one per Magic Key holder.

During the Disney Festival of Holidays at Disney California Adventure, Magic Key holders will have the opportunity to buy a Sip & Savor pass at a special price, which comes with a commemorative Magic Key lanyard. This pass includes 8 entitlement tabs that can be used to redeem select food and non-alcoholic beverages.

Starting on November 10, a unique Festival of the Holidays hooded sweatshirt designed for Magic Key holders will also be on sale.

Furthermore, an exclusive semi-secluded dining area with a festive photo backdrop will be provided near the entrance to Avengers Campus, exclusively for Magic Key holders.

Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM!

Disney fans are aware of the nighttime fireworks spectacular that is Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM! The show, which brings holiday moments from favorite Disney films to life on the façade of the park’s iconic Chinese Theater, will run at 12:30 am during Jollywood Nights.

Disney Holidays in Hollywood

This show promises an evening “inspired by the glitz and glamour of vintage Hollywood TV specials—with a contemporary twist and some holiday magic—at Theater of the Stars.” You can catch Disney Holidays in Hollywood at 8:45 pm, 9:45 pm, 10:45 pm and 11:45 pm.

Additionally, a variety of themed entertainment will be available throughout the night:

Be welcomed to Jollywood—with a DJ spinning a holiday mix on Hollywood Boulevard.
Saunter over to Echo Lake for a throwback bash that’s sure to stir up nostalgia. You may even spot Powerline Max, Phineas, and Ferb!
Head down Commissary Lane and discover a holiday street fair filled with lively energy at Holiday Fiesta en la Calle. Latin holiday music fills the air as musicians play along the walkways. Warm lighting and colorful décor give the street a vibrant feel, as you sip drinks and nibble on treats inspired by Latin holiday traditions.
You are cordially invited to Twilight Soirée at the Tip Top Club—a swingin’ celebration in the courtyard of The Hollywood Tower Hotel. Here, you can sip cocktails* and unwind in style while a live band swoons and croons holiday tunes. Capacity is limited.
Join us for Jazzy Holidays at The Hollywood Brown Derby. During Disney Jollywood Nights, this iconic restaurant transforms into a smooth jazz joint—where you can enjoy holiday music, craft cocktails, and an exclusive menu of light bites* in a sophisticated setting. Capacity is limited.

Season’s Streamings Returns to Disney+ this Holiday Season

‘Tis the season to stream holiday classics and new Originals on Disney+! This holiday season, Disney+ is the streaming home for holiday favorites, new Originals, and the biggest premieres of the year! The Happy Holidays collection is back and more joyful than ever with exclusive new Originals premiering including season two of “The Santa Clauses,” “Dashing Through the Snow,” “Diary of a Wimpy Kid Christmas: Cabin Fever,” and more.

The collection also features your family’s annual holiday classics to stream over and over again with beloved film franchises “Home Alone,” the 10th Anniversary celebration of “Frozen,” “Ice Age,” and “The Santa Clause,” alongside “The Muppet Christmas Carol,” “Miracle on 34th Street,” and “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is the Christmas event of the season. The annual party, which kicks off on Thursday, November 9th, brings a myriad of special holiday events, including fireworks, parades, character meet and greets, and more to guests. We have compiled all of the latest details on the show times for the events and have them ready to share with you!

Mickey’s Most Merriest Celebration

This stage show, which stars Mickey Mouse and Friends, will be held in front of Cinderella Castle during the Christmas Party at 7:40 pm, 9:25 pm, 10:35 pm, and 11:55 pm.

Frozen Holiday Surprise

A projection-based replacement for the former dream light lighting, this show stars Olaf, Anna, Elsa, and Kristoff will run at 6:15 pm and 8:15 pm on party nights. The show will feature Olaf and 100 of the adorable little snowmen from Frozen 2 as they decorate Cinderella Castle with a variety of Christmas decorations.

Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade

This fan-favorite holiday parade which stars all of your favorite Disney characters will run on party nights at 8:30 pm and 11:00 pm.

Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks Show

The special Fireworks show will run on party nights at 10:00 p.m.
