The Legend of Zelda Movie is Full Steam ahead with a New Director
We previously reported that a live-action Legend of Zelda film was in development following the massive success of the Super Mario Brothers film. Sony and Nintendo are moving forward with the project as the strike winds down, and we have a director attached to the upcoming movie. Wes Ball (The Maze Runner, Kingdom of Planet of the Apes) is set to direct Nintendo’s next feature-length film.
Derek Connolly (Jurassic World) is writing the video game’s adaptation. The Legend of Zelda was created by Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka, in 1986. The game follows the adventures of Link as he battle his way across the Kingdom of Hyrule to save Princess Zelda and defeat Gannon. Zelda is one of the most successful video game franchises and has spawned multiple games across systems in the past three decades.
As superhero films wane in their box office prowess, we are likely to see a proliferation of video game-related content, which is all but assured following the massive success of Super Mario. Theater goers are hungry to see the games they grew up with on the big screen, and if the studios can deliver quality storytelling, it seems like a perfect fit for Hollywood.
There is no release date set for “Zelda” as of this writing of this article. We will follow up with casting news and production details as they become known. The Marvels’ Opening Weekend Box Office Projections Trail Behind Black Widow and Eternals
Marvel Studios released its final trailer just days before the film’s premiere on a Monday night. However, a recent report suggests that this approach might not be enough to ensure a successful opening weekend for “The Marvels.” The current box office projections for the film stand at $50-60 million in the United States and $80 million internationally, totaling $140 million globally. If “The Marvels” does indeed achieve these figures, it would be on par with the domestic opening weekends of “Ant-Man” ($57.2 million) and “Eternals” ($71.2 million).
This anticipated worldwide opening would fall short of the performances of “Eternals” ($160 million) and even “Black Widow” ($148 million), the latter of which also premiered on Disney+’s Premier Access platform concurrently with its theatrical release during the COVID-19 pandemic. The low projections are renewing the conversation about Super Hero fatigue and the end of Marvel’s dominance at the box office.
Kamala Khan, portrayed by Iman Vellani and known as Ms. Marvel, finds herself teaming up with Monica Rambeau, an astronaut and Carol’s estranged niece, now serving as a S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain (played by Teyonah Parris). Brie Larson returns as Carol Danvers.
This unexpected trio must join forces and learn to collaborate effectively in order to save the universe in “The Marvels.” The film will also mark the return of familiar franchise faces, such as Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Saagar Shaikh as Aamir Khan, Zenobia Shroff as Muneeba Khan, and Mohan Kapur as Yusuf Khan. New additions to the cast include Zawe Ashton, Park Seo-joon, and Shamier Anderson.
“The Marvels” is a Marvel Studios production, directed by Nia DaCosta, with a screenplay crafted by DaCosta, Megan McDonnell, and Elissa Karasik.
Early reviews of the film are generally positive, so there’s a chance that “The Marvels” could gain traction in subsequent weeks if the audience reaction gets more people to the theaters. Disney Ultimate Toy Drive Delivers Joy to Kids in Need This Holiday Season
The Walt Disney Company and Toys For Tots are getting into the Holiday Spirit. Yesterday, The Walt Disney Company launched its annual Disney Ultimate Toy Drive supporting the Marine Toys for Tots Program to help deliver toys to children in need this holiday season.
Disney’s relationship with Toys for Tots dates back to 1947, when Walt Disney and his team of animators designed the Toys for Tots logo that is still used today. Since then, The Walt Disney Company has continued to strengthen this relationship, engaging volunteers and providing charitable support to help Toys for Tots deliver toys to children in need nationwide.
Since its founding, Toys for Tots Marines and volunteers have distributed 652 million toys to over 291 million children. Last year the organization set a record of distributing more than 24 million toys to nearly 10 million children, thanks in part to the collaboration with the Disney Ultimate Toy Drive.
“For over 75 years, Disney has been proud to work with Toys for Tots to help deliver joy to children in need,” said Lisa Haines, senior vice president, Corporate Social Responsibility, The Walt Disney Company. “From VoluntEARS opportunities to integrations into shows across our networks, our employees and cast members in every part of the company love supporting Toys for Tots and giving back at this special time of year in ways that only Disney can.”
“It’s amazing how this relationship started with a logo and has now transformed into an annual nationwide campaign supporting children in need. Throughout the holiday season, Disney will air a Public Service Announcement on its television networks and streaming platforms—such as ABC, ABC Owned Stations, Disney+, Freeform, FX, Hulu, and National Geographic—in support of Toys for Tots.
Toy collections will take place at in-person film screenings and activations, including events for Disney Branded Television’s upcoming release of The Naughty Nine premiering November 22 on Disney Channel and the next day on Disney+, events surrounding the second season of the Disney+ Original series The Santa Clauses, premiering November 8, and the second season of Marvel Studios’ What If…? premiering this December on Disney+.
Shows across the Disney networks including ESPN’s GetUp!, as well as ABC and ABC news programs including Good Morning America, Tamron Hall, The View,and Wheel of Fortune will feature Disney Ultimate Toy Drive and Toys for Tots stories to highlight the season of giving and the importance of supporting communities in need. Toy collections will also be hosted by the ABC Owned Television Stations in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Houston, San Francisco, Raleigh-Durham, and Fresno.

Earl of Sandwich Opening a Pop-up shop in the West End of Downtown Disney District
Fan-favorite Earl of Sandwich has had a tumultuous life at the Downtown Disney District in Disneyland. Soon, the sandwich shop will have a pop-up shop in the west end of Downtown Disney.
Earl of Sandwich closed in 2022 when the Downtown Disney District began a multi-year reimagining. Earlier this year, however, the fan-favorite spot took over the location of La Brea Bakery at the other end of Downtown Disney.
Now, the restaurant will be moving again as its current location will be the new home to Porto’s Bakery. A temporary Earl of Sandwich pop-up shop will open in the west end of Downtown Disney District (near Star Wars Trading Post) this winter, featuring a curated menu of guest favorite sandwiches!

A visit to Universal Orlando just got a little more expensive
If you are planning a visit to Universal Orlando Resort, you may need to adjust your budget as your next trip just became a bit more expensive. In a move that is sure to affect vacation planning for many, Universal Orlando has confirmed that the ticket prices for theme park entry have been increased.
For those looking to spend a day at either Universal Studios or Islands of Adventure, the cost of a single park ticket ranges from $119 to $179, up from the previous range of $109 to $159 according to reporting by the Orlando Sentinel. Single Day Park to Park tickets have seen a similar increase, up to a range of $174 to $234 (based on date) from the previous range of $164 to $214.
For those planning to visit both Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando during their central Florida vacation, the single day ticket prices for Walt Disney World range from $109 to $189 for adults (age 10+), with the single day park hopper add-on costing and additional $65. Disney World single day ticket prices vary both by date and park selected.
Universal Orlando released a statement in response to the increases that reads, in part: “Our pricing reflects the incredible, world-class entertainment experiences we continue to offer our guests, and with our date-based variable pricing model, guests have more flexibility when planning a visit to our destination and can choose the best time to visit that suits their needs.”
