Disney plans family-style cruises to Africa, Russia, Scandinavia

This article comes from the Dallas Morning News. While going to DisneyWorld and the Bahamas is great to be able to check out and explore this far off ports of call would be amazing.

The cruise line will send one of its two ships, the Disney Magic, to Europe for a five-month season this year, with 10- and 11-night cruises in the Mediterranean and 12-night trips in northern Europe. I was one of four American writers invited to accompany the Disney team as they previewed and fine-tuned their shore excursions, which Disney calls port adventures.

It’s no small feat trying to make unfamiliar and exotic destinations family-friendly without sacrificing authenticity or watering down the experiences until they resemble make-believe.

David Duffy, the cruise line’s creative director, said the unfamiliar destinations provide new opportunities for Disney. “These are places that have tapped into a more mature audience, so it’s exciting to be the first to go in and really address the family needs of travelers.”

Duffy pointed to the treasure hunt at Sidi Bou Said as an example of the effort to help guests navigate exotic locales.

Like other cruise lines, Disney contracts with local tour operators to run its shore excursions, but Disney has a more hands-on approach to the process than most.

DisneyWorld Construction Photo Collection Feb 2010

Wanted to post the collection of Construction Photos I snagged while at Disneyworld a few weeks ago. There was alot of Refurbishments going on and this is by no means a complete listing or photo gallery. Most of the construction was isolated to Magic Kingdom & Epcot. I was just glad that the castle did not have a gigantic crane sitting at the front like I saw in a few older photos before we left.

Opening of IBM SmarterPlanet exhibit in Epcot's Innoventions

The IBM SmarterPlanet exhibit in Epcot’s Innoventions held its grand opening on Jan. 29, 2010 with a ribbon cutting featuring Mickey Mouse.

SmarterPlanet offers visitors a behind-the-scenes glimpse of how technology is helping solve the worlds most complex problems. Hands-on interactive kiosks offer guests a match game that reveals societal and technological implications of creating a smarter planet.

The exhibit also features Runtime, created by Walt Disney Imagineering, which transforms guests into personalized avatars as part of the video game experience. Players run, jump and dance through a timeline of IBM’s achievements in the history of computing, journeying from the Babbage computer, through vacuum tubes and chips and bits, to the Internet. Guests can also e-mail their personalized version of the game to any computer, extending the Runtime experience to their home.

The exhibit is powered by a new Smarter Data Center.

Marvel Captain America Casting Soon – Shooting Begins in June

Article from the HD Room talking about Capt America:

I was beginning to think Marvel had forgotten all about Captain America: The First Avenger. It hits theaters a little over two months after Thor, yet Thor is well into principal photography while Captain America is still without a cast.In speaking with Sci-Fi Wire, Captain America director Joe Johnston provided an update on the search for the actor to play Steve Rogers and revealed a late June start date to filming.

“We need to cast it soon,” Johnston said in regards to his star. “We have a very short list, but we’re still juggling actors here. I’d say within the next couple of weeks we’ll have ourselves a Captain America, I hope.”

The role of Steve Rogers will be a difficult one to fill. Whoever is chosen will have to start as a 98lb wimp and then transform into the perfect physical human specimen. Everyone on that short list had best be hitting the gym, and hard.

DVC By Resale presents - The Polynesian Fountains

There are quite a few spots at the Polynesian that are pleasant to your senses. One of the more relaxing aspects of the resort are the fountains inside and out. In this quick segment, Shontell and John encourage Walt Disney World vacationers to take a moment to enjoy these spots. Aloha!

Enchanted 2 is in the works?

Enchanted 2 is in the works?

There are a few articles floating around asking the same questions. One I read was at Moviefone:

It’s a question that philosophers and children alike have been debating for centuries: what happens after happily ever after? Now, thanks to Disney, we may finally find out.

That’s because according to Variety, Disney is panning a sequel to 2007’s surprise hit ‘Enchanted.’ That film, which told the story of a fairy tale princess who was marooned in New York City by an evil witch, made over $123 million, domestically, and $340 million worldwide.

In fact, the biggest hurdle facing the sequel, which Disney has put on the fast track in hopes of getting it into theaters as soon as possible, may be that very success. Thanks to her star turn in ‘Enchanted,’ Amy Adams has become one of Hollywood’s hottest properties, which may throw up some roadblocks for the studio in terms of both her availability and the higher salary she now commands.

The second article I found was at Hitfix that talks more about Amy Adams:

They would never admit it publicly, but executives at the Walt Disney Studios was a bit disappointed with the initial returns for the well-reviewed and audience friendly “Enchanted.” The hybrid musical/comedy was a riff on the studio’s traditional animated fairy tales and ended up with three Oscar nominations in the Best Original Song category, was Amy Adams’ breakout commercial role and pulled in $340 million worldwide, but the scuttlebutt was that the film should have actually grossed more domestically. That may be why it’s taken awhile for the Mouse House to greenlight a sequel, but new studio Chairman Rich Ross is changing all that.

Variety reports that “The Proposal’s” Anne Fletcher will direct “Enchaned 2” and that Disney has hired veteran Jessie Nelson (“Stepmom,” “The Story of Us”) to write the screenplay. Fletcher is coming off the monster success of “The Proposal,” but the former choreographer is also behind such hits as “Step Up” and “27 Dresses.” No reason was given for original director Kevin Lima’s departure.

I hope Amy will jump on board and be apart of Enchan
