Disney lets female employees expose legs, arms

Disney lets female employees expose legs, arms

Here is a little more information on the dress code changes from the Sarah Tully at the OC Register:

Disney’s female employees for the first time can expose their legs and full arms while at work.

Last month, the Walt Disney Co. eased up its famously strict dress code — called the Disney Look — by allowing women to forgo pantyhose while wearing skirts. They also can sport sleeveless tops with straps that are at least three-inches wide.

“We want to make sure we’re true to our brand and heritage, but we want to stay relevant,” said Betsy Sanchez, a Disneyland Resort spokeswoman.

The Disneyland Resort, which includes two theme parks, is the largest private employer in Orange County with about 20,000 workers. Most of the employees affected by the new dress code work behind the scenes, but those using costumes with hosiery will be required to wear  them in the parks.

Disney has enforced the Disney Look, which has its own manual, since 1957. In the 1960s, even some Disneyland male visitors with long hair were asked to leave. Disney banned mustaches for employees until 2000. Cornrows on males were allowed three years later.

The most recent update came May 28, Sanchez said. Other changes include:

  • Women can wear capri pants.
  • Women’s shoes can be open toed and have slingbacks. Before, shoes could only be one or the other.
  • Men can wear untucked, camp-style shirts, like the Tommy Bahamas brand.

Disney’s California Adventure – Carsland News & Info

Disney's California Adventure - Carsland News & Info

Here is some interesting news coming out of Disney about the upcoming Carsland that is scheduled to be opened in 2012.

  • Kathy Mangum, Executive Producer and Vice President, Walt Disney Imagineering, let us know that Cars Land architecture closely resembles that in the film on which it is based. In fact Imagineers have “laid out the street exactly the same” as in the movie, Kathy said.
  • The Cozy Cones, Sally’s motel in the film, will be full-sized structures, and each will feature a unique snack shop offering tantalizing treats like “Chile Con Cone” and “Cone on the Cob.”
  • Radiator Springs Racers — the land’s E-ticket attraction — will have 22 six-passenger cars on the ride system, which is reminiscent of Epcot’s Test Track. The attraction will utilize 3 million pounds of steel. Over the next 14 months the “mountain” landscape will be completed. The attraction will also offer different experiences for guests; in preparation for the day’s big race, in which all riders participate, some will receive new tires from Luigi, while others will get a fresh paint job from Ramone.
  • Guests visiting Luigi’s Roamin’ Tires in Cars Land will get to walk through his office and garage in the attraction’s queue.

Toy Story 3 Makes Worldwide Debut with Dolby Surround 7.1

Toy Story 3 Makes Worldwide Debut with Dolby Surround 7.1

Dolby Laboratories, Inc. and Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures announced today that both 2D and 3D formats of Toy Story 3 will be released globally in Dolby Surround 7.1 this June. WDSMP also plans to release Step Up 3D in both 2D and 3D formats with Dolby Surround 7.1 this August.

“We are always looking for ways to push the cinematic envelope and bring more realistic and exciting sensory experiences to our audiences,” said Gary Weaver, Senior Vice President, Administration, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. “By collaborating with Dolby Laboratories we have raised the bar for moviegoers by delivering a superior audio format that complements both 2D and 3D digital cinema. Dolby Surround 7.1 will provide audiences around the globe with the most immersing audio entertainment experience available.”

Toy Story 3 will be released in Dolby Surround 7.1 in 12 languages in select cinema chains throughout Australia, France, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Korea, Latin America, New Zealand, North America, Singapore, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom.

Check out this video for more information:

“This year Dolby cinema celebrates 40 years of helping filmmakers realize their artistic vision through continued innovation in audio and visual technologies,” said Page Haun, Senior Director, Marketing, Cinema Market Segment, Dolby Laboratories. “Today, we are pleased to continue this tradition by offering Dolby Surround 7.1, giving filmmakers greater control over the definition and placement of sounds better representing the creative vision for the movies they produce.”

About Dolby Surround 7.1

The latest innovation from a pioneer in cinema sound, Dolby Surround 7.1 improves the spatial dimension of soundtracks and enhances audio definition. The result: full-featured audio that better matches the visual impact of movies.

With the ability for content creators to mix in a discrete 7.1 format, Dolby Surround 7.1 provides four surround zones to better orchestrate audio channels in a movie theatre environment. The four surround zones incorporate the traditional Left Surround and Right Surround with new Back Surround Left and Back Surround Right zones. The addition of the two Back Surround zones enhances directionality in panning 360 degrees around the theatre.

Dolby Surround 7.1 format comprises eight channels of audio and has the following channel layout: Left, Center, Right, Low-Frequency Effects (LFE), Left Surround, Right Surround, Back Surround Left (new), and Back Surround Right (new).
