Tons of Disney Toy Story 3 Apps for the iPhone and iPod touch

Disney Interactive Media Group announced today the availability of “Toy Story 3,” for the Apple iPhone(R) and iPod touch(R) (www.itunes.com/WaltDisney ). Disney’s first franchise portal on the iPhone, the “Toy Story 3” app is free to download and lets fans play, personalize and stay connected to their favorite “Toy Story” characters, stories and happenings through both free and premium content that can be purchased within the app, ranging in price from $.99 to $3.99.

“Toy Story 3” is the first Disney app to feature a collectability component where users are rewarded for exploring, playing and purchasing new apps with collectable, Toy Story-themed, virtual Pins. The app also features cross over with the Mac version of Toy Story 3: The Video Game in which players can use the “Toy Story 3” app on their iPhone or iPod touch to control their gaming experience. Disney also plans to update the app with new features throughout 2010 and beyond.

Available at launch is a wide range of content including:

— Woody’s Wild Ride! ($3.99) – Play as Woody as he and his trusty horse Bullseye ride through the Wild West! Collect items with your lasso, dodge obstacles, and unlock achievements.

— Woody’s Greeting (Free) – Send a message to your favorite cowboy or cowgirl from your pal Woody! Choose from a list of names, occasions, hobbies and more to create your own custom greeting.

— Operation Camouflage ($2.99) — Find items camouflaged throughout Andy’s Room, Bonnie’s Room and Sunnyside Daycare in this hidden object style game.

— Sound Around ($.99) – Listen to Buzz and Woody’s classic phrases, as well as toy sound effects from Andy’s room in the Toy Story movies.

“The success of the “Toy Story” franchise and its massive following really lent itself to creating an experience on the iPhone that extends well beyond just a single game tied to the movie release,” stated Stephen Saiz, director of marketing, Disney Interactive Studios. “We want fans to have the opportunity to experience the beloved Toy Story characters through games, sounds and personalization timed with the movie launch and beyond.”

For fans looking for more Toy Story-themed content, Disney has also updated the Toy Story Mania! app to include a new pin collecting feature. Available in iTunes for $4.99, the app is inspired by the Toy Story Mania! Attraction at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts, and allows players to test their skills in some zany and fun carnival games.

Walt Disney Pictures Presents Oz, The Great and Powerful

A Wizard of Oz prequel is now in the works at Disney. The Wizard of Oz prequel will be directed by Sam Raimi, and could have Robert Downey Jr. in the lead role. The news of a Wizard of Oz prequel coming soon is pretty exciting, and could end up revealing quite a few stories from the original text. The Wizard of Oz prequel will be called Oz, The Great and Powerful, and appears to be coming straight from original Frank Baum text. Some might not realize that Baum wrote 14 books surrounding the Wizard of Oz world quite some time ago, and this could flesh out some of the other stories about characters that generations have come to love in the 1939 theatrical release of The Wizard of Oz.

Sam Raimi is set to direct the film, and is already planning to meet with Robert Downey Jr. about starring in the lead role. Attaching Downey Jr. to the movie could elevate it right away, and he seems like the type of character actor that could do really well with something like this. The story of this film will be about the Wizard himself, who is transported to Oz through a tornado of his own, and appears to be the Wizard that the people of Oz have been waiting for. We already know the real story behind his persona, in that he is just a circus huckster, who suddenly gets put in a position of remarkable power. Oz, The Great and Powerful will allow for the story before Dorothy came along, and present yet another interesting look at the Wizard of Oz mythology.

Vinylmation ’55 – The Mickey Mouse Club

Very cool article about the new Vinylmation figures inspired by the 55th Anniversary of Disneyland Resort on the Disney Park Blog:

I love Disneyland! My wife and I spent our honeymoon there, and I’ve visited the Resort nearly every year since the start of the new Millennium. There is something so special about the place where Walt Disney walked. That is probably why I’m excited about the new Vinylmation figures inspired by the 55th Anniversary of Disneyland Resort which we are calling “Vinylmation ’55.” I recently spoke with Susan Foy from Disney Design Group about the first two figures from this series – a 9” plus 3” set celebrating the 55th Anniversary of The Mickey Mouse Club (a television show that also made its debut in 1955).

“I started work on the figures in March 2009,” explained Susan. “I remember watching the original series as a child. The first concept I had was a tribute to the Days of the Week which evolved to the little girl and little boy Mouseketeer figures. I watched the show intro many times and remember seeing their cute faces on the curtains.”

Susan was first hired to work on designing merchandise for the opening of Disney California Adventure in 2001. She also created many outstanding designs for the 50th Anniversary of Disneyland Resort in 2005 (has it really been five year since then?). It only seemed natural to have her work on these first two figures for the nostalgic Vinylmation ’55 collection.

Tasty Time with Zefronk Get Second Season Starting July 19th on Disney Channel

Supporting Disney’s ongoing commitment to helping kids and parents achieve healthier lifestyles, Disney Channel will premiere the second season of Playhouse Disney’s popular animated short-form series for parents and preschoolers, “Tasty Time with ZeFronk,” on MONDAY, JULY 19 (9:25 a.m., ET/PT), with new episodes every day throughout the week. Beginning July 6 www.playhousedisney.com will feature all of ZeFronk’s recipes, which are simple creations that kids and their parents or caregivers can make together at home. Kids are also invited to craft personalized recipe books.

This season ZeFronk, a French Dachshund who hosts a cooking show from his doghouse, will highlight his favorite nutritious recipes from around the world, including China, England, Germany, Greece, India, Italy, Jamaica, Mexico, Thailand and his native France. The week will conclude with a new health-themed episode of the Emmy Award-winning series “Imagination Movers” on SATURDAY, JULY 24 (10:00 a.m., ET/PT).

Zefronk gives viewers a taste of recipes including Ze Chinese Chicken Salad, Ze English Tea Sandwiches, Ze German Potato Pancake, Ze Greek Treat, Ze Indian Mango Lassi, Ze Italian Caprese Kabobs, Ze Jamaican Coconut Banana Wheels, Ze Mexican Quesadilla, Ze Thai Watermelon Slush and Ze French Mini Quiche.

ZeFronk whips up healthy snacks with the help of his assistant, a bird named Sue, and is often driven to distraction by his sneaky neighbor cat, Dom, who will stop at nothing to get a bite of one of ZeFronk’s tasty snacks.

In the “Imagination Movers” episode entitled “Give Me Strength,” the Movers help a circus strongman, Gunther the Great, regain his powers through a series of muscle-building exercises, weightlifting contests and — most importantly – eating healthy.

“Imagination Movers” stars the popular New Orleans band of the same name – Rich Collins, Scott Durbin, Dave Poche and Scott “Smitty” Smith – and introduces preschoolers to the Movers’ energetic rock and roll style of music while emphasizing creative problem solving skills. The Emmy Award-winning series features the blue-suited band as everyday guy brain-stormers working hard to solve “idea emergencies” in their Idea Warehouse, a place of infinite inspiration. Each 30-minute episode features five songs presented in music video style performances.

If you had the chance to see ‘World of Color‘ this past weekend, there’s no argument – the stars of this technical spectacular are definitely the fountains. There are almost 1,200 of them. Did you know the fountains have different roles they perform in the show?

Butterfly Fountains
This delicate quartet creates a serene effect, fluttering just above the water’s surface. With butterfly-like wings, they deliver smooth, yet stunning patterns – evoking pathos and drama with ballet–like grace.

Chaser Fountains
More than 400 Chaser Fountains create lightning-fast effects that“chase” each other in rapid-fire succession. Like the action stars they are, these fountains allow booming beads of water to be projected up to 80 feet high.
