Disney Channel Original Movie ‘Lemonade Mouth’ Details

Disney Channel Original Movie ‘Lemonade Mouth’ Details

Themes of finding your voice, believing in yourself, following your dreams, celebrating family and staying true to yourself resonate in the music-driven Disney Channel Original Movie “Lemonade Mouth.” Geared towards kids, Tweens and families, the movie premieres in spring 2011 on Disney Channel U.S. and shortly thereafter on Disney Channels around the world.

Ten original songs and a remarkably talented cast led by Bridgit Mendler (Disney Channel’s “Good Luck Charlie“), Adam Hicks (Disney XD’s “Zeke and Luther”), Hayley Kiyoko (Disney Channel’s “Wizards of Waverly Place”), Naomi Scott (Disney Channel UK’s “Life Bites”) and newcomer Blake Michael (cast through an open casting call) are showcased in the spirited movie. “Lemonade Mouth” tells the story of how a powerhouse band came to be after five uncelebrated students with a passion for music find each other and ultimately become the voice of their generation.

The script, written by April Blair based on the book Lemonade Mouth by Mark Peter Hughes, is directed by award-winning Patricia Riggen (“La Misma Luna” aka “Under the Same Moon”) and executive-produced by Debra Martin Chase (“The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants,” Disney Channel’s “The Cheetah Girls” movies), co-produced by Gaylyn Fraiche (“Just Wright,” “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2”) and choreographed by Chris Scott.

The story begins in present day as Lemonade Mouth (comprised of Olivia White, Wen Gifford, Stella Yamada, Mohini (Mo) Banjaree and Charlie Delgado) takes the stage at Madison Square Garden before thousands of cheering fans. Olivia, the introspective lead singer of the group, narrates the epic story of how the band got to this point.

It was a chance meeting in Miss Reznick’s detention that brought this unlikely ensemble together. Stella, the connector in the group, immediately recognizes the potential for the band of detainees to become a band of rockers, but first she must convince the reluctant group that they need to take a chance on expressing themselves and realizing their dreams.

As the new friends learn more about each other, they discover their common belief that it’s time for the students of Mesa High School to stand up and be heard — all students, not just the popular athletes who benefit from Principal Brenigan’s support of their extracurricular programs.

However, not everyone in the school is ready to welcome a new band. The school’s popular rock group, Mudslide Crush, are determined to maintain their status as the school’s leading entertainment choice. Complicating matters further is Mo’s boyfriend, Scott, who is Mudslide Crush’s lead guitarist.

Meanwhile, Olivia tries to come to terms with her absent father, Wen disapproves of his father’s new girlfriend, Stella yearns to stand apart from her family’s scholarly accomplishments, Mo searches for balance between her parents’ stringent expectations and the person she wants to be, and Charlie tries to escape living in the shadow of his older brother.

Starring are Bridgit Mendler as lead vocalist Olivia White, Adam Hicks as keyboardist Wen Giford, Hayley Kiyoko as electric guitarist Stella Yamada, Naomi Scott as bass guitarist Mohini (Mo) Banjaree, Blake Michael as percussionist Charlie Delgado, Nick Roux as Mudslide Crush lead guitarist Scott Picket, Chris Brochu as Mudslide Crush lead singer Ray Beech, Tisha Campbell-Martin as music teacher Miss Reznick and Christopher McDonald as Principal Brenigan.

The “Lemonade Mouth” pop music soundtrack includes nine original songs (plus a bonus track) by songwriters Vincent Alfieri, Aris Archontis, Johan Alkenas, Joleen Belle, Ebony Burks, Maria Christensen, Zach Danziger, Ali Dee Theodore, Andy Dodd, Adam Hicks, Tom Leonard, Jeannie Lurie, Charlie Mason, Niclas Molinder, Chen Neeman, Joacim Persson, Lindy Robbins, Shridhar Solanki, Ken Stacey, Shane Stevens, Matthew Tishler, Bryan Todd, Reed Vertelney, Windy Wagner, David Walsh and Adam Watts.

Quick Eats – Greek Salad from Studios Catering Co. at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Quick Eats - Greek Salad from Studios Catering Co. at Disney's Hollywood Studios

It was hot outside, as it often is in September, so I was looking for something cool and refreshing. Considering there aren’t a lot of great dining options at Disney’s Hollywood Studios I was limited to where I could go to satisfy my need for food. I decided to give the Greek Salad at Studios Catering Co. a try since it was a cold item option and I could easily find a seat right near the fan.

I have to things to say about that choice… bad idea. The salad appeared to have been made very early in the day, as the lettuce was soggy, the red onions were faded and not crunchy and the tomatoes were mushy, like they are when you cut them the day before and then refrigerate them. Sadly, the best part of the salad was the feta cheese and the kalamata olives that were strange in color, very faded. I hate to say it, but this was a counter service meal that I wish I had skipped. I should have gone next door and had a beer instead.

So if you are looking to find a bite of food at Disney’s Hollywood Studios that isn’t hot, I don’t recommend the Greek Salad at Studios Catering Co. Instead, maybe head to Starring Rolls for a cold sandwich.

Oldies But Goodies – Dining Events For Seniors

Oldies But Goodies – Dining Events For Seniors

There are quite a few “special” dining experiences at Walt Disney World many of which are especially suitable for us – the Oldies!! We have experienced quite a few of them and I thought, this week, I would highlight some of our favorites focusing on those that we seniors would be most likely to enjoy. I’ll do them in reverse order of preference finishing up with our personal favorite. All of these “special” experiences require reservations and all but one can be reserved online.

5. Spirit of Aloha Show – This show is one of those that you either love or “not so much”. We found it very relaxing and the music and dance numbers were excellent if you are tropically oriented. Judging from the popularity of the Polynesian Resort (where it is held) there are a lot of you out there. The food is really good, very fresh and well prepared. There is a pre payment requirement and a reservation cancellation policy which will be explained  when the reservation is made. Details on the show can be found on the Spirit of Aloha web page.

4. Fantasmic Dining Package – This package gets mixed reviews depending upon who you talk to. We have used it a couple of times and wouldn’t attend Fantasmic without using it. I think it’s especially appropriate for Oldies because most of us are not fond of standing in line for an hour or more. You can choose from 3 restaurants – The Hollywood Brown Derby (yum!!), Mama Melrose’s, or Hollywood & Vine (buffet). The non buffet restaurants permit you to order a la carte. You will be given a voucher at your meal that allows you access to the special entrance next to Beauty and the Beast – Live On Stage so you can walk directly to the reserved seating section on the right hand side facing the stage. Details on this package can be found on the Fantasmic web page.

3. Tomorrowland Terrace Fireworks Dessert Party – For you Oldies with a sweet tooth this allows you to satisfy that craving and enjoy an excellent view of  Wishes at the same time. There is no need to discuss the food because Disney’s Pastry Chefs are as good as they come and their creativity is abundantly on display here for your enjoyment. This event is extremely popular so making reservations as soon as you can is imperative. All of the details are available on the Dessert Party web page.

2. Hoop De Doo Musical Review – This one has been around forever and deservedly so. You might be surprised that I recommend it this high on my list but we old folks like to have fun too. That’s exactly what this event is, pure fun!! The food is very tasty, fresh, and hearty (but not particularly heart healthy) and served by the performers. This one also requires pre payment and has policies that will be explained when the reservation is made. You can find all the pertinent details on the Hoop De Doo web page and please make your reservations as soon as you can.

1. Garden View Tea Room – This one is an Oldies special!! What a relaxing way to spend an afternoon break with a traditional afternoon tea. There are lots of choices and the presentation is very elegant. See the place setting below:

Oldies But Goodies – Dining Events For Seniors

The food selections range in size from a snack to a meal and are priced accordingly. The food is outstanding and I found the Eros blend of tea to be particularly tasty. I can’t recommend this enough, particularly for my Oldie pals, it’s a great break from all of the other Disney insanity!!  Reservations for this event must still be done by phone. The room also hosts (at different times) the My Disney Girl’s Perfectly Princess Tea Party. I’ve been assured that this is beautifully done and an amazing experience for your little Princess. But, it can put a dent in the King and Queen’s wallets. Details on both are available on the Tea Room web page.

That’s the list for now folks but we are going to try to hit the Dining With An Imagineer  event in October and if we do I’ll post a review for you. As always, enjoy your visit to Walt Disney World!!

Review of Toy Story Mania! Point and Shoot Video Game

Review of Toy Story Mania! Point and Shoot Video Game
Toy Story Mania! Point and Shoot Video Game
For weeks before Christmas, my husband hinted that he had the perfect gift for me this year. This was welcome news as past gifts have included a cord of firewood and a huge box of copy paper. (I have to come to his defense and say I loved both those gifts for different reasons but I think most people can agree they’re not gifts you would typically think to give your wife.) Sitting on a floor littered with torn wrapping paper and toys, it was finally my turn and my husband did not disappoint. I ripped off the wrapping paper and saw theToy Story Mania! Point and Shoot Video Game.

Toy Story Mania! at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is my favorite attraction and I couldn’t wait to give this game a try. Being Christmas morning, I had to wait until evening as apparently I had more important duties that included putting together toys and installing batteries.

What’s Included?

When you open the box, you’ll find three components – the sensor thingamabob, the video game controller, and the fancy-sounding Infini-D Glasses which I recommend putting straight in the trash.

Review of Toy Story Mania! Point and Shoot Video Game

Installation

Installation couldn’t be easier and takes all of thirty seconds once batteries are installed. The video game controller plugs into the video jacks on your television while the sensor is placed either on top of your television or at the base depending on the height of the t.v.

Game Play

To play the game (with one to four players), turn on both the sensor and video game controller, set your television to the correct input, and then point ‘n shoot using one or both of the buttons on the video game controller.

Each game has four types of targets. The most common targets are points targets which add up to your final score. You’ll also see an x2 target which will double the points you earn for 15 seconds after you hit this target. Last but not least are the time targets. The – target will deduct time from your game while the + target will add time to your game (beginning at 45 seconds) and enable you to play more game scenes. Visually, there is a large, easy-to-spot white circle on the screen that shows what you are aiming at and makes selecting targets pretty easy. This is coming from someone who never had Atari growing up and doesn’t have a game system in the house so it must be easy to aim.

This game is not in 3-D. The Infini-D Glasses make it appear so but all it did was give me the beginnings of a headache and make my eyes hurt.

There are five games to select from: Rootin’ Tootin’ Shootin’, Tossed in Space, Green Army Men Shoot Camp, Bo Peep’s Baaa-loon Pop, and Hamm n’ Eggs.

Rootin’ Tootin’ Shootin’. This game is like a traditional shooting arcade. The targets in this Western mining setting are bulls-eyes. It’s one of the easier games and the one I had a high score in.

Tossed in Space. For me, this space-themed ring-toss game is the most challenging. Because it’s a ring toss, you must aim high to try to ring the target. Add moving targets to the mix and I always come in an embarrassing third-place when I play with my family.

Green Army Men Shoot Camp. Moving military vehicles and planes carry plates that players break with balls. The large targets and balls make it easy to aim and score in this game. It’s perfect for me.

Bo Peep’s Baaa-loon Pop. The first scene in this game is so pretty with its pastel colors that you can almost be lulled into a sense of serenity but that would not serve you well in this balloon pop game. Try not to feel bad at popping the cute balloon animals with your darts.

Hamm n’ Eggs. Set on a farm, water balloons are the projectile of choice in this game. There is a 5000 target that eludes me every time. I pretty much think it’s impossible to hit the target and it’s just there to taunt me 

Fun Factor

This game is a hit in our house with three competitive adults vying to outscore the others. Although the game is recommended for ages 5+, our five-year old had trouble lining up targets and scoring but he does love to be the cheerleader and point out all the extra time targets to make sure we don’t miss them.

The technology used enables remarkably accurate shooting; if you aim well, you will score. In terms of game play, I think the game suffers from lack of motion. It feels slow at times and the small pause in between scenes is a little frustrating. This game isn’t really ground-breaking so if you are not a fan of Toy Story Mania! in the theme park, you probably wouldn’t put this on your Top Ten list. However, if you’re reading this blog, you probably are a Toy Story Mania! fan and then I feel certain you will enjoy the game and I recommend it. It brings a bit of your Disney vacation into your home with its familiar games and characters. For this Disney fan, it really was the perfect Christmas gift.

Toy Story Mania! Point and Shoot Video Game is available at Amazon and the Disney Store.

Reliant on My Annual Pass

Reliant on My Annual Pass

The summer months and two weeks of December (and two weeks of April for spring break…and all other holidays and Saturdays) make me realize how reliant I am on my Disneyland annual pass. When I’m blocked out, I actually have to put effort into thinking up new activities to do. (New Year’s Eve is proving to be a tough one.) Blasphemy!

I guess having an annual pass for a while makes you kind of spoiled. It’s always my go-to place for some fun and relaxation time. I should probably ask for permission to set up a cot backstage somewhere because I’m there so often. I might as well live there, right? I can live off of the bakery items that don’t sell. (Please?)

But really, I have been going crazy during my winter break because I don’t have Disneyland. I now see how often I really am at the park (and how I’m definitely getting my money’s worth). Disneyland is a very big part of my life — lots of memories from my childhood, great times with friends and family, and my first kiss with my boyfriend on Thunder Mountain.

Obsessed? Maybe. In love? Definitely. Say what you will, but I love me some Disneyland.

The ‘Long’ Line and The ‘Other’ Line

The ‘Long’ Line and The ‘Other’ Line

I received this Chip Panel article from our friend and long time follower DeAnna. I hope it makes you think next time you see those people bypassing you in line.

At Disney World, there are two (2) lines at every ride and exhibit. There’s the LOOOOOONG line, you know……the one that you’re praying is really short before you get there, then you turn the corner and realize it will be at LEAST 45 minutes until you’re boarding a jungle cruise through the “faux” Amazon?

Then there’s the “other” line. The one most people are just vaguely familiar with. The one over to the side and much shorter. The one I’ve actually overheard some complain they’re not in. Let me tell you all about it, but it will require going back just a bit, so be patient for a moment.

My Dad got sick overnight. Doctors couldn’t figure out what was going on. He first suffered severe sinus problems. Then he woke up one morning to realize he couldn’t see anything but weird colors in one eye. Then his ears started stopping up. The doctors said, “It’s stress, take a vacation”. He did that. A few weeks later, he woke up and couldn’t get out of bed. Doctors were baffled. They went from a stress diagnosis to Rheumatoid Arthritis. Now mind you, this man ran 8 miles a day, 5-6 times a week, and ate clean as a whistle (however clean a whistle is). Then more breathing problems began, then the fatigue set in. Doctors, after months of exams and tons of tests, couldn’t figure it out. It took a doctor in another state to finally properly diagnose him. It was a very rare type of cancer that affects all of your major organs. They told him it had spread and he had about 3 months to live. They began treating him with chemo drugs, and a plethora of other medications. They finally got the disease under control, but the damage was done to his lungs, kidneys, and other major organs. Eventually, he had to have a kidney transplant to continue to live, and my mother was a perfect match (they said they always knew that *smile*), so she gave him one of her kidneys. He would live, but life would never be the same as before the disease struck him. He was chronically tired, it was as if his feet weighed 100 pounds each, is the way he described it to me; and he couldn’t walk very far without being winded from the damage to his lungs (part of one had to be removed, and both were scarred from the tumors).

Now, back to the “other” line. My Dad took our family to Disney World from the time my sister and I were very young, and we visited there almost every other year. He hadn’t been in some time, due to his illness, so after he was in remission, I planned a trip for my family, along with my parents, to visit Disney again. I called Disney’s Customer Service Dept. and spoke with such an awesome cast member, who was very sympathetic to my Dad’s situation, and she informed me that we should go to City Hall when we arrived and get a special needs pass for him, which when shown to cast members at each ride/exhibit, would grant him speedy access, so he wouldn’t have to stand in the heat and regular line. Had it not been for this extremely thoughtful process of Disney, we would’ve never been able to take another trip with my Dad. My Dad was very reluctant to accept this, but we insisted, knowing he’d never be able to get through the trip without it.

We arrived at the Magic Kingdom, he showed his letter from his doctor, along with his transplant card, and City Hall issued him the special needs pass. We proceeded on through the park, and showed it to the cast member at the front of each ride, as we were instructed. You can’t IMAGINE how many dirty looks and snide remarks we received because my Dad appeared healthy as a horse on the outside. Because there was no visible problem, people treated us as if we were cheating the system or something. It made my Dad feel so bad, and we tried to shelter him as much as possible from the scowls and remarks.

Overall, we had an awesome trip with him, and he didn’t have to take as many rest breaks due to the special pass, so we were able to see more of the parks. Only 3 years later, my Dad passed away. We were so thankful for our last trip with him. The year after, we planned another trip to Disney, and took my mother with us to get her out of the house, and her mind off of being without Dad. This time, we stood in the LOOOONG line, for there was no special pass, for there was no Daddy. I stood in line behind my Mom, watching her giggling and playing with my son, and I thanked God that I was standing with her in the LOOOOONG line, that she didn’t require the short “other” line.

My reason for writing this is not to tug on your heart strings, but to tell you not to judge others you meet in the park that may be in the “other” line and don’t appear to need to be there. You have NO IDEA what one of the people in that party has endured, what the rest of the family with them has endured. Life is tough for us all – to some it’s tougher. So please think twice before making a remark easily heard by those in the “other” line. Trust me, they’d trade places with you ANY day of the week, to have their loved one healthy.

Every time we go back, I never forget to praise God for the LOOOOONG line, and I pray I never have to be in that quick, short “other” line ever again. Thanks also, to Disney and every cast member who made our last trip with Dad possible.

Ears to ya,
DeAnna Welch
