Disney Pixar Cars 2 Film Talent Brings the Characters to Life in Cars 2: The Video Game

Disney Pixar Cars 2 Film Talent Brings the Characters to Life in Cars 2: The Video Game

Disney Interactive Studios announced today a star-studded cast of celebrities straight from the upcoming Disney*Pixar animated film Cars 2 will lend their voices to Cars 2: The Video Game. The celebrity voice cast will include Larry the Cable Guy returning as Mater, Emily Mortimer as Holley Shiftwell, Tony Shalhoub reappearing as Luigi and John Turturro as Francesco Bernoulli.

“I’m excited to be back as the character of Mater in the upcoming Cars 2 film and video game,” said Larry the Cable Guy. “That rusty old tow truck can really git r done in Cars 2: The Video Game! I’ve even had the chance to play it and it was a real authentic Cars 2 experience.”

Larry the Cable Guy adds hilarious, down to earth appeal in the role of Lightning McQueen’s best friend, Mater the tow truck. Emily Mortimer’s Holley Shiftwell is a rookie field spy who tries to stick to the rules of her training. On the opposite end of the spectrum is Lightning McQueen’s new opponent — an Italian racer named Francesco Bernoulli, voiced by John Turturro. In his younger years, Francesco and pals used to sneak onto race tracks, but now he’s focused on taking on Lightning in the World Grand Prix. Another sweet Italian also returns to the game with Tony Shalhoub giving voice to tire specialist Luigi, the Fiat 500.

“The zany, eloquent, and quirky assemblage of characters will bring this game to life in such a fun and engaging manner,” said John Blackburn, vice president and general manager of Avalanche Software. “When you layer in the amazing cast of celebrity film talent giving voice to the game characters, it amplifies the experience even more.”

Cars 2: The Video Game is inspired by the upcoming Disney*Pixar animated film. The game will allow players to dive into the Cars 2 universe alongside some of their favorite Cars personalities in exotic locations spanning the globe. Cars 2: The Video Game will expand beyond the movie’s storyline as players take on the role of one of more than 20 different Cars characters and train to become top notch spies at the international spy training center, C.H.R.O.M.E. (Command Headquarters for Recon Operations and Motorized Espionage). Over the course of their training, players will take on dangerous missions, compete to become the fastest race car in the world and use their spy skills in non-stop action packed combat racing and battle arenas.

Cars 2: The Video Game launches on June 21, 2011 on all major gaming platforms including PlayStation(R)3 computer entertainment system, the Xbox 360(R) video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, Wii(TM), Nintendo DS(TM) and Windows PC/MAC. Cars 2: The Video Game for Nintendo DS will be rated “E”, with all other platforms rated “E10+” by the ESRB.

For Summer 2011, the Fun is Nonstop for Walt Disney World Resort Guests

For Summer 2011, the Fun is Nonstop for Walt Disney World Resort Guests

Talk about making vacation memories: In summer 2011, guests at Walt Disney World Resort will begin embarking on adventures to places no one has ever gone – to the planets Coruscant and Tatooine, located in a galaxy as far away as imagination can carry them – as “Star Tours – The Adventures Continue” opens at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

And over in the Magic Kingdom, guests can revel in the memories they’ve made, during a new nighttime show, “The Magic, The Memories, and You!”

Beyond “Star Tours” headlining the summer fun, here are some of the details about what’s in store:

Filling the night with memories

“The Magic, The Memories, and You!,” a dramatic new projection show filled with special effects and magic, transforms Cinderella Castle at Walt Disney World Resort and “it’s a small world” at Disneyland Resort into shimmering canvases for images of guests and the memories they made that day at Magic Kingdom and Disneyland Park.

The ten-minute experience dazzles park guests in ways never before experienced, themed to beloved Disney stories and with playful animated sequences that seem to defy the architecture of the buildings – and even “bring the architecture to life,” said Alan Bruun, associate creative director, Walt Disney World Entertainment. The spectacle is scheduled most nights with up to two shows per night depending on theme park operating hours and other special ticketed events.

So what else is new?

  • Guests wanting to venture off the beaten path at Disney’s Animal Kingdom have the chance during a new, immersive, add-on experience, Wild Africa Trek, that takes a small group of adventurers on personalized, guided excursions that include a bushwalk through unexplored areas of the forest along with over-landing in customized vehicles across an animal-filled savanna. On these expert-led treks, extended time is spent observing and learning about the wildlife. Reservations for Wild Africa Trek (ages 8 and up) can be arranged by calling 407/939-8687. More information: Disneyworld.com/disneyafricatrek.
  • “Jake and the Never Land Pirates” landed at Disney’s Hollywood Studios March 4, 201l less than a month after they cast off on their first adventure on Disney Channel as part of the launch of Disney Junior programming, designed for children ages 2 to 7. Jake and the Never Land Pirates perform at Disney Junior–Live on Stage! show also includes current favorites from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Handy Manny and Little Einsteins.
  • Guests will be able to take part this summer in an energetic and fun-filled meet-and-play experience with Phineas and Ferb at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Phineas and Ferb – from the popular television show of the same name – “know what they’re gonna do today”: the duo will make a movie all about their crazy adventures. With the help of guests and movie director Cletus Filmore, they will recreate some of their favorite moments…unless they are taking a break to meet with their adoring fans, signing autographs and taking pictures. The fun will take place near the exit of “Muppet Vision 3-D.” In addition, Winnie the Pooh replaces Lotso in the meet-and-greet location at Feature Animation. Lotso will continue to be seen in the Pixar Pals Countdown to Fun! Parade. A “Cars 2” meet-and-greet is scheduled to open June 5, 2011 near “Muppet Vision 3-D,” and Lightning McQueen will replace Herbie the Love Bug on stage in Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show beginning June 5, 2011.
  • Mickey Mouse for a meet-and-greet at his permanent new location in “Town Square Theater” can obtain a Disney’s FASTPASS ticket specifying a one-hour window when they can return to see the popular character for hugs, photos and autographs — without waiting in the standby queue. It marks the first time the complimentary, computerized service has been available for a character meet-and-greet at any Disney Park.
  • New interactive queues are greeting Magic Kingdom guests. A visit to the Haunted Mansion now begins with a new story line inspired by some of the characters previously seen only inside the Haunted Mansion. The new interactive queue includes new crypts and other “spooky” sights to see, as well as tombstones with witty epitaphs to the dearly departed like, “Drink A Toast To Our Friend Ken, Fill Your Glass And Don’t Say ‘When.’” Inside the attraction new hitchhiking ghosts board the “Doom Buggies” to interact and play with weary mortals thanks to the newest and most innovative technologies. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. A towering honey tree welcomes Fantasyland guests at the entrance, which young guests are welcome to climb through and explore. Further down the path, guests can stomp their feet to rid Rabbit’s garden of pesky gophers, or they can drum a tune on Rabbit’s fruit.
  • The “Sounds Like Summer” concert series returns to Epcot featuring tribute bands that will bring back the sounds of decades of summers gone by. Opening with Hotel California – a Salute to the Eagles, June’s lineup of bands will also “play” tribute to the timeless tunes of the Bee Gees and Bon Jovi. Sounds like Summer concerts are under the skies of the open-air America Gardens Theatre in World Showcase at Epcot. Show times are 5:45, 7 and 8:15 p.m. Here’s the summer lineup (subject to change without notice):

June 12 – June 18: Hotel California — A Salute to the Eagles

June 19 – June 25: Stayin’ Alive — A Tribute to the Bee Gees

June 26 – July 2: Slippery When Wet — The Ultimate Bon Jovi Tribute

July 10 – July 16: Frontiers — A Tribute to Journey

July 17 – July 23: Karin Lawson — A Tribute to Janet Jackson

July 24 – July 30: 2U — A Tribute to U2

*Summer concerts are included with Epcot admission*

  • Favorite Pixar pals perform in an all-new Disney’s Hollywood Studios parade, “Pixar Pals Countdown to Fun!,” showcasing appearances by four characters not previously featured – Remy and Emile from “Ratatouille” and Carl and Russell from “UP.” The parade is performed to a new musical track from the current Pixar parade at Disney California Adventure. The new show replaces “Block Party Bash,” which was presented between March 2008 and January 2011.
  • A Magic Kingdom favorite, “Enchanted Tiki Room,” is scheduled to reopen later this summer in a version reminiscent of the original show (called Tropical Serenade). The attraction has been entertaining guests since the theme park’s opening day Oct. 1, 1971. Its winged hosts — Jose, Fritz, Pierre and Michael — led 200 other birds, tikis and flowers in an entertaining Polynesian revue. The Adventureland attraction was inspired by Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room, which opened at Disneyland Park in 1963.
  • AMC Theatres has put a new twist on the date-night concept of “dinner and a movie” at AMC Downtown Disney 24: “a movie with dinner.” Six auditoriums at the Downtown Disney West Side location have been transformed into AMC Dine-In Theatres where guests can watch the latest movies while dining from a menu including quesadillas, burgers, flatbread pizzas, grilled sandwiches and house specialties as well as appetizers and desserts. Reserved seating and table-top dining is offered.
  • Via Napoli Ristorante e Pizzeria. Epcot’s lively, 300-seat restaurant that is operated by the Patina Group is full of energy with an open kitchen and three wood-burning pizza ovens that represent Italy’s three active volcanoes (Mount Etna, Mount Vesuvius and Stromboli).  Those ovens crank up to 700 F with oak wood, and with a touch of Disney whimsy, the “faces” of the fiery ovens open their “mouths.” Patina Executive Chef Charlie Restivo focuses on the pizzas, with mozzarella flown in from Italy, the water from a source that is similar to the water in Naples, and San Marzano tomatoes.
  • La Hacienda de San Angel and Cantina de San Angel. At the Mexico pavilion at Epcot World Showcase, two eateries nestle along World Showcase Lagoon.  La Cantinaoffers quick-service and features tacos, nachos and empanadas, and a variety of frozen margaritas.  La Hacienda is a table-service restaurant with contemporary Mexican fare such as mixed seafood grill, roasted pork loin and flank steak. La Hacienda has its own “tequila ambassador” and features tequila flights and a new line of margaritas, including a coffee margarita.  La Cantina, with indoor and outdoor seating, is open daily for lunch and dinner; 250-seat La Hacienda opens daily at 4 p.m.

Disney World Quick Tips – Your To-Do List

Disney World Quick Tips - Your To-Do List

I make two to-do lists for my trip: One big one that I start months before (stop laughing) and a shorter one that I use in the last few days before we travel.  One thing I noticed though, was that I sometimes forgot to finish the last few things on the list, only to remember when I was about halfway down I-95 on my way to Disney World.

So a few years ago, I started a new tradition:  I tape the list to the back of the front door, that way I’m bound to look at it as I leave the house. In fact, I look at it several times as I’m going in and out packing the car.  I can’t tell you how much this has helped.  I keep a little highlighter nearby so I can cross off tasks I’ve completed.

It’s one of those little things that can make your trip a little easier and ensure that you’re not out at midnight looking for a charger for your phone. What about you, do you have a to-do list and if so, how to you make sure you don’t forget to complete all your tasks?

Ask a Disney Question: Visiting WDW the First Two Weeks in November.

This question comes from Jazmine, who asks:

Is it better to go to Disney World the 1st two weeks of November?  How is the weather during that time?  Will they have Christmas decorations up during that time? And last but not least is it busy during that time.  We are going to be staying at Port Orleans Riverside. Have a magical day and keep spreading your magic.

Jazmine:

Thanks for your question and for reading Chip and Co. We appreciate it a lot.  Early November is a great time to visit Disney World. You can usually get a discount of some kind and the crowds are not bad. The only times you’ll see a slight increase in crowds is during the so-called “Jersey Week” but it’s really just a slight bump in crowd levels.  Overall, with low crowds and great weather, it’s a fantastic time to visit.

Christmas decorations are usually up in the parks by November 2. The exception is the large Christmas tree in Town  Square in the Magic Kingdom, which doesn’t go up until after the Christmas parade taping in early December.  Resort decorations take a little longer. While they are often up my mid-month, expect the resorts to be completely decorated by Thanksgiving week.  Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, the nightly castle lighting ceremony, and the Osborne Festival of Lights in Hollywood Studios usually starts around the 8th or the 9th, so you can enjoy that as well. Best of all, you can do all of this without the crowds.

Good luck and have fun planning your vacation!

A Round of Golf at Disney World

When booking many packages or free dining, often times you will receive a free round of golf at one of the two golf courses, Fantasia or Winter Summerland Golf Course.  On a recent vacation to Disney, I had not done any research on which of these courses was considered better than the other and quickly chose the Winter Summerland Golf Course thinking that the name sounded interesting enough. We got there to the counter and got all of the paperwork done to get our free round of golf. I saw that the prices for our free round of golf should have been $12 for adults and $10 for children ages 3-9. Children under the age of 3 are free. The hours for the Courses are 10 AM to 11 PM.

As we headed to our first golf hole, we began to take in the surroundings and decided to take the Winter course (with the other course being the Summer course). We learned that the story of the Golf Course: One evening following a hectic Christmas, Santa was flying over Florida back to his home in the North Pole. When he looked down from his sled he spied snow on the ground in Florida! He decided to fly down to further inspect the area, the later decided that this would be a great place for his elves to vacation when off-duty. As a result, Santa created the Winter Summerland Golf Course. Some of the elves enjoyed the Summer while others enjoyed the Winter, thus the need for two courses to accommodate all of Santa’s elves! And an area created by Santa is obviously going to be fun!

Here is one of the awesome holes and me trying to pose like Minnie Mouse!  I know, she looks cuter, but lest I try:)  We enjoyed every hole, as each one seemed to offer some surprise.  I would give you more details, but I do not want to spoil the fun:)

I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and would like to return to this course, as well as visit the Fantasia one.  I believe that if you are visiting the nearby Blizzard Beach for the day, this would be a great way to spend part of that same day.  I was able to visit the course on our day of travel to the Walt Disney World area.  If one is traveling to this course by Disney bus, they would need to travel here from any of the parks or hotels.  The course took us approximately 90 minutes, but could have taken a bit less time if we were not having so much fun taking photos and making sure to see all of the details.  With a bus ride to the course, the entire experience could take around 2 1/2 hours.  Assuming that a guest has already paid for a theme park ticket, 2 1/2 hours is a load of time away from the attractions especially when you consider that you are paying to get in the parks PLUS to also play the round of golf.  My frugal wallet says to definitely experience a round of golf here, but on a day where you do not plan to hit the parks!

Disney World Quick Tip: It’s Everyone’s Vacation

Disney World Quick Tip: It's Everyone's Vacation
Sophie and Donald Duck having so much fun!

In two short days, my extended family will be making the trek to Disney World — nine of us in all!  We have been planning this vacation since September of last year, and now, with our vacation so close, I can’t stand the waiting!  As the primary planner for the vacation, it was my goal to make sure that everyone’s wishes were heard, and accommodated as best as I could.  We’ve got three first time Disney World visitors, some veterans in myself, my wife, and my daughter, my niece and her boyfriend, and even a Grandma coming along, so it was really important to me that we thought of everyone’s needs and handled them accordingly.

It is important for everyone to remember that, while Sophie and Anna Jane are the youngest, and this vacation is certainly planned with them in mind, that all of the people in our party are on vacation, and that if someone wants to do something, they are more than welcome to do so.  If Axl and Stephanie want to go and spend the day together at Hollywood Studios, then they are welcome to do so.  If Cindy and I want to ride Space Mountain, and Sophie doesn’t, then she can wait with one of the adults.  The biggest key to having fun on vacation, no matter where you are, is to remember that we are all on vacation, and that all of our wishes need to be granted during the trip.

Have fun on your Disney World trip, and remember, it’s everyone’s vacation, even Mom and Dad’s, so kids, think of them when you are on vacation, and ask them what ride they want to ride next a time or two.  It will likely surprise them, but please them as well to know that you are being so considerate!

Disneyland Quick Tips: Disneyland Dining

Disneyland Quick Tips: Disneyland Dining

Today in my Quick Tip I want to discuss the difference in Dining between parks. Disneyland Dining is completely different from Walt Disney World.  It’s more like a voucher system where you can use the cash value (except for snacks).

You get 1 Character meal a $15 meal voucher ($10 for children) and a snack per day.  So you can use the Character meal vouchers (the 3-day dining plan has 3 resort Character meals and that’s just too much sometimes) at other restaurants like Blue Bayou or elsewhere in parks or hotels and you can even combine vouchers if you go to a Signature dining restaurant.

Sneak Peek: Storybook Circus at Magic Kingdom

Sneak Peek: Storybook Circus at Magic Kingdom

I always make it a point to ride Dumbo at least once when i’m in Walt Disney World, but during my stop in the Magic Kingdom last week, my Dumbo desire had an agenda…to get a peek at the construction in Fantasyland!

I saw Beast’s Castle among the clutter of steel poles and large machinery and it made me that much more excited to see what the new Fantasyland will have to offer!

Disney Parks Blog released news this morning about Storybook Circus in Fantasyland. The Storybook Circus theme is based on the classic Disney film “Dumbo”. Casey Jr.’s circus includes the tents you would expect to see in a circus and the animals…who will cool off your little one’s near the train station.

Dumbo will be doubled and Barnstormer will be re-themed and hosted by “The Great Goofini”.

Take advantage of free dining and take your own ride on Dumbo to get a peek at the Fantasyland expansion! Book by August 27, 2011 for travel August 28, 2011 through September 24, 2011. Contact Pixie Vacations for your free quote! Book with Pixie in June and you’ll be entered into a drawing for a $250 Disney gift card!

Disney World Quick Tip – Using a Stroller as a Wheelchair

Disney World Quick Tip - Using a Stroller as a Wheelchair

Walt Disney World allows parents of special needs children to use a stroller as wheelchair. The stroller will be treated just like it is a wheelchair allowing you to use special entrances as needed. It will also allow your child to stay in the stroller when other strollers have to be parked, allowing you to take it all the way to the loading area at attractions. If you are planning on using a stroller as a wheelchair for your child at Walt Disney World here are a few tips.

  • Stop by guest relations and pick up a guest assistance card. The type of card you get will depend on the needs of your child.
  • Also ask for the red stroller as a wheelchair tag.
  • When you come to attractions that have stroller parking, just show the tag and your guest assistance card to the cast members. They will open up the line and let you continue with your stroller.
  • On attractions where the loading and unloading areas are in different places, the cast members will take your stroller to unloading area for you.
  • If you have any questions don’t be afraid to ask the cast members.

Thank you to Lucinda at Without a Care in the World for allowing me to use her photo.

Lightning McQueen Joins the Cast at Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show

Lightning McQueen Joins the Cast at Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

I’m happy to announce that Lightning McQueen, star of “Cars” and “Cars 2,” will make his debut appearance at the Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios later this summer.

Look for his cameo when the stunt show director sets up a highlight reel dedicated to “one of the greatest race cars of all time.” But just as the crew leaves to set up for the next stunt demonstration, the highlight video feed is interrupted with a distress call from Mater, Lightning’s rusty sidekick. He warns the audience that secret agent Finn McMissile has issued a report of enemy spy activity at “these here coordinates.” Lightning McQueen speeds in to calm the audience down and explains that Mater is probably just telling tall tales again.

Just then, a mysterious black automobile appears on the stage. I don’t want to give away all the details here, but let’s just say what follows is quite an animated game of cat and mouse.

Guests who wish to meet Lightning McQueen and Mater before or after the show can do so at the Winner’s Circle (formerly Luigi’s Garage), which features larger-than-life trophies and posters that depict famous races from around the world. Be sure to check out Lightning McQueen’s upgraded international look, too.

Disney World Quick Tip: Dining without Reservations

Disney World Quick Tip: Dining without Reservations

If you look around the Disney community, you’ll hear a lot about dining reservations and dining planning.  For most guests, the rich variety and quality of food options available on property are an important part of their vacation, and dedicated planners take advantage of the 180 day reservation window to try to secure their restaurant of choice.

But what if you aren’t one of those planners?  What if your plans change?  What if you can’t get the Le Cellier reservation you wanted?  Is there any hope?

There is if you’re flexible.

Your party can get seated as a walk-up at most Disney dining if you’re willing to arrive just as the restaurant opens.  That may mean having your ‘big meal’ at lunch rather than dinner, or heading out to a resort restaurant a bit earlier than usual, but it will allow you to eat almost anywhere you desire.  My husband and I have walked into Le Cellier, Artist Point, Yachtsman Steakhouse, Rose & Crown and Sci-Fi Dine In because we arrived when they opened and put our names in for a seat.

There are no guarantees with walk-up seating, particularly during free dining where few tables are held open for walk-up guests, but more often than not, it’s a way to get that dining experience you’ve been craving without a 180 day ADR!
