Reuniting audiences with Pooh, Tigger, Rabbit, Piglet, Owl, Kanga, Roo and last, but certainly not least, Eeyore (who has lost his tail), “Winnie the Pooh” is a honey of an in-home release containing hours of immersive bonus features, including exclusive animated shorts “The Ballad of Nessie” and “Mini-Adventures of Winnie the Pooh: The Balloon;” a sing-along viewing option; an informative behind-the-scenes featurette for the whole family and deleted scenes with director commentary – all available on Blu-ray Combo Pack.

Inspired by the beloved stories from A.A. Milne’s books and crafted in Disney’s classic style, “Winnie the Pooh,” is the most critically-acclaimed animated film of 2011*. It is narrated by the voice of John Cleese and features the vocal talents of legendary voice actor Jim Cummings (over 350 voices including Gnomeo & Juliet) and a host of other distinctive actors including Craig Ferguson (TV’s ‘The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson’), Tom Kenny (TV’s ‘SpongeBob SquarePants’), Bud Luckey (Toy Story 3) and musical performances by Zooey Deschanel (indie folk band “She & Him”).

The all-new “Winnie the Pooh” brings back to life the timeless charm, wit and whimsy of the original featurettes and characters. Sure to become a family favorite for every household, it is directed by Stephen Anderson (Meet The Robinsons) and Don Hall (The Princess and The Frog) and Executive Produced by John Lasseter.

Film Synopsis
Disney returns to the Hundred Acre Wood with “Winnie the Pooh.” Featuring the timeless charm, wit and whimsy of the original featurettes, this all-new movie reunites audiences with the philosophical “bear of very little brain” and friends Tigger, Rabbit, Piglet, Owl, Kanga, Roo – and last, but certainly not least, Eeyore, who has lost his tail. “Ever have one of those days where you just can’t win, Eeyore?” asks Pooh. Owl sends the whole gang on a wild quest to save Christopher Robin from an imaginary culprit. It turns out to be a very busy day for a bear who simply set out to find some honey. Disney’s all-new “Winnie the Pooh” movie is inspired by three stories from A.A. Milne’s books in Disney’s classic, hand-drawn art.

Jerry Bruckheimer: 'Pirates 5' Being Rewritten, Speaks out on the 'Lone Ranger' Issues

Jerry Bruckheimer is one of Hollywood’s hottest producers, and one of Disney’s biggest collaborators. He is the man behind the highly successful ‘Pirates of the Caribbean‘ franchise,  and has just offered updates on two of his upcoming projects ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 5’ and ‘The Lone Ranger’ in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter. Let’s check in on the ‘Pirates’ series first. Bruckheimer confirmed that the fifth film in the hugely popular series is on the way, but we may be farther away from it then originally planned. He points out that they have a script, but they think that they could do better on the sequel, and they’ve moved away from that script and will are starting over at the outline phase for the film. Hit the jump for the updates on ‘The Lone Ranger’.

Extra Fun with Disney Souvenirs

Extra Fun with Disney Souvenirs
Squirt at dinner

I used to buy souvenirs for our family and friends when we first started going to Walt Disney World. We stopped doing that several years ago, however, as it gets expensive and unnecessary after years of traveling to the parks. Now, I usually don’t shop for souvenirs for friends unless they are for other Disney lovers, like my friend Susan, or if it is for someone’s birthday or  special occasion gift.

A couple of years ago, I saw a special plush that caught my eye and I just had to bring it back for my friend and co-worker, Shiela. Shiela is not a Disney fan; I am the Disney fan in the office. Shiela is a sea turtle fan. So a couple of years ago I ran across a stuffed Squirt and just had to bring it to her. When I was back in WDW a few weeks ago, I ran across a really cute Squirt keychain and just had to get it.

The Squirt keychain is the perfect size; just small enough to take anywhere, and that is just what she did. She just got back from her vacation on the beaches of Mexico and look what she sent me.

Bringing a souvenir to a friend is a nice idea and it can also provide extra fun, even around the world. I just love it when people spread the Disney fun around. This is a great idea for kids to do, especially for those just beginning an interest in photography. I thought it might be an idea for many of you! Happy touring!

Worth the Ride – Main Street Vehicles

Main Street Vehicle

If you speed down Main Street, U.S.A. towards your favorite attractions, you may have never noticed all the vehicles of Main Street.  I was guilty of this until the past few years.  And even then, I noticed them, but never knew how to take a ride.

On our last trip, I decided it was our turn.  After the rope dropped and we crossed underneath the train station.  Around town square, there are signs for the different vehicles, including the horse-pulled trolley, horseless carriage, fire engine, and omnibus.  We headed towards a short line – the horse-pulled trolley.  These are one-way vehicles.  They will give you a slow, scenic tour of Main Street and drop you off at Cinderella Castle.  Though you can’t interact with the citizens of Main Street, you can soak up the atmosphere without walking into people or signs (hey, it could happen).

main street vehicles
View of Cinderella Castle from horse drawn trolley

The vehicles go back and forth between Town Square and Cinderella Castle throughout the day.  I’ve heard that horses take turns and don’t run for the entire day, so animal lovers, don’t worry.  These guys are treated well!  Running since the park opening in 1971, these vehicles represent different times represented on Main Street, U.S.A.  The horse-drawn trolley represents the beginning of Main Street, the year circa 1890.

In our past few visits, I’ve taken pictures of the horse drawn trolley and it’s always been driven by this same cast member, Bill.  We did stop and talk to him and I after I mentioned I always see him, he laughed saying he’s been part-time for the past few years.  Part time or full time, he’s a wonderful driver, cast member, and addition to the Disney Parks.  If you’re not in a hurry on your next trip, stop in Town Square to take a ride on a Main Street Vehicle.  Hopefully, you’ll fully enjoy the immersion in Disney Magic!

Shop like a Diva – Downtown Disney

Shop like a Diva - Downtown DisneyWe can’t forget Downtown Disney! Even though we’ve already talked about where to shop in Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom, you obviously STILL WANT MORE. Well, I’m not going to disappoint!

Downtown Disney

Obviously, Downtown Disney is the mother-load for Disney Shopping, but it just doesn’t have the same feel to me as shopping in parks. However, If I’m buying its probably at one of these stores:

For anything that I looked at multiple times in the park and never bought – World of Disney. This is LITERALLY the largest Disney character store ON EARTH, and it feels that way. If you are looking for it, and its Disney-fied, then you will find it here. Common purchase for the Divas include kitchen accessories (oven mitts, coffee cups), scarves (best selection of cute, discreet, mickey mouse dresses/scarves where the pattern is cleverly woven-in). I wear my scarves all winter long and people rarely seem to recognize the pattern, costume jewelry – at least one watch, ring, or pair of earrings will always be bought here (unless I already got them at Mouse Gears in Epcot). *Warning, this store is always packed, EXTREMELY EASY TO GET LOST/ SEPEAREATED FROM YOUR FAMILY IN, AND JUST GENERALLY OVERWHELMING* Like I said, different feel from shopping in park. I normally feel more rushed and frantic in World of Disney (so more impulse buys maybe?)

For tweens and/or teens – TrenD Really some super cute and unique things in TrenD. Love some of their Alice-styled things. Mostly has things that my right thigh couldn’t even fit in though, so that’s why I suggested the tweens/teens, but you might just LOVE them!

For SERIOUS Pin Collectors- Disney Pin Traders : If you’re looking for a pin, and its not been retired, you’re likely to find it at the Downtown Disney Pin Traders shop. Its huge huge huge. (I personally don’t do pin trading, but know many people who are obsessed with it. We use them with my son to mark rides he’s been on and collect the ride pins exclusively).

For kitchen accessories – Mickey’s Pantry – I usually get something that can go in my kitchen at Mickey’s Pantry. While our kitchen is in no-way overrun with Disney, there are some things I love like my measuring cups/ spoons, oven mitt, apron, and wine glasses. It’s a good way to bring a little mickey home with you and have something replaced that you “got as a wedding gift 10 years ago”.

For posters/ paintings – The Art of Disney – Each time we leave Magic Kingdom I drool over the vintage ride and movie posters in the exit tunnels. They are simply magnificent and one day I swear I’ll buy one, and when I do I’ll know where I can go to get one – The Art of Disney. They have a touch-screen computer there that allows you to find every kind of Disney art-work you could imagine. If you’d like a beautiful poster or painting, here’s the place to find it.

And there you are Chip & Co. readers, the Disney Diva’s favorite shopping spots at Walt Disney World! Enjoy!

Disney Food Confession – Chocolate Peanut Butter Cupcake

Disney Food Confession - Chocolate Peanut Butter Cupcake
Where to find it: Starring Rolls Cafe at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
What is it? A chocolate cupcake with peanut butter filling, peanut butter icing, and chocolate shavings.

Why you want it: It is moist chocolate cake with peanut butter icing that is not too sweet, big enough to share, and a great use of a snack credit. It also keeps really well so if you have a refrigerator in your room you can enjoy your leftover cupcake later in the week or like me, when you get home from vacation.

Debby Ryan is ‘Jessie’s’ Girl.

“JESSIE”
Stars: Debby Ryan, Kevin Chamberlin
Network: The Disney Channel
Airs: Fridays at 9PM EST (New Episodes)

My Grade: B-
My 10-year-old’s Grade: A-

Debby Ryan is 'Jessie's' Girl.
"Jessie"

Disney Channel alum and fan-favorite, Debby Ryan (“The Suite Life on Deck” & 16 Wishes), is making quite the cute little career for herself on the flagship channel.  Aside from her regular appearances on “The Suite Life on Deck,” and her starring role in the Disney TV-movie, 16 Wishes (2010), she has made regular appearances on popular Disney shows such as “Hannah Montana” and “Wizards of Waverly Place.”  Now, Ryan is being thrust out of the supporting-cast shadows right into the starring role limelight with her new family sitcom, “Jessie.”  The show is classic Disney Channel, which is both a blessing and a curse.  Obviously Disney knows how to produce a family friendly show that is entertaining to young children, teenagers, and in most cases, parents too, while still remaining age-appropriate for the Disney brand.  Negatively, however, it gets redundant at times, and “Jessie” feels a lot like many other programs that have aired on the channel with very little uniqueness to show for it.

Debby Ryan is 'Jessie's' Girl.
Peyton List & Debby Ryan

The basic plot of “Jessie” centers on Ryan’s character, Jessie, who has moved to New York City from a small Texas town and landed a pretty high-profile Nanny gig.  She is hired to be the Nanny for the Ross family.  The Ross parental figures are wealthy, NYC moguls who are rarely in their upper class, penthouse high-rise apartment.  The four Ross kids are always there, it seems, and they are each adorably charming in their own way.  Emma (played by Peyton List) is the eldest child (13), a bubbly but often reserved tween who is the only biological child of the Ross’.  Luke (played by Cameron Boyce) is a 12-year-old “ladies man,” who is extremely fond of Jessie, and by that I mean he has a crush on her, which leads to some pretty hilarious scenes.  Ravi (played by Karan Brar) is a 10-year-old Indian-born boy who is extremely proud of his heritage, but considers his new adoption and life in America as the greatest thing that could have happened to him.  Finally, Zuri (played by Skai Jackson) is the youngest of the bunch (7).  Her intelligence is well-advanced for her age, and she is also highly creative and imaginative, often introducing us (and Jessie) to new and interesting “imaginary friends and pets.”

The show has a couple of recurring supporting roles, as well, in the form of Bertram (played by Kevin Chamberlin) and Tony (played by Chris Galya).  Bertram is the rich couple’s butler, who is always finds himself acting as a “tour guide” for Jessie in the Nanny job.  Bertram’s character is very reminiscent to someone like “Mr. Moseby” (“Suite Life”), because he is always trying to straighten the kids up, but he can’t seem to help allying with them at the same time.  Tony is the 20-year-old doorman who works in the Ross’ apartment building.  He is the “dumb hunk” of the show, and he may also be Jessie’s eventual love interest, as the two have already shared their first date just four episodes into the series, so we’ll see.  The best supporting cast member on the show is NYC, even though you won’t see it in the credits.  The show was taped in Los Angeles, but the producers have done a nice job at recreating the cityscapes.  Regardless of the physical attributes, the show benefits from using the “fish out of water” angle with Jessie’s character, because believe me, any teenager in her shoes that moved from the middle of nowhere to NYC is going to feel culture shock, and in a TV format – that is pure gold.  Oh yeah, and look out for Mr. Kipling who is the family’s 7-foot-long monitor lizard.  He is often showing up as the unconventional pet supplying us with plenty of the show’s most improv’d moments.

Debby Ryan is 'Jessie's' Girl.
The Cast of "Jessie"

“Jessie” has charm.  To me, it is a little bit of classic shows like “Charles in Charge,” “Mr. Belvedere,” and “Different Strokes” all mixed together.  Even still, it is more like the Disney favorites, including some as recent as “The Suite Life” and “Good Luck Charlie.”  Debby Ryan is as cute as a button, and she is bound to be the next big Disney Channel name.  Do I think she will achieve Selena Gomez or Miley Cyrus fame?  Probably not, but that may not be a bad thing.  I consulted my daughter for this article because she loves this show, and you can see the grade that she gave it above.  Also, I’ll leave you with this – my daughter also said that “Jessie” was the best Disney Channel program on the air right now, sharing that declaration with “ANT Farm.”  Basically if your kids like any teenaged based show on Disney, they will probably also like “Jessie” – airing new episodes every Friday night at 9PM (EST).

Downtown Disney Cupcake Showdown: Candy Cauldron vs. BabyCakes NYC

Downtown Disney Cupcake Showdown: Candy Cauldron vs. BabyCakes NYC
Downtown Disney cupcakes: Candy Cauldron (l.) and DTD BabyCakes NYC (r.).

On my latest trip to Walt Disney World, I decided to put two very different types of cupcakes to the taste test while at Downtown Disney (DTD).

Call it a cupcake challenge. Or even the Downtown Disney Cupcake Showdown, if you will. I ate, side by side, one Candy Cauldron seasonal cupcake and one DTD BabyCakes NYC cupcake, the vegan and gluten-, dairy-, egg-free baked goods store.

To give each cupcake a fair taste test, I chose two different flavors. That way, I could evaluate each cupcake in its own right. I thought if I got two similarly flavored treats – eating them side by side – one would inevitably have to be “better.”

Downtown Disney’s Candy Cauldron cupcake

Downtown Disney is one of my top five WDW candy stops. So how does it rate for cupcakes? For the cupcake showdown, I tried a fall flavor: a yellow cake with cinnamon frosting that measured over one inch in places.  The cake was light-headed-toward dense side of the cupcake continuum, but was consistent in texture. It also offered the mild flavor I associate with a yellow cake.

The frosting had a very slight grainy texture, in part because I took it outside in the heat to snack on. What I mostly tasted in the frosting was the sugar; the cinnamon taste became less noticeable after the first couple of bites. And that’s what I normally think of in a cupcake – a portable vehicle for my sugar rush.

DTD BabyCakes NYC’s cupcake

DTD BabyCakes NYC’s brownie cupcake, with vanilla frosting, contains no dairy, egg, wheat, gluten free. I chose the brownie cupcake because it’s one of their best sellers, along with the red velvet cupcake.

First, I don’t claim the BabyCakes NYC’s cupcake tasted exactly like a “regular” cupcake. It was far less sweet and – like the Candy Cauldron cupcake – fell more on the dense side of the cupcake continuum, but moister. That said, this cupcake was a tasty bit of sweetness in its own right.

The BabyCakes NYC cupcake was smaller, about 75-80% the size of the Candy Cauldron. Most of the difference in size could be attributed to the frosting, as BabyCakes used about 1/2″ or less. The frosting, however, was nicely creamy and had a marked vanilla taste. It was sweet but not overpowering. Again, not like a typical frosting – even though it melted just as quickly in the heat.

I could also taste the difference in the cake portion of the DTD BabyCakes NYC brownie cupcake. It was a subtle difference in texture rather than taste. As for the chocolate flavor? The BabyCakes’ chocolate flavor was subtle, with small pieces of chocolate for extra kick. Better yet, there wasn’t a sugary aftertaste I associate with cheap chocolate.

See the DTD BabyCakes NYC menu

The Real Challenge – Choosing just one Downtown Disney cupcake

As ambitious as is my sweet tooth, I found impossible to finish both cupcakes. They were both worthy of the term dessert.

What are the conclusions of my taste test? First, both are dense cupcakes, so you’ll be happy if that’s the cupcake camp to which you belong. And they’re better cupcakes than I’ve eaten in other places at Walt Disney World, including – gasp  – Main Street Bakery at Magic Kingdom, Writer’s Stop at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, or even the Cupcake Duo at the DTD AMC Theatres Fork & Screen. I’d order from either Downtown Disney place again.

But if pressed to choose just one place for my WDW cupcake fix, it’s got to be DTD BabyCakes NYC. Because I don’t have dietary restrictions, the fact that it’s vegan and free of so many allergens is secondary to its taste.

The taste was more to my liking, more subtly sweet, and relied on its high-quality ingredients for taste. And with DTD BabyCakes NYC, I found the elements I like in a cupcake: a smaller treat that offered a better balance between cake and frosting, a creamy frosting texture with a cake that is both moist and dense.

Want to see another cupcake showdown? How about DTD BabyCakes NYC vs. Starring Rolls?

Disney Confidential – The Polynesian Resort to Undergo Massive Refurbishment.

Disney Confidential - The Polynesian Resort to Undergo Massive Refurbishment.

Hey there guys and gals, Anonymouse here.

Do you recall a few months back when I told you about a major refurbishment planned for the Polynesian?  People thought I was crazy!  You’d have thought I was telling people that Goofy was being deported (he’s French, you know. And has an Interpol warrant.*).  I understand the hoopla:  No other Disney resort has so many devoted fans and while Anonymouse does not love this resort, she gets the attachment. Sort of.

Disney Confidential - The Polynesian Resort to Undergo Massive Refurbishment.

Remember when the Brady Bunch went to Hawaii? It’s like that.  And you’re entitled to love it. That’s the great thing about Disney World. There’s something for everyone.  Even people like Bobby Brady.

In the middle of all the hubbub, we issued apologies, wrote retractions, and generally hung our heads a little low.  But the truth is, we had great sources on this information and we believed them. And it’s not like I spend all my time slipping bell services $5 bills (sometimes works), listening to Mousekeeping gossip while they clean (too busy stealing toiletries out of those carts) or batting my ridiculously long eyelashes at resort management (this never works, I just do it because I enjoy it). I’ve got some good sources. And they told me to expect something big in 2013.  But we didn’t want to cause problems (no, really, that is Chip’s job).  And we certainly didn’t want anyone to change their vacations. And mostly, we didn’t want to get sued because we’re basically broke enough already.  So we backed off.

Well now it turns out that some of the major sites, some of which attacked us on this issue, are saying the same thing about this refurbishment. I’m not going to rehash it here. You can read probably the best source here.

I’m just saying I told you so.  Next time, listen to Anonymouse.   And eat your vegetables, too.

*Just so you know, Goofy is not French and the best of my knowledge, does not have any warrants.  Duffy the bear, on the other hand. Well, I’m just saying to watch your back with that one.

Anywho that is all the Disney Gossip/News I have right now.

A Spooktacular in the Sky at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts

Happy HalloWishes Fireworks at Magic Kingdom ParkNo other fireworks displays in the world compare to the spectaculars we put on at Disney Parks, and some of my favorites are the special shows we do for seasonal events.

When my family and I attend Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party in Magic Kingdom Park each year, Happy HalloWishes is at the top of our must-see list. Inspired by The Haunted Mansion, the show uses the “Grim Grinning Ghosts” theme song and is narrated by that attraction’s Ghost Host, who invites some of the greatest Disney villains along for a round of “Scary-oke!” Everything builds toward an explosive, Scream-Along finale!

Happy HalloWishes was created in 2005 by our Creative Entertainment team, led by Steven Davison. They brought together amazing pyrotechnic effects with dramatic lighting, enveloping sound and animated projections on Cinderella Castle to create a completely unique experience for Halloween guests.

Halloween Screams Fireworks at Disneyland Park

A similar show, Halloween Screams, is also now a featured part of Mickey’s Halloween Party at Disneyland park. There, Jack Skellington serves as “Master of Scare-monies,” kicking off the festivities as his ghost dog Zero makes a special appearance in the sky above Sleeping Beauty Castle.

Whichever park you choose for Halloween fun, our fireworks tricks are sure to give you a treat!
