Official Pixar’s Brave Trailer Goes Live

Official Pixar's Brave Trailer Goes Live

Disney/Pixar has officially released the teaser trailer for its 2012 film, Brave, which is attached to the screenings of Cars 2 3D.

The rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland serve as the backdrop for Brave, a new tale that joins the land’s ancient lore — stories of epic battles and mystical legends passed down for generations. Directed by Mark Andrews and Brenda Chapman, and produced by Katherine Sarafian, Brave is the grand adventure of Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald), a skilled archer who confronts tradition, destiny and the fiercest of beasts to discover the true meaning of courage.

The film also features the voices of Emma Thompson, Billy Connolly, Julie Walters, Kevin McKidd, Craig Ferguson and Robbie Coltrane. Brave, full of heart, memorable characters and Pixar’s signature humor, takes aim at theaters on June 22, 2012, and will be presented in Disney Digital 3D™ in select theaters.

Mary Renner Beech Named Vice President and General Manager of Toys & Social Expressions For Disney Consumer Products

Mary Renner Beech Named Vice President and General Manager of Toys & Social Expressions For Disney Consumer Products

Disney Consumer Products (DCP) today announced the appointment of Mary Renner Beech as vice president and general manager of toys and social expressions, North America for Disney Consumer Products. In her new role effective June 27, Beech will be responsible for driving the U.S. business beyond its performance goals. She will oversee product category management, marketing and licensee relationships, and will collaborate with the creative team to deliver compelling and innovative Disney-branded products to market. Beech will also partner closely with DCP’s internal retail and franchise teams and across divisions at The Walt Disney Company to drive the region’s franchise and business growth. She will report to Vince Klaseus, senior vice president of Global Toys, Disney Consumer Products and is based in Glendale, Calif.

“Mary’s proven skill at building franchises plus her many years of close partnership with the toys and stationery groups and DCP’s other businesses have prepared her well for this challenging new assignment,” said Klaseus.

Beech has made a significant impact in her 11 years at DCP and brings to her new role a deep understanding of The Walt Disney Company’s franchises, business models, and internal partners and resources. For the past three years, she has overseen the long-term franchise strategy and planning and marketing communications for Disney’s core entertainment franchises, as well as animated, Pixar and live action theatrical releases. She has been a key player in the development of DCP’s strategies for fiscal year 2012 and beyond, which she will now help execute in toys and social expressions. In previous roles, Beech led marketing and product strategy for the animated film slate and development of the girls franchise portfolio, where she helped grow the Disney Princess franchise from $300 million in global retail sales to the thriving, multi-billion dollar lifestyle brand it is today.

“I am excited to embark on this new assignment and, with the support of a dynamic team of industry experts, infuse further creativity, innovation and market growth into DCP’s already thriving toys and social expressions business,” commented Beech.

Beech joined Disney as part of DCP’s film entertainment marketing group in 2000. Prior to joining Disney, Beech spent over six years in marketing roles with Polo Ralph Lauren and Ann Taylor. She is a graduate of Wake Forest University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Disney Helps Celebrate Performing Arts Center Groundbreaking

Disney Helps Celebrate Performing Arts Center Groundbreaking

To commemorate the start of construction on the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, Walt Disney World President Meg Crofton joined community leaders during a ceremonial groundbreaking in downtown Orlando.

Disney previously pledged $12.5 million to sponsor the largest of the center’s halls and has made Disney executives from across the company available to provide expertise.

“The new performing arts center will enable our community to host world-class cultural offerings, support and educate our community’s artists, audiences and students and contribute to Central Florida’s overall quality of life,” said Crofton. “From the beginning, our goal has been to nurture a vibrant arts community and we’re pleased to have been a part of this important milestone event.”

Donations from Walt Disney World Resort and others in the community made the free, community-focused event possible. Entertainment was provided by internationally renowned singer and actor Davis Gaines, the Orlando Ballet and the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, among others.

The 2,700-seat theater sponsored by Disney is to be inspired by classic outdoor theaters, with renderings that show the blue side walls and ceiling simulating an evening sky. The major surfaces are expected to be adorned with cherry wood and woven copper. The design also references some of the most successful theaters by offering exceptional sightlines with tiered seating close to the stage. Amplified sound will be loud but clear with strong bass support, superb sound imaging and clearly understandable reinforcement for actors and singers.

When it is complete, the Dr. Phillips Center will include two grand performance theaters, a community theater, an outdoor plaza and performance space, rehearsal rooms, administrative offices and educational programming space. Opening the fall of 2014, its construction is expected to create 3,000 jobs for the greater Orlando region.

First look: Adventureland Suite at the Disneyland Hotel

Adventureland Suite at the Disneyland Hotel

We’ve already shared looks inside the Fairy Tale, Big Thunder, Mickey Mouse Penthouse and Pirates of the Caribbean suites at the Disneyland Hotel, and today we’re finishing with the bang of a blunderbuss – the Adventureland Suite.

Adventureland Suite at the Disneyland Hotel

This suite takes guests on the most luxurious safari ever. With the feel of an explorers’ camp from the 1930s, the Adventureland Suite features a master bedroom fashioned as a safari lodge with a claw-foot bathtub in the living area. In the master bathroom lies a grotto with a foot spa, steam and rain showers, and lighting and sound effects that make you feel like you’re in a rain forest or a savanna. Younger explorers will love the second bedroom, which makes you feel like you’re sleeping in a safari tent.

Adventureland Suite at the Disneyland Hotel

The Asian/Indian-inspired main living area includes a wet bar, a flat-screen TV hidden behind artwork above the faux fireplace, and a “hidden” closet (hint: try the bookcase). When you’re in this suite, it even sounds like you’re in the jungle: the doorbell “rings” with tiki gods playing drums, and – for the first time in a Disneyland Hotel suite – themed background music plays three separate tracks inspired by the Jungle Cruise, Disney adventure-themed movies and world music first created for Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

At the end of the Games, the charity with the most points given by the Disney.com online community will receive $100K.

In addition to playing online games for charity, kids can view exclusive video content and participate in a number of fun online activities. Kids can create online art on the Friends for Change Group Wall at Disney.com/Create, where they can see the transformative power of friends everywhere pitching in to make a difference. The Disney.com/ProjectGreen site will also feature exclusive videos from the “Disney Friends for Change Games,” including a special wrap-up show hosted by Tiffany Thornton and Jason Earles.
