4 Things Any Business Can Learn From Disney

A lot of businesses think that Disney take advantage of their customers and this is the reason why they are so successful. Whilst some aspects of the way the company operates are bad (name a company that isn’t) they are a very successful company with millions of people that are loyal to them. Here are just some of the things that any company can learn from Disney.

Disney Cater For The Masses

It is very difficult for a company to cater for everyone and Disney does this very, very well. If you think that your company is going to do this with ease then think again. Disney has been in operation since the 20s and has grown in popularity every year since then. Other big companies such as Coca-Cola have done the same and in order to cater for the masses you need to be doing a lot of research into what your customers want to see from you.

They Adapt For New Audiences

Something else that Disney are incredibly good at is adapting for new audiences and they don’t just do this with their movies but with the ventures that they go out and create. Recent gains include the Marvel comic company which means they have essentially gained access to millions more people to market their products to. They also have over 10 theme parks based around the world and produce movies not only for kids and the whole family but for adults too!

They Never Forget Their Oldest Customers

The great thing about Disney is that they never forget the customers that have been with them for years and this comes in the form of re-releases, restorations and in the fact that a lot of the older characters live on in the theme parks.

In terms of implementing this for your business you should remember those smaller customers that were with you from the start and gave you the business to begin with. When you turn into the giant company you always dreamed of make sure you keep in touch with the faithful people that always loved you!

Have A Mascot

Although your business isn’t a cartoon company and won’t have a chance to create someone has fantastic as Mickey Mouse, there is no reason why you cannot create a mascot. Many businesses out there have mascots and these work to attract the attention of people that are brought in by visual aid!

These are just a few things that any company can learn from Disney!

Ryan has all kinds of Disney memorabilia on his virtual offices desk and has learned a lot about business from his favorite company in the world! For more check out Ryan’s blog here.

Department of Transportation Hosts Research Clinic to Test ‘Connected Vehicle Technology’ at Disney World

Department of Transportation Hosts Research Clinic to Test ‘Connected Vehicle Technology’ at Disney World

U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood last week received a firsthand look at “connected vehicle” technologies that have the potential to improve safety and help drivers avert crashes as part of a research clinic hosted by the Department of Transportation at Walt Disney World® SPEEDWAY.

“Thanks to the efforts of automakers and the safety community traffic fatalities have reached historic lows. Despite these great strides though, more than 32,000 people are still killed on our nation’s roads every year. That’s why we must remain vigilant in our effort to improve safety,” said Secretary LaHood. “This research should bring us a step closer to what could be the next major safety breakthrough.”

Analyses by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show connected vehicle technology could potentially impact approximately 80 percent of vehicle crash types involving non-impaired drivers. Specifically, NHTSA research shows these technologies could help prevent a majority of kinds of crashes that typically occur in the real world such as crashes at intersections or while switching lanes.

The four-day “Driver Acceptance Clinic” at Walt Disney World® SPEEDWAY in Orlando is part of a six-month program that includes similar research clinics across the nation. The driver clinics are the first phase of a two-part research program jointly developed by the Department’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Research and Innovative Technology Administration (RITA) in coordination with other U.S. Department of Transportation agencies.

The driver clinics are designed to evaluate cars equipped with “vehicle-to-vehicle” communications systems in a controlled environment where researchers can observe the drivers’ responses. The technologies being tested include in-car collision warnings, “do not pass” alerts, warnings that a vehicle ahead has stopped suddenly, and other similar safety messages.

“With its potential to save lives and prevent injuries, connected vehicle technology could be a real game-changer for vehicle safety,” said NHTSA Administrator David Strickland. “These clinics are vital to understanding how drivers will respond to the technology and how connected vehicles communicate in real world scenarios.”

RITA Acting Administrator Greg Winfree said, “The past several decades of auto safety have been dedicated to survivingcrashes, but the future will be about avoiding crashes. That is what connected vehicles are all about. Moreover, the entire Safety Pilot is about connecting the best resources from public and private sectors to achieve the most effective results possible.”

Driver clinics have already been held in Michigan and Minnesota, and future clinics are planned for Virginia, California, and Texas and are expected to conclude by January 2012. Following the clinic program, the Department of Transportation will launch the second part of the Safety Pilot with a model deployment that will use approximately 3,000 vehicles to further test connected vehicle technology in a year-long effort from summer 2012 through summer 2013. The model deployment will operate on roads in Ann Arbor, Michigan and test a limited number of vehicle-to-infrastructure applications in addition to continuing the research on vehicle-to-vehicle communication systems.

Eight major automotive manufacturers are providing support for the Department’s research through partnering agreements: Ford Motor Company, General Motors LLC., Honda R&D Americas, Inc., Hyundai-Kia America Technical Center, Inc., Mercedes-Benz Research and Development North America, Inc., Nissan Technical Center North America, Inc., Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc. and Volkswagen Group of America.

The information collected from both phases of the Safety Pilot will be used by NHTSA to determine by 2013 whether to proceed with additional vehicle-to-vehicle communication activities, including possible future rulemakings.

“FastPass for Celebrate a Dream Come True” parade

"FastPass for Celebrate a Dream Come True" parade

The popular afternoon parade, “Celebrate a Dream Come True” at the Magic Kingdom is going to be testing out a new FastPass system from October 23rd through November 12th.

The testing process will begin with cast members handing out FastPasses in the Town Square area for the afternoon parade. No word yet on how many will be distributed or where exactly the FastPass will locate you. Rumor has it the parade viewing areas will be near the castle hub.

This won’t restrict non-FastPass holders from viewing the parade, but may effect where you are allowed to view the parade from.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out and if it will be put into place after the trial period.

What do you think about this?

Woman's body found in cast parking lot at Disney World

Orange County Sheriff’s officials say a woman has been found dead in a cast member parking lot at Walt Disney World.

Orlando’s 13 News reports that a security guard called 911 early Tuesday morning to report finding the body.

The television station reports that sheriff’s officials say the death was not a homicide. But no further details were immediately available.

Deputies say the parking lot where the body was found is near a construction site and several buildings. It is in an area of the property not directly connected to the theme parks or hotels.

What a Day for Donald at the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic at Walt Disney World Resort

Luke Donald Wins the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Classic at Walt Disney World Resort

There were a lot of marquee golfers battling to win the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic tournament at Walt Disney World Resort on Sunday. But given that the tournament was at Disney, it was fitting that a guy named Donald – i.e. Luke Donald – walked away with the trophy. And of course the other Donald – i.e. Donald Duck – was there to congratulate him. They “quacked’’ each other up.

Seriously, Luke Donald put on quite a show. Starting the day five strokes off the lead, he sank six straight birdies on the final nine holes of Disney’s Magnolia course Sunday to win the tournament by two strokes and secure the PGA Tour’s year-end money title. With his $2 million lead on the European Tour money list, he likely will become the first player to capture the PGA Tour and European money titles in the same year.

If you missed the finish Sunday, don’t worry. You have plenty of time to plan for next year’s tournament (Nov. 5-11) which will again be the final event of the 2012 PGA Tour season.
