Kids Create Their Own Pigeon-Inspired Stories in Disney Publishing Release of “Don’t Let the Pigeon Run This App!”

Kids Create Their Own Pigeon-Inspired Stories in Disney Publishing Release of “Don’t Let the Pigeon Run This App!”

Disney Publishing Worldwide will launch today the first original app by three-time Caldecott Honor winner Mo Willems. “Don’t Let the Pigeon Run this App!”is now available from the App Store on the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. The unique, interactive app features author Mo Willems as the voice of the curious and determined Pigeon and invites children everywhere to create one-of-a-kind Pigeon stories using their imaginations as they add their own voices and drawings to the fully animated app.

The long list of things the Pigeon can’t do—drive the bus, stay up late, eat a hot dog—grows and grows, as children decide what the hilarious Pigeon will try to do next. Willems played a lead role in the design, writing, voicing, and illustrating of the app. The author gives voice to the Pigeon and, in the app’s drawing tutorial, Willems guides children in the exploration and illustration of their own pigeons. With kids in creative control, each time they play the app brings new surprises and an enriching reading and playtime experience.

“Interactivity has always been a key to the Pigeon books,” said Willems. “‘Don’t Let the Pigeon Run This App!’ takes that interactivity to the point where the child is not only the audience, but the author as well. I can’t wait to see what awesome ideas kids will come up with. They’re going to put the Pigeon through the wringer!”

Features of “Don’t Let the Pigeon Run This App!” include:

  • A fully animated storytelling experience inspired by the award-winning children’s book series;
  • A starring appearance by the Pigeon, voiced by Mo!;
  • Three unique storytelling modes so that readers can enjoy limitless one-of-a-kind Pigeon stories;
  • Read-along option;
  • Ability to personalize the content with readers own voice;
  • Shake the Pigeon to start the stories;
  • A Pigeon drawing tutorial with Mo;
  • “Favorite stories” section where readers can create their own personal libraries.

“Don’t Let the Pigeon Run This App!” is available for $6.99 from the App Store on the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch or at www.itunes.com/appstore.

Electrical Water Pageant Celebrates 40 Years at Walt Disney World Resort

“Water will also serve as a ‘stage’ in Walt Disney World. Lakeside and on the lagoon, fireworks shows and water spectacles will be presented – even including special ‘parades.’”

These words printed in the 1970 “Walt Disney World Preview” book certainly ring true when you think of the Electrical Water Pageant, which launched in 1971 and marks 40 years of shows today, Oct. 26.

Electrical Water Pageant at Walt Disney World Resort

When Walt Disney World Resort opened in 1971, a series of grand-opening ceremonies took place: One for Magic Kingdom Park, one for each resort (then the Contemporary Resort Hotel and Polynesian Village) and one for the Polynesian Luau show. The Electrical Water Pageant, originally called “Electrical Pageant,” debuted as a part of these various grand opening celebrations.

Much like today, the first pageant consisted of 14 barges that pull 25-foot-tall floats across Seven Seas Lagoon. Each float features illuminated characters, such as a whale, turtle, sea horse and a multi-float sea serpent. During the second half of the show, these floats switch to display illuminated American flags and stars.

Not only did the pageant wow guests, making it a regular sight on Seven Seas Lagoon, but it also paved the way for another innovative guest draw – the Main Street Electrical Parade at Disneyland in 1972, which was inspired by the success of The Electrical Water Pageant. The pageant also was first to feature the track “Baroque Hoedown,” which later became the famous soundtrack of the Main Street Electrical Parade. (After “Baroque Hoedown” moved to the parade, “Water Music” – a compilation of music by Georg Freidrich Handel, and several other tracks, took its place in the pageant).

Today the show can be seen by guests (weather permitting) at resorts along the Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake: Disney’s Polynesian Resort, Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and Disney’s Wilderness Lodge.

All entertainment is subject to change without notice.

Disney to launch new channel ABC Spark in Canada

Disney to launch new channel ABC Spark in Canada

Disney/ABC Television Group (DATG) and Corus Entertainment today announced that they have entered into an expansive licensing agreement to launch ABC Spark, a dedicated millennial-focused channel and multi-platform offering, in Canada in Spring 2012. The channel will build on the foundation that DATG has created with ABC Family, its incredibly successful millennial brand in the U.S. This deal marks the first time in history that these two companies have entered into this type of licensing agreement for a 24-hour channel.

ABC Spark will be a destination for Canada’s young adult millennial viewers, telling stories that matter most to this audience while utilizing the technology millennials rely on to connect to their world in a corresponding multi-platform offering. The agreement was brokered by Disney-ABC Domestic Television with Corus Entertainment.

“We are very pleased to work with Corus in bringing ABC Family’s well-known, popular programming into the Canadian marketplace,” commented Janice Marinelli, president, Disney-ABC Domestic Television.

“We are thrilled to partner with Disney/ABC Television Group and to announce the launch of ABC Spark in Canada, a network with values and attributes that align with our own,” said Doug Murphy, president, Corus Television. “Bridging the gap between our kids and women’s networks, ABC Spark will be a national service with compelling programming directed at the fast-expanding millennial generation.”

Disney Food Confessions – Apple Carmel Crunch

Disney Food Confessions - Apple Carmel Crunch

Where is it? Seasons Food Court in Epcot’s Land Pavilion

What is it? That is hard to answer. It had a cheesecake type consistency but much lighter and fluffier. The Carmel and Apple flavors were so delicious with a nice crunch on the outside this was one of my favorite treats on our last trip.

Why you want it? Not as heavy as a cheese cake but full of flavor. This little goodie is good anytime of day.
