Here are the PDF’s of the 2012 Disney Dining Plans.

Know before you go:

  • Gratuity: In past years gratuity was included in the Disney Dining Plan; this is not so anymore. It’s not a recent change but for folks who don’t travel to WDW annually, that fact might have slipped by unnoticed. You can tip your server in cash, credit card, or on your Key to the World Card (which you can link to a credit card at check-in). There are exceptions to the gratuity policy: gratuities ARE included at dinner shows, private in-room dining and Cinderella’s Royal Table.
  • Your receipt: You will receive a receipt with every food and beverage purchase and your receipt will tell you everything you need to know about your dining plan. The top center of your receipt will tell you how many credits remain for adults and children. Below that, the first line item will tell you the type of entitlement used (quick service, table service, snack, etc.). Below the entitlement used you will see the number of entitlements used and at the very bottom will be a “guest i.d. purchase” line item-these are the charges that aren’t included in your dining plan (alcohol, gratuity, etc.)
  • Kids dining plan: Children under age 3 are not eligible for the dining plan, this doesn’t mean you have to starve them! Tiny tots have two options: Share off another family members plate, or pay out of pocket for their meal. Children ages 3-9 must order off the child’s menu when one is available (and trust me, the kids menus are always available!)
  • Availability: Unlike “other” Orlando area attractions offer meal tickets and plans but none are as all inclusive as the Disney Dining Plan. Virtually every food location in all of the parks and resorts on Disney property are included in the dining plan. Dining reservations are STRONGLY recommended and you will be able to make your Advanced Dining Reservations 180-days prior to your check-in date. To see where you should (or shouldn’t) be eating visit our friends at Disney Food Report for food and restaurant reviews and more.

HGTV Seeks One Lucky Disney-Loving Family for Fantasy-Filled, Over-the-Top “My Yard Goes Disney” Makeover

HGTV Seeks One Lucky Disney-Loving Family for Fantasy-Filled, Over-the-Top "My Yard Goes Disney" Makeover

If your family dreams of a backyard makeover that is worthy of a Disney theme park and even bigger and better than last year’s My Yard Goes Disney creations, HGTV is looking for you.

Between now and January 30, 2012, HGTV wants you to submit your compelling story, photos and video in a nationwide search for the perfect family to help create a fantasy-filled backyard inspired by Disney Parks. One lucky family will be selected to transform their outdoor living space into their own year-round recreational resort.

Last season, My Yard Goes Disney host Brandon Johnson helped homeowners create a Pirates of the Caribbean(R)-inspired makeover complete with a pirate ship, water cannons and a water battle station; a Disney’s Animal Kingdom(R) park-themed design with thatched-roof tree houses, a replica of a safari Jeep and a handcrafted fire pit. Other backyards featured a Tinkerbell-inspired oversized teapot playhouse, a Mickey Mouse-shaped swimming pool and a 200-foot long Disney Magic Kingdom park-inspired train.

“In 2011, we saw spectacular fantasy makeovers that only the Disney Parks team could imagine and HGTV could deliver – transforming everyday backyards into ultimate family hang-out spots,” said Kathleen Finch, general manager, HGTV. “With this new opportunity, we’re searching for one lucky family ready to make their space an ultimate Disney Parks-inspired dream come true.”

If you think you have a compelling story and want to be the family bringing Disney Parks to your backyard, visit http://hgtv.com/MyYardGoesDisney before January 30, 2012 to find out how to submit your story, photos and/or a video to apply for your chance to receive one of this year’s amazing outdoor spaces based upon favorite Disney Parks inspirations.

The family selected for the makeover will be featured in the season finale of My Yard Goes Disney as one of the 11 Disney Parks-inspired makeovers in 2012. In addition, HGTV will take the magical inspiration inside as well in their special, My House Goes Disney, airing in March 2012.

The ever popular Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend presented by CIGNA returns Jan. 5-8, 2012 with two new features – a relay option and a new medal.

Runners in the 26.2 mile Disney Marathon can now join a buddy for the Disney Marathon Relay.  Unlike other marathon relays, runners at Disney will each run 13.1 miles through Walt Disney World’s four theme parks.  The first runner will travel through Epcot and Magic Kingdom, while the second runner goes through Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studios before finishing at Epcot.  Both runners receive official half-marathon times as well as a combined team time, plus the new Chip and Dale medal – the first new character medal for Disney Marathon Weekend since the Goofy medal was introduced in 2006.  The Disney Marathon Relay will be run simultaneously with the Disney Marathon and share the same course.

The Walt Disney World Half Marathon also will offer a new feature – a special edition Donald Duck medal to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the race.

The Disney Marathon Weekend will include a variety of events, including the Disney Family 5k Fun Run (Jan. 6), Disney Kid’s Races (Jan. 6-7), and Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge (Jan. 7-8).  There’s also Disney’s Health & Fitness Expo (Jan. 5-8) at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, which will feature the latest in running merchandise, equipment and products, plus health and fitness seminars by leading authorities such as renowned marathon trainer Jeff Galloway, the official training consultant for runDisney. Whatever Happened to – Emmet Otter’s Jug Band Christmas

Whatever Happened to – Emmet Otter’s Jug Band Christmas

I grew up watching the Muppets. I loved Sesame Street with Kermit and Big Bird to the Muppet Show that would come on tv on the weekends. If I wasn’t watching cartoons I would be watching something with the Muppets in it.

With the flood of Christmas shows that came out (nowhere near what the kids have today) one movie stood out for me growing up and that was Emmet Otter’s Jug Band Christmas. For me it is not really Christmas till I can watch this classic tale.

This movie stars a little otter named Emmet who grows up in a poor family consisting of him and his Ma. His Ma is a widow and works her fingers to the bone to provide for herself and Emmet. It truly is a sad tale and reminds me of my mother, as a single mom she would work all the time to provide for me and my sister.

Here is the official Synopsis:

The story tells of Emmet Otter and his Ma, a widow who scrapes by on the small amount of money she gets from doing laundry and that Emmet gets from doing odd jobs around their home of Frogtown Hollow, despite both of them often being cheated, notably by Old Lady Possum and Gretchen Fox, the mayor’s wife. As Christmas approaches, they hear of a talent contest in the nearby town of Waterville, and separately decide to enter to buy nice presents for each other — a nice guitar for Emmet, or a piano for Ma. However, in a twist on The Gift of the Magi, they must sacrifice each other’s livelihood for the talent contest — Ma hocks Emmet’s tools for dress fabric, while Emmet turns Ma’s washtub into a washtub bass for a jug band.

Emmet and Ma each do an excellent job (despite Emmet’s jug band having to frantically change songs after another contestant performs their song, Bar-b-que), only to be defeated at the last minute by a rock and roll band called The Nightmare (most likely due to the nasty Gretchen Fox on the judging committee), which comprises a hoodlum gang from the fairly distant town of River Bottom. However, as Ma and Emmet’s jug band sing a song together on the way home (more accurately, both of their talent show songs together after Ma realized they fit together), they are overheard by Doc Bullfrog, owner of a local restaurant, who hires them to sing for his customers, thus granting them the bigger prize.

Whatever Happened to – Emmet Otter’s Jug Band Christmas

It is somewhat of a dark tale but has many lighter moments. For me one of the parts I remember the most was the Riverbottom Nightmare Band! They really rawk even by today’s standards. For something fun head over to youtube and punch that in and see some of the tribute bands.

I think this year I am going to introduce this to my little one and see if she loves it as much as her daddy does. It’s a shame that Disney pulled out Kermit the Frog narrations when they bought out the Muppets. I hope they give this movie a facelift like they do with so many other movies. I have one of the original copies from 1977 with Kermit added he does a great job as narrator.

It makes you really appreciate what you have and shows you that not everyone is as fortunate as we are. The Mother and Son relationship really pulls on my heart strings and makes me get a little something in my eyes a few times thoughout the film.

I give this movie a 10 out of 10 and one of just a few movies I like around Christmas.

So if you remember this film let me know what you thought in the comment section below. You can find this movie on DVD but I won’t image you will be seeing it on tv again.

Top 10 Holiday Things at Disney World

Top 10 Holiday Things at Disney World

I know this is a broad title that encompass so many different things. But, I have come up with my top ten things that I cannot miss when at Disney during the holiday season. I love Disney at Christmas time. There are little things that they do to make the season so magical and big things that you would never want to miss. Here are my top ten favorites.

  1. The Animal Kingdom Lodge staff parade. Last year I was staying at the AKL in mid December. I was in the lobby waiting for the rest of my party when I started to hear Christmas songs. The staff dressed in Santa hats and armed with tambourines marched through the lobby singing and creating general holiday cheer. The lobby here is pretty special too!
  2. Cinderella Castle. There is no time of year when the castle looks quite so spectacular. The lights look like magical icicles on the castle and it is simply breathtaking.
  3. Christmas Pins. I am a total pin nerd and I admit it! I love the holiday pins, but I especially love the Christmas ones.
  4. The horse drawn carriages at Fort Wilderness. Ok, so it’s not dashing through the snow. But the horses are in their Christmas best and the drivers are dressed the part as well. You don’t have to go for a ride to enjoy them either. Just sit on the porch of the trails end and watch them as they come by.  Also make sure not to miss the camper lights at Fort Wilderness. We always try to walk around Fort Wilderness for a little entertainment. The campers often set up their own lights and decorations and they are very fun to see!
  5. Hot Cocoa on Main Street USA. Yup, Its Florida and it can be quite warm, but nothing says Christmas like some delicious hot cocoa and I just love sipping it as I walk down Main St at night!
  6. The Gingerbread Carousel. Take a moment to tour the lobby of the Beach Club and you will find a giant gingerbread carousel. This carousel is nothing short of amazing. It is not only beautiful but looks totally delicious as well! Also the Giant Gingerbread house at the Grand Floridian is something you won’t want to miss!
  7. Holidays Around the World at Epcot. I love touring all the countries, but during the holiday season it is even more fun! There are fantastic story tellers, entertainers, and music at every country. It is a great way to learn while having fun!
  8. Mickey’s Jingle Jungle Parade at Animal Kingdom. This is my favorite holiday parade. I am not really sure why, but I love the lively music and creative floats. Plus I like Mickey and Minnie’s safari outfits best of all!
  9. The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This light show is phenomenal and really a can’t miss show if you are lucky enough to be in town during the holidays!
  10. Candlelight Processional in Epcot. Where else can you see a moving presentation of the traditional Christmas story told by celebrity narrators who are joined by a mass choir and 50-piece orchestra.

What are some of your favorite Holiday Events and Activities to do at Walt Disney World? Let us know in the comment box below.

Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town

Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town

Walt Disney World Resort guests share their Christmas wishes with Santa Claus, who’s accompanied by his cheery wife Mrs. Claus, in The American Adventure pavilion at Epcot during the Holidays around the World celebration.

Through Dec. 30, international storytellers, including Père Noël in France and the Monkey King in China, share tales and traditions from their homeland throughout World Showcase.

ABC Family’s Jane By Design Style Challenge – Task 2

ABC Family's Jane By Design Style Challenge - Task 2

As you guys may have noticed, I have been participating in the Jane By Design Style Challenge put on by ABC Family to help spread the word about their new show premiering January 3rd at 9/8c.  The good news is I have made it to the next round “Barley” – Grays words, not mine!  Each week on Tuesday and Friday we receive a new task!  Here was this past Friday’s Task #2!

“Find the plain white t-shirt in your trunk.  Using items around your house or your office, create a design on the t-shirt inspired by your fashion icon.  Then, put the shirt on your dress form and post a photo of it to your blog, along with an entry that talks about how your design was inspired by your fashion icon.  Ask your readers to tell you about their style icons here and mention the name of your blog. “

Since I am primarily a Disney blogger, I find inspiration in all things Disney from fashion ideas to vacation fun!  One thing I realized when thinking about this challenge is that a lot of Disney female characters wear aprons and I have a lot of vintage aprons laying around!  I think it makes becoming a Princess or a fictional character more obtainable and likeable.  Here is an example:

ABC Family's Jane By Design Style Challenge - Task 2

Besides Disney Princesses I love all things vintage! Part of the challenge was to gather up a few things from your home to use on this project. So I grabbed a vintage apron, buttons, fabric markers, scissors and my sewing machine and went to work!

ABC Family's Jane By Design Style Challenge - Task 2Instead of placing the apron around the waist I decided to move it up on the body giving it an updated look and creating a baby-doll style shirt.  Then I cut some of the bottom of the t shirt, where you cannot see, and used that to create a small pocket on on the shirt.  Picking up from colors and patterns on the apron I embellished the pocket with some buttons to create a flower design and some blues and greens giving the pocket a more defined shape!  Also on the white part of the shirt I sprayed it heavily with glitter, because all princesses need a touch of glitter!  The glitter takes the plain white fabric to a whole new level giving it a slightly grey tone!  I wanted to make sure this new apron baby-doll t -shirt had a modern feel to it so along with the glitter I cut the sleeves and tied them up.  The ripped up and distressed look is very popular right now with celebrities and I have been seeing it more and more in the stores!  It also takes the shape of the plain t- shirt and makes it more feminine in the arms.  I added a touch of tie dye green and blue to the ties to give it a pop of color!  Here are a few more pictures of my new shirt up close!

ABC Family's Jane By Design Style Challenge - Task 2  ABC Family's Jane By Design Style Challenge - Task 2

ABC Family's Jane By Design Style Challenge - Task 2

I had a lot of fun creating this project for Task #2, I actually felt a little bit like Cinderella, who also wears an apron, with all of the cutting and sewing! I even had a little helper like Cinderella did, although mine was human and 4 years old!  I would love for you to help me out as well! Just head over to the Jane By Design facebook wall right now, and tell them that Chip and Co. sent you and where you get your fashion inspiration from! That’s it, pretty easy – so go do it now!
