Star Wars Weekends Returns to the Walt Disney World Galaxy in May 2012

Star Wars Weekends Returns to the Walt Disney World Galaxy in May 2012

Star Wars Weekends returns to the Walt Disney World Resort during May and June 2012, as Disney’s Hollywood Studios celebrates the Star Wars film saga and the hit animated television series Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

The annual special event, included in regular theme park admission, will be held every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from May 18-June 10, 2012.

The power of the Force and magic of Disney combine as plenty of out-of-this-world characters – including Wookiees, droids, Ewoks, bounty hunters and Jedi – roam the streets of Disney’s Hollywood Studios for meet-and-greet opportunities with guests.

The centerpiece of the celebration is the spectacular 3-D attraction, “Star Tours – The Adventures Continue.” The attraction, which opened last spring at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, uses eye-popping 3-D, a dramatic musical score and motion simulator-based technology to immerse guests in the Star Wars galaxy like never before.

“Jedi Training Academy,” one of the interactive entertainment experiences at the theme park, allows young guests to learn from a Jedi Master before testing their newly acquired skills in a battle with Darth Vader.

Also featured at Star Wars Weekends: the chance for fans to purchase one-of-a-kind Star Wars memorabilia, Star Wars games, plus there’s special Star Wars parades and motorcades, star conversations and autograph sessions with Star Wars actors and creative talent (celebrity lineup will be announced at a later date). The ever-popular “Hyperspace Hoopla” ends each Star Wars Weekends day with a show filled with comedy, dancing, high-energy music and many of the famed Star Wars characters.

For more information and future updates, guests may go online to disneyworld.com/starwarsweekends or starwars.com.

Disney World Quick Tips – Don’t waste money on a buffet

Disney World Quick Tips - Don't waste money on a buffet

I know many people love Buffets due to the variety of food available and of course the “eat as much as you want” philosophy but before you think this is about lowering your portion sizes or another health food article let me assure you it is not.

Our last trip to Disney World I planned out several nice buffets for my family. Cape May CafeOHana (hybrid buffet), Tusker House, etc. I was finding out that even with all that yummy food my little one was to busy watching all the stuff going on or bouncing off the wall from all the excitement that she wasn’t eating much. Same thing with our infant, there were always people walking around, events going on that neither one of them wanted to eat.

We have decided since we goto Disney World so often that it is better for us to get a Tables in Wonderland Card instead of using the Disney Dining Plan. If you want to read more check out this article Tables in Wonderland vs. Disney Dining Plan. So when we were going to the buffets we were getting socked with a $10 – $15 meal for our 5 year old and she was maybe eating a few bites. What a waste!

After a few experiences like that I went online to the Disney World Dining Reservation page and cancelled the rest of the buffet meals and opted for places where you can order off a menu. Places like Whispering Canyon Cafe, Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater, and Via Napoli. The food is just as good, cheaper, and sometimes portable. If we knew we were going back to the room or if the food was portable like the picture above we took what she didn’t eat with us.

Quick Tip – Pack Ziplock bags to put left over or extra food in to munch on later.

While it is highly unlikely you can avoid every buffet scheduling a few per visit will help you not feel so guilty if you have a picky eater like we do. For a full restaurant listing check out our Disney World Dining Guide Section and Resort Dining.

10 Signs You May Have a Disney Addiction.

10 Signs You May Have a Disney Addiction.

Behold:  The Mickey Croc, winterized version.  You might just own a pair.

Have you ever walked in on your friends speaking in hushed whispers only to have them suddenly become quiet when they notice you’re in the room?  Are you the subject of concerned glances?  Is it possible you may be a Disney Addict?

Here are a few signs:

10) During Thanksgiving dinner with your extended family you debated the merits of the 90 day vs. the 180 day Disney dining reservation policy . . . with yourself.

9) You were once banned for 30 days from a well-known Disney website for your participation in a heated debate that got ugly. The subject: Pool hopping.

8) You have been known to go to the local Disney store for a Disney fix.

7)  You know that a stroller swap has nothing to do with upgrading your beat-up Graco with that nice Bugaboo left parked and unattended in the stroller parking area outside of Mickey’s Philharmagic.

8)  When you say you’re going to France, people are actually shocked that you mean the actual country, not the pavilion.

5) You know what Mousefest was.

4) You have rationalized buying a Disney timeshare to your spouse as “an investment in our future vacations.”

3)  You have been known to wear Mickey Crocs. Without shame. And sometimes, with socks.

2) You see  hidden Mickey everywhere, even outside of Disney. Because they are everywhere!!

1) You can translate the following sentence: Is it possible to park at the CR when you have an ADR at CG and then attend MVMCP at the MK or do I have to park at the TTC and take the RM?

Yes to three or less–Your addiction is under control. Though you know more about Disney than the average person, it’s a good bet that Sunday breakfast at your house doesn’t included Mickey Waffles. Yet.

Yes to four to seven–You are entering borderline fanatic territory. You go to Disney so often that Disney will never give you a pin code for a reduced room rate because they know you’re coming back anyway. You own the highly coveted Mickey Waffle iron which you use to recreate the Chef Mickey’s experience at  home by inviting the unruly neighbor kids over for breakfast. Your children think it’s possible to walk from Canada to Morocco in a matter of minutes, stopping along the way for a pretzel in Germany.

Yes to more than seven–If loving Disney World is wrong, you don’t wanna be right–and you’re not. You recently bought DVC by cashing in your retirement account. At least one of your children is named Ariel. You know that “Mongello” is both a greeting and something you say when you can’t get a reservation at Le Cellier even though you called at 180-days out.

What to do with a Test Track Junkie During the Rehab

What to do with a Test Track Junkie During the Rehab

As most Walt Disney World fans know, the popular Test Track attraction at Epcot is going to be down for refurbishment from April 2012 to sometime in the Fall of 2012.

So, what are you supposed to do with the Test Track junkie in your party with the attraction down for the busy and crowded summer season?

Most of the people I have spoken to agree that Test Track’s biggest fans are usually under the age of 12. Not that adults don’t enjoy it, but younger kids seem to relish the attraction. Obviously, you need to prepare your Test Track junkie that the attraction is going to be closed. After the initial wave of disappointment is over, you can start planning your trip.

Other Epcot attractions to try:

The Sum of All Thrills in Innoventions East. This is a state of the art motion-simulator ride where you can design your own track layout. It seats two people per ride. You are enclosed in a large hood and cannot touch your face or upper body during the ride. You must be 48 inches tall to ride and 54 inches tall to invert (an average 8 year old should be able to ride but not do inversions).

Soarin’ in the Land Pavilion. This is a gate buster and will typically have a large wait with Test Track open. This is the first attraction you should hit for a FastPass at rope drop.

Mission: Space. This attraction is often critiqued, but it still offers plenty of thrills, especially for the Green Team which offers less spinning. You have to be 44 inches tall to ride.

Maelstom. Located in the Norway Pavilion, this five minute boat ride has a few surprises and drops, but nothing that requires a height restriction.

Epcot does offer other amazing attractions, but nothing with the same intensity and speed as Test Track.

Looking for other experiences at Epcot? Try some of these.

Behind the Seeds Tour at the Land Pavilion. This 45 minute walking tour takes you behind the scenes to see the future of food production. There is a charge for the tour.

Reflections of China and O Canada Circle Vision films. Both of these films surround you and offer amazing shots and scenes. People bypass them because they are just films, but they are spectacular and can offer multiple viewings to see it all.

Captain EO. Take a trip back to the future and enjoy this retro presentation of this 3d film. It is Michael Jackson at his height and a great way to relive some of the 1980s at EPCOT Center.

Kim Possible World Showcase Adventure. Perfect for any age, you can work your way around World Showcase looking for clues with the special Kimmunicator.

Kidcot Fun Stops. Situated in each World Showcase Pavilion, kids are able to meet cast members from their respective countries and make a souvenir craft.

‘Real Steel’ Blu-ray Review

'Real Steel' Blu-ray Review

A lot of people like to believe this is just a rock ’em sock ’em robots movie, but that couldn’t be farther from the case. ‘Real Steel’ is actually about as close to a new ‘Rocky’ film you may ever find yourself getting to. It’s a fun, exciting, and for some, inspirational movie about how far you one person will go to follow their dreams. Hugh Jackman plays Charlie Kenton, a former box in the year 2020 who is down on his luck and is trying to make a living boxing with robots. But when he finds out that his ex girlfriend has passed away, he’s brought to a hearing to decide the fate of where his estranged son, Max (Dakota Goyo), will go. None of this was what Charlie had planned for, but Max may be exactly what he needed to turn his life around.  There are ally fights, boxing matches, and plenty of funny and heartwarming moments that will leave fans cheering during this movie. This was one of my favorite films of last year, and Disney has put together a pretty stellar package here for it. Hit the jump for my full review.

Film Synopsis

On vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the world’s biggest Muppet fan, his brother Gary (Jason Segel) and Gary’s girlfriend, Mary (Amy Adams), from Smalltown, USA, discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze Muppet Studios and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets’ former stomping grounds. To stage a telethon and raise the $10 million needed to save the studio, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit reunite the Muppets, who have allgone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino tribute band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate.

Top 5 Hollywood Studios Hidden Details

Top 5 Hollywood Studios Hidden Details

Anyone who has been to Walt Disney World knows that Disney specializes in the details; and I’m always on the look-out for new details or hidden Disney magic that isn’t so easy to find! Today I’m sharing with you my favorite Hollywood Studios hidden details that I have discovered on my visits to the park. Enjoy!

5. Crates-Located near Min and Bill’s Dockside Diner, just off of Hollywood Boulevard, you will find a stack of crates. If you take a closer look at the addresses stamped on the crates, you will find they belong to some famous old Hollywood characters such as Rick Blaine from Casablanca and Scarlett O’Hara from the Gone with the Wind and more!

4. Route 66 Sign & Luggage-On Sunset Boulevard, across from Beauty and the Beast – Live on Stage and in front of a storefront, there is a Route 66 sign with several old suitcases stacked at the base. This homage to “the Main Street of America” is a great photo spot that many guests rush right by. Be sure to check it out!

3. Rex-If you were a fan of the former Star Tours attraction at Hollywood Studios, you may find a familiar friend in the queue. Remember Rex? Your rookie pilot who whisked you through lightspeed, meteors, and the attack on the Death Star? He still calls Star Tours home, and you can now see him, wearing a defective sticker (haha) as you wait to ride this park’s new Star Tours – The Adventures Continue 3-D version!

2. Fire Hydrant-On the Streets of America, particularly during the steamy summer months, one of the street’s fire hydrants is sometimes opened so kids (and big kids too) can run through the cool spray!

1. Singing in the Rain Umbrella-Also located on the Streets of America, across from Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show, look for an umbrella against a light post. When you grab hold of the handle, suddenly your Gene Kelly out of that famous scene from Singin’ in the Rain!
