Disney Junior Orders 3rd Season of Jake and the Neverland Pirates

Disney Junior Orders 3rd Season of Jake and the Neverland Pirates

Yo Ho Ho! Disney Junior has ordered a third season of “Jake and the Never Land Pirates,” bringing the episode tally to 100 thus far, it was announced today by Nancy Kanter, Senior Vice President, Original Programming and General Manager, Disney Junior Worldwide. The series revolves leader Jake and pals Izzy and Cubby – and follows their Never Land adventures as they work to outwit the one and only Captain Hook and Mister Smee, from Disney’s classic “Peter Pan.” The stories emphasize teamwork and features original pirate rock music performed by Sharky and Bones of The Never Land Pirate Band.

Kanter said, “The series is connecting with kids on every level and brings them closer to characters they’re already familiar with and introduces them to new, original characters they have made their friends.” She continued, “The storytelling is adventurous and heartfelt and embeds the kind of learning that we know is important to parents. We’re pleased to be extending viewers’ experience with the stories, allowing them to play the ‘Jake and the Never Land Pirates’ experience.”

The memorable Disney stories and characters, both classic and contemporary, have connected strongly with kids age 2-7 and their parents, and that connection has also led to the creation of brand extensions in other Disney businesses. “Jake and the Never Land Pirates” is a prominent part of the popular Disney Junior Live on Stage! attraction at Disney Parks & Resorts, and is featured in a Disney Junior magazine from Disney Publishing, in a soundtrack and DVD from Disney Studios and a Disney Consumer Products line set to debut in stores nationwide in spring 2012. Included are multiple product categories: party supplies, apparel (sleepwear, daywear), room décor and plush. An exciting toy line releasing in June and showcased this week at American International Toy Fair, will feature plush, role play and accessories from Just Play and action-oriented play sets and figures from Fisher-Price, including Jake’s Pirate Ship, designed after Bucky, Jake’s ship in the series.

Unplanned Surprises Add Extra Magic to Your Disney Trip

Unplanned Surprises Add Extra Magic to Your Disney Trip

I love planning for my Disney vacations. The planning is, as we all know, a big part of the excitement we all feel when waiting for our magical Disney trip to begin. Don’t you just love it when, in the middle of planning your daily activities, you find out that there is going to be a special celebration you will be able to participate in that you didn’t even know was going to happen during your trip? Well, that is how I felt when I found out that my daughter, our friends and I will be able to attend New Orleans Bayou Bash at Disneyland next week.

Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday in February and March (as well as Feb. 20 & 21), New Orleans Square comes alive for a one-of-a-kind Mardi Gras party. I am so excited that we will be able to attend on February 24. According to Disney, New Orleans Square and parts of the Rivers of America will be “filled with vibrant excitement, jazzy music, street performers and the sensational food of New Orleans — all presented with warm Southern hospitality.” That is right up my alley.

The party will include Princess Tiana, Louis, Naveen, Mickey and Minnie, and lots of other Disney Characters donning their most festive Mardi Gras attire. There will be lots of music, dancing, partying and special Cajun food – Yum!  The best news for me is that there will be special Mardi Gras Cupcakes (my favorite) as well as specialty beignets.

I am from Galveston, Texas and Mardi Gras began on Galveston Island way back in 1867. In 1985, the tradition was revived and very year my hubby and I attend the first weekend of Mardi Gras festivities, which took place this past weekend. This is usually a great time to party and celebrate life, and to see old friends from high school that we usually only see once a year. Unfortunately, I was sick in bed so we were unable to attend last weekend. Celebrating Mardi Gras in Disneyland is sure to be an awesome time. I hope to take lots of pictures and celebrate big! I just wish my hubby would be able to attend with me! I’ll be sure to have a cupcake mint julep in his honor!

Best Rides & Attractions to Nurse or Bottle Feed your Little Ones at Disney World

I know what your thinking this is a funny subject coming from a guy. But I am no stranger to poopy diapers or feeding little ones. While visiting the parks with little ones can be challenging there are some little tricks my wife and I have learned to help make our vacations enjoyable for our little ones when they were still nursing or on the bottle.

Its funny our oldest daughter was only breast fed for 4 months before going to a bottle and our youngest who is now 1 will only take the breast and refuses a bottle. So we have experience with both at the Disney parks.

I will break this up by park to better assist you.

Magic Kingdom

Epcot

Hollywood Studios

Animal Kingdom

Finally the Monorail, buses, and Friendship Boats are good too!

If I missed anything let me know but all of the rides above come from our experiences at the parks. Individual results may very depending on the baby, crowd levels, temperature, etc.

St. Patrick’s Day Festivities Invite ‘Wearin’ of the Green’ at Downtown Disney Pleasure Island March 15-17

St. Patrick’s Day Festivities Invite ‘Wearin’ of the Green’ at Downtown Disney Pleasure Island March 15-17

Mark your calendars for Authentic Irish food, music and dance performances set the scene for a three-day St. Patrick’s Day celebration and the “wearin’ of the green” March 15-17 in and around the Raglan Road Irish Pub & Restaurant at Downtown Disney Pleasure Island.

At Raglan Road, a true Irish pub with Dublin roots, entertainment revs up the evenings of March 15 and 16 with house band Creel on the restaurant’s main stage while Murphy’s Law and The Irish Rogues perform on the Raglan Road patio. When St. Patrick’s Day arrives March 17, non-stop entertainment kicks off at noon with Creel, The Raglan Road Dancers, more outdoor entertainment and a special appearance by U2 tribute band Elevation.

The weekend of festivities spans Pleasure Island with live Pleasure Island stage performances by The Wyndbreakers — Florida’s own “neo-traditional, pub-rockin’, guitar pickin’ Celtic” musicians; Celtic Wave, with its own traditional Irish flair; and Celtic Nova, putting  its own twist on popular lrish tunes.  Family-fun activities will include face painting and stilt walkers, and St. Patrick’s Day souvenirs will be in abundance.

More St. Patrick’s Day fun is in store:

  • Authentic Irish cuisine is featured March 15 at 1 p.m. as Raglan Road celebrity Irish chef Kevin Dundon creates a four-course kickoff luncheon and culinary demonstration in the restaurant’s Grand Dining Room.  (Call 407-938-0300) or visit www.raglanroad.com for reservations).
  • March 15 and 16, beginning at 6 p.m.  Irish bands Murphy’s Law, known for modern Irish music, and The Irish Rogues, popular for ballads and other Irish folk tunes, perform on the Raglan Road patio.  At 7 p.m., house band Creel rocks the audience on the restaurant’s main stage – expect surprise guest appearances.  Guests can order favorites like fish ‘n chips and Shepherd’s pie from the restaurant’s lunch or dinner menus.
  • March 17, St. Patrick’s Day, doors open at 11 a.m.  House band Creel performs on the main stage at noon and at various times throughout the day.  Entertainment on the patio kicks off at 1 p.m. with Irish dancing from The Raglan Road Dancers and performers from the Watters School of Irish Dancing, established in Central Florida more than a decade ago to train young dancers for championship performances.  U2 tribute band Elevation is expected to bring down the house with renditions of U2′s greatest hits.  Guests can order from Raglan Road’s dinner menu throughout the day, which includes the authentic Irish dish of St. Patrick’s Day — loin of bacon and cabbage. A $10 cover charge applies on March 17 for guests 18 and older.

Entertainment subject to change.

Saoirse Ronan Set to Star in Disney’s ‘Order of Seven’

Saoirse Ronan Set to Star in Disney's 'Order of Seven'

Saoirse Ronan (The Lovely Bones, Hanna) is in final negotions to star in Disney’s “Order of Seven”. The film was originally conceived as a Kung Fu retelling of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs but has recently moved away from that concept.

According to Variety, Ronan would play Olivia Sinclair who is a British expat living in 19th century Hong Kong who seeks protection from a group of former warriors turned outlaws.  Once an evil empress returns, Sinclair helps the warriors find themselves and reclaim their destinies.  Disney studio executives are currently in talks with well-known action stars in Russia, China, and Japan to both find a global group of heroes and boost international interest.

I think the move away from the Snow White was a good plan considering there are two films coming out this year that are based on the classic tale, “Mirror, Mirror” and “Snow White and the Huntsman”. Ronan has also proved that she can hold her own in an action based movie with her performance in “Hanna”.

We will bring you more details as this project develops.

Top 5 Apps for your Disneyland Vacation

Top 5 Apps for your Disneyland Vacation

Every family traveling to the magical world of Disneyland eventually comes to the same question: How am I going to fit it everything I want to do/see in just three days? Smartphones have made it remarkably easier to accomplish this task, acting as pocket tour guides with tips, reviews, and behind-the-scenes info. Browse this list of 5 apps and select the one that’s the best fit for you. You’ll love actually enjoying all the park has to offer rather than spending your day staring at maps, schedules, and brochures.

  1. Mousewait–  FREE

This free app is packed with all the features most will need. You can access wait times for all the rides in Disneyland as well as California Adventure, browse a food directory that has menus, maps and reviews, and get detailed weather reports. You can also create your own Disneyland to-do list including all the attractions, restaurants, and events you’d like to attend. You can even chat with others in the park to keep in the know of what’s going on around you. The app will send you push notifications to remind you when to pick up your fast passes or when you have a dinner reservation scheduled.

  1. Wishing Stars – $4.99

This actually isn’t a planning app, but it’s such a fun opportunity it’s worth mentioning. Wishing Stars is basically a series of treasure hunts within the Disneyland park. You can choose from varying levels of difficulty to accommodate children, adults, or even Disney fanatics. The app will give you a clue, and then use your GPS location to determine if you’ve found the correct answer.

  1. Disneyland iGuide – $2.99

This guide comes in handy starting from the second you park your car. There’s a spot for you to record where your car is parked, so you won’t have to wander around late at night on the verge of a breakdown. It also features a customizable panoramic map that allows you to zoom to three times magnification. The GPS walker follows you at all times so you can quickly spot where you are. The times your Fastpasses must be picked up or returned will be displayed on your map as well for your convenience. There’s a feature to find all dining options that are under the $10 pricepoint, or even switch your map to a restaurant-only view. It also has the capability for you to plan your own itineraries and checklists.

  1. Disneyland Planner – $2.99

Similar to previous apps, this one shares a lot of the same features. There’s a spot to record you parking location, maps of the park, customizable itineraries, and wait times for all the attractions. Unique features are a trip countdown that can be used in the days leading up to your vacation, a gift-list creator, and user ratings for all attractions, dining spots, and shopping locations. It’s also the only app that provides photos and details for events in the park.

  1. Hidden Mickeys – $7.99

Disney Imagineers having been cleverly sticking silhouettes of Mickey Mouse’s head throughout the park for decades. They’re in top secret locations that only true Disney fans can spot! Occasionally the hidden Mickey comes in other forms- for example a picture of Mickey Mouse can be spotted on Splash Mountain, and a stuffed Mickey is stashed in a secret location on Star Tours. This app provides detailed clues to help you find the hidden Mickey’s all over the park. Discovering their secret locations adds another element to your vacation, and kids and adults alike will enjoy scanning for hidden images while in lines and on rides. Keep your eyes peeled, you never know where one could pop up!

New ‘Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom Game Coming Feb 22nd to Walt Disney World

New ‘Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom Game Coming Feb 22nd to Walt Disney World

When the new “Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom” game debuts at Magic Kingdom on February 22, it will be up to guests to discover and defeat the Disney villains who are wreaking havoc behind the scenes at the Walt Disney World Resort theme park.

In this role-playing game, guests become apprentice sorcerers and embark on a challenge to stop these animated villains from stealing one of the four shattered pieces of Merlin’s powerful crystal ball.  Armed with spells in the form of special cards, guests follow magic symbols that lead them to different villain hideouts in Adventureland, Fantasyland, Frontierland, Liberty Square, and Main Street, U.S.A.  Once there, apprentices use magic keys to access the villain’s lair, and “spell” cards to halt the evildoers in their tracks.

Seventy different spell cards are part of this trading card game, and guests will receive five complimentary cards every day they play.  Each of the cards features a different Disney character that offers a spell unique to his or her personality. Individually created by Disney artists and trading card game experts, these beautiful cards will become a new Disney collectible and trading opportunity.

According to Jonathan Ackley, Project Producer & Creative Director, Walt Disney Imagineering, one of the most exciting aspects of Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom is how guests become active players in the game, interacting with Disney characters at an entirely new level.

“Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom gives our guests a whole new way to become the hero of the Disney story, taking Disney innovation to a new level,” he said. “It’s a great game of discovery and excitement that plays off our wonderful theme park and incredible family of Disney animated characters.”

Imagineers spent more than four years creating and perfecting this unique experience, which can be played in 15- to 20-minute segments throughout guests’ visits to the Magic kingdom, or continuously for up to three to four hours. More than 95 minutes of original animation was created for Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom – the equivalent of a full-length animated film.

While trading card games are popular with about 60 million people in the U.S., this is the first time players can experience the challenge at a Disney theme park. Guests of all ages will love the storytelling, the engagement with Disney characters and the discovery of hidden details at the Magic Kingdom.

Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom is included in the price of theme park admission.

Where To Find The Best Character Meals At The Disney World Resorts

Where To Find The Best Character Meals At The Disney World Resorts
Posing with Pluto at Chef Mickey's

When it comes to choosing where to eat at Walt Disney World, for many the answer is obvious – Character Meals! Dining with characters can be fun, and not to mention convenient – where else can you enjoy yummy food while getting to meet multiple characters?

Below are some “must do” character meals, the top 3 in popularity, each for their own unique reasons:

  • Chef Mickey’s – Head on over to The Contemporary Resort for breakfast or dinner, where you can enjoy American fare (like mickey waffles, pastries, eggs and more at breakfast and an ice cream sundae bar and kid friendly eats at dinner!) in a relaxed buffet-style setting. Personally, I really like the food here, but for many, it’s not the food they are coming for, but the characters – you get to meet the “Fab Five” all in one place – Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, and Pluto – which is why Chef Mickey’s is the the Best Character Meal for Character Meet and Greets, it’s the only meal in all of WDW that has these 5 characters in one place (oh and they are dressed up in chef outfits, which is cute!)
  • Ohana (breakfast) – This restaurant does a character meal only at breakfast time where you can hang out with Lilo and Stitch who are joined by their pals Mickey and Pluto. This meal is served family style (meaning they being the food right to your table, and you can have as much as you want!) in the gorgeous tropical themed Polynesian Resort. This meal wins the honor of the Character Meal with the Best Food – the Warm breakfast breads are to die for, and all the eggs/meat/potatoes come piping hot and fresh to the table, and the fruit is fresh and perfectly ripe every time
  • 1900 Park Fare – This restaurant wins the award for the Character Meal with the Best Location – you can get breakfast or dinner at this spot located in The Grand Floridian Resort, which is by far the most grand (as the name implies!) and fancy resort on WDW property. Join Mary Poppins, Alice in Wonderland, and the Mad Hatter for a “Supercalifragilistic Breakfast” buffet including the standard Disney Breakfast fare of eggs, omelets, assorted meats/pastries/Mickey Waffles, and at dinner time Cinderella’s Happily Ever After Dinner is hosted by Cinderella, Prince Charming, Lady Tremaine, and Anastasia and Drisella (a must-do fo any Cinderella fans like myself!). Dinner is also a buffet and includes carved meats and assorted salads/vegetables/sides and a yummy dessert assortment. I would highly recommend taking a pre or post meal stroll around the hotel grounds, checking out the beach and wedding areas especially – the views of the Magic Kingdom are amazing, and it doesn’t get much more beautiful than this!

No matter where you go to eat at WDW, you will get amazing food, polite and prompt service, and overall will have a great experience. If you are looking to make your dining experience even more special, consider dining with some Characters at the above restaurants – because Delicious Food + Fun Characters will be sure to equal a great meal for you an your family!

How to tour the Parks – Splitting up Epcot

How to tour the Parks - Splitting up Epcot

Many people try to cram as many things in Epcot into one day. Back in the 80’s I used to do the same thing. I have been known do to all 4 parks in one day on many occasions. As I got older (and wiser) I realized Epcot is not a one day park. It is meant to be enjoyed slowly and broken up into several days.

On our past trip I was able to work up a nice 3 day Touring Plan for Epcot where you can really see EVERYTHING! It can be stripped down into 2 days but unless your only at Disney World for a few days try my way (its perfect for parents of infants and those under 5). Also please note we like to get to the parks early to avoid the crowds. If you come in after 10 you are probably going to run into lines. Finally we leave after lunch for naps so these are mainly for the morning hours and work great if you like Park Hopping, if you come in later you’re gonna hit lines and may slow you down some.

Day 1

  • Arrive at Epcot when it opens, after the little Park Opening Show head straight to The Land Pavilion and grab a Fast Pass and ride Soarin. If you have a little one don’t forget to do Parent Swap that way your little one can ride it with both parents.
  • After you have done Soarin now would be a good time for breakfast (if you have already eaten skip down to the next step) We love Sunshine Seasons for Breakfast! Good, fresh food, great for people watching, and you can even get sushi for breakfast (don’t ask)
  • Once you have consumed your meal or after you have ridden Soarin we like to take a nice little boat ride on Living with the Land. For me this has to be one of my favorite rides at Epcot. I studied Forestry and Horticulture in school so the greenhouses really fascinate me. The Behind the Seeds tour is something different to try.
  • About the time you are done with Living with the Land your Fast Pass should be ready to go. If not go watch the Lion King’s The Circle of Life show. Most times the wait is longer than the show.
  • At this point you have finished The Land Pavilion and you are ready to move on some place else. We like to stay on the Epcot’s Future World (West) area. It should be around 11am and the World Showcase is opening which should ease the lines a little bit. Head over and ride The Seas with Nemo and Friends and Turtle Talk with Crush then shoot over to the Imagination Pavilion for Journey into Imagination with Figment. We wait on Captain EO and do it on Day 2.
  • Once you are done on the West Side you can head over and try some free beverages at Club Cool and play around in Innoventions.
  • It should be around 1pm so you can do lunch, head back to your room, or use your Lines App and Park Hop.

Day 2

  • Arrive at Epcot when it opens again but this time head to Test Track and the Epcot’s Future World (East) side. Be sure to grab a Fast Pass before you jump on Test Track. Do the parent swap thing (if you got them) and have fun looking at all the cars outside of the ride. Last time we were able to ride Test Track 3 times in a 20 minute window and ended up giving our Fast Passes to a random family who were floored.
  • Next ride Mission: Space, Universe of Energy: Ellen’s Energy Adventure and Spaceship Earth. I have always felt the East Side needs to have one more good ride to use up the morning.
  • Since the baby care center is on this side we usually pop in for a little while before we head off to ride Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros. You could easily head over to Captain EO after Spaceship Earth if you wanted. I would avoid Soarin as that area is going to very busy at this point. Club Cool again is always nice or you can visit the other side of Innoventions.
  • It should be around 1pm so you can do lunch, head back to your room, or use your Lines App and Park Hop. This is where you can make it a 2 day or 3 day Touring Plan so if you’re not coming back head out to the World Showcase and walk around. Epcot is our favorite park so we visit here 5-6 times a trip. Usually 3 mornings and 2 evenings.

Day 3

  • You have 2 methods you can do here. You can arrive at the Main Entrance and do Soarin & Test Track before the World Showcase Opens or you can arrive at 11am – 12pm and come in the back entrance. I have found that if Hollywood Studios has Magic Hours in the AM we will go there ride some rides and then try to make it to Epcot right at 11am via the Friendship Boats.
  • Once in the park head towards France and work your way counter-clockwise. Pick any showcase to stop and have lunch. Ride the rides and take in all the shows. There is no rush and be sure to explore EVERYWHERE. Kidcot Stations are perfect for little ones as it gives them a great FREE souvenir!
  • If your into alcohol you can also try to Drink Around the World ShowcaseLa Cava de Tequila is by far my favorite stop and make for the perfect walking drinks. Try the Cucumber!
  • By the time you have worked your way around the World Showcase it should be dinner time. Again Epcot has some of the best Dining Options in all of Walt Disney World. If you planned it right you could get a great seat for Illuminations. We love the view from Tokyo Dining!

So there you have it you have just tackled Epcot the Chip and Company way. This is my tried and true method for getting the most out of Epcot. Individual results may very and please keep this article to yourself. I don’t want everyone doing it 🙂
