Marvel Entertainment and NECA Draft “All-Winners Squad”

Marvel Entertainment and NECA Draft “All-Winners Squad”

With the surge in popularity among Marvel Super Heroes this summer, a group of lesser-known heroes, villains (and some all-out odd balls) petitioned Marvel Entertainment to grant them a team of their own.  A common name they could share and make legendary.  A battle cry for evil to fear, and a group name that would out live them all.

The “All-Winners Squad” is an ensemble of Marvel cult favorites. Together these previously overlooked characters are destined to make an impact in their own irreverent way. At long last, the All-Winners Squad will break free from comic book pages and obscure corners of the Internet, spreading their unbridled awesomeness to fans everywhere.

The National Entertainment Collectibles Association, Inc. (NECA), in partnership with Marvel Consumer Products, will bring their notoriously hip creative to a full line of offbeat All-Winners Squad merchandise launching this fall.  Toys, apparel and collectibles will celebrate the solidarity of these newly revived characters.  The line casts the spotlight on each member of the All-Winners Squad, giving each a chance to shine individually as well as with their squad comrades.

Members of the All-Winners Squad were busy preparing for their first official press conference, with the exception of Doop, who was reachable, but unable to communicate in any intelligible mode.  Squirrel Girl, however, was tracked down in Central Park.  When approached, she was hopeful and insightful.

She commented, “Speaking to squirrels may not be the flashiest power, but it’s a valuable skill, and we all make a difference. Maybe now people will finally appreciate our talents and see how special we really are!”

She then climbed back up her tree.

Other members of the All-Winners-Squad will address the public during an exclusive San Diego Comic Con press conference scheduled for Friday, July 13th at 5:30pm.

Strategic Parade Viewing Spots in the Magic Kingdom

Strategic Parade Viewing Spots in the Magic Kingdom

Main Street Electrical Parade, Celebrate a Dream Come True Parade, Wishes, Move It!  Shake It! Celebrate It! Street Party, and Dream Along With Mickey are some of the best ways to work Disney magic into your vacation.  All of these entertainment options happen at the Magic Kingdom, starting along Main Street USA.  It’s good to get a seat for these well in advance to ensure you have a good viewing spot.  But in my opinion, you should be strategic in what spot you want.

While Main Street USA can afford a great magical view with some added ambiance of the Cinderella’s Castle, I want to share with you things to keep in mind and my favorite areas in the Magic Kingdom to view the Main Street Electrical Parade, Celebrate a Dream Come True Parade, and Wishes.

1.  Liberty Square – Right across from the flagpole in Liberty Square, there is a small food stand with fresh fruits, etc.  It is near the entrance of the Liberty Square Riverboat.  This is an excellent spot to catch the MSEP or Celebrate a Dream Come True Parade.  Why?  Because after you catch the parades, you are able to head over to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Splash Mountain and ride these with little to no wait.  If you time it right, you might even catch Wishes while on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.  From personal experience, this is super cool!

Richard Petty Driving Experience Announces “Junior Ride-Alongs” at Walt Disney World Speedway

Richard Petty Driving Experience Announces "Junior Ride-Alongs" at Walt Disney World Speedway

Richard Petty Driving Experience announced today that it will now offer “Junior Ride-Alongs” at its Walt Disney World Speedway location in Orlando, FL.

RPDE’s “Junior Ride-Alongs” program will provide children, under the age of 14 who are at least 48 inches in height, the opportunity to experience real-life racing excitement while they ride shotgun with a professional driving instructor for three thrilling laps in a specially equipped two-seat NASCAR race car.

“Junior Ride-Alongs” are possible as a result of RPDE’s partnership with The Joie of Seating, a premier fabricator of custom-fitted aluminum racing seats owned and operated by two-time NASCAR Nationwide series champion Randy LaJoie. The North Carolina-based company built custom racing seats for this program, specifically designed to ensure the safety and security of smaller bodies. These full containment racing seats feature built-in shoulder and head protection and a five-point safety harness that is the same design used by NASCAR drivers.

“For 10 years we’ve specialized in designing custom racing seats that provide the safest in-car experience,” says LaJoie, “Our extensive experience in the industry makes us confident your child will enjoy a safe and fun ride-along with RPDE.”

Located just outside the Magic Kingdom property, RPDE’s Disney location has been known as a high-speed attraction for adults for more than a decade, providing thousands of moms and dads the thrill of a lifetime. Now with “Junior Ride-Alongs” available just in time for summer, NASCAR racing can become a family affair at Disney.

“We’re thrilled to be able to make RPDE even more family friendly and can’t wait to see the ear-to-ear smiles on these kid’s faces after experiencing the excitement of NASCAR first-hand.” says Bill Scott, General Manager of Richard Petty Driving Experience at Walt Disney World® Speedway.

“Junior Ride-Alongs” with Richard Petty Driving Experience at Walt Disney World® Speedway are $59. No reservations are required.

Walt Disney World Celebrates America this 4th of July

4th of July Walt Disney World Cinderella Castle

Fireworks light the sky above Walt Disney World Resort most nights throughout the year. This week, however, extra spectacular, super fantasmical pyrotechnic shows will dazzle the darkness with a pixie dusted patriotic display at Magic Kingdom, a rockin’n’rollin’ extravaganza at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and a classic sky show at Epcot infused with an Independence Day finale.

As Chip informed you recently, you can celebrate America’s birthday with a Disney bang!

  • Disney’s Celebrate America! A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky” will light the skies at 9:00 p.m. July 3 and July 4 at Magic Kingdom Park.
  • Rockin’ 4th of July Celebration” rocks and rolls at 9:45 p.m. July 4, immediately following the 9:00 p.m. Fantasmic! at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

In addition, Voices of Liberty will perform a 4th of July Concert at the American Adventure pavilion where guests may meet Benjamin Franklin, Betsy Ross, and Disney characters adorned in patriotic dress.

During this holiday week, you’ll find special treats like these red, white, and blue chocolate dipped apples and layered cupcakes in eateries around the parks. Even the Mickey Rice Krispie treats have been given some holiday flair! (Photos courtesy Disney Food Blog.)

If you’re at the parks this week, keep in mind they will be super crowded as this is one of the Resort’s busiest times of the year. Be patient with those around you and expect long waits for attractions and transportation. Disney’s Characters in Flight Closed till further notice

Disney's Characters in Flight Closed till further notice

According to several news outlets Disney has suspended all operations of it’s Characters in Flight attraction at Downtown Disney due to an accident occurring at the Ocean Park operation in Hong Kong.

Here is more information from The Standard:

Eight people faced terror when a helium balloon at Ocean Park sprang a leak and plunged about 60 meters to earth.

The worst accident since the park opened at Aberdeen 35 years ago left five visitors injured or in shock, though none were hurt seriously. Four had been in the balloon and a fifth on the ground.

Seven park visitors and the operator had been in the SkyStar ride when the balloon failed at 3.45pm yesterday.

The problem was a rupture in the gas-filled bag. Park officials refused to provide details, but some witnesses said the gash was more than three meters wide.

Ocean Park deputy chief executive Matthew Li Sing-chung said the balloon landed on a pedestrian walkway instead of its pad because of the leakage and wind. Other people talked of it hitting a tree and landing near a fountain.

It is unclear if the Characters in Flight ride will reopen at Downtown Disney and Disney has since removed information on the attraction from their site.

Events and Attractions coming to Disney World Fall 2012

Events and Attractions coming to Disney World Fall 2012

As the weather cools down this fall, entertainment at Walt Disney World Resort heats up with new experiences offering guests a chance to strike up fun at a new bowling and entertainment complex, immerse themselves in the world of Jack Sparrow, become automotive designers, see zebras up close on safari, and much more.

Here’s a look at what’s in store…

The age-old image of bowling is about to change with the new opening of Splitsville, America’s Bowling Alley, at Downtown Disney West Side this fall.

Splitsville’s 50,000 square feet, two-story location will be unlike traditional bowling alleys — with 30 lanes separated into several clusters to create a one-of-a-kind perspective immersed in hip and retro elements. The Downtown Disney location also will boast billiard tables, live entertainment, a dramatic balcony and ample outdoor seating.

Dining Out At Disney World vs. Bringing Your Own Food

Dining Out At Disney World vs. Bringing Your Own Food

If you are trying to save money when visiting WDW, there is always the option of bringing food into the park. Some people like to bring in their entire meal, others snacks and some like to enjoy everything that the park has to offer. So let’s compare the options and see what you gain or lose by doing either bringing food into the park or eating out.

One easy item you can bring into the parks to save money is water. It will save you save you money if you drink a lot, which is important to do especially in the hot summer months. You can either drink it room temperature or put it in a cooler to keep it cold, the choice is yours.

Another option is snacks into the park. For those people who brink snacks into the park like cereal bars, trail mix, crackers and whole fruit in ziplock bags, this can be a time saver from waiting in line to grab a snack and it can save you some money. It’s also easy to do and you don’t have to worry about a cooler. For those who like to bring fresh cut fruit and vegetables (because you can’t bring a knife into the park) and cheese in a small cooler, you’ll also be saving time and money. However, you will need to carry a small cooler to keep them from spoiling. Food that needs to be kept cold starts to spoil just 2 hours after not being refrigerated and could lead to food poisoning, the last thing you want on your vacation.

Dinner and a Fireworks Show at Walt Disney World

Dinner and a Fireworks Show at Walt Disney World

Two of my family’s favorite things about a Walt Disney World vacation are the wide variety of great food choices and the fact that every night can end with a party, complete with fireworks. While we really do love standing with the crowd while everyone enjoys Wishes at the Magic Kingdom or IllumiNations at Epcot, sometimes it’s fun to be able to enjoy the show in a little more comfortable surroundings and off your feet. Having a plate of some wonderful Disney fare in front of you at the same time can make for a truly terrific experience. So, here are a few places where you can enjoy dinner and a show, Disney pyrotechnics style.

‘Ohana at the Polynesian Resort – this family-style restaurant features flame-grilled meats at dinnertime, and a perfect venue for catching the Wishes fireworks show over the Magic Kingdom‘s Cinderella Castle. When the fireworks are about to start, the dining room’s lights are dimmed and the show’s music is piped in to complete the experience. For a nine o’clock Wishes show, we like to ask for eight o’clock dinner reservations and request a table by a window. You won’t always get your window seat, but you will enjoy the show in any case. ‘Ohana is part of the Disney Dining Plan and requires one table service credit, fireworks included!
