Epcot's New Test Track Images and Details

Chevrolet, Disney Inspire Design Innovation with Test Track – Two iconic brands collaborate to deliver interactive, personalized experience.

Chevrolet designers and Walt Disney Imagineers have joined forces to give Walt Disney World Resort guests a deep look inside a professional design studio creating a first-of-its-kind multi-sensory virtual experience in automotive design.

Chevrolet and Disney tapped their best design talent with expertise ranging from industrial and automotive design to architecture and animation. The design collaboration began 18 months ago with a few guiding principles – create an experience that is personal, future-focused and optimistic.

The two teams met regularly throughout the development process in both GM’s Design studios in Warren, Mich., and at Test Track in Epcot in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The collaboration allowed for the greatest level of innovation yet ensured the values of both brands were accurately represented in the new attraction, while allowing both teams to learn from each other’s expertise.

“At Chevrolet, the diversity of talent on our team allows us to consistently produce sophisticated, refined and detailed design – but we don’t typically design through the eyes of a 12-year-old,” said Jeff Mylenek, GM Design manager, Global Exhibit and Merchandising Design. “Working with Walt Disney Imagineering, we were inspired to see our brand story from a more youthful perspective and really opened the parameters on how to approach this design challenge.”

The result is a unique experience that gives an authentic, inside-the-studio look at the actual automotive design process, while empowering guests themselves to create their own designs, possibly inspiring the next generation of automotive designers.

The Disney/ABC Television Group Raises More Than $16.8 Million During Its Day Of Giving

The Disney/ABC Television Group today announced that the national “Day of Giving,” held on Monday, November 5, which seamlessly integrated outreach messaging into programming across News, Daytime, Primetime, Late Night, Syndication, Cable, Online and Stores, raised more than $16.8 million dollars for the American Red Cross to aide those impacted by the devastation of Hurricane Sandy.

This unprecedented response joins The Walt Disney Company’s existing relief and rebuilding efforts announced by Robert A. Iger, chairman and CEO, The Walt Disney Company, which include a $2 million cash commitment to those severely impacted by Hurricane Sandy. One million dollars will be donated to the American Red Cross for immediate, critical assistance, and another $1 million will be designated for organizations working on rebuilding efforts. In addition, employee eligible donations to organizations involved in disaster relief will be matched, dollar for dollar, by Disney Employee Matching Gifts: A Program of The Walt Disney Company Foundation.

Commenting on the announcement, Anne Sweeney, co-chair of Disney Media Networks and president, Disney/ABC Television Group, said “Our ‘Day of Giving’ was an enormous success, raising more than $16.8 million dollars to help those impacted by Hurricane Sandy. From ‘Good Morning America,’ ‘The View’ and our Owned TV Stations to ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live,’ ABC Family, and Radio Disney, the Disney/ABC TV Group came together in an unprecedented fashion to address the storm’s devastation, and I could not be more proud.

But we didn’t achieve this alone…The Walt Disney Company led the way with its initial multi-million dollar relief and rebuilding donation, and other divisions of our Company including Disney.com, Consumer Products and ESPN, joined in our day-long outreach. Working together, we achieved a response to these efforts that was so massive our colleagues with Parks & Resorts were asked to donate their time to help handle the dramatic increase in call volume. This success would not have been possible without everyone’s support and enthusiasm.”

Emergency Rescue for Pregnant Woman Off the Disney’s Magic Whilst at Sea

Emergency Rescue for Pregnant Woman Off the Disney's Magic Whilst at Sea

Can you imagine sailing on a Disney cruise ship or any cruise ship for that matter, while pregnant? One of the reasons there is a rule that women that are more than 24 weeks pregnant are not allowed to sail is because when pregnancy issues arise to get them off the ship is not that easy. An at sea rescue occurred by the Coast Guard and a passenger of the Disney Magic cruise ship that tested this theory, though how far along in the pregnancy the passenger was is not known.

A 31-year old woman that was sailing on the Disney Magic was airlifted early Saturday from the ship and taken to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. The Disney Magic was 180 miles off the coast of Galveston when the rescue occurred, the U.S. Coast Guard reported.

The woman’s identity was not released and her current condition is not known. The emergency rescue was called in by the captain of the Disney Magic late Friday night. Disney thanked the Coast Guard for their assistance and declined to comment any further “out of a respect for the passenger’s privacy.”

Muppet News Flash – Muppets working out details for sequel movie

Couple of developments coming out of Muppet world about the upcoming sequel that is still unnamed which is due to start filming in January. First, they have confirmed that they will be filming some around London. Beginning in January 2013 and April 2013 they will be doing location work in London for this film that is rumored to set place in Europe only.

Another little tidbit is that Bret McKenzie, who won an Oscar for his song “Man or Muppet” that was in the last Muppet film titled “The Muppets” is returning to write new songs for the film.

Regarding some of the actors, Jason Segel is saying he won’t be in this film, though there is talk of a cameo appearance, for the co-writer and executive producer of “The Muppets” film. On that note the sequel is set to introduce new Muppets and Oscar Winner, Christopher Waltz is playing the villain as an Interpol Agent in the new film.

The previous film “The Muppets” was received with huge accolades and so even though the sequel has some big shoes to fill it seems the plans are in place for another Muppets hit. Who wants to see the new Muppets movie? Who is your favorite Muppet? I like Beaker myself!

Is Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort Right for You?

Is Disney's Grand Floridian Resort Right for You?

Is Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort the right place to take up residence while visiting Walt Disney World ?  I say absolutely if……

  • You enjoy convenience to all the parks and several popular restaurants.  Since the Grand Floridian is a “monorail resort”, you can monorail to Magic Kingdom and EPCOT in a very easy, very timely fashion.  When our family stayed at the Grand Floridian, we found the monorail to be the best transportation option if we needed to get to the Magic Kingdom.  Magic Kingdom is the first stop from the Grand Floridian on the monorail.  Ohana, located at Disney’s Polynesian Resort and Chef Mickey’s, located at Disney’s Contemporary Resort are also very short monorail rides from the Grand.
  • You want magical, enjoyable character meal options at your resort.  At the Grand Floridian, you can enjoy breakfast, dinner or tea time at 1900 Park Fare.  This is located in the main building, just to the left as you enter from the front main entrance.  The Supercalifragilistic Breakfast features Mary Poppins, Alice in Wonderland, the Mad Hatter, and other well known characters who mingle from table to table while you enjoy a buffet style meal.  For dinner, your princess and little prince charming can enjoy visiting with Cinderella, Prince Charming, and their friends.  For an afternoon break from the parks, enjoy tea time with Alice and other Wonderland friends.  Your children can decorate cupcakes, do crafts, and enjoy some “tea” (aka apple juice).

Top 5 Uses for Carabiners at Disney World

I don’t know about you, but I’ve found myself at Disney World, wishing I had one of those hiking clip things! I know you are probably thinking, “what, were you planning on doing? Scaling Cinderella Castle?” My answer is short and sweet…nope!  I actually have found this multitasker to be an essential when I am in the park (and we are talking no climbing here!).  In fact, I’ll go ahead and admit that while I like taking nature walks and “hiking”, I know so little about it, that I mistakenly have termed these popular cousins of the carabiner: hiking clip things, hooks, and my personal favorite, “clipy thingies” .  My favorite type of carabiner is the spring-loaded variety (typical of the “not suitable for climbing ” key chains).  These handy helpers are cheap, come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors, and they make getting around the parks a snap!

Today, I am bringing you my top five uses for the oh so useful carabiner, while you are at Disney World!

#1 Resort Mug Keeper

Just a month ago, I fumbled my way around the parks trying to keep up with my empty resort mug.  I’m always finishing up my drink from breakfast as we enter the parks and because it is absolutely necessary to keep up with your resort mug, I tried to shuffle it around in my park bag all day.  Since refillable mugs are only good for free refills at your resort, they really aren’t useful in the parks, but I had to find something to do with it until I got back to my resort. So, what was I to do?  Well, typically I bring a carabiner with me to the parks, but  in a last-minute parking blunder, I traded bags left them at home!  I vowed right then and there to always pack a few in my bag and not rely on my stash of already clipped bags.  The cool thing about the resort refillable mugs is that they have a handle that would allow them to clip on like a charm (freeing up my hands); I think I could have fit at least 3 to a hook!  Try it out next time you are in the parks!

Disney's Prep & Landing and Naughty Vs Nice To Air Sunday December 9 On ABC

Two Emmy-winning specials produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios, “Disney Prep & Landing” and “Prep & Landing: Naughty vs. Nice”, will air back to back SUNDAY, DECEMBER 9 (8:00-8:30 & 8:30-9:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

The first half-hour holiday special reveals the never-before-told tale of an elite unit of Elves known as Prep & Landing. Every Christmas Eve this high-tech organization ensures that homes around the world are properly prepared for the yearly visit from The Big Guy, their code name for Santa Claus.

After working tirelessly on Prep & Landing for 227 years, an elf named Wayne is upset when he doesn’t receive an expected promotion to be the Director of Naughty List Intelligence. Instead, Magee, the North Pole Christmas Eve Command Center Coordinator (NPCECCC for short), partners Wayne with Lanny, an idealistic rookie who has an undying enthusiasm for Christmas. During their Christmas Eve mission, Wayne and Lanny encounter unexpected challenges that push them to their limits. Will the elves be able to guide Dasher, Dancer and the rest of the reindeer pulling Santa’s sleigh through a raging snowstorm to ensure a Merry Christmas for all?

One Of The Top 25 Most Dangerous Cities In America Is Orlando???

A sobering statistic to report from the Happiest Place On Earth (or at least where it resides)…violent crime in Orlando has placed the city on the “Top 25 Most Dangerous Cities In America” list.  Orlando ranks 24th among the top 25 most dangerous cities according to Business Insider’s analysis of FBI data on crime in the US in the year 2011.

According to the report Orlando reported 1,073 violent crimes per 100,000 people.  #1 on the list was Flint, Michigan with Detroit, MI coming in #2.  Just ahead of Orlando was Springfield, IL at #23 and below it Baton Rouge, LA at #25.

How does this affect you (if you do not live in the Orlando area but visit it frequently and stay in the bubble of Walt Disney World?) Read on travelers for some tips on keeping safe.

No matter where you are, be it downtown Scary Town or Walt Disney World, it’s always good to keep in mind when going away to remember that even though you are on vacation to always be alert and to use your common sense.  Unfortunately, there are people who take advantage of guests, especially those who may have their normal “guard” down because they are on vacation. Do not leave anything of value unattended, including cameras in strollers while you run into Mexico or souvenirs in bags to hold your table while you pick up your counter service food.

Also, remember if you see anything strange or feel threatened in any way, locate a cast member or call 911. Do not assume that just because you are at Disney that some criminals do not thrive on tourists. The good news is Walt Disney World does a great job in keeping security visible and the resort safe, so you should be comfortable but cautious and most important of all…use common sense!

What do you think about this tips?  Should Orlando be doing something different to get off the list?  Share tips of your own and let us know!

In an old wooden boat they row far out to sea, and with no land in sight, they stop and wait. A big surprise awaits the little boy as he discovers his family’s most unusual line of work. Should he follow the example of his Papa, or his Grandpa? Will he be able to find his own way in the midst of their conflicting opinions and timeworn traditions?”

Disney Epic Mickey 2 Demo Now Available For Download on PlayStation and Xbox

Disney Epic Mickey 2 Demo Now Available For Download on PlayStation and Xbox

Disney Interactive  announced yesterday that a demo of the highly-anticipated “Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two” video game is now available for download on the PlayStation®Network and Xbox LIVE® Marketplace for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft in North America.  In the video game demo, players will adventure as Mickey Mouse and explore the extensive tutorial and early levels of the game including the magical laboratory of the sorcerer, Yen Sid. In addition, players will meet Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, Walt Disney’s first cartoon star, and experience a few of the fun co-op abilities that will be available in the full game at launch. The adventure will culminate with an exciting sizzle reel that showcases some of the exciting and action-packed elements of the game. “Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two” will be available for all major console systems in North American retail stores on November 18th.

The “Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two” video game returns Mickey Mouse and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit to Wasteland, an alternate world filled with more than 80 years of forgotten Disney characters and theme park attractions.  But for the first time, Mickey and Oswald will join forces as true partners – Mickey with the magical paint brush that allows him to wield paint and thinner, and Oswald with a powerful remote control that allows him to command electricity.   This new co-op play further enhances the idea that “PlayStyle Matters” – a unique approach to gameplay pioneered by Warren Spector where players tackle challenges the way they want to in order to explore a variety of possibilities and storylines, but always with consequences for their chosen actions.
