Disney Adds Another App for iPad-UP: My Name is Dug

mzl.gjfsltqi.480x480-75

Squirrel?  Squirrel?  If you’ve seen Disney-Pixar’s UP, you know that is one of the most famous lines from that movie, right?  Disney has now taken that beloved dog-Dug-along with their magical way of bringing stories to life-and presented us with a new iPad app based on the move UP.

Got squirrels? You may recall in Disney·Pixar’s acclaimed 3D computer-animated film Up there is a dog named Dug, who wears a special collar that allows him to speak. Well, the story continues with this lovable canine in Disney Publishing’s newest app: UP: My name is Dug!

Building off of the Academy Award winning film’s story, UP: My name is Dug follows Dug on a new adventure, which requires the help of young readers to complete his quest. In this fully interactive app featuring the original voices from the movie, Dug introduces readers to his world in the wilds of the jungle with an endearing naïveté. The app features two reading modes for different skill levels and original music, creating an immersive and fun-filled reading experience for kids!

Disney DIY: Vacation Countdown Craft

Counting down the days to a Disney trip increases the excitement and keeps the anticipation growing right up to the moment of arrival. At our house, if we’re not ticking days off the calendar to our next vacation, we’re reminiscing about the last visit. Today, I’m sharing a Disney DIY that is multifunctional. It keeps the Disney magic alive when you’re away from “home” and it provides a fun way to mark the days till you return.

The wreath itself is the base for this craft. Once it’s done, you can change it up to fit any holiday season, or, as with today’s how-to, set it up to serve a very special purpose.

Epcot’s Habit Heroes – Take 2…

hh

Epcot’s Habit Heroes, an attraction that helps kids to defeat unhealthy habits is open again after undergoing an Imagineering re-do.

If you recall Habit Heroes opened last February and the attraction caused a huge amount of negative publicity when fat-acceptance groups said it’s characters were cruel stereotypes.  With all of this bad press swirling around the internet Disney closed the attraction by March 1st and sent Imagineers back to the drawing table.

Habit Heroes 2.0 really only has 2 common elements from the first version – its name and location (it’s housed inside Epcot’s Innoventions Pavilion).

It was the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance that triggered a nationwide reaction with their negative review of the attraction.  Disney and their sponsor of the attraction Florida Blue go the message loud and clear and went back to re-do the exhibit. Imagineers sought input from national experts in children’s health, weight and nutrition, including an obesity expert from Stanford University and a nutritional scientist from Cornell University.

Angela Escay, from Carmichael, Calif., returned for her first race in three years following ankle surgery to win the Tinker Bell Half Marathon at Disneyland Resort in Anaheim.

Escay’s winning effort, 1:24:10, also set a course record for the second annual women-focused event at Disneyland. Last year, Kellie Nickerson won the inaugural event with a 1:27:52.

“It was a good feeling to get back out there and do what I love to do,” Escay said. “The course was a lot of fun, run through the park. It was my first run back in three years.”

“Rudy” and “The Lord of the Rings” actor Sean Astin and former “Biggest Loser” winner and Live Well network host Ali Vincent were among the more than 14,000 registered runners for Sunday’s half marathon.

You’re Dead To Me on an all new Pretty Little Liars on ABC Family

TROIAN BELLISARIO, KEEGAN ALLEN, SHAY MITCHELL

IT’S SO HARD TO SAY GOODBYE TO YESTERDAY IN AN ALL NEW EPISODE OF “PRETTY LITTLE LIARS,” AIRING TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 5th AT 8:00 PM ET/PT ON ABC FAMILY

As the girls say goodbye to Alison again, new information is dug up, in “Dead to Me,” an all new episode of ABC Family’s hit original series “Pretty Little Liars,” airing Tuesday, February 5th (8:00 – 9:00 PM ET/PT).

Now that Ali’s remains are back with her family, the DiLaurentis’ are set to bury her again, giving Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer another opportunity to say goodbye to their friend. With everything that has gone on since Ali’s disappearance, the girls are divided about going to yet another memorial. Aria, Hanna and Emily are ready for another round of goodbye, if not for them but to also support Jason. Spencer, on the other hand, has had enough and wants nothing to do with the burial. Why keep saying farewell to a girl who wasn’t that great of a friend after all?

Sofia the First-A Must Have App for Your Little Princess

Sofia

When we were asked to review the new Sofia the First App on the iTunes store, I couldn’t have been more excited!  After all, since the movie aired on Disney, Jr., it plays almost every day in our house-and now we can take Sofia wherever we go!  My little princess loves the new Sofia the First app I downloaded for my iPad-and yours will, too!   Here is what I love about it:

  • Two different ways to play-read a story OR make your own with the story theater.
  • Sweet, charming graphics.  When you choose to read the story, the layout of the pages and the whimsy of the illustrations are adorable!
  • Your child chooses her own background, characters, and props for the Sofia’s Puppet Theater.  I have to say, this was a bit difficult for my three year old to do without help, but she loved it nonetheless.
  • The characters are easy to move around the screen and place on the “stage”.
  • You simply push the “record” button, and then your show is saved to view again.
  • Parents can set the story for auto play, or to allow your youngster to push an “arrow” to move to the next page.

Sofia the First comes alive in this super fun app for your little princess.  We love Disney’s digital stories and games because they bring a little Disney magic into our home between trips.  They’re also a “must have” for long car rides, waiting in line, and down time at our resort.  I highly suggest you download this app today and bring Disney’s newest, sweetest princess Sofia into your home!

Magically Yours,

Carrie

Collecting Disney World Resort Soap and Shampoo

soap

I know most people would look at this and think ” Why in the world would someone want to collect Disney World Resort Soap and Shampoo”.

Honestly I would have thought the same thing a few years ago myself, before I became a full-blown Disney addict. When I first saw the Disney resort soaps and shampoo I thought they were so cute, I love mini versions of everything, I decided to hide them the next day to see if I could get more. Well needless to say the Mousekeeper left more, so that was it I was hooked. Many people consider these a “Free” souvenir but I don’t see it as free because I pay dearly for my room and these are included in any hotel rate so in my mind I paid for them.

When I got home from my first Disney resort stay I did some research about the topic online and there quite a few other people who actually did the same thing and had strategies as to how to collect and get the most that you can. I found out that if you ask Mousekeeping for more soap and shampoo they will actually bring you a BAG FULL OF SOAP AND SHAMPOO. If you leave a note asking very nicely for your mousekeeper to leave you more she will leave, or may, leave you ANOTHER BIG BAG OF SOAP AND SHAMPOO. I know it there are a few of you shaking your head thinking that the Disney addiction has gone to far and I should be committed.

10 Money Saving Tips for your next Disney World Vacation

epcot

Want to take the kids to the Disney World, but money a little tight? With this economy who’s budget isn’t tight…With a little planning it can be done: here are ten ways to save on your next Disney World Vacation.

  1. Stay at a Disney Value Resort Hotels – While on property you still get all the extra’s as someone staying at the larger resorts. Such as Disney Transportation, extra magic hours, Disney Dining Plan, and much more. The rooms might be a little smaller but your just there to sleep right?
  2. Stay at a resort or vacation home off Disney property. If you have to there are plenty of decent hotel rooms available all around Lake Buena Vista. If you have a larger family (more than four people), the savings are even greater. You can get a vacation home with a private pool for a week but remember you will need your own transportation.
  3. Watch for Disney Promotions. Who doesn’t love free food? Lately Disney is almost always running some sort of discount on their website. (Keep in mind Chip and Company constantly keep you up to date on current Disney promotions so check back with us often) Also Disney is known to send out special promotions via postcard and email.  How do you get them to send you one? Its a mystery, but signing up to receive one of their vacation planning videos and registering at www.disneyworld.com will help. Read my previous article on the elusive Pin Codes here.
  4. Purchase a dining package. Disney offers dining packages to guests staying at their resorts. These packages have to be booked in advance and you can save 30% or more on your dining if you buy one of these plans. Essentially the dining plan is a meal plan that you pay for in advance. Sorta like a lay-away. Check out this article talking about to Meal Plan or Not To Meal Plan.
  5. Travel during the “off” season. Disney resort and dining prices fluctuate depending on what time of year it is; the same trip over Christmas week will cost you a whole lot less the first week of December. There is much debate when the off season is. One guideline to follow is when school is out it will be busy. If you check on a Disney Cruise you will see the same trip almost double for Spring Break or in the Summer.
