Network Greenlights Two New Reality Series, “Dancing Fools” and “The Vineyard”

Michael Riley, president, ABC Family, today announced the pick-up of two reality series, “Dancing Fools,” which will be hosted by Melissa Peterman, star of the network’s hit comedy series, “Baby Daddy,” and a docu-soap, “The Vineyard” (working title). Production on both series will begin this spring.

“Dancing Fools” is a half-hour unscripted comedy hosted by Melissa Peterman, who also stars in ABC Family’s “Baby Daddy” — which was the #1 new cable comedy of Summer 2012 in key women demos — and in the upcoming ABC reality series, “Bet on Your Baby.” Created and executive-produced by Phil Gurin (“The Singing Bee,” “Oh Sit”), the series is produced by the Gurin Company.

“The Vineyard,” a dramatic coming-of-age docu-soap, follows a handful of 20-somethings in Martha’s Vineyard for the summer. Tight quarters, new friends and new rivals, all living, working and playing together, make this picturesque playground ripe for mischief and romance. “The Vineyard” is created and executive-produced by Dave Broome (“Biggest Loser”) and Brian Smith (“Masterchef”). The series is produced by 25/7 Productions.

Both reality series will premiere this summer with the recently announced one hour dramas “The Fosters,” from executive producer Jennifer Lopez, and “Twisted,” from executive producer Gavin Polone.

Hugh Laurie in Talks to Play Villain in Brad Bird’s ‘Tomorrowland’

Hugh Laurie

The more I hear about Brad Bird’s upcoming sci-fi film, ‘Tomorrowland’, formally known as ‘1952’, the more excited I become.  The film already landed George Clooney to star, and now it looks like we may have our villain, and I think it’s the best choice possible. The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively learned Hugh Laurie  is in talks to play the film’s villain. As of right now, the whole production is still is shrouded in secrecy, with the only indication of what to expect being that the film will be in the same vein of ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’. It makes sense that the film is shrouded in so much secrecy, since it’s written by Damon Lindelof, as many of his films and shows have that air of secrecy around them.

I love the choice of having Hugh Laurie play the villain in the film. He’s one of the finest actors currently working in Hollywood, and he has a presence that few actors can match. After his eight years on TV’s ‘House’, we know he can play a brilliant anti-hero, so I can’t wait to see him go full villain mode in this. Bird seems to be getting a rather strong cast to headline the film, and I can’t wait to learn more about what the film is going to be about. For now though, the thought of having Clooney and Laurie together on screen is something I’m very excited about. ‘Tomorrowland’ is set to open December 19, 2014. Are you excited about ‘Tomorrowland’? And how do you feel about Hugh Laurie being in the film?  Let me know in the comments below, only here at Chip and Company!

I don’t know about you, but after getting home from a great Walt Disney World vacation, I like to spend some time admiring my new souvenirs, including my great new Disney Pins. I decided to make a shadow box display case for them, and it was so easy that you could do it too!

Royal Party and Storybook Deluxe Princess App Reviews

Royal Party App

There are FIVE Disney Princess Apps on sale for $1.99 right now through Friday (Feb 15) at the iTunes store (regularly $4.99). I’m here tell you about the Disney Princess – Royal Party app and the Beauty and the Beast: Storybook Deluxe app.

Royal Party celebrates Rapunzel becoming a Disney Princess! This app is loaded with a lot of fun for little girls! There are Coloring Pages, Puzzles, and a story to read about Rapuzel, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg – look at what else there is to discover!

Royal Party story app

Pictured below is the Princess Dress-up game. Choose one of six princesses to dress up. Princesses can be dolled up with dresses, shoes, jewelry, hats or tiaras! There are endless combinations, and once you’re done with one, go dress up the next Princess!

There are a couple of crafts and recipes your child can make with your help. Step-by-step instructions are listed within the app, making it easy for your child to understand. These crafts and recipes are geared towards a ‘Princess Party’ theme… so if your daughter has a Birthday coming up – this would be perfect!!

Royal Party craft page

Another fun activity is designing your own Party scene with Rapunzel, Flynn and all of the other Princes and Princesses! There are a couple of backdrops you can choose, and then you can place each Prince and Princess where ever you like on the page!

Royal Party Sticker scene

I still haven’t touched on everything this app has to offer! When your child creates a special ‘sticker’ scene or coloring page, she can email it to a friend or family member. Between activity selections, funny scenes from the Rapunzel movie will play. This is an entertaining app for any Princess fan!

Beauty and the Beast: Storybook Deluxe tells the traditional story of  Belle and highlights each word as it is read (or your older ones can read the story on their own.)

Belle storybook app

On a few pages of the story, you can gently shake the iPad and a few of the animals will “move” creating a 3D illusion effect on the page. Pictured below, the wolves move toward the beast as if they’re about to attack.

BLmove

Just like most of Disney’s storybook apps, this one includes coloring pages, puzzles and a few animated clips. A fun game that is included is a maze.

Belle app maze

Throughout the app, music from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast is played. There is also a “rose” search throughout the entire story. As you find a rose on select pages, touch it and it will find it’s way into your rose collection at the very end of the book. There are a dozen roses to find!

Again, these 2 apps and a few other Disney Princess apps are on sale for $1.99 through Feb 15, 2013. A fun Valentine’s gift for your little Princess!

Is the Art of Animation Resort Right for you?

aoa

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the new Art of Animation resort. It is an amazing and beautiful resort. It is considered a “value” resort but it does not look like a “value” resort in anyway. They have mainly suites and some standard rooms.

When you first drive up to the resort you see the huge paintings outside of Animation Hall representing the characters that have suites or rooms in their honor. There is quite a little winding road to get there but then when you see the big reveal it is worth the wait. This resort is very colorful and it will definitely lift your spirits.

When you enter Animation Hall you are greeted by a ton of sketches and drawings on the wall and the ceiling, so don’t forget to look up as you enter. The drawings and sketches are from some of your favorite characters before they became what you know them as today. My daughters favorite sketch is all the way down in the upper right corner, it is a sketch of Ursula, not as we know her today but as a skinny Ursula. After you have checked out the sketches you must check in. The wall behind the check in desks is full of bright colors. As you look down the wall the colors gradually change. In Animation Hall you will also find the Pixel Play Arcade. The Ink and Paint Shop (also known as the gift shop), and Landscape of Flavors Food Court.

Chip’s Tips: When you go into the Ink and Paint shop pay close attention to the walls because the walls are designed to look like big ink wells or big paint jars!

The buildings that are closest to Animation Hall are the suites, which are the Cars, Nemo, and Lion King buildings. The Little Mermaid rooms are the farthest away from Animation Hall, but that may not be a big thing because I found the Little Mermaid building to be the quietest. The Cars Suites have 3 buildings, Nemo and Lion King have 2 buildings and finally The Little Mermaid rooms have 3 buildings.

The courtyards of these buildings are amazing. The suites have the best courtyards in my opinion. The Little Mermaid rooms have the standard “value” resort courtyard feel. I was told that the Little Mermaid rooms are the same size as every other standard value resort room but to me these rooms felt a little bigger.  This resort is an attraction in itself. Even if you don’t stay at this resort I would suggest that you take a stroll through the courtyards because they really make you feel like you are in the movie. The music, the feel of the courtyards, the painting on the buildings, everything makes these courtyards incredible. Those of us who are Disney addicts know that Disney pays great attention to detail and these courtyards show that.

I am not much of a pool person but what kind of review would this be if I left out the pools. The pool that stands out to me the most is The Big Blue pool, where you will find Marlin and Nemo peeking out there home. Next to them you will find a larger than life Crush and Dory. There are 2 other pools, The Cozy Cone pool, and the Flippin Fins pool. It seemed like the Flippin Fins pool was the quietest and least used. The Big Blue pool was extremely crowded.

Chip’s Tips: I have been told there is music playing under the water in the Big Blue Pool. I will have to take there word for it because I will not be going under the water to find out.

I would highly recommend this resort. It is the best “value” resort, in my opinion. The food here is very good but it is not some of the typical food court food that you are used to. They have a lot of “Create Your Own” style dishes, so you can get anything pretty much the way you want it. The Cast Members at this resort somehow seem different to me. I know for the most part Cast members are beyond friendly and helpful but they seem extra friendly and extra accommodating at this resort. They all smile at you as you walk by and ask you how you are doing. To be fair I have only stayed at 2 other Disney resorts.  Our Mousekeeper was amazing and left my daughter her very first towel animal, not only once but twice. She also left the most adorable window display in every window on our floor. We never had this at any other Value resort.

Have you stayed at Art of Animation? Would you? Tell us your experiences?

Sunshine is a Disney fanatic. You will find her counting down the days until she goes back to Disney, while annoying her daughter with all things Disney.

Review of Three New Disney Princess Apps

Disney Princess Sticker Book app

From now until February 15th, there are some super cute Princess apps available at the iTunes store for only $1.99. I am so excited to share my review of three of these apps with you today.

Princess Sticker Dress Up is a “two for one” app. Here is what I LOVE about this app:

  • You can use stickers to dress up your favorite princess. But the cool thing is, the dresses are interchangeable. So, if you want, Belle can wear a Cinderella dress, etc.
  • There are tons of fun accessories to choose from-shoes, purses, tiaras, necklaces. You can really customize your princess to maker her your own.
  • Each princess dress up also reads your little princess a story. So, you not only get to dress up your princesses, but your little one can have a story read to her as well.
  • Save and email your creations to family members-super cute!
  • My favorite thing about this app is that you can insert a picture of your little princess’s face and she can look like her favorites!

Cinderella Story Book is another one of Disney’s awesome storybook apps. I LOVE this one because:

  • My daughter can read it herself or have it read to her.
  • The graphics are charming and enchanting and look great on both the iPad and iPhone.
  • There is a fun “sing along”-which is an added bonus when you have a princess who loves to sing with her favorite characters!
  • Your child can get creative and paint three fun scenes from Cinderella and you can share these via email or save to your camera on your device.

Princess and the Frog Story Book app is a fun way to add some Tiana magic to your princess this Valentine’s Day. What do I LOVE about this one?

  • As it is reading to your child, the words are highlighted so she can follow along.
  • The pictures are animated, sort of like watching a movie, making it fun to watch while you read.
  • Choose from several different scenes to paint and share with others.
  • As an added bonus, there are two games-Facilier’s Fortune and Firefly Chase-to choose from.
  • 5 different puzzles will keep your princess entertained as well.

I think that downloading these apps is a sweet way to show your little princess some love this Valentine’s day! And, with all the great options and features on each of these, $1.99 makes it easy to entertain your princess! My favorite thing about all three apps is that there is more to them than meets the eye-painting, puzzles, and more!

Magically Yours,
Carrie

Disney at American International Toy Fair 2013

Innovation, creativity and powerful storytelling are the hallmarks of the 2013 toy line from Disney Consumer Products (DCP).

Some of the most innovative toys are from the new Monsters University toy collection and include features like sound and light detection technology and facial sync technology to allow for more interactive play than ever before, while The Little Mermaid and Disney Junior toy lines incorporate music and character voices to bring the products to life.

Sparking imagination, these toys capture the magic of playtime with evergreen play patterns. Here is a highlight of the top products from DCP at Toy Fair 2013:

DISNEY·PIXAR ANIMATION
Monsters University
Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan are an inseparable pair, but this was not always the case. Monsters University tells the story of how these two mismatched monsters overcame their differences and became the best of friends.

Disney Consumer Products worked closely with licensees to develop a broad Monsters University toy collection that includes action figures, vehicles, playsets, plush figures, preschool and remote control items to help kids recreate key moments from the film through innovative and fun features.

Children will be able to recreate the fun, action and adventure of the film during playtime with products such as Scare Off Sulley from Spin Master, a feature plush that utilizes life-like animatronics and sound and light detection technology to change play modes and sense the environment. Combining traditional roleplay with inventive characteristics, the Sulley Monster Mask from Spin Master is powered by children during play, reflecting their movements with its movable mouth and eyebrows.
