Top Five Reasons To Stay At Disney’s POP Century Resort

POP Sign

Walt Disney World has so many amazing Resort Hotels to choose from that researching and picking one is no easy task! They all are great in their own ways, but to me, Disney’s Pop Century Resort stands out as one of the best. Why, you ask? Well, here are the top 5 reasons:

1. Great Value – Pop Century is one of WDW’s Value Resorts, which means its among the lowest priced Resorts on Disney property, with rooms ranging from as low as $85 a night up to $190 a night (depending on what time of year you are planning to visit). The amount of fun you get for this price is what makes it a great value – there are great pools, play areas, an arcade. and an amazing food court/gift shop area to keep you entertained. Standard rooms sleep 4, and while some complain that they are small, I find them to be plenty spacious, and all rooms have new furnishings and really are a great place to stay and still get that “on property” Disney magic for a low price (which of course includes extra magic hours, and use of Disney Transportation including the Disney Magical Express airport shuttle service)

2nd Annual Special Diets IllumiNations Dessert Party to take place October 13, 2013

2nd Annual SD IllumiNations Party

The 2nd Annual Special Diets IllumiNations Dessert Party is being held Sunday, October 13, 2013 at the France Pavilion at Epcot® in the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. This event is being hosted by the Gluten Free & Dairy Free at WDW Blog and sponsored by Mousekejournals. Other sponsors include yours truly, Chip & Co., as well as Disney Dining“Mouse”cation and others. The event will include a dessert buffet in which all items will be made to be free of the top 8 common allergens (including gluten/wheat, dairy, egg, soy, tree nut, peanut, fish, and shellfish). Blog author and host, Sarah Norris, says that this dessert party not only helps bring awareness to the increasing prevalence of food allergies and intolerances, but also allows attendees with special diets to meet one another.

“This event is a great way to connect with others in the special diets community and to share tips and tricks about dining safely with a special diet. We had such a great response to last year’s event, that we wanted to start planning the next one right away!”

Counterfeiting Disney DVD’s Means Prison Time

I heart Minnie dvd

According to the Orlando Sentinel, Dale Borders, 38, was sentenced to 30 months in a federal prison after being convicted on charges of trafficking in counterfeit Beach Body, Zumba, and Disney DVDs. Borders was living in Orlando and through a company called 5A Novelty was importing the DVD’s between March 2009 and August 2011, prosecutors said.

5A Novelty was warned by Beachbody in March 2011 that they were not an approved distributor of the company’s products.  Beachbody and eBay shut down 5A Novelty’s site at least three times based on the information. Borders continued to reactivate it.

Shipments that were coming into Orlando were inspected by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security were labeled teaching and learning materials, said the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Everyone is trying to always make a quick buck, so it is nice to see what comes around goes around and this guy get caught! I have written and seen many news articles about the counterfeiting with park tickets in Disneyland but seems the problem is growing everywhere. What do you think? Have you seen “black market” Disney items before?

2013 Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival

flo

Every spring, Epcot hosts the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival. Whether you have a green thumb or not, there is something for everyone to enjoy at this beautiful event. Many of your favorite characters can be found all throughout the park. You can usually find your favorite princesses at each of their home countries.

For instance, Belle and the Beast can be found in France while Snow White is at the Germany pavilion- all made out of plants and flowers. You might even find Lady and the Tramp sitting outside of the Italy pavilion.  These life-size topiaries are just beautiful! There are surprises every year so there’s always something new for you to see!

2013 marks the 20th anniversary of this special event. The 2013 International Flower and Garden Festival will take place between March 6 and May 19. You will find over 100 topiaries, more than 200 floating mini-gardens, dozens of flower towers, numerous beds of multi-colored blossoms. Admission to the festival is included with your admission to Epcot at no additional cost.

There are several new features for 2013. The World Showcase will host Garden Marketplace Culinary Creations which include special menus at each pavilion inspired by that country’s cuisine. There will also be Garden Marketplace refreshing libations with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages available. There will also be a new “Land of Oz” play area for children which will be inspired by the upcoming movie “Oz: The Great and Powerful” which comes out March 8, 2013.

This area will have a circus theme and will feature games, tents, play systems, and plants all themed from the movie.  This is a great place to let your kids do something special at no extra cost. Make sure you check out the larger than life topiaries of Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Donald, and Pluto where the gang is “cooking out.” You can also see illuminated gardens every evening in both Future World and the World Showcase.

Don’t worry, though, your other favorites will be there, too. There will be other play areas throughout the park for children. These are great to let your children explore while you take a break. The Flower Power concert series featuring artists from the 1960’s and 1970’s will still be taking the stage on weekends. You can also learn some new gardening tips and techniques at daily seminars. Lastly, you can also see your favorite HGTV stars every weekend. The full line-up can be found here.

Is the flower and garden festival an event you attend every year? Which topiary is your favorite?

Top 10 Best Disney Feelings

rocknrollercoaster

No matter how many times I go to Walt Disney World, certain sights, sounds, attractions, and experiences still elicit excitement and smiles from me as if it was my first trip! How Disney World makes me feel is one of the many reasons that keep me coming back year after year; and today, I’m sharing my favorite Disney feelings from the surge of adrenaline through my favorite thrill rides to the sweet taste of a classic Disney snack! Let’s see if any of these are your favorites too!

10. Flying over London on Peter Pan’s Flight-This original opening day attraction has been a favorite among guests for generations, and that’s because I get to experience what it’s like to fly out of Darling children’s nursery and over a tiny, glowing London while aboard a flying pirate ship! This part of the attraction really makes me feel like a kid again; and for just a moment, I believe!

9. Walking into your Disney Resort room for the first time-I’m a huge fan of the Disney resorts because they let the Disney magic continue even after I’ve left the parks; and one of my favorite Disney feelings is that anticipation of opening my resort room door, wondering what Disney touches I will find inside and what my new Disney home will be for the next few days! See, I’m getting excited just talking about it!

8. Biting into the ear of a Mickey Mouse Premium Bar-This Mickey shaped ice cream bar, covered in a layer of thin chocolate, is a Disney World classic and is somewhat of a rite of passage for anyone visiting WDW for the first time. Plus, in the humid, Florida heat, it’s one the best ways to cool off.

Sephora Releases Disney Jasmine Collection

Disney-Jasmine-Collection-by-Sephora

Sephora is officially rolling out their new Disney Jasmine Collection.  Sephora has been behind Disney collections before such the Cinderella Collection and the new Urban Decay Wizard of Oz makeup and they are not about to give up now. Just in time for spring and summer make your own magic with Disney’s Jasmine Collection by Sephora. Each product has been created with the modern Princess in mind. Discover eyeshadow palettes with exotic shades, an intoxicating fragrant elixir, and an eyeliner set that will give you the sultry gaze of a Princess. With rich colors and dramatic detailing, each piece is as collectible and covetable as a palace gem.

Thoughtfully inspired by the Disney animation, Aladdin, each eyeshadow shade from the Storylook Palette and the Small Eyeshadow Palette were inspired directly from the film’s original colors. A few of our favorites include the shade “Blue Oasis”, a light turquoise just like Jasmine’s outfit. “Arabian Sunset” is a bright shimmering coral, as exotic as a sunset over Jasmine’s palace. “Wonder by Wonder” is a glittery violet as enchanting as the night sky during Jasmine and Aladdin’s magic carpet ride.

BSkyB To Launch Sky Movies Disney

lone_ranger-645x250

Satellite broadcaster BSkyB ( or ‘Sky’) has announced the creation of a new TV channel just for Disney and Pixar fans.  The channel, which is available in the UK and Ireland, is expected to launch on March 28.

Sky Movies Disney will feature both classic movies from Disney and Pixar on the dedicated film channel. This new channel will be in addition to the existing Disney Channel, also available for subscription via Sky and other cable/satellite operators.

Sky Movies Disney will represent the first time that Disney has launched a co-branded linear (non-catchup/on-demand) movie channel anywhere.  No only will Disney’s catalog be available on the Sky Movies Disney channel, but will also be available on-demand through Sky Go, which includes viewing on smartphones, tablets and computers.

The Walt Disney Company has been very busy with it’s movie and television department.  In December Disney inked a deal with Netflix giving them access to Disney’s first-run films starting in 2016.  Disney also acquired Lucasfilm last last year as well.

Makes me wish I lived across the pond!

Check out Princess Etch A Sketch by Jane Labowitch

castle etch and a sketch

If you’re like me, you’ve enjoyed creating your own art on an Etch A Sketch. Turn the knobs, create a “magic screen”-full of art, then shake it up and start all over again. Never in my wildest dreams, though, could I imagine completing Etch A Sketch drawings like those created by Jane Labowitch.

Jane, a 21-year-old artist in Chicago who is known professionally by the nickname “Princess Etch A Sketch,” began playing with the famous Ohio Art drawing toy at age four. In fact, she says her love of the Etch A Sketch actually has some Disney roots, thanks to a boost from Disney’s animated classics.

“When I was young, soon after ‘Aladdin’ was released on VHS, I used to watch it at my grandma’s house while playing around with my Etch A Sketch,” she remembers. “And when I was a kid, all I could really draw were staircases. But what inspired me to draw more was the scene in ‘Aladdin’ where he has to walk up the long flight of stairs to retrieve the magic lamp. I used to draw that scene all the time. Soon, the staircases started looking more detailed, and the boxy Aladdin became more and more detailed as I practiced.”
