Four-race challenge will produce six-medal opportunity for runners; New Walt Disney World 10K expands weekend event to five days; popular Runner’s World Challenge returns

After celebrating its 20th anniversary earlier this year, the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend presented by Cigna is getting even bigger next year and is offering runners another challenge that will be, well, Dopey.

The 2014 Disney Marathon Weekend, Jan. 8-12, will expand to five days and will include a 10K, along with the Family Fun Run 5K, the Disney Half Marathon, the Disney Marathon and Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge. That creates the opportunity for an unparalleled proposition in the running industry: The Dopey Challenge – running all four timed events in successive days (48.6 miles) for the chance to earn an unprecedented six medals.

After the Disney Family Fun Run 5K on Thursday, runDisney’s new alt Disney World 10K, a 6.2-mile timed event, takes place Friday, at Epcot.  Runners completing the race will receive a Minnie Mouse inspired medal.

LiloAndStitch_2Movie_Collection_2013

This summer Walt Disney Studios treats audiences to two heartwarming and hilarious animated comedies about bringing friends and family together even when they seem worlds apart in one fun “Lilo and Stitch” 2-movie collection.

Available June 11, 2013 for the first time on Blu-ray with perfect picture and sound, the “Lilo & Stitch” and “Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has A Glitch” movies are hours of fantastic fun in one incredible collection! The 3-disc Blu-ray Combo Pack includes both feature films on one Blu-ray disc plus each film on individual DVDs.

“Lilo and Stitch” is the story of Lilo, a lonely little girl, and Stitch the mischievous little creature from outer space. When Stitch crash-lands in Hawaii, Lilo adopts him as her pet, but he soon turns her world upside down. Stitch takes Hawaii by storm, wreaking havoc and hanging ten while he evades the alien bounty hunters who are after him, and also learning about loyalty and friendship. Featuring six original Elvis Presley songs, “Lilo and Stitch” is fun for the entire family.

Disney Dollars are Back!

dolalr

Yep, you heard right Disney Dollars are back and just in time for Spring Break trips and Easter baskets. While heroes rarely back villains on on the silver screen, they’re doing just that on the 2013 limited-edition series of Disney Dollars available now at the Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort.

The new series included four unique designs of the $1 bill, with the front displaying classic Disney Villains and back depicting the heroes who managed to thwart those villains  diabolical plans.

Featured evildoers include Captain Hook (backed by peter Pan and Wendy); Cruella De Vil (backed by a trio Dalmatians); Maleficent in dragon form (backed by Prince Phillips and Princess Aurora); and Ursula with Flotsam ad Jetsam (backed by Prince Eric and Ariel).

A Disney Parks tradition since 1987, Disney Dollars may be collected as souvenirs or redeemed for use as currency within the Disneyland and Walt Disney World resorts, as well as at Disney Stores.

While the new “Villains and Heroes” series is available only in $1 bills, other Disney Dollar designs are available in denominations of $1, $5 and $10. When you buy $25 of the new edition, they come sealed with consecutive serial numbers. You may want to call ahead before traveling to your nearest Disney Store because some didn’t get them and some are already out. You can also call your favorite Disney Shopper and have them pick you up some before they are gone.

Do you collect Disney Dollars? Let us know in the comment box below.

Why Two Days at Disneyland isn’t enough

disneyland-1-195

Plenty of first time visitors to Disneyland are under the impression that one or two days is more than enough at Disneyland. They check the park maps and compare them to Walt Disney World. They figure there aren’t 4 theme parks, 2 water parks and more, so it can be done in a day or two? Well no, there isn’t all that, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty of Disneyland Activities for keeping busy at Disneyland and beyond!

Two Theme Parks – Let’s start with the Obvious, there’s Disneyland and California Adventure parks to play at. I usually recommend at least one day for each park, plus at leasts a 3rd day so you can hit whatever you missed or loved the most. With the new Cars Land you can literally spend an entire day on Route 66. It’s that cool.

Jedi Training Academy – Take the time to find out about joining in the Jedi Training Academy. You’re little rebel fighters will thank you! Have your kids wear something flashy, Star Wars gear or even hold up a sign. This will increase the chances of them being selected. Once selected your young rebel fighter(s) will get to learn the way of the Jedi!

Star Wars Land at Disneyland?

st

A long time from now in a city not so far away we may all get to visit Star Wars Land at Disneyland. The Disney-verse has lit up more than a Death Star explosion with the news of a survey being addressed to Annual Pass Holder and Fanatics. This survey includes a number of references to a Star Wars Land and asks what the respondents think of this expansion idea. What do you think? Would you like a Star Wars Land at Disneyland?

We’ve known of plans to add a Star Wars Land to Disneyland Paris since last year when the imagineers let that out. The Star Wars Land is said to include Star Tours, Jedi Academy and a Mos Eisley Cantina. Without any ground breaking yet, we don’t know for sure where it will go. However, the rumors state that likely it will take over Pizza Planet and Captain EO which are next to Star Tours. They will then expand it to become its own Star Wars Land.

Here’s what we know:

  1. Disney spent $4 Billion to buy Star Wars
  2. Disneyland Anaheim is asking guests to take a survey about Star Wars
  3. Disneyland Paris Star Wars Land planned opening in 2015
  4. Star Wars VII is planned for release in 2015
  5. Star Wars Weekends at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

As my imagination runs wild, here’s what I predict, Star Wars Land will open in both Disneyland Anaheim and Disneyland Paris around the same time as Star Wars VII comes out. Disney didn’t get to where they are without knowing how to do things big.

We all know that Disneyland Resort doesn’t have a lot of unused space. So the question becomes, where does it go? Everyone has their own ideas and most are pretty good thoughts. I’ve read that perhaps it will replace Tomorrowland, or maybe it will go in the much alluded to “Third Gate” that is supposed to open sometime in the next few decades. Maybe, just maybe Disney is holding out on us and has already been purchasing up additional space around Disneyland that we haven’t heard about yet.

While we don’t have a lot of solid evidence to give yet, we do know that Star Wars Land at Disneyland is a real possibility. Don’t book your trip just yet, but do keep checking back with us for any new information. What do you think of a possible Star Wars Land at Disneyland? Let us know!

One last juicy bit of gossip to share, just read that perhaps, maybe, just maybe Walt Disney World will get a Cars Land & Star Wars Land combined at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Now that’s a big stretch, but hey we can all dream right? Didn’t Walt teach us all to keep dreaming and reaching?

Disney is About to Help Airline Passengers Big Time in Orlando

mco

Ever flown back home from Orlando? Or just flown anywhere from Orlando or even thought about it? Yes? So now you have the dreaded pit in your stomach that all airline passengers flying out of MCO in Orlando feel when thinking about the security lines.

The awful, crazy security lines that are filled with families after a fun-filled week at Disney World with a ton of bags, strollers, packages, tired kids and tired moms and dads. So, then for everyone else trying to get through the airport, such as the frequent flyers, Orlando locals, people flying without tons of reasons to slow others down, and the Disney family it becomes quite possibly one of the worst TSA screening areas in the country…and believe me I have seen them all!

So, what to do, this could discourage visitors to Disney and our friends at the Walt Disney Co. do not like that idea and being the smart cookies they are they have taken out a few interesting patents.

Disneyland Planning for Disney World experts

DLentrance

When planning vacations I noticed recently there is an upswing of Walt Disney World vacationeers planning trips to Disneyland. I imagine there is some culture shock as to the amount of differences. For starters, they may wonder “Where’s Epcot, Hollywood Studios, Water Parks, or the massive hotels?” I’m here to help you with your Disneyland Planning for Disney World experts!

Pre-Planning: Let’s start with planning your trip, or working with your travel agent to plan your trip. The planning of your trip to Disneyland is a completely different process than booking at Walt Disney World (further known as WDW). I honestly tell people that there are times when I think that Disneyland and WDW are run by completely different companies who’ve never even spoken to each other. There are so many things that are that different!

Hotel Options: Disneyland offers three on-site hotel choices. These are two Moderate Resorts and one Deluxe Resort, Paradise Pier, Disneyland Hotel and Grand Californian Hotel and Spa. Each has many great amenities and are great places to stay. But what about a value resort? Well look across the street from Disneyland and you’ll see rows and rows of hotels. Some even closer to the entrance to Disneyland than Disney’s own hotels. These hotels have a relationship with Disney and are referred to as “Good Neighbor Hotels”. You or your Travel Agent can book these hotels as part of any Disneyland package. There are so many choices available that range from one to five stars. Including suite options.

Disney World Resorts for Five Guests

Port Orleans Riverside
Port Orleans Riverside

Families of five can find some great resorts to accommodate them at Walt Disney World Resort.  While recently booking our resort stay for our upcoming trip, I came across some resorts that can work for families of five, and still be considered “standard rooms”.  Suites are nice, as are rooms at the Club Level.  However, those aren’t the most cost effective for many families, or they often have double sized beds, which can make it tight for sleeping comfortably after a long day at the parks.

Today I want to share with you Five Disney Resorts for Five Guests.

1.  Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside Resort will accommodate up to five guests.  This is a great option, as it is priced at the Moderate Resort level, and is a charming resort close to Downtown Disney.  The rooms for five are equipped with two queen size beds, and a pull out bunk size bed.  If you are traveling with a young child, about up to age 6, who is too big for a pack and play, this is a great option.  This option is available for all Standard Rooms at Port Orleans-Riverside, NOT the Royal Guest Rooms.  What I love about this resort is its charm.  The grounds and landscaping are beautiful, there are great recreation activities here, and it’s just a short ride across the “bayou” to Downtown Disney.
