Animal Kingdom Snack Attack: Where To Head When Hunger Hits

DinoBites

I don’t know about you, but I like to hit Disney’s Animal Kingdom as soon as it opens in the morning. I grab a quick bagel and coffee at the Kusafari Coffee Shop and Bakery and head for my favorite rides like Expedition Everest and Kali River Rapids

By about 11 am, I am usually done with my “must-do” rides, and am ready for a late morning snack. Where do I head? Well, I check out these Top 5 Animal Kingdom Snack Spots:

Yak and Yeti – This counter service location in Animal Kingdom’s Asia offers some truly unique meal options, and their snacks are special too! Grab an egg roll, or a basket of fries, or some banana pudding or chocolate mousse to satisfy your sweet tooth. Beer (Bud Light and Safari Amber) as well as assorted soft drinks are available here as well

Kusafari Coffee Shop and Bakery – Over in Africa you will find this “sweet spot” that offers breakfast items as well as some delicious fresh baked goods like srownies, white chocolate elephant cupcakes (link), cookies, coffee beverages, and bottled drinks too

Campfire Treats – Camp Mickey/Minnie is a great place for the kids, and it’s a great place to grab a snack too! This kiosk offers funnel cakes, as well as soft serve cones and dishes, floats, worm n’dirt sundaes, and strawberry shortcake

Harambe Fruit Market – This is really more of a fruit stand, it offers apples/oranges/bananas, as well as mixed fruit cups and pineapple bites. Pick up some trail mix or a soft pretzel to boost your energy levels, and don’t forget a frozen lemonade to help beat that Florida heat!

Dino Bite Snacks – If you have worked up an appetite enjoying all that Dinoland has to offer, then head to this snack stand for a fresh hot churro, or an old fashioned hot fudge sundae, waffle cone, or ice cream cooke sandwich! You can always skip the ice cream and enjoy a cookie or chips with a soft drink or coffee too

Paw Print Brownie - AK

So what’s the best snack that Animal Kingdom has to offer? Personally, I love the Brownie Paw at Kusafari – thick fudgey brownie base, covered with a chocolate ganache and then topped with a nice thick layer of vanilla buttercream frosting

But, the drinks offered at the various kiosks and carts in the Park are a close second – a brownie and a margarita may not sound like they go together, but trust me, they do.

But everyone has their favorites, so I would love to know what YOU think!

Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Wonder Rescues Migrant Rafters

One of the Disney Cruise Line’s ships picked up eight migrant rafters last Friday. The Disney Wonder was sailing approximately forty miles from Key West on April 12, 2013 when they spotted and rescued eight migrant rafters. Their nationality has not been released yet. Carnival Cruise Line’s Conquest ship reported that they picked up thirteen Cuban nationals in the same area on Friday.

All of these individuals have been turned over to the United States Coast Guard. The U.S. Coast Guard is currently interviewing all of these migrant rafters that were rescued by the two cruise ships off the Florida Keys. Petty Officer Mark Barney says that Coast Guard officials will decide whether they will be sent back to their country of origin or be turned over to U.S. authorities.

Disneynature’s WINGS OF LIFE DVD Review

wings

Disneynature has done it again! From the studio that brought you the captivating films earth, oceans, African Cats, and Chimpanzee comes Wings of Life,  “a stunning adventure full of intrigue, drama and mesmerizing beauty.”

Wings of Life is the latest documentary from Disneynature. Narrated by Academy Award-winning actress, Meryl Streep, the film takes an up-close look at some of the littlest things on our planet that make the biggest impact on life as we know it.

Unlike its Disneynature predecessors that followed the daily lives and life spans of particular species, Wings of Life focuses (and very closely, I might add) on the correlation blossoms, birds, bees, bats, and butterflies have on the earth’s life cycle—how their activities, that may seem trivial to us, affect not only plants and animals in nature, but also food provision for humankind.

Johnny Depp Invited To Join Comanche Tribe

johnny-depp-as-tonto

Actor Johnny Depp will be starring in Disney’s upcoming film, The Lone Ranger. Johnny Depp will be playing the Native American hero Tonto. Comanche Nation leaders invited him to become an honorary member of their tribe while he was filming The Lone Ranger in New Mexico last May.

Depp said that being adopted into the tribe was “possibly the greatest memento” he could have received. Comanche Nation  held a sacred ceremony at the home of LaDonna Harris, a prominent Native Amercian activist, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

“When the request came in, I couldn’t believe it. It was an honor beyond all honors…” Depp says. “The name they chose for me, Mah-Woo-Meh, means shapeshifter, which I suppose is quite apt, and I take great pride in that choice.”

There was some initial controversy when Depp was originally cast for the role of Tonto as some believed a true Native American would have been given the part. Depp commented that the honor of becoming part of the tribe drove him to give a respectable performance.

Probably one of the most asked questions I get on the Facebook Page and our Ask us a Disney Question Section is “When is Free Disney World Dining?” When is it coming, what dates will it cover, and so on. While I would love to be able to give you an exact date most times Disney just springs it on everyone. It could be today, tomorrow or even a week from now.

Since partnering up with our friends at Destinations in Florida I was able to work out a special arrangement with them to get a Free Disney Dining List going to let you know when the next deal is becoming available.

All you need to do is signup on the link below and when Free Dining goes live we will let you know. As an added bonus if you book your next Disney Vacation with Destinations in Florida you will receive a special gift just for being a fan of Chip and Co!

Staying at the New & Improved Disneyland Hotel

DL

Disneyland Hotel – New And Improved!

Usually this just means new packaging. We’re often sold on things that are new and improved that are nothing more than a shining up of the previous product. I should note that I am calling Disneyland Hotel “New and Improved” on my own. To my knowledge Disney themselves haven’t referred to it that way. They will tell you they are a AAA 4-Diamond Award Hotel though… Which I would too, I suppose…

However, in the case of Disneyland Hotel it truly is new and improved with the same charm we’ve always known it to have. Disney truly went in and updated this hotel while maintaining the classic feel.

Disneyland Hotel has undergone major renovations this past few years. From the rooms, to new Suites and the pool. With very few exceptions, the new Disneyland Resort is fresh, fun and a blast to stay at. The first night we stayed in the room, my then 5 year old son went on a exploration of the room and found that when he turned a specific switch on the nightstand the mural on the wall behind us lit up with fireworks. Not only did this surprise us but he found that he could also make music play for us to go to sleep to, not that we could go to sleep after discovering this magic. Matter of fact, I’m pretty sure that we stayed up another hour to play with the fireworks and music. I’m not telling you the song that plays because you need to be surprised too!

Top 5 Underrated Disney World Attractions

land

Anyone planning a trip to Disney or who has been there before knows that are certain attractions that get a lot of attention and fill up the queues really quick. Therefore, some other Disney attractions that may not offer the latest technology or the biggest thrills sometimes get overlooked and are definitely underrated. This is unfortunate since some of Disney’s best secrets are underrated attractions. Therefore, I have compiled a list of Top 5 Underrated Disney World Attractions for you to check out on your next trip to Disney World!

1. Carousel of Progress-This attraction came from the mind of Walt Disney himself and was shown at the 1964 New York World’s Fair to raving reviews! Today, this show still runs in Tomorrowland at the Magic Kingdom and has the honor of being the longest running show in American theater! The Carousel of Progress is unique in that the theater rotates around to different stages where you get to see how progress and new inventions impacted daily life in the early twentieth century. This charming show is both educational and entertaining. It’s usually not at the top of many Disney guest to-do lists; but it definitely should be! All ages enjoy it and it gives us a glimpse into the mind of Walt Disney himself.
