Free or Inexpensive Activities and Events Around Walt Disney World

camp

Have you ever wondered if there are free or inexpensive activities and events around Walt Disney World? There are plenty of options for days you don’t have park tickets or things you can do after your day at the parks.

Here is a list of some free or inexpensive activities and events around Walt Disney World:

  • Movie Under the Stars– Complimentary movie screenings are available to guests staying at Walt Disney World Resort hotels. The location depends on your resort, but is either poolside, on the beach, or in the woods.
  • Horse-drawn Carriage Rides– You can take in a beautiful scenic landscape on a timeless journey. You can choose from 2 routes: Ride through the lush pine and cypress trees of Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, or travel along the charming pathways of Port Orleans — Riverside and the banks of the Sassagoula River. Carriages hold up to 4 adults (or 2 adults and 3 small children).

Disney’s Winter Summerland Miniature Golf Course

021

Each year we drive to Walt Disney World, we leave very early in the morning, like 4am! So going to the parks after a 10 hour drive is just not something that we like to do.  Instead, we try to do a Disney non park adventure on our arrival day.  In years past, we have tried different character meals for dinner and have explored Downtown Disney.  This year, when we received our travel documents, we noticed that there were 2 complementary passes for either Disney’s Fantasia Gardens Miniature Golf Course or Disney’s Winter Summerland Miniature Golf.  We were excited about trying something new and decided that this was what we were going to try this year.  With the 2 free passes, it was a great deal for our family.  It would only cost our family of 4,  $20 to experience a new Disney Adventure.

After looking over the 2 courses, we decided to try the Winter Summerland Miniature Golf Course.  And of course it would not be a Disney Attraction if they did not create a storyline to go along with the attraction.

Changes coming to Walt Disney World in 2013 and beyond

The Disney parks are planning for a Monstrous Summer and this includes renovations and expansions to the parks and resorts. Here is an update on what will be coming to Walt Disney World!

New Fantasyland is the largest expansion in Magic Kingdom history and although most of the area has opened, there is still one central part under construction- the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train roller coaster. This attraction will include both an indoor and outdoor track and swaying ride vehicles.

“I think it’s definitely going to add a dynamic, a lot of kinetic energy, which will be fun,” says new Walt Disney World President George Kalogridis. “I think of it as theater in the round,” says Mark Kohl, director of project management for the Fantasyland expansion. “Our guests will be able to walk 360 degrees around the coaster when it’s complete and experience it from all angles.”

The attraction is planned to slow down indoors and morph into a dark ride and then back into a roller coaster. “We’re going to take you inside this magical cave where millions of diamonds and gems are going to shine, and seven of our closest friends are all going to be hard at work in there,” Kohl says. The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is expected to open in the spring 2014.

We have several “Limited Time Magic” surprises to share with you, including details for a special celebration to officially welcome Merida, into the Disney Princess Royal Court. We broke the news last week.

As a part of “Limited Time Magic,” all 10 Disney Princesses will come together on May 11 in honor of their newest member, Merida, the heroine from Disney•Pixar’s film, “Brave” as the 11th Disney Princess character. The celebration begins at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom Park.

At the park, you’ll also be able to commemorate the occasion with a limited edition Merida-inspired T-shirt created for toddlers and youth, available at the Emporium inside Magic Kingdom Park while supplies last.

Before Merida’s royal celebration, Disney is kicking off a weeklong “Limited Time Magic” Fiesta at the Mexico Pavilion at Epcot.

Marvel’s ‘Iron Man 3’ Review

Iron Man 3

“Big man in a suit. Take that off, what are you?”, Captain America famously quips at Tony Stark in ‘The Avengers’. A throwaway line to some, but one that holds more significance than many originally imagined. Just what is Tony Stark without his suits? Is he really Iron Man, or is it that suit that makes him Iron Man? That line was just a hint of what we could expect from ‘Iron Man 3‘, Marvel Studio’s first film of their new Phase 2, and the first film following the mega blockbuster, ‘The Avengers’. Director Shane Black, who’s credits include writing the first two ‘Lethal Weapon’ films, as well as directing Robert Downey, Jr. in one of his comeback films, ‘Kiss Kiss Bang Bang’, decided to explore that very question, while sending Tony Stark through an emotional wringer that will change who he is, and how he sees himself, forever.

Following the events of ‘The Avengers’, Tony Stark finds his life is in dismay. He’s not sleeping, and he’s now realized he’s not the center of the universe, and in fact, he’s nothing compared to a man who turns into a monster, a Super Soldier, or a DemiGod. He’s confined himself to working on his suits, trying to make himself feel important and needed. But when an attack by the villainous leader, the Mandarin, hits too close to home, Stark finds himself on a revenge mission against the man who is causing fear across America.

No Wi-Fi or G.P.S in the Disney World Resort?

Hey there ladies and gentlemen. It’s me Anonymouse, yes I am back. You know you missed me!

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the parks, yes Chippy gave me a day off, and I was talking to a CM who gave me some inside info. He told me that Disney World currently has no Wi-Fi in the parks. Now I found that to be a bit odd because I have heard that there is Wi-Fi in the parks ( although I have never used it myself). I asked him if he was sure because I heard something different. He proceeded to tell me that there has been a ton of problems with the Wi-Fi, so they had to shut it down.

F.Y.I: I have had no problem using the Wi-Fi in the resorts.

He also told me that G.P.S. devices do not work in Disney World for the most part. This I can vouch for because I have had a not so magical time using my G.P.S. at Disney World.
