DISNEY CHANNEL ORDERS “I DIDN’T DO IT,” STARRING DISNEY XD STAR OLIVIA HOLT AND NEWCOMER AUSTIN NORTH

Disney Channel has ordered the comedy series “I Didn’t Do It” starring popular actress and recent Radio Disney Music Award winner Olivia Holt (Disney XD’s “Kickin’ It,” and the Disney Channel Original Movie “Girl Vs. Monster” for which she recorded the song “Had Me @Hello”) and newcomer Austin North (“A.N.T. Farm,” “Kickin’ It”), it was announced today by Adam Bonnett, Executive Vice President, Original Programming, Disney Channels Worldwide. The multi-camera series will begin production this summer in Los Angeles for a scheduled early 2014 premiere on Disney Channel.

In the series, ultra-competitive fraternal twins Lindy and Logan Watson, together with their four best friends navigate their freshman year of high school. Each episode begins with a comedic “what just happened?” situation as Lindy and Logan each spin their own vivid account of a certain occurrence or predicament. The series will utilize flashback scenes to tell the siblings’ unique stories.

Bonnett said, “We are looking forward to presenting our viewers with the humor, friendship and unexpected plot twists this unique sitcom offers by beginning each episode with the end of the story. We have assembled a top-notch creative team and cast of talented young actors with incredible comedic chemistry who already feel like they have been close friends since childhood.”

In addition to Holt and North, the series stars Piper Curda (“A.N.T. Farm”) as Jasmine, Sarah Gilman (“Last Man Standing”) as Delia and Peyton Clark as Garrett.

Walt Disney Animation Studios has selected three talented actors to join the voice cast in “Frozen.” Josh Gad (“The Internship,” “Love & Other Drugs,” Broadway’s “The Book of Mormon”) will lend his vocal talents as Olaf the snowman, Santino Fontana (Broadway’s “Cinderella,” “Brighton Beach Memoirs,” “Billy Elliot”) will join the film as the voice of Hans, and Alan Tudyk (“42,” “Wreck-It Ralph,” ABC’s “Suburgatory”)  will provide the voice of Duke of Weselton. This talented group of actors will co-star alongside Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, and Jonathan Groff in this epic adventure. The film is being directed by Chris Buck (“Tarzan,” “Surf’s Up”) and Jennifer Lee (screenwriter, “Wreck-It Ralph”), and produced by Peter Del Vecho (“Winnie the Pooh,” “The Princess and the Frog”). “Frozen” is scheduled to make its big screen debut November 27, 2013, and will be available in 3D in select theaters.

Gad will bring his personality and sense of humor to Olaf, who is a fun and lively snowman that joins Anna and Kristoff on their journey to save the kingdom. Gad is a veteran of the Groundlings Improv troupe and the founder of The Lost Nomads Comedy Troupe. He appears alongside Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson in “The Internship,” and has a guest-starring role in Fox’s “New Girl.”

Fontana will provide the voice of Anna’s handsome suitor Hans, who steps in to govern Arendelle when Anna takes off to find her sister. Fontana was seen on Broadway as Prince Charming in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella,” where he even received a Tony nomination.

Tudyk  will voice a prominent duke visiting Arendelle for a coronation ceremony. He is returning to the Walt Disney Animation Studios recording studio now having earned an Annie Award as the voice of King Candy in “Wreck-It Ralph.” Tudyk lent his vocal talents to a host of animated films, including three of the “Ice Age” films and “Alvin & the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked,” as well as “Robot Chicken” and “Family Guy.”

Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room Celebrates 50 Years

Walt at the Tiki Room
Walt at the Tiki Room

Walt at the Tiki Room

Sunday, June 23, will mark the 50th anniversary of the premiere of Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room, the world’s first Audio-Animatronics show and a place where the birds sing words and flowers croon with guests at the Disneyland Resort.

Inspiration for the Tiki Room came from Walt Disney’s earliest days of animated filmmaking, as he looked for a way to animate in three dimensions. He was fascinated by an antique, miniature mechanical songbird that he had purchased in New Orleans and thought if someone could animate this figure a century before, it should be possible to do it using modern technology.

The resulting Audio-Animatronics technology developed for the Enchanted Tiki Room would eventually lead to such iconic Disney theme park attractions as “Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln,” “it’s a small world,” Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion and others.

Some interesting facts about the historic Enchanted Tiki Room:

    • The cast of the Enchanted Tiki Room show features 225 animated singing birds, flowers and Tikis.
    • Eight macaws, six cockatoos, twelve toucans and nearly 30 other tropical birds join more than 50 orchids, seven bird-of-paradise flowers,12 Tiki Drummers and singing Tikis in the magical, musical show.
    • The Enchanted Tiki Room originally was the Adventureland seating area for the Plaza Pavilion restaurant, now the Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe. From 1955 to 1961, Plaza Pavilion seating occupied both Main Street, U.S.A., and Adventureland and the restaurant incorporated themes from both lands in its design. Part of the Adventureland dining area for Plaza Pavilion was also converted into the Tahitian Terrace restaurant, now Aladdin’s Oasis.
    • During the planning stages, the Enchanted Tiki Room itself was conceived as a restaurant with the birds, flowers and Tikis performing an after-dinner show.  There was even going to be a “birthday bird” that would be rolled out on a cart to sing for guests celebrating birthdays. After evaluating the challenges of combining the show with a restaurant operation, it was decided to make the Tiki Room a show only.
    • When the Enchanted Tiki Room premiered in 1963, not even an E-ticket could get you in. The attraction had its own special tickets, priced at 75 cents apiece.
    • “The Tiki Tiki Tiki Room” theme was composed by the Sherman Brothers, Richard and Robert, whose many Disney music credits include the Annette Funicello top ten hit “Tall Paul,” the “it’s a small world” theme and the Academy Award-winning score for “Mary Poppins.”
    • The Tiki Room show’s four hosts – Jose, Michael, Pierre and Fritz – were referred to as “MacAudios” in early publicity.
    • Jose is voiced by Disney legend Wally Boag, who performed at the Golden Horseshoe Revue. Michael is voiced by Irish tenor Fulton Burley, also of the Golden Horseshoe Revue. The voice of Pierre is Ernie Newton, who also created the voice of the singing knight in the Haunted Mansion. Deep-voice Thurl Ravenscroft voices both Fritz and, in The Enchanted Garden waiting area outside the Tiki Room, the Tiki god Tangaroa.  Outside of the Disney theme parks, Ravenscroft is known as the voice of Tony the Tiger.
    • The Tikis in the Enchanted Tiki Garden entry area to the Tiki Room represent gods and goddesses for various Pacific Island cultures, including:
        • Pele – Hawaiian fire goddess.
        • Tangaroa – Maori and Polynesian god of sea of sky, depending upon which culture is involved.
        • Maui – the Polynesian trickster god who slowed down time.
        • Rongo – Polynesian god of agriculture
        • Ngendei – from Fiji, the creator and head of all gods; every time he moves there is an earthquake
        • Hina Kaluua – Hawaiian mistress of rain
        • Tangaroa-ru – goddess of the east winds, which bring rain.
    • In 2005, Imagineers pulled the original audio source tapes from the vault and carefully restored the Enchanted Tiki Room soundtrack. They also installed new speakers and audio equipment in the attraction that produce a clear sound that surpasses fidelity limitations of the past.
    • “The Enchanted Tiki Room continues to delight thousands of guests every day, some 50 years after Walt originally introduced us to Jose, Michael, Pierre & Fritz,” said Jon Storbeck, vice president of Disneyland Park.

Monsters University Soundtrack Has Been Released

One of the most anticipated movies of the summer, Monsters University, is coming out this Friday, June 21, 2013. The Monsters University soundtrack was released by Walt Disney Records a few days early, on Tuesday, June 18, 2013.

Disney-Pixar’s “Monsters University” will feature music from award-winning composer Randy Newman along with Axwell & Sebastian Ingrosso of Swedish House Mafia. The film will also feature the band Mastodon serenading one the new monsters. Monsters University will follow the short film “The Blue Umbrella,” which features music by composer Jon Brion and vocals by Sarah Jaffe.

“We wanted to capture the college feel in ‘Monsters University,'” said Monsters University director, Scanlon, “and music is a big part of that. The score and the inclusion of other great musicians like Axwell & Sebastian Ingrosso [of Swedish House Mafia] and Mastodon help us convey a fun, freewheeling college atmosphere.”

Oscar- Grammy- and Emmy-winning composer/songwriter Newman is back, finishing his seventh Disney-Pixar film. The 20-time Oscar nominee’s wins include “If I Didn’t Have You” for “Monsters, Inc.” and “We Belong Together” for “Toy Story 3.” Newman was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He even created a full Alma Mater titled “Monsters University,” establishing a recurring collegiate theme.

“We recruited the team at Pixar Canada to record the Alma Mater,” said Scanlon. “We needed a giant crowd of crazy monster students to be singing it and the Canada team was great for this-the end result is sort of perfectly ‘off.’ Actually, The First Time we recorded it, it was really good. I had to say, ‘Guys, these are college students at a sporting event, let’s mess it up a little bit.'”

Newman added a unique part to his score by including international drum corps The Blue Devils in an effort to exemplify a collegiate sound. He also incorporated concert band music to contribute to the feeling of being in school.

Newman stated, “There’s a little bit of Brahms’ ‘Academic Festival Overture’ when Mike is riding the pig. I like to think Brahms would be extremely flattered by his inclusion in the score.”

The score was recorded with a 112-piece orchestra and chose to highlight different instruments for different characters. For example, an accordion tune is used to help illustrate the “less-than-cool status” of the Oozma Kappa fraternity, a laid-back shuffle to introduce Sulley, and Mike Wazowski is accompanied by a clarinet that changes as Mike’s character evolves.

Here are the songs features on the Monsters University soundtrack:
1. Main Title
2. Young Michael
3. First Day at MU
4. Dean Hardscrabble
5. Sulley
6. Scare Pig
7. Wasted Potential
8. Oozma Kappa
9. Stinging Glow Urchin
10. Field Trip
11. Rise and Shine
12. The Library
13. Roar
14. The Scare Games
15. Did You Do This?
16. Human World
17. The Big Scare
18. Goodbyes
19. Mike and Sulley
20. Monsters University

Subway and Disney Collaborate on Monsters University and The Lone Ranger

Subway and Disney are collaborating again to promote two upcoming movies, the highly anticipated Monsters University and The Lone Ranger. This month, Subway restaurants and The Walt Disney Company are celebrating one year of working together with the announcement of two additional movie integrations: “Monsters University” and “The Lone Ranger.”

Last year, Subway and Disney collaborated on films including “Brave,” “Frankenweenie” and “Wreck-It Ralph,” who was recently honored with “Best Promotional Campaign” for these movies at the 2013 Cynopsis Kids Imagination Awards.

Subway has become “The Official Training Restaurant for Monsters Everywhere” while working with Disney-Pixar for the upcoming release of “Monsters University” on June 21. Monsters will appear in Subway commercials all month long. Plus, all Subway Fresh Fit For Kids meals will come in a “Monsters University” reusable backpack. This “too cool for school” accessory even comes with the chance to win a free ticket to see Monsters University.

The upcoming action and adventure film, “The Lone Ranger,” premiers in theaters on July 3. Subway worked closely with Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer Films to create exclusive commercials featuring content from the film. In June and July, be sure to look for codes on specially marked Lone Ranger cups and avocado sandwich wrap stickers to gain free plays on the new “Partner Up And Win” game on www.subway.com. These codes give you the chance to win cash, rides, adventures, and more. You can also find playing codes through Subway social media channels, and by tweeting a photo with Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer standees found in Subway locations throughout the United States.

“Collaborating with Disney allows us to connect with kids and families in new ways,” said Michelle Cordial, Director of Marketing Development for SUBWAY(R) restaurants. “We are reinforcing to families the importance of healthy eating and the empowerment they get at Subway.”

Subway and Disney collaborate due to a shared value of family along with the importance of educating children on eating right and leading healthy, active lifestyles. Subway Fresh Fit for Kids meals, which include a low-fat sandwich paired with apple slices and low-fat milk or bottled water, offer a smarter choice for parents looking for a fresh, quick meal for their kids. All kids’ meals also have the American Heart Association’s Heart Check Meal certification. Lastly, the Center for Science in the Public Interest recently recognized Subway restaurants as the only chain to meet their standards for children’s meals.

“We are thrilled to continue our promotional collaboration with Subway on ‘Monsters University’ and ‘The Lone Ranger,'” said Don Gross, Vice President, Promotions, Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Marketing. “Disney’s focus on families and Subway’s range of healthy choices make a perfect pair, and together we can create a lot of fun and innovative opportunities for consumers.”

Monsters University Movie Review

MU Bleachers Online 1s w2.0
MU Bleachers Online 1s w2.0

Monsters University Poster

It’s been almost twelve years since we were introduced to monsters Mike and Sulley, the heroes of ‘Monsters, Inc.’. There was always rumblings of a sequel after the first film hit, but nothing seemed to come of it…Until now, and not in the way that some have expected. Instead of continuing from where ‘Monsters, Inc.’ left off, Pixar has decided to go back in time to when our heroes meet for the first time, back in their college days, where they were rivals. Of course, viewers already know how the two characters will end up, but seeing their friendship come together, and the events that transpire to get them there, is half the fun. The film is part ‘Revenge of the Nerds’ and ‘Animal House’, while also being part ‘Dead Poets Society’, but Pixar style. Featuring an excellent cast, headlined by returning stars John Goodman and Billy Crystal, ‘Monsters University‘ isn’t quite the movie some were expecting, and that’s a good thing.

Ever since Mike Wazowski was little, he wanted nothing more to be a scarer at Monsters, Incorporated. It was his dream, so when he finally gets his chance to go to college and study to become a scarer, he jumps at the chance. But what Mike wasn’t expecting was to meet the lazy and cocky monster, James P. Sullivan, also known as Sulley. But when their futures become muddled and unclear, the two must work together to make sure they reach their goals, to secure their futures, while unknowingly becoming best friends.

The thing that makes ‘Monsters University’ so good, is the humor and heart that the film has, much like the first. Telling the story of the characters in college though really let Pixar explore an area they had never explored before.  The setting has really given Pixar a chance to run wild with crazy college antics, creating things like over the top sororities, insane parties, and crazy rush games. One of the highlights of the film is the different sorority games that all the monsters are involved in. They’re just so insane and hilarious, they show just how inventive the team at Pixar is. The library game, which you briefly see in the trailer, may be the best of the bunch, because it’s truly the most fun and inventive. The added bonus of a giant monster that looks similar to Cthulhu makes is just icing on the cake. On top of all the witty college comedy though, Pixar has managed to make a film that is brimming with heart. Mike and Sulley’s journey to become Scarers at Monsters, Inc. really drives the film. Everyone who ever went to college knows the challenges it creates, especially when it comes to it deciding your future, so that story really hits home. The fact that Mike is willing to go to the extent he is, just to make sure he becomes a scarer, is incredible, and it makes his character’s journey even more amazing. He comes so far, and the way that all of his story wraps up, is not in the normal way you may be expecting, which ultimately makes the film all the better for it. It’s actually refreshing seeing a studio take the chance they did with the story, because many wouldn’t go the route Pixar does here. It just shows how far they’re willing to go to  really tug on heart strings and give characters a satisfying journey.

But really, the film’s biggest asset is the cast and characters that they have inhabiting this universe. John Goodman and Billy Crystal are so good in their roles of Sulley and Mike, respectively, that you wouldn’t have known over a decade had passed since they last got to play the characters. While, at their core, the characters are the ones we know and love, Goodman gets the chance to play Sulley just a bit different than before, with a cocky side that the character didn’t really have in the first film. He’s the popular guy in school who gets by on his family name, and Goodman is so good playing the character that way. Crystal has never been better as Mike, and he gets to play the character with so much wide eye wonder and optimism, it makes his character feel so different. He really wants to fight for his dreams and future, and he won’t let anything stand in his way, and Crystal really brings that to life.

The cast is rounded out by some stellar talent, including Helen Mirren, Alfred Molina, Nathan Fillion, Charlie Day, Sean Hayes, and many more, including Steve Buscemi, who returns as Randall Boggs. Pixar always manages to hire top talent, and that’s no exception here. Each of the supporting actors really brings these characters to life, creating some truly memorable supporting players. Fillion, Mirren, and Day all really standout amongst the best of the bunch, mostly because their characters have so much to do throughout the film. Mirren especially is creepy and wonderful as Dean Hardscrabble. She’s such an interesting character, and Mirren plays the character brilliantly. She’s a natural at voice acting, so it would be great to see her do more voice work later.

‘Monsters University’ proves that regardless of Pixar returning to their franchises of yesteryear, they still have what it takes to make a great movie. Full of heart, humor, and great characters, the movie soars to great heights, becoming an excellent companion piece to the first film. The cast is excellent, and with some great nods and cameos from characters from the first film, ‘Monsters University’ reminds us all just why we loved this world to begin with. This is a perfect family film, and it comes absolutely highly recommended. Definitely go see this film.

“Boy Meets World” Sequel Girl Meets World Coming To Disney Channel

SABRINA CARPENTER, ROWAN BLANCHARD

The “Boy Meets World” sequel will be coming to the Disney Channel! The Disney Channel has picked up comedy pilot for the Girl Meets World series.

Disney has been working hard to get the show ready to air on the Disney Channel schedule since November when the news was first leaked, and sparking a lot of interest from fans. Girl Meets World will co-star the original series’ Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel. The show was created by the same Boy Meets World creators, Michael Jacobs and April Kelly, and is executive produced by Jacobs.

The premise is similar to Boy Meets World, which centered on Cory Matthews (Ben Savage) and his best friend Shawn Hunter (Rider Strong) while they navigated sixth grade with some assistance from their longtime teacher George Feeny (William Daniels). As the title implies, Girl Meets World switches the perspective from male to female. The show will focus on Cory and Topanga’s daughter Riley Mathews (Rowan Blanchard) who is a curious and bright 7th grader as well as her her quick-witted best friend Maya (Sabrina Carpenter) while they embark on an unforgettable middle school experience. In Girl Meets World, Riley’s dad is their new history teacher and her mom owns a trendy after-school hangout that specializes in pudding. Mr. Feeny will also be back in Girl Meets World.

“Girl Meets World is a new show for a new generation that will be rooted in the same kind of honest, comedic storytelling about coming of age and the importance of family and friendship that made Boy Meets World so popular,” Jacobs said.

Production on the Girl Meets World series will begin this summer in Los Angeles and is scheduled for a 2014 premiere on the Disney Channel.

Disney World costume designer arrested in sex sting

373633 106657338416 225595545 n 4

A Disney World costume designer and forty other people have been arrested in a sex sting targeting child predators in Polk County, Florida.

During a week-long operation, deputies arrested 41 suspects who were looking to have sex with kids. This was the largest operation in Polk county’s history.

Of the forty-one suspects, there were 40 men and one woman. All of the suspects responded to fake ads posted by undercover detectives posing as minors on the web sites Craigslist and Backpage.

According to Sheriff Grady Judd, the suspects participated in graphic conversations with the detectives, and eventually agreed to meet up with the “kids.” Deputies hid in the decoy house, waiting to arrest each person who walked in.

“We had those who brought condoms. Those who brought handcuffs. Those who brought padded handcuffs…” said Sheriff Judd. “One even arrived with chicken nuggets.”

A notable suspect is James Walker, who is a Disney World costume designer. Investigators reported that Walker came to the decoy house twice. The first time he got scared by sheriff’s deputies working a burglary nearby.

“He was so intrigued, he came back later. And those were his words,” Judd said.

Each of the 41 suspects will have a day in court, but as far as Sheriff Grady Judd is concerned, 41 child predators are no longer on the streets.

“Despite the fact our detectives have conducted nine of these operations since 2006; despite the extensive media coverage when we talk about the numerous arrests; despite the fact we make no secret about putting suspects in jail — there are those who continue to travel to Polk County to have sex with a child,” said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd. “Make no mistake; we will continue to make protecting our children our No. 1 priority. We will continue to conduct these investigations, and we will continue to arrest those who would travel to Polk County to harm children.”
