Doc McStuffins and Sofia the First

You may have heard that 2 of Disney Junior’s most loved characters, Doc McStuffins and Sofia from “Sofia the First,” have been making appearances at Disney Junior Play ‘n Dine at Hollywood & Vine in Hollywood Studios.

At the Disney Junior Play ‘n’ Dine, kids will have the chance to meet some of the favorites like, Doc, Sofia, Handy Manny and Jake. This is a really fun experience for the little ones. They play music during special musical moments throughout breakfast and lunch and the kids are invited to  join the fun with their favorite characters.

They have added some new musical moments. Now your little ones can jam to their favorite songs from their favorite shows like, “Doc McStuffins” and “Sofia the First.” The Play Pals get everyone up and moving. Don’t worry they still play your classic favorites like, the “Hot Dog Song” from “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse,” “Talk Like a Pirate,” and some of your other faves.

Disney Theatrical Productions will be adding school versions of The Lion King to Music Theater International’s Broadway Junior Collection. The Lion King Jr. and The Lion King KIDS will be licensed only to accredited elementary and middle schools. Starting in May, schools will be able to sign up for the program, which will be available in 2015.

The Lion King Jr. is a 60-minute musical and The Lion King Kids is a 30-minute musical.

Each school who receives a license will get teaching materials to help students learn. The Lion King Jr. and The Lion King Kids teaching materials will also include costume and scene design.

“I am thrilled we can provide the Jr. and Kids versions of The Lion King to students around the globe for the very first time,” said Thomas Schumacher, producer and president of Disney Theatrical Productions, in a statement. “The entire creative team of The Lion King got started in the theater as children and those early experiences went on to inform our collective careers, so we are excited to be able to extend the legacy of the stage to the next generation of theater makers and theatergoers.”

Toddler and Preschool Disney World Planning Tips

toddler
toddler

toddler

It can be done! Not only can you plan a successful trip to the Most Magical Place on Earth with a toddler or small child in tow, you can have fun doing it!  I’ve been on  trips to Disney World with children ages 8 weeks through teenage years.  When planning a trip with the tiniest  family members in mind, following some tips discussed in this article will help you have the most magical experience possible.

First is the pre-planning stage

Bring out the Disney movies!!  Play them in the car, or listen to Disney CDs.  Even the youngest Disney fans will recognize the characters and learn the songs.

When planning a trip when my youngest daughter was two I purchased the Disney sing-along DVDs.  The great thing about these is that they feature the actual characters singing with actual children.  By watching these before they will know what size to expect the characters to be.  When they see a gigantic Chip and Dale they will be less likely to freak out and more likely to walk right up!  Do know that these DVDs are a bit dated in clothing and hairstyle, but my kids do not even notice.  They just see Disney!

Another thing to do is get the children involved in the planning.  We make countdown charts or paper chains as a family.  Even toddlers will look forward to taking down a countdown each day and it helps with the “how long until we leave?” question.

Another great thing to do is make a “Disney Box”.  Ours is a wicker basket in my closet.  When we come across any Disney stickers, coloring books, or travel items we throw them in.  The kids and I have a great time filling up our box with treasures!

Second is the planning phase

Plan your park days.  Plan what attractions  your children might want to experience and what attractions you or your spouse might like.  You can order maps of the parks off the Disney web site.  These are beautiful and FREE!

Plan downtime!  If your young children usually nap at a certain time it may be beneficial for you to go back to the room and nap during the day.  Chip discusses this and more park tips in the article about toddler trips here.

Plan resort/pool days if time allows.  Sometimes (crazy enough!) a young child’s favorite part of the trip was the resort or the pool.  My family enjoys this down time in the middle of a crazy week!

Next is the packing phase

Get the kids involved!  Toddler and preschool age children usually have favorite clothing items.  Let them have a say in some of the things to pack and let them pick a few favorite stuffed animals or small toys.

Pack entire outfits into a gallon ziplock bag.  This should include underwear, outfit, socks, and if the child is a girl a ponytail and bow if they wear them.  This cuts out the “What to wear today” debate.  I even write the day of the week or “extra”  on each bag.  In the morning I tell the kids “go grab a bag!”  No fussing!

A Disney World trip can certainly be a magical experience for the entire family, from the tall to the small starting with planning and preparation.  These are just a few examples of the many ways to plan for families with toddler or preschool age children.  What are some of your favorite tips or planning tricks not mentioned?

“Full House” Stars Reunite

Full House

A few of the “Full House” stars have reunited but not for a reunion show. They have reunited for a Super Bowl Commercial. The Super Bowel which airs February 2nd will have a mini reunion of sorts with some of the “Full House” cast.

Bob Saget, Dave Coulier, and John Stamos will be appearing in a Dannon Oikos Yogurt Commercial during the huge T.V. sports event.

I am sure you remember “Full House”, it was a really popular sitcom from around 1987 to 1995. In case you don’t here is a little refresher: Bob Saget played a single dad of 3 girls who lost his wife and had his friends/roommates help him out.

Here is little teaser:

What do you think? I think it’s cute and funny.

Top 10 Must Do’s For Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party at the Magic Kingdom

Halloween is one of my most favorite Holidays.  One of my most favorite ways of celebrating is attending Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party.  Although it costs extra to attend, it is very worth it.  From the special shows and dance parties to trick or treating all over the Magic Kingdom, here are some tips and tricks to make the most of the party.

10. Get there early! I have arrived at 2 P.M. to pick up my ticket, receive my wrist band, and to get a map.  Make sure you allow yourself enough time to do so.  Enjoy some of the rides and attractions before the party officially begins. And trust me, you will know what time it does. I do not want to spoil the surprise, but it’s a very fitting way to get the party started. Another tip is just doing the party on the day of the party. Not only will it save money and days on a ticket, but you can rest up and relax to enjoy the party!

9. Ride the Haunted Mansion! This may be a given, but guests are treated to some special features including apparitions of residents in the Cemetery, to Ghost hosts who also dress the part. This is one of my most favorite “Make Over’s” to the Haunted Mansion. For added effect, ride at night!

8. Attend the second parade! The first parade is traditionally the most crowded as it is getting close to some children’s bed time, so they attend the first. If you can stay longer and the kids can too, the second parade is a must. Use the gap time to ride some of the rides or meet with the characters. Believe it or not, the lines may be a lot shorter since everyone else is at the parade!

7. Attend the Shows and Dance Parties! These are unique to the party and should not be missed! Consult your map for show and dance party times. They are done multiple times throughout the night, with the later ones having the best spots available and least crowded. My personal favorite is the Club 626 which features Stich and a host of other characters. I also enjoy the Castle Stage show which features a rare opportunity to mix and mingle with the Villains!

6. The fireworks!!!! This party has an amazing special fireworks show only seen by party guests! It features fireworks to some traditional Halloween music such as    “Grim Grinning Ghosts” and “the Midnight ride of Paul Revere”.  For a great vantage point, pick a spot early, preferably on Main Street.

5. Take time to meet and greet characters!!!!!  This is a rare opportunity to meet all 7 Dwarfs at one time, as well as see the characters in their Halloween Finest. I would use the time during the first parade to greet the characters because the lines are usually shorter during this time!

4. Get your merchandise early!!!!! Many people wait until the end of the party, only to find out the shirt they really wanted is sold out or worse, the shop is closed!  Make sure you get your merchandise early and if the particular item you want is out, check with the other locations. Your map will point out all merchandise outlets and what they carry!

3. Save the Trick or Treating to the end!  Why you may ask?  Because Cast members LOVE to dump large amounts of Candy at the end of the Night! It’s also fun to follow the guide map to the various locations! There are also some unique experiences at certain stops.

2. This is a big one, especially if you have allergies or diet restrictions! You can turn in your candy and trade it for special treats and trinkets just for you! Just head over to City Hall and tell them your restrictions and they will ask for your candy, and in return, give you safe, allergy and special diet treats!

1.  The Sweets! Yes that’s right… Sweets! Special Treats are everywhere! From special cupcakes and cookies, everybody is sure to find a way to sweeten your sweet tooth! Some are even unique to the Party.

And here is my biggest secret tip of all: Wear a costume!!! It is so much fun to dress up and visit the Magic Kingdom. It’s also a great conversation starter and a way to keep up with your party. I do however, recommend dressing to the weather and make sure it is “Disney Appropriate”. I have seen adults turned away for inappropriate costumes. Also for children, make sure their costumes do not drag. I have seen many kids trip because their costumes were too long! I recommend pins to pin the hem up. Also comfortable shoes! There is a lot of walking!

I had a blast at the Party and it is definitely one of the must do’s when it is occurring…..which is typically Early September to right after Halloween itself! The ticket prices fluctuate based on time of the year and its proximity to Halloween. I recommend purchasing your tickets as soon as they go on sale as to not be disappointed to find out that it is sold out!  I hope you enjoyed this look at my must do’s and I hope you have a Magical day
