Counter Service At Disney’s Animal Kingdom – Where To Grab A Quick Bite

AK Quick Service
AK Quick Service

AK Quick Service

I recently wrote about where you can grab some counter service grub at the Magic Kingdom, and today I wanted to head over to Animal Kingdom for a bite and take a look at what they have to offer for quick service locations:

Tamu Tamu Refreshments: This Africa spot is small, but it serves breakfast – Ham egg and cheese flatbread, fruit, yogurt parfait, and coffee (the most important part of any breakfast) are all on the menu, while lunch and dinner options here are a chicken or vegetable curry dish served with rice, or a roasted chicken salad. There’s a nice little outdoor seating area tucked away behind the counter that not many people know about, so definitely check that out and you might just get to enjoy a tranquil, quiet meal while the Park bustles around you

Yak and Yeti Local Food Cafes: Since this dining location is in Asia, it makes sense that they would serve up some yummy Asian dishes for lunch and dinner – the honey chicken is a favorite here, as are the egg rolls, and they also offer an Asian chicken sandwich and Mandarin Chicken salad. Enjoy your food at the adjacent courtyard with a bunch of outdoor seating and some shaded tables, and it has a nice fountain too!

Restaurantosaurus: A place like this can only be located at AK’s Dinoland USA! This spot offers menu items like burgers, chicken, and hot dogs – which might make it extremely popular with your picky eater! Oh and they serve alcohol – which might make it extremely popular with the adults too. There’s a lot of seating inside the restaurant, and the theming here is great too – the building was taken over by the grad students and paleontologists that are studying the dinosaurs – and there are tons of props and details to see and enjoy while eating

Flame Tree BBQ: Discovery Island is home to this delicious lunch and dinner spot, which taunts you with its mouth-watering smells and practically begs you to come and enjoy some awesome BBQ. St. Louis style ribs and rotisserie chicken are the winners here – and you can even try them both with a combo platter! Pork and turkey sandwiches are also available, as well as a smoked chicken salad and some kid friendly options too (PB & J, hot dog, etc). There’s mostly outdoor seating here, some is covered by a canopy but most of it is out in the open – so hopefully the weather cooperates and you can enjoy your chicken rain-free

Pizzafari: Head over to Discovery Island for a hot breakfast menu – including a bounty platter, breakfast Panini, and spinach and cheese frittata. Lunch offers mainly – you guessed it – PIZZA – cheese, veggie, and pepperoni versions are available here in both kids and adult sizes, as well as breadsticks, and a few salads/sandwich options too. There are plenty of indoor seats here – grouped into several beautifully decorated rooms, so take some time and explore the different animals and colors – its quite the sight!

I hope this can help you figure out where to eat when next time you’re at Animal Kingdom and hunger hits! Stay tuned right here on Chip and co – as I will be talking about even more places to grab a quick bite in the World!

Birds Eye veggies and The Walt Disney Company are working together to get kids in the US  to eat more veggies. It is titled  The Veggin’ In LA With Laura Marano Sweepstakes presented by Birds Eye. They want to show kids that eating veggies can be fun and cool.

The sweepstakes will end September 24. The grand prize is a trip to Los Angeles to “veg out” and you will get a private dinner party with Laura Marano, You may recognize her as the star of the Disney Channel show “Austin and Ally”

Statistics say 9 out of 10 children don’t eat the recommended amount of fruits and veggies. So they want to show kids that eat a good amount veggies and not only good but good for them as well.

“We can’t wait to start the sweepstakes and get kids excited about vegetables one bite at a time,” explained Mike Barkley, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Birds Eye. “The collaboration between Birds Eye and Disney is a perfect fit, as we’re both fully committed to children’s wellness and improving the vegetable consumption in this country.”

The sweepstakes is part of Birds Eye’s “Step Up To The Plate” campaign. They are dedicated to encouraging kids to try new veggies, while helping parents find different ways to prepare veggies. The sweepstakes also supports the Disney “Magic of Healthy Living” which works with parents and helps to inspire kids to live a healthier lifestyle.

You can go to Disney.com/veggies and input a UPC from any Birds Eye product to enter. Fans can also enter online without the UPC or by sending the keyword “VEGGIES” via text to 347639 (Disney).

Disney World Vacation Planning: My Disney Experience App for Smart Phones

As an Orlando local, I use the My Disney Experience app on a daily basis.  It is the perfect way to take your Disney World vacation planning to fit your actual vacation.  Enjoy a little more information about the My Disney Experience App.

Here are my 5 favorite reasons to use the My Disney Experience App:

#5 Book Dining Reservations:  Booking even a simple dining reservation by phone can take over 30 minutes with Disney Dining.  They always ask a bunch of questions, before they even check on availability.  Instead, hop on the My Disney Experience app and search for your favorite dining.  As an Orlando local, I use this technique to book dining reservations all of the time!

#4 Park Hours:  On a regular basis, we will be at Epcot and decide we want to head over to Magic Kingdom or Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  We can always find a Cast Member to find us the info OR I can quickly hop on the My Disney Experience to search the park hours.  It just takes minutes!

#3 Check on Wait Times:  You can quickly hop on the My Disney Experience app to check wait times at the parks.  If you just got off Space Mountain and want to hit Thunder Mountain, you can hop on the my Disney Experience app to see the wait time.

#2 Change a FastPass+ Time:  This is one of my favorites with the My Disney Experience.  Just because you got a set time for a ride or attraction, it does not mean you have to stick to it.  You can hop on the My Disney Experience app and change the time.   As a local, I got into this process all of the time to schedule my FastPass+ reservations to go one hour after the other.  That way, I do not have a lot of down time between rides.

#1 Book Your FastPass+ Reservations:  As I mentioned in the video, I love this part of the app.  Most people book all of your FastPass+ reservations for your whole stay at home.  What if you decide you are enjoying the resort and do not want to leave the pool?  You can just hop on the My Disney Experience app and update your reservations, right from the pool.

New Move it! Shake It! Dance & Play It! Street Party Debuts this fall

Dance

The “Move It! Shake It! Celebrate It!” Street Party has been around since 2009 delighting guests in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. This fall Disney is kicking things up a notch with new music, new characters, and a new way for you to be part of the show! With all the changes Disney decided to give the parade a new name – “Move it! Shake It! Dance & Play It!” Street Party.

According to Disney the fun begins on Main Street, U.S.A., as a high-energy party anthem heralds the arrival of favorite Disney characters – including new additions Stitch and Phineas & Ferb – who parade toward Cinderella Castle as the emcee, stilt walkers, and the rest of their party peeps encourage everyone to join in.

Things heat up in the Central Plaza when hosts Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy appear atop giant gift boxes, leading everyone in a medley of remixed classic party songs. Once you’ve moved it, shaken it, and danced it, it’s time to help decide what comes next, as you vote for one of three current hits during the “Play It!” part of the show. You never know which way it might go!

The “Move it! Shake It! Dance & Play It!” Street Party will be presented several times daily, starting this fall. In the meantime, you can still enjoy the “Move It! Shake It! Celebrate It!” Street Party each day at Magic Kingdom Park.

Elf Disney Princess Makeup Review

Group 2 Ariel
Group 2 Ariel

Ariel Beauty Collection

This summer Disney in collaboration with E.L.F. cosmetics, Soho, and Ardell released an Ariel and Snow White beauty collection. The collection featured E.L.F. makeup, Soho makeup bags, and Ardell lashes.

These 2 princess collections really were beautiful. The Ariel collection featured warm tropical colors with a sizzling summer vibe, and the Snow White collection featured strong base tones with a sultry European vacation feel. The Ariel collection had quite a bit to offer, Nail Polishes, a nail art kit, hair accessories, lashes, bags, a bronzer, lip set, eye set, and of course the Beauty Book. The Snow White collection had a lot of the same offerings, except there was a beauty powder instead of bronzer, and no nail polishes or art kits. All of this and more is available exclusively at Walgreen’s for $4.99- $7.99 while supplies last. (See below for pictures of all the sets.)  I really wanted to get every single item in the collection, but I had to think better of it and get the makeup colors that would be best suited for me. Afters ome I decided to go with the Ariel Eye Collection, and the Snow White Beauty Book. As much as I loved the Ariel Beauty Book, it wasn’t made for my porcelain skin tones, however Snow White was perfect, go fig right?

The princess goodies.
The princess goodies.

The pigments of these eye shadows are absolutely incredible. The price point for the makeup sets start at $4.99 and max out at $9.99 for the multi product beauty book. These shadows had richer pigmentation and better staying power than many high end designer makeup brands I’ve tried. All of the shadows in both collections are a glitter shadow.

arielupclose2

The “Under the Sea Eyes” from Ariel contained 2 duo shadows, and a felt tipped black eye liner. The teal on the “High Tide” duo was so intense it took a few applications of makeup remover to come clean. These shadows had richer pigmentation and better staying power than many high end designer makeup brands I’ve tried. The colors go on easily, and you can build them up as much as you like. The eye pencil was pretty flawless at making a perfect winged tip. You do have to shake the eye liner a bit to get the color flowing sometimes though.

Ariel "Under the Sea Eyes" swatches. From Left to Right High Tide Duo and Coral Reef Duo.
Ariel “Under the Sea Eyes” swatches. From Left to Right High Tide Duo and Coral Reef Duo.

As  you can see from the swatches they are a high glitter shadow with very vibrant colors. I was very impressed with the teal and deep purple colors. I wore these for a day at the beach and still had SEAsational eyes when I returned home. Very little smudging or fall out occurred.

Snow White Beauty Book "The Fairest of Them All"
Snow White Beauty Book “The Fairest of Them All”

The Snow White Beauty Book, titled “The Fairest of Them All” was a complete set of makeup essentials. The book contains a mirror stylized after the Evil Queen’s mirror mirror, and when flipped open has a handy tutorial for a perfectly once upon a time look. The makeup inside features 7 glitter shadows, 1 eye primer, a black eye pencil, a shadow brush, a blush, blush brush, and lip gloss.

opensnowbook2

The shadows were just as impressive as the Ariel Eye set, with some bolder additions. The white “I’m Wishing” makes for a great replacement to Urban Decay’s “Polyester Bride” if needed as well. Only one shadow didn’t wow me, and it was the ‘Diamond Mine”, while it is a nice shadow the gold just didn’t stand up to the beauty of the gold from the “High Tide” Ariel duo. The eye pencil and shadow brush seemed a bit like a toss in and wasn’t anything jaw dropping. I was a bit disappointed considering the Ariel Beauty Book came with a gorgeous high quality shadow brush. The blush has a wonderful translucent shimmer to give you a Snow White rosy glow, with out coming off to pink.

Shadows from left to right: My Prince, Heigh-Ho, Enchanted Forest, Diamond Mine, One song, I'm Wishing, and Yodel.
Shadows from left to right: My Prince, Heigh-Ho, Enchanted Forest, Diamond Mine, One song, I’m Wishing, and Yodel.

My favorite part of this book was the lip gloss. The gloss was a stunning sheer red, that had a touch of shimmer but still gave a sophisticated look. There’s a bit of a pinkish hue to it that keeps things playful and youthful, but it is great for any age. It had a nice amount of staying power, and I only needed to reapply after eating. I wish this one was sold separately because I would love to stock up on it.

 snowwhitelip

I felt that not only was everything in this collection extraordinary, but an amazing value with nothing topping more than $9.99. If you love makeup and cosmetics and haven’t checked these products out, I really suggest you do! These Beauty collections really pulled out all the stops, and I’m hoping for another Villains collection this fall, like they did last year. If you are curious about the rest of the collection, there’s photos below of many of them. (Not pictures are the Makeup bags, Ariel Bronzer, Snow White Beauty Powder, and Ariel Brushes.)

More than 50 villains will invade Disney’s Hollywood Studios on August 23rd as part of the park’s new, separately ticketed event, “Villains Unleashed.” We have a first look at the new Guidemaps from the event.

villains2

Here are more details from the event:

  • Hades Hangout – The party kicks off at 8 p.m. at the main event stage, where hosts Hades, Megara, Pain and Panic are killing ‘em with comedy. They’re joined throughout the night by the Underworld Dancers, DJ Igg Nite, live music from Bernie Briquette and Brimstone, and a rogues gallery of roaming rottens, from the Queen of Hearts and Sheriff of Nottingham to the Big Bad Wolf and Captain Hook.
  • Villains Dominion – For this one special night, the Streets of America area of the park will be swarming with baddies. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to meet favorites like Cruella De Vil, Jafar, Dr. Facilier and Gaston, along with more rarely seen baddies such as Shan Yu from “Mulan,” Bowler Hat Guy from “Meet the Robinsons,” or Captain Gantu and Dr. Hämsterviel from “Lilo & Stitch: The Series.” In addition to these dedicated villain encounters, you may spot even more wandering evildoers in the area. Look for Judge Claude Frollo, Lady Tremaine, Anastasia, Drizella, and more!
  • The Dark Side – During “Villains Unleashed,” the area around Star Tours – The Adventures Continuebecomes a wretched hive of scum and villainy, the place to find nefarious bounty hunter Boba Fett, Sith apprentice Darth Maul, and the ultimate villain – Darth Vader! And that’s not all! Wandering the area, you’ll stumble upon more malcontents from that galaxy far, far away: Zam Wessel, Aurra Sing, Asajj Ventress, Jango Fett, Greedo, Jawas, and others.
  • Villainous Encounters – Visit Stage 4 (where The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow attraction is seen during the day), and you can “Parlay” with the one and only Hector Barbossa. And just around the corner in the Animation Courtyard is where you’ll discover a bit of the Moors, where you can have an audience with the mistress of all evil, Maleficent!
  • Oogie Boogie’s Freaky Funhouse Show – Over on Sunset Boulevard, Theater of the Stars presents a production of extreme performances, hosted by the original master of scare-monies, Oogie Boogie. It’s an all-new show that’s sure to thrill!
  • Fantasmic! – Strolling up Sunset Boulevard, a gang of villainous henchmen, known as the Night Crawlers, tempt you to join them for a special pre-show to the evening’s performance of Fantasmic!, itself a celebration of the power and intrigue of some of the greatest Disney villains.
  • “Villainy in the Sky” Fireworks – Ultimately, Hades summons Maleficent to the main event stage to close things out with a devilishly dazzling display of pyrotechnics!

And there’s more! You can get a Villains ExScream Makeover with complimentary face painting at stations around Echo Lake, join in on one of the dance parties taking place in the park, and enjoy a wicked cabaret atmosphere – not to mention some delectable, small-plate menu items – at Club Evil in the Hollywood Brown Derby.
