Top 10 Reasons Disney World is the Ultimate Vacation Destination

Ultimate Vacation Destination
Ultimate Vacation Destination

Disney World Ultimate Vacation Destination

Walt Disney World has be delighting visitors for over 40 years and it’s no wonder guests keep going back for more!  Walt Disney World is probably one of the most well known family vacation destinations on the planet and here are my top 10 reasons why it is really the ultimate vacation destination!

10.  The attractions are so innovative and unexpected.  Of course there are classics like Peter Pan’s Flight and Dumbo that have remained true to their original design, but the new attractions are utilizing technology you’ve got to see to believe!  From the new Seven Dwarf Mine Train at Magic Kingdom to Soarin’ over California at Epcot the attractions at Walt Disney World are the best in the world!

9. The Shopping.  I always make sure to bring extra spending money with me to Walt Disney World because they offer park only merchandise that you can’t find anywhere else.  From the little shops on Main Street USA in Magic Kingdom to the massive World of Disney store in Downtown Disney there is something for every taste, personality and style.

8.  They sure know how to throw a party!  Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas party are super fun “after hours” events that are sure to delight guests of all ages.  These special ticketed events are offered select nights in the September and October (MNSSHP) and November and December (MVMCP) and allow guests with tickets a chance to experience rare character meet and greets, specials snacks and treats, one 0f a kind entertainment and the chance for guests of all ages to don their favorite costume and really get into the Disney spirit!

7.  The festivals.  In the spring experience Epcot’s International Flower and Garden Festival featuring incredible topiaries and delicious food and drinks available at Outdoor Kitchens around the World Showcase.  In the fall, the Food and Wine festival at Epcot is the prefect way to spend a day as you sample dishes and beverages (both adult and for all ages) from around the world.  And the best part – you can visit both of these festivals with just a general admission ticket.

6.  The parades and evening entertainment are awesome!  From the Main Street Electrical Parade and Wishes to Fantasmic to Illuminations  the evening parades, fireworks and spectaculars are the things dreams are made of!  From costumes to soundtracks to special effects Disney leaves nothing on the table when it comes to putting on evening show sure to please everyone.

5.  The entertainment is top-notch!  I love the shows and parades created for Walt Disney World. And I’m not just talking about the main attractions.  The little street shows that pop up at Hollywood Studios are so fun and catching a performance of the Dapper Dan’s at Magic Kingdom is something every Disney guest should get to experience once.

4.  There is always something new to discover.  Walt himself said that the parks would “never be finished.” And while he was talking about Disneyland, that same principal has been applied at Disney World.  The Imagineers are always looking for way to keep the parks fresh and new.  Every trip will be different thanks to the new things always being added.

3.  It’s family friendly.  Disney really is the perfect family destination – no matter what your family looks like.  There are things for guests of all ages from 1 to 99!  It is the perfect destination for a multi-generational vacation or even a trip just for Mom and Dad!

2.  The Food!  From amazing signature dining experiences such as Narcoossee’s at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa to character meals for the young (and young at heart) like Chef Mickey’s at Disney Contemporary Resort there is something for everyone!  Even the quick services options for a fast bite are wonderful.  My favorites include Flame Tree Barbeque (Disney’s Animal Kingdom) and Sunshine Seasons (Epcot).  And the snacks – who can forget the snacks!  Cupcakes, ice cream, dole whips and more await at Disney World.

1.  And the number one reason – it is a total experience.  From the moment you enter the Walt Disney World Resort you feel like you are in another world.  From the resorts to restaurants to the parks themselves, Disney World certainly puts the “theme” in theme park!

There is so much to see, do, eat and experience at the Walt Disney World Resort that it’s not hard to see why it is the Ultimate Vacation Destination!

Are you ready to plan the Ultimate Vacation to Walt Disney World?  I’d LOVE to help you.  I am a Travel Magician with World of Magic Travel, the preferred agency of Chip and the Disney Addicts. “The Science Behind Pixar” Premieres at the Museum of Science

This summer, visitors to the Museum of Science in Boston will get a chance to check out the science and technology behind some of best animated films, with the world premiere of The Science Behind Pixar. This interactive 10,000 square foot exhibition shows the science, technology, engineering, and math concepts used by the artists and computer scientists that help bring Pixar’s award-winning films to the big screen.

“Throughout the exhibition, visitors will engage in hands-on, screen-based, and physical activities that let them explore the computational thinking skills behind Pixar’s process in a compelling and participatory way”

Created by the Museum of Science and Pixar, and featuring more than 40 interactive exhibit elements, The Science Behind Pixar demonstrates the technology that supports the creativity and artistry of Pixar’s storytellers. The exhibition is broken into eight distinct sections, each focusing on a step of the filmmaking process – Modeling, Rigging, Surfaces, Sets & Cameras, Animation, Simulation, Lighting and Rendering – providing visitors with a unique view of the production pipeline and concepts used at Pixar every day. Visitors of all ages will engage in and learn about the filmmaking process through hands-on activities inspired by some of Pixar’s most treasured films, from the first-ever computer animated feature film Toy Story, which opened nearly two decades ago, to Pixar’s newest film, Inside Out, releasing in June 2015.

“The Science Behind Pixar is a behind-the-scenes look at how our movies are made,” said Ed Catmull, president of Pixar and Disney Animation Studios. “The interactive exhibition gives people the opportunity to learn about the jobs our filmmakers do every day and tackle similar problems. It’s a great demonstration of how much creativity and imagination is involved in the science, technology, engineering, art and math thinking essential to our filmmaking process.”

The Science Behind Pixar offers a variety of hands-on activities that empower visitors to imagine the STEM concepts behind Pixar’s films in a fun, engaging format. To better understand the science and math that goes into creating the worlds and characters of Pixar’s films, visitors will hear first-hand from members of the studios’ production teams. They will also be invited to experience different roles within the production pipeline, through screen-based activities and physical interactive exhibits. In Sets & Cameras, for example, visitors will discover how a bugs-eye view was achieved for A Bug’s Life, through camera angles and large-set design within the computer.

Visitors will envision how digital sculptures are created based on sketches from artists in Modeling, and explore Lighting to solve challenges similar to what Pixar artists faced in creating animated water with virtual light in Finding Nemo. Rigging showcases how the models are given a virtual skeleton to enable the animators to add movement, and in Surfaces, visitors can immerse themselves in the techniques behind adding color and texture to every surface in a film. Visitors will also have the opportunity to take their photo with human-size recreations of many of their favorite Pixar film characters, including Buzz Lightyear, Dory, Mike and Sulley, Edna Mode, and WALL•E.

“Throughout the exhibition, visitors will engage in hands-on, screen-based, and physical activities that let them explore the computational thinking skills behind Pixar’s process in a compelling and participatory way,” said Ioannis Miaoulis, Museum president and director. “The Science Behind Pixar explores the creativity and artistry of the Pixar filmmakers, highlighting how computers are used as a filmmaking tool. The exhibition puts you into the role of each aspect of the Pixar filmmaking process, and we hope visitors will increase their knowledge and understanding of the core STEM content behind computer animation.”

Innoventions West at Epcot Set to Close in April

Innoventions West

Have you heard the news Chip and Co fans? Innoventions West at Epcot is set to close on April 30, 2015.

“We’ve reached the end of our sponsorship agreements with the exhibitors in Innoventions West and will temporarily close the space in early May to begin preparing for a new experience,” a Disney spokeswoman said Friday.

All three exhibits located inside Innoventions West (Think, presented by IBM; The Great Piggy Bank Adventure, presented by T. Rowe Price; and Where’s the Fire?, presented by Liberty Mutual Insurance) have reached the end of their sponsorship agreement with Walt Disney World and are being removed.

No word yet on what will be replacing those exhibits, or even if that building will still be Innoventions West when it reopens.

Disney has also not announced if the Disney Visa Meet ‘n Greet for Disney Visa Cardholders, currently located inside Innoventions West, will be moving to a new location or if it will be completely removed as well.

Are you upset to see this building closing and those attractions being permanently removed?  What do you hope Disney replaces it with?

Do you want to visit Innoventions West one more time before it closes?  Or maybe you want to plan a trip for later in the year to see what is going into that building?  I’d love to help you plan your Walt Disney World Vacation!  I am a Travel Magician with World of Magic Travel, the preferred agency of Chip and the Disney Addicts. Disney DIY – Gifts For Disney Lovers

DisneyGiftsArt2
DisneyGiftsArt2

DisneyGifts Art1

Ok so it’s time for you to get a gift for that Disney lover in your life – whether it be a Birthday or anniversary (or a super early Christmas gift?), us Disney fanatics LOVE getting unique Disney items as presents – it not only shows that you pay attention to our interests, but also that you care enough to give the very best – meaning Disney gifts, of course! Not sure what to get us? Well, here are some gift ideas for the Disney loves in your life:

Photo Gifts: These are a great idea for any occasion – you can order Disney frames from the Disney Store website, and pick a print of your favorite Disney family memory to put in it. Or you can make a photo album or Disney scrapbook (Disney scrapbooking supplies are available at craft stores like Jo-Ann Fabrics, Michael’s, and AC Moore), or if you aren’t that crafty you can use a website like shutterfly.com to create a photo book, phone case, mug, tote bag, or any of dozens of other gifts with your fave Disney trip photos on it – your Disney fan will love them all!

The Disney Gift Basket: So many possibilities here – all you have to do is pick a theme and go with it – their favorite movie or character is the perfect starting point – and then build on that. Some possible items you can include: DVD’s, snacks, games, puzzles, toys, stuffed animals, jewelry – plus you can use ribbons/tissue paper in character coordinating colors – really anything goes here! Obviously some themes will be harder to find items for than others, so let websites like etsy, amazon, and ebay help you put your gift basket together! I personally love the idea of a “Disney Kitchen Gift Basket” – with items like Disney cookbooks, spatulas, oven mitts, cookie cutters and more available to purchase, this would be a great idea for your favorite Disney foodie!

DisneyGiftsArt2

Disney Art: What better way to show your Disney fanatic you care than to make them some unique Disney Art that they can proudly display for all who enter their home to see? My husband made me the awesome Disney crayon art pictured at the top of this article by combining drawings of Mickey and Minnie with the newly popular Melted Crayon Art Technique. I can’t even tell you how much I loved opening it – and it will hang proudly in our soon-to-be-born son’s nursery. He also created the above frame for me as an anniversary gift last year – combining some great Disney trip photos with a quote from Cinderella was a great way to show me how much he cares! Obviously I realize that not everyone is crafty or has the time to create these kinds of gifts, and lucky for you – you don’t have to – I love browsing different Disney art and prints on etsy, and many of these are affordable and able to be customized to fit your needs

DisneyGifts Cards

Don’t forget a Disney Greeting Card to go with that gift – widely available at many retail chains, and Hallmark has a ton of great ones too. If you’re feeling artsy you can draw your own (I’m a bit spoiled, my husband has drawn me some great Mickey and Minnie cards over the years!)

Obviously, if all else fails and you are stumped or have no time, a Disney Gift Card always makes the perfect gift – we can spend it at the Disney Parks, put it towards our (never ending) Disney vacation bills, or use it at Disney Stores around the country!

Bottom line – us Disney lovers will love ANY Disney themed gift you get us – the thought, time, and effort you put into the gift will be well appreciated, and we will probably love the Disney gifts so much that we will rush off to brag to our other Disney Addict friends about how awesome you are (seriously, that’s what we do.)

“Skipper’s Cantina” New Jungle Cruise Themed Restaurant Coming to the Magic Kingdom

JC

JC

Anonymouse got it right yet again! Yes, it has been confirmed there will be a new Jungle Cruise themed restaurant coming to the Magic Kingdom.  It will be called “Skipper’s Cantina”, as of right now  It will be located in the Adventureland Veranda, which opened when the park opened in 1971. Since then that spot has been used many different things. Well, after all this time it will be a food service location again. The recent switch of Aloha Aisle and Sunshine Tree Terrace make a bit more sense now.

The back story is supposed to be that the Jungle Cruise skippers are not being paid enough by the Jungle Navigation Company and they need the restaurant to bring in more money.

It is said that it will be quick service for lunch and table service for dinner, but we shall see. It should be open by November 2015 but that is not set in stone just yet. Since the building is already there I don’t think it will take that long.

Wishing you Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust

I know there are many Jungle Cruise fans out there and I am sure you will love to check out the new restaurant. I can help make your dreams a reality. I specialize in Disney World. Contact me at [email protected] for your FREE no obligation quote.

Review of “Into the Woods” Blu-ray and DMA

Into the Woods
Into the Woods

Into the Woods

From the director of “Chicago” and the producer of “Wicked” comes “Into the Woods” which is a modern twist on the fairy tales you thought you knew. Academy Award-Winning actress Meryl Streep, leads an all-star cast in this enchanted adventure.

A little background: Iconic characters, such as Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk and Rapunzel, find their fates intertwined with a humble baker and his wife, whose longing to have a child sends them on a quest to reverse a witch’s (Streep) curse. With an all-star cast, this spellbinding adventure is everything you could ever wish for!

I will admit, when the live action movies starting coming out I had my doubts but I LOVE them! I loved the hidden meanings in this movie. The movie reminds us that a wish can be a very powerful thing and to be careful what we wish for because it might not be everything you thought it would be. The star-studded cast just makes the movie all the more interesting. I do love how they incorporate different fairy tales and story lines all in one movie, and it all meshes well together and actually makes sense. One thing I could do without is all the singing. If musicals are your thing then you will love this movie even more. Remember Tracey Ullman? I had no idea she was in this movie. I remember her from when I was a kid. It was good seeing her on the screen again.

Check it out:

Now for the bonus features:

There is something about “the woods”:

Stars from the movie and behind the scenes people tell us about the meaning behind “the woods” and how some of the woods you movie are not real woods. Going from real life to “Into the Woods” can change everything. I always love the behind the scenes stuff. I love how the magic of Disney can make believe seem real, after all isn’t that why we love Disney?

The cast as good as gold:

This movie has quite a few pretty big celebrities. I think all of them made the movie even more amazing. They have 6 weeks full of rehearsals, can you imagine? The actors said they were nervous to audition and even more nervous to sing in front of everyone. Even big time actors and actresses still get nervous. I also love the behind the scenes interviews because it makes the actors feel more real.

Deeper into the woods from stage to screen:

It’s not east to take a story or a stage show and turn into a movie. Making a movie is so much more complicated. When you watch the movie you never really think about what it takes to make just one scene. Just the planning alone is a job in itself. Directing a musical is harder because there is all the movement and constant changes.

Deeper into the woods the magic of the woods:

In the movie you will notice they go from singing to talking and back again, and they do it seamlessly. They also had a 60 piece orchestra, how cool is that? One thing you will notice is that as they go deeper into the woods the music and sound effects changes. It’s not dramatic but it really does add to the feel of each scene.

Deeper into the woods designing the woods:

The woods are a metaphor for life. It takes courage to go into the woods but no matter what you will come out a stronger person. Most people fear the unknown but what is life without taking a few chances here and there. You never know!

Since they could not control nature, they built their own woods in a studio. They did incorporate some real trees with the fake ones. Amazingly they all look so real. The castle was real, it’s called Dover Castle and it is beautiful.

Deeper into the woods the costumes of the woods:

There is no need to tell you this if you have seen the movie but the costumes are amazing. Everyone’s costumer was inspired by a different time period, yet they all went well together. I think the costumes matched the actors and their characters really well. They had many seamstresses and tailors working on all of these beautiful costumes. Colleen Atwood is an amazing costume designer. She consulted with Meryl Streep on her costume ideas. She designed the costume around Meryl’s movements and her stance in the movie so that it would be comfortable for her. Did you know that Meryl Streep wanted a blue fairy/blue enchantress look? Well, I think she got it.

She’ll be Back:

This is a song that did not make the cut. I think it’s sad when they work so hard on something and then it gets cut, but I know that is how it goes. Everything happens for a reason.

What did you think about the movie?

Wishing you Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust

Why you shouldn’t leave the park to eat.

dining1
dining1

dining1

Some think that leaving the park to eat will save some money. Think again. Can you grab a few sandwiches from the Dollar Menu and spend less than in the park? Sure. If you can teleport. If you factor in everything that goes into leaving the park to get to your desired Fast Food Chain, then getting back.. you’re not saving. You are breaking even money wise, while wasting a lot of time.

So you are on your family vacation, and figure that you are going to save a few bucks by leaving the property to find a place to grab some cheap food.

Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe – 1/3lb Bacon Cheeseburger is 10.69. It includes the Bacon Cheeseburger w/ choice of Apple slices, green beans or Fries (Which you can go to salad bar and add cheese for free.) Plus $2.99 for a drink.

McD’s – Big Mac Meal – Large – $6.99 It comes with your Big Mac, fries and a Drink. So you would be saving $13.38 on 2 meals.

So there is a Savings! But Wait! If your teleport machine is broken, we have some other things to factor in. First, we will have to leave the Park. We have to walk out of the exit then decide: Monorail or Ferry Boat. Then once we wait and get back to the parking lot we have another decision! Walk or take the tram? Line’s not long, it’s in the middle of the day, Pack up and ride to Scar. Now we hit the Alarm button and find our car. Great. Get in and leave the parking lot.

*Note: Just to get to your car takes at least 20 minutes on a good day.*

The closest McD’s is 6 miles away. GPS says it’ll take 10 minutes. So we will be generous and say that’s right, and there is no traffic. Decisions..we could go in and sit down, or we can hit the Drive-Thru. We’ll go Drive-Thru. So we took another 5 minutes ordering our food, paying and getting it. Assuming they didn’t mess up and got the whole order correct, you are heading back to the parks. Wait! Can’t eat and drive that’s not safe. Even if you scarf it down, another 5 minutes. Ok, Now we are heading back to the park! Again, 10 mins on a good day. Park, take the tram, hurry over and catch the monorail, and yup, have to go back through bag check and wait all over again to get through those gates. Finally, you’re back at the park 20 minutes later.

You spent over an hour, at least! And you were Rushing, walking, and driving (spent money in gas). Not enjoying yourself. Not watching a show or parade while munching on your food. You might save a couple of dollars, but you are wasting time, effort and lost out on Magic you wont get back. You are paying for DISNEY. Yes, we all know how much it can be, but that is a lot of work for a few bucks. You spent time away from the park, on the vacation you paid so much more. That’s losing out on your money spent already! Running around wasting energy. Technically, I’d say you’d be losing out on money and more.

There are other ways to save on a Disney trip! Find another place to eat that isn’t so expensive. Disney has so many options! Look online at Menus, ask your Travel Agent for opinions. Or invest in the Dining Plan. There are 3 options, and it can be added right into your reservation so you can pay it off gradually like the rest of your trip! That way you know what you have and can make reservations accordingly. One of the biggest “complaints” I have heard is “It’s too much food, we won’t eat it all.” If that’s not an option, maybe going to a grocery store, or having some delivered and bringing in food. Yes you can bring in snack, food and drinks. (With limits) So there are other options, so please make leaving the park your last one. Enjoy your time at Disney, not in traffic!

If you have questions about the Dining Plan or want other tips or tricks, my name Is Jamie  I’m an Independent Travel Agent with World of Magic Travel, and a Disney Addict myself! I’m also a writer for Chip & Co. Feel free to contact me at [email protected] or follow me here on Facebook
