Ten Things Your Travel Agent Wants You to Know

unnamed 9

lost

There are a lot of articles out there about things your Disney Travel agent doesn’t want you to know. This is not one of those articles! These are things that your travel agent DOES want you to know:

  1. Good travel agents won’t charge you a dime! If you find a travel agent that wants to charge you fees for booking, making reservations, itineraries, or cancelling reservations, walk away! Make sure you ask if they charge fees before you book with them.
  2. Most Disney travel agents know and are very passionate about Disney Travel. Many of us go multiple times a year.  This means that when you contact a Disney agent, you’re getting someone who can give you pointers you’ve never even considered, who knows the parks like the back of her hand, and who thinks it’s perfectly reasonable to have a packing list made 7-months before you visit.
  3. Don’t feel bad asking questions! We love planning trips and talking Disney so don’t apologize for asking a question. I have received emails starting with “Sorry to bug you…” or “I don’t want to nag…”. Your questions are not nagging or bugging us! This is our job and we enjoy doing it. It’s what we’re here for so ask away!
  4. Please don’t hesitate to ask for quotes and basic information, but remember that until you book, we can’t work up itineraries, advise you on what to pack, or make your dining/fast pass reservations because we have clients who are already booked to attend to. Once you’re a client, we’ll do all of this and more!
  5. Book the room you can afford now, not what you think you can afford six months from now. It’s a lot easier to upgrade prior to travel than downgrade.
  6. If a discount is released after you book, you can still take advantage of it. So long as your travel dates qualify and there is availability, you can take advantage of discounts that are released after you book. Disney will not automatically apply a discount to your reservation-that’s where your agent comes in. We will call and have Disney apply the discount to your reservation and get you those savings.
  7. There’s some flexibility regarding your final payment.  We all know this economy is bad and sometimes people need an extra day or two to pay. We get that. Let us know and we can talk to Disney for you. Don’t feel embarrassed;  it happens all the time.
  8. Wait to buy your airfare. The way Disney offers discounts, there can sometimes be a major difference between checking in one day (the day you just happen to have booked six months ago) and the next day (the day when the discount actually starts). You’re usually safe if you buy airfare under 60 days out.
  9. We will do as much or as little planning as you want. Whether you like to be in control and do all the planning yourself, or you get overwhelmed easily and don’t know where to start, we can help! If you just want us to make your initial booking and leave the rest to you, we can do that! If you want us to help you decide where to stay, where to eat…etc, we can do that too! You are in charge and we will work for you!
  10. Okay, this is self-serving, but here it is: When you book with a Disney travel agent, you help a small business. Disney pays commission to travel agencies. Agents and agency owners split that amount different ways.  Paying that amount to an agency doesn’t raise your price; in other words, it isn’t built into your costs as a hidden fee. You’ll pay the same amount whether you book with a Disney agent, call Disney directly, or book online.  But when you book with us (and by “us” I mean any Disney travel agency), you put that money back into your local economy instead of keeping it at Disney.

I love helping others plan and book their vacations! It makes my day when I’m able to find that discount or reservation that will make my client’s visit extra magical. If you’re interested in using a travel agent or would like some help planning your next Disney vacation, contact me here!

Tokyo DisneySea

Tokyo DisneySea is already 15 years old. Of course, they are celebrating their anniversary in style. The “Tokyo DisneySea 15th Anniversary: The Year of Wishes” celebration will start April 15, 2016, and end March 17, 2017.

The anniversary celebration will focus on wishes and dreams. Different forms of crystals will decorate the park. There will also be a new show called“Crystal Wishes Journey,” at Mediterranean Harbor, in which Disney characters will share their own wishes.

If you attend the first day of the anniversary celebration you can enjoy a new version of “Big Band Beat,” the popular show presented at the Broadway Music Theatre, will debut with new music, and costumes etc. That show has not been changed since 2006, until now.

Princess Diaries 3 Is Not On The List Of Upcoming Disney Movies

Princess Diaries GIFs
Princess Diaries GIFs

Princess

Anonymouse reporting for duty with the latest news from the mousevine.  There is no sign of Princess Diaries 3 on the list of upcoming Disney movies.   Although Walt Disney Pictures had hinted about the possibility of moving forward with Princess Diaries 3, at this time Walt Disney Pictures and Anne Hathaway have not confirmed nor are they in talks about a 3rd movie.

Unlike Julie Andrews who in 2011, when asked if she would be interested in appearing in a 3rd Princess Diaries film, responded, she will never say no to a Disney movie.

Princess Diaries

The Princess Diaries and Princess Diaries 2 films available in a combo pack pictured above, starring Julie Andrews and Anne Hathaway were popular with Disney fans young and old, who always dreamed about becoming a princess.

The 2001 Princess Diaries was based on Meg Cabot’s book series of the same name and with nine volumes in the series and many half volumes, there is plenty of material to chose from.   Rumors of a 3rd installment surfaced with the release of the first adult book in her series titled “The Princess Diaries, vol. 11:  Royal Wedding”.  Fans of the Princess Diaries, Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews will have to continue to wait and see if the studios move forward at a future time.

For now Anonymouse will continue to sniff around, listen and report the gossip to my fellow addicts.

Meet The Cast of Disney / Pixar’s Inside Out!

inside out cast

Disney Pixar Studios brought together the cast from their upcoming new movie “Inside Out” for a hysterical hour of questions, answers and comments.

Phyllis Smith (Sadness), Bill Hader (Fear), Amy Poehler (Joy), Lewis Black (Anger) and Mindy Kaling (Disgust) walked into the conference room and immediately had the audience laughing.

The first question asked was the casts’ reaction when they read the screenplay.  Phyllis was excited, while Bill, who is a huge fan was offered the part of Fear after taking a tour of Pixar.  Amy felt the film was going to be the best Pixar movie after seeing the power point presentation idea and Lewis joked about being the first one cast which is why everyone else wanted to be a part of the movie.    Mindy added that the experience of working with Pixar is like dating a guy who is has the looks and title and doesn’t realize it and she said she immediately said “I’m in”.

Asked if the cast could relate to the emotion they voiced, Mindy talked about the character having a lot of qualities of an impatient, judgmental adolescent girl and her role of Disgust allowed Mindy to say things she would say on a really bad day.  For Lewis Black, Anger was perfect, as he grew up in a family that expressed love through arguing.   Amy felt the energy and bossiness of Joy was something she could pull off, while Bill called himself a big whimp which made him, Fear.  As for Phyllis, with a sad look on her face, she said she was a mess and real sad sack that sat around the house and moped.   Phyllis then went on to say that she felt Pete Docter was able to see  her insecurities and bring them forward, in my opinion into the ideal casting,

An interesting response by all to the question of which other emotion would they play, resulted in Anger being the most popular choice with Disgust a close second.   The cast felt that playing Anger would be fun.  Amy Poehler wondered why no one chose Joy.

My favorite question was how would one describe Inside Out as a classic film that must be seen to kids.  Bill Hader had the perfect response saying what makes it great for him is that it is a film about a time in our lives we all have to go through – from youth to adolescence.  “Things start to change and things start to get a little hard.  A lot of normal movies don’t talk about that”

On a personal note, I have to agree that most movies don’t talk about that period of our lives, but Inside Out not only talks about it but gives us what I think is the most important view of the changes – from the INSIDE OUT.

Meeting the voices behind the characters moved the film even higher on my list of all time Disney / Pixar favorites.   Don’t miss INSIDE OUT in theatres, Friday, June 19, 2015. One of the best Disney / Pixar Movies!

Marvel, comiXology and Amazon announced recently that there is an expanded and renewed exclusive relationship to distribute and sell Marvel’s digital comic books across the comiXology, Amazon and Marvel Comics platforms. This newly expanded relationship will continue Marvel’s single issue digital comic books exclusive on comiXology’s worldwide platform and also expand the exclusive deal to the vast universe of the Amazon Kindle readers for the first time in history.

“After Amazon’s acquisition of comiXology in April of 2014, we collectively saw a great opportunity to expand our relationship and create more ways for fans to access Marvel’s vast library of characters as well as leverage comiXology’s technology, together with Amazon’s incredible consumer focus and reach,” said Peter Phillips, EVP of Interactive and Digital Distribution at Marvel Entertainment.

“Marvel, comiXology and Amazon are committed to bringing Marvel’s amazing stories to current and future Marvel fans across the globe,” said David Steinberger, CEO of comiXology. “And this historic extension of our relationship with the expansion of Marvel’s single issues to Amazon’s Kindle platform is an enormous opportunity to reach more fans.”

Under the new agreement, comiXology will continue to distribute Marvel’s English language single issue, trades and graphic novels via the comiXology apps on Fire tablets, iPhone, iPad, Android devices and the web at comixology.com. ComiXology will also continue to power the Marvel Comics app for iPhone, iPad and Android devices as well as the Marvel Digital Comic Shop. What’s new for fans and readers is that over 12,000 single issue digital comic books will become available for sale on the Amazon Kindle Store on June 18, 2015 and will be available on the Amazon Kindle platform around the world.

“Amazon, comiXology and Marvel share a passion for expanding the audience for comic books and graphic novels worldwide,” said David Naggar, Vice President, Amazon Kindle. “With the ever-increasing number of devices in consumers’ hands and the growing popularity of Marvel’s extensive catalogue of familiar Super Heroes we see this as the perfect time to create a whole new generation of comic book readers.”

Since Marvel and comiXology first worked together to create the Marvel Comics app for iPhone, iPad, and Android devices, the Marvel apps for these platforms have had a combined 15 million downloads. The Marvel Comics app has been the #1 grossing book app for iOS in 2015 and the #1 grossing app in the Comics Category in the Google Play app store for 2015. New fans, across all demographics, attracted to Marvel’s amazing characters through top-grossing movies, critically-acclaimed TV series, and ground breaking new publishing series have driven titles like Daredevil, Spider-Gwen, and Rocket Raccoon to record sales, alongside perennial favorites like Ultimate Spider-Man and Avengers.

Celebrate a little mealtime magic with Disney

MealTime Magic
MealTime Magic

meals

Sitting down to dinner as a family is very important to us, it is a great time for us to talk about our day, things we plan on doing tomorrow, and to just enjoy a good meal together. While not being able to travel to the parks as much as we would like, I do like to add a little Disney Mealtime Magic to our family gatherings with fun place-mats, cups and even silverware just to keep the Disney Magic going.

When going to the Disney Store picking up a fun place setting for my girls was a very inexpensive way to add a little Disney Magic to our home. They have a bunch of options and I found they rotate them out quite frequently. Check them out Mealtime Magic: Cups, Plates, Flatware, Placemats and More at Disney Store. Do you like to decorate in Disney? Have you ever thought about making a meal setting into a Disney Collection? I think it’s a great idea and something you can rotate out all the time to keep mealtime fresh, fun, and magical.

Taste Track

Have you heard about Taste Track? I will admit that when I first saw the name I thought it said Test Track. Taste Track is a new quick service spot at Epcot.  They are serving the classic grilled cheese sandwich but with a twist.  Think of it as grown up grilled cheese.

How does Gruyere and Applewood smoked bacon sound? Or,  Fontina and tomato basil? Maybe, Canadian cheddar and apples grilled cheese sandwich on cinnamon raisin bread. Every sandwich comes with either tomato bisque soup or a side salad.

Taste track 1 Taste Track

There are not just grilled cheese, you can also get a roasted chicken salad or a kid’s grilled cheese sandwich.

On my next trip to Epcot I will be trying at least one of these. Which sandwich sounds good to you?

Top 5 ideas for starting your own Disney Collection

Pin Shadow Box1
Pin Shadow Box1

Pin-Shadow-Box

Everyone likes to have some momento or reminder of the fun times they have on vacation – and there are plenty of Disney-themed souvenirs and other items that can serve not only to remind you of your trips, but they’re also great things to collect, too! If you’re looking to start a Disney collection of your own, then read on to learn about some awesome things you can collect that will help make your trips to the Happiest Place on Earth even more memorable:

Disney Pin Trading: The Disney pin trading/collecting phenomenon is huge – there are TONS of pin designs out there, and the great thing is you can get a pin for almost any occasion – a favorite ride/attraction/character, parties/celebrations/holidays, movies…and the list goes on (and on!). It’s a great collection that is easy to display at home and easy to add to on all your Disney adventures! It’s a great way to meet and interact with people at the Parks too – by trading, or by simply asking about people’s pins (every pin tells a story, after all!)

Autographs: This is a pretty special collection to have – as it’s not always easy, it takes time (waiting in lots of lines!) and research (finding where your favorite characters will be while you’re at the Parks!) – but it’s worth it! You can stash your autographs in a classic Disney autograph book (you can buy them at the Parks!), or you can make your own (a plain notepad and some stickers would do the trick!), or you can try something a bit more unique – how about having the characters all sign a hat, or t-shirt, or a pillow case, or even a white photo mat that you can later use in a frame with a pic of you enjoying your vacation? No matter where they sign, these are precious signatures and make for a great collection for Disney lovers of any age

Freebies: There are a lot of uniquely Disney items available for FREE at the Parks that make a great collection – park maps/schedules, tickets/key cards, stickers, celebration buttons, magic bands – these are just some of the items that are available at the Disney Parks that you can use in your Disney collection! They are great additions to a trip scrapbook or photo album, and look great in a shadow box frame. Or you can get really creative and make some awesome DIY Coasters with all those park maps you collected

Trip Photos: This is my all-time favorite Disney collection – I love to take tons of pictures while I am on vacation, and I especially love pictures with characters in them! That’s the beauty of a character meal – they come right to your table for hugs, autographs, and photo ops! Photos can be used for so many things – albums, scrapbooks, frames, collages, photo gifts (plenty that you can create on your own, or order off websites like shutterfly.com) – the possibilities are endless, and not only does this make for a great collection, but it’s a great way to relive your trip’s best moments too! Disney also sells some great frames and albums online at DisneyStore.com, and at the Parks too

Christmas Ornaments: I don’t know about you, but I don’t much care about having a “picture perfect” Christmas tree – for me it’s all about ornaments that are reminders of milestones and fun times, which is why my family likes to pick up a new ornament on every Disney trip. You can get them year round at the Disney’s Days of Christmas Store in Downtown Disney, and they have tons to choose from. I prefer something smaller and non-glass (for traveling purposes!), and I love getting to unwrap them every year – what a great collection it is, and what a great time to reminisce about our greatest Disney moments!

I hope these ideas have sparked your interest in starting a Disney collection of your own – or maybe you already have one? So tell me – What’s in YOUR Disney collection?
