Celebrate a little mealtime magic with Disney

MealTime Magic
MealTime Magic

meals

Sitting down to dinner as a family is very important to us, it is a great time for us to talk about our day, things we plan on doing tomorrow, and to just enjoy a good meal together. While not being able to travel to the parks as much as we would like, I do like to add a little Disney Mealtime Magic to our family gatherings with fun place-mats, cups and even silverware just to keep the Disney Magic going.

When going to the Disney Store picking up a fun place setting for my girls was a very inexpensive way to add a little Disney Magic to our home. They have a bunch of options and I found they rotate them out quite frequently. Check them out Mealtime Magic: Cups, Plates, Flatware, Placemats and More at Disney Store. Do you like to decorate in Disney? Have you ever thought about making a meal setting into a Disney Collection? I think it’s a great idea and something you can rotate out all the time to keep mealtime fresh, fun, and magical.

Taste Track Now Open at Epcot

Taste Track

Have you heard about Taste Track? I will admit that when I first saw the name I thought it said Test Track. Taste Track is a new quick service spot at Epcot.  They are serving the classic grilled cheese sandwich but with a twist.  Think of it as grown up grilled cheese.

How does Gruyere and Applewood smoked bacon sound? Or,  Fontina and tomato basil? Maybe, Canadian cheddar and apples grilled cheese sandwich on cinnamon raisin bread. Every sandwich comes with either tomato bisque soup or a side salad.

Taste track 1 Taste Track

There are not just grilled cheese, you can also get a roasted chicken salad or a kid’s grilled cheese sandwich.

On my next trip to Epcot I will be trying at least one of these. Which sandwich sounds good to you?

Top 5 ideas for starting your own Disney Collection

Pin Shadow Box1
Pin Shadow Box1

Pin-Shadow-Box

Everyone likes to have some momento or reminder of the fun times they have on vacation – and there are plenty of Disney-themed souvenirs and other items that can serve not only to remind you of your trips, but they’re also great things to collect, too! If you’re looking to start a Disney collection of your own, then read on to learn about some awesome things you can collect that will help make your trips to the Happiest Place on Earth even more memorable:

Disney Pin Trading: The Disney pin trading/collecting phenomenon is huge – there are TONS of pin designs out there, and the great thing is you can get a pin for almost any occasion – a favorite ride/attraction/character, parties/celebrations/holidays, movies…and the list goes on (and on!). It’s a great collection that is easy to display at home and easy to add to on all your Disney adventures! It’s a great way to meet and interact with people at the Parks too – by trading, or by simply asking about people’s pins (every pin tells a story, after all!)

Autographs: This is a pretty special collection to have – as it’s not always easy, it takes time (waiting in lots of lines!) and research (finding where your favorite characters will be while you’re at the Parks!) – but it’s worth it! You can stash your autographs in a classic Disney autograph book (you can buy them at the Parks!), or you can make your own (a plain notepad and some stickers would do the trick!), or you can try something a bit more unique – how about having the characters all sign a hat, or t-shirt, or a pillow case, or even a white photo mat that you can later use in a frame with a pic of you enjoying your vacation? No matter where they sign, these are precious signatures and make for a great collection for Disney lovers of any age

Freebies: There are a lot of uniquely Disney items available for FREE at the Parks that make a great collection – park maps/schedules, tickets/key cards, stickers, celebration buttons, magic bands – these are just some of the items that are available at the Disney Parks that you can use in your Disney collection! They are great additions to a trip scrapbook or photo album, and look great in a shadow box frame. Or you can get really creative and make some awesome DIY Coasters with all those park maps you collected

Trip Photos: This is my all-time favorite Disney collection – I love to take tons of pictures while I am on vacation, and I especially love pictures with characters in them! That’s the beauty of a character meal – they come right to your table for hugs, autographs, and photo ops! Photos can be used for so many things – albums, scrapbooks, frames, collages, photo gifts (plenty that you can create on your own, or order off websites like shutterfly.com) – the possibilities are endless, and not only does this make for a great collection, but it’s a great way to relive your trip’s best moments too! Disney also sells some great frames and albums online at DisneyStore.com, and at the Parks too

Christmas Ornaments: I don’t know about you, but I don’t much care about having a “picture perfect” Christmas tree – for me it’s all about ornaments that are reminders of milestones and fun times, which is why my family likes to pick up a new ornament on every Disney trip. You can get them year round at the Disney’s Days of Christmas Store in Downtown Disney, and they have tons to choose from. I prefer something smaller and non-glass (for traveling purposes!), and I love getting to unwrap them every year – what a great collection it is, and what a great time to reminisce about our greatest Disney moments!

I hope these ideas have sparked your interest in starting a Disney collection of your own – or maybe you already have one? So tell me – What’s in YOUR Disney collection?

Disney/Pixar’s Inside Out Is Packed Full Of Emotions

Inside out Poster
Inside out Poster

Inside out Poster

“Inside Out” is packed full of emotions.  Five to be exact, all living in Headquarters inside 11 year old Riley’s head.   Taking us on an “emotional” trip through the turmoil of Riley’s life, Inside Out gives us a good, hard look at what might go on inside our own headquarters.

Inside Out starts off with baby Riley making memories and storing exciting life events.  The memories and events are monitored by the emotions in Headquarters – Joy (the main emotion), Anger, Disgust, Fear and Sadness.  The emotions work hard all day to make sure Riley is fine.  At night the emotions take the memories and store them in the respective areas of Riley’s mind.  There are specific areas – family, sports, friendship, etc that house certain memories.    Fast forward to present day, and Riley and her parents are moving across the states to San Francisco.  At first, you see the family driving and all seems fine.

Joy is the main emotion and although the others pop up here and there, she is the one that strives to keep Riley happy.  The move however has disrupted the flow of Headquarters and the delay of the moving van with the family possessions, a trip to the local pizza shop where they only serve broccoli pizza and a tearful first day of school cause a shift in the emotions. From that point forward, things start to get a bit shaky for Riley.  When Sadness, who is usually in the shadows, comes forward and makes her presence known, it causes a disturbance sending Joy and Sadness into the far areas of Riley’s mind.    Back at Headquarters, the other emotions, Disgust, Anger and Fear are working overtime to run things while Joy and Sadness are doing everything they can to get back to Headquarters.

The trip back to Headquarters is filled with roadblocks and heartache, including meeting and losing childhood friends and changes to memories along the way.  Joy continues to be her optimist self and Sadness continues to be … well … Sadness.

I won’t spoil the ending for you but will say that this movie had me experiencing all 5 of the emotions in my own headquarters – Joy at the amazing movie plot, Sadness over some of the events that happened, Disgusted about broccoli pizza, Fear at the risks and roadblocks the characters go through and finally just a tiny bit of Anger over the fact that life and memories changes.

Our love for Disney movies comes from the incredible stories where we cry, laugh and realize the important things in our lives and INSIDE OUT is no exception.  Disney/Pixar Studios once again takes us on an adventure full of new characters, life lessons and the ability to recognize and accept the roles our emotions play in our own Headquarters.

Don’t miss INSIDE OUT in theatres, June 19th.   This is going to be one of those Disney movies that will be become an instant favorite the moment you see it.

Dont miss more Inside Out fun with my article titled MEET THE INSIDE OUT CAST at www.chipandco.com.

Best Table Service Restaurant at Each Disney World Theme Park

Best Table Service at Disney World Parks
Best Table Service at Disney World Parks

Best Table Service at Disney World Parks

So this post has been a tough one to write – how do you pick just ONE Table service restaurant in each theme park and call it the “best?”  To some extant it is a matter of preference but there is also atmosphere and over all experience to consider.

Because this was too big of a task to come up with on my own I turned to the Chip and Co Disney Addicts to get their opinions as well!

And the Winners Are:

Animal Kingdom: Tusker House (Africa) – One of the best character interactions in all of Walt Disney World and serving some of the best food – Tusker House is a family favorite and a must-visit on every trip for us.  Join Safari Donald and the gang for a meal sure to please.  This buffet style restaurant servers breakfast, lunch and dinner, offering both African and American cuisine. The theming is fantastic – you’ll feel like you really are in an African Marketplace and the food is top notch!  Add to that the great character interactions you’ll experience and you can see why Tusker House is my favorite Animal Kingdom Table Service restaurant!

Hollywood Studios: 50’s Prime Time Cafe (Echo Lake) – Serving old fashioned comfort food as you sit around “Mom’s” kitchen table 50’s Prime Time Cafe is a can’t miss restaurant during your Walt Disney World vacation.  The retro decor (and black and white television programs) make you feel like you’ve stepped back to a simpler time.  And make sure you are on your best behavior or Mom might just come out and say “No desert for you!”  My favorite meals include A Sampling of Mom’s Favorite Recipes which includes crispy fried chicken, fork tender pot roast and traditional meatloaf with all the fixings and the Chicken Pot Pie with a creamy filling and flaky crust. And no meal at 50’s Prime Time Cafe is complete without a Peanut Butter and Jelly Milkshake.  Just make sure you clean your plate!

Epcot: Garden Grill (The Land Pavilion) – This was probably the hardest park to pick just one place from.  Truthfully, the only reason I went with Garden Grill is because even though World Showcase has amazing places to eat, they really do depend on taste.  Garden Grill is fairly standard (although amazing!) fare.  The character interactions are beyond wonderful – you’ll have visits from Farmer Mickey, Pluto and Chip and Dale during you meal.  Plus the restaurant revolves through scenes of the Living with the Land attraction.  I’ve also had some of the best service at Garden Grill!  Garden Grill serves dinner only and it is an all you care to enjoy meal served family style.

Magic Kingdom: Be Our Guest (New Fantasyland) – This one was a no-brainer!  Probably the hottest dining reservation in all of Walt Disney World, enjoying a meal in the Beast’s Castle is something every Disney-goer should do once!  From a prix-fixe, quick service breakfast to a quick service lunch or table service dinner, there is something for everyone at Be Our GuestVisit all three dining rooms, the Ballroom, the West Wing and the Library – each full of Disney Magic and amazing things to see!  Breakfast includes egg sandwiches and a few sweet treats, lunch is soups, salads and sandwiches and dinner includes entrees with a French flare!  And don’t forget to try the grey stuff!

Want to check out these amazing restaurants?  Let me help you plan a Walt Disney World vacation that includes visits to all of these delicious restaurants and more!  I am a Travel Magician with World of Magic Travel, the preferred agency of Chip and Co and the Disney Addicts! Email me today at [email protected] to start planning your “Magical” vacation!
