Top 5 Disney Buffets For Adult Diners

HappyHour Boma1
HappyHour Boma1

HappyHour Boma1

The Dining Choices at Disney World are abundant – so abundant that choosing which ones you’ll dine at can be really difficult. But if you’re traveling as a couple/all adult party to WDW, then you’re in luck – because while WDW may seem to be a family’s paradise (which it is), it is actually geared towards those of all ages, and they really do have something for everyone. If you love buffets, but aren’t sure about dining with characters or tons of families with (sometimes loud and rambunctious) children, then check out my Top Five Disney Buffets For Adults:

Biergarten: The name of this restaurant literally means “Beer Garden” – so already we’re off to a great start! You’ll find this spot in Epcot’s Germany, and you’ll enjoy live German music as well as a buffet brimming with authentic German cuisine. Sausages with sauerkraut, pretzel rolls, warm German potato salad, Schnitzel, and a yummy apple strudel for dessert – just to name a few! Plus they serve up some delicious German beers too (served out of huge beer steins, of course!), which pair perfectly with the buffet choices. Lunch and dinner are served here daily, and the restaurant is set up with tons of long tables, which means that if you have a smaller party dining there that you will be sharing a table with people you don’t know. But, the more the merrier is what I always say – pull up a chair and a beer and toast to a great meal!

Hollywood and Vine: Breakfast and lunch at this Hollywood Studios spot is geared toward toddlers, as it’s the “Disney Junior Play’N’Dine” meal featuring characters from Disney Junior shows. Dinner, however, is character free, making it a much more adult-friendly affair, featuring a buffet of items that includes carved meats, create your own pasta, soft serve ice cream, and a chocolate fountain (yum!). The ambiance of the restaurant is a vintage 50’s style cafeteria to the stars – its nothing spectacular but its fun, and a good place to grab a delicious dinner

Cape May Café: A good ole New England style Clambake is what you’ll find here – fried clams, mussels, salmon, fried shrimp, calamari, clam chowder – they’re all there on the buffet just waiting for you! Disney’s Beach Club Resort is home to this popular dining spot – where Mickey and friends don their bathing suits for a character breakfast, but at dinner there are no characters (who needs them anyway – all that seafood is the star of the meal!). Dine in this pastel beach-y themed restaurant and you’ll swear you’re “at the shore!” Flan and oreo bon bons round out the meal, and while those are delicious – it’s the seafood that’s the real winner here. Cape May Café consistently gets high marks for their food and service, so if you’ve never tried it, make sure you make it a priority on your next trip!

The Wave…Of American Flavors: Disney’s Contemporary Resort is known for its unique design (a monorail runs right through it!), it’s proximity to the Magic Kingdom and it’s ever popular character buffet – Chef Mickey’s. Well, there’s another buffet nearby at The Wave – which is known for its sustainability efforts, as they use as many locally sourced ingredients as possible. They only serve a buffet at breakfast, and they offer some really unique items on it – eggs benedict with Florida Key Lime Hollandaise, sweet potato pancakes (with pecan honey butter), multi-grain Mickey shaded waffles, “sticky Mickey” cinnamon buns, and house-made granola. While it doesn’t offer as wide of a variety as other Disney breakfast buffets, the ingredients and dishes are unique and delicious, and since the Contemporary is just a quick monorail ride away from the Magic Kingdom, The Wave is a great spot to stop at for a quick (delicious!) breakfast

Boma: Head over to the beautiful Animal Kingdom Lodge to experience the African safari, as well as the African cuisine at Boma! They serve up daily buffet of breakfast and dinner, and offer unique items like bobotie (a spiced meat quiche type dish – amazing!), assorted hummus, fresh soups, basmati rice, cold salads, and much more! They also offer traditional breakfast items (eggs, meats, potatoes, etc), as well as roast chicken, vegetables, and some truly amazing desserts at dinnertime too – zebra domes anyone? This is one of my absolute favorite dinner spots – we like to head over to AKL early so we can check out the animals on the savannah, and then grab a drink at the adjacent lounge. The buffet is always delicious, fresh, and there’s always something new to try

Hopefully you buffet lovers out there can take comfort in knowing that there are some amazing character-free Disney World buffets out there – ones that serve up some truly different and delicious food!

A Sensational Star-Spangled Celebration for Walt Disney World Resort

0703ZW 0083DR 640x420

You can rock your patriotic Disney Side at Walt Disney World Resort on July 3 and 4 to celebrate Independence Day. With themed souvenirs, characters adorned in festive attire and breathtaking fireworks bursting in air, it is a magical two-day celebration to honor America’s birthday.

Patriotic firework displays light up the sky the evenings of July 3 and 4:

  • A 14-minute fireworks spectacular rockets into the air above Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom both nights at 10 p.m. with “Disney’s Celebrate America! A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky.”
  • At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the “Coolest Summer Ever” Dance Party leads up to a “Rockin’ Fourth of July Celebration” fireworks show, a pyrotechnic, rock ‘n roll trip across America, where the DJ kicks things off at 5:45 p.m. and keeps the party going until fireworks time at 10:15 p.m.
  • Epcot’s awe-inspiring nighttime spectacular “Illuminations: Reflections of Earth” features a special finale with a bit of red, white and blue flare at 9 p.m. on July 3 and 4.

Epcot features a few additional fanfare festivities on July 4 to add to the flag-waving spirit of the holiday. The Voices of Liberty perform a Fourth of July concert at the America Gardens Theatre at 12:30, 1:45, and 3 p.m., and in the American Adventure pavilion at 4:15 and 5 p.m. The celebration proceeds on a high note with the Sounds Like Summer concert series onstage at the America Gardens Theatre featuring “Don’t Look Back – A Boston Tribute Band,” with performances at 5:15, 6:30, 7:45 and 9 p.m.

Special patriotic character greetings also are available at various times throughout the day.

Independence Day festivities cannot be complete without a few star-spangled souvenirs, including USA shirts, trading pins and red, white and blue socks. A few festive treats also will be available in various merchandise locations.

The Fourth of July fun continues at the Walt Disney World resort hotels. They will host patriotic poolside activities throughout the day for resort guests, including Fourth of July-themed crafts and games, pool parties and movies under the stars at select resorts.

The Fourth fireworks are some of the best I have seen. Second to MNSSHP fireworks.

10 Disney Parks Shopping Splurges

mickey diamond

When I go to Walt Disney World I budget with the intent to buy plenty of merchandise on each visit. However, there is an elite level of souvenir that I usually don’t allow myself to buy. As a NorthEasterner I can’t visit as often as I’d like so I always stock up while I’m visiting. I try to keep individual “big ticket” items under $100 each so my “splurges” may be more or less than yours! What are your spending limits when you visit? How do you decide what to buy and what to leave behind? Here are 10 splurges in Disney World and Disneyland that I think are worth it.

  1. Dooney and Bourke bags– Choose your style and chose your pattern! You can’t go wrong with any of the bags in the Dooney and Bourke Disney collections. From $128 to up over $300 there are many options and designs. My favorite is the Disney World Retro- and have you seen the Runway Princess pattern?
  2. Disney Pandora– I don’t know any lovers of jewelry and Disney who don’t want this entire collection! With elaborate charms that feature everything from Cinderella’s pumpkin coach to the Mickey Fun Wheel at Disney’s California Adventure, this imaginative collection is a “must”.
  3. Platinum Mickey Mouse Diamond Ring– pictured above, this ring will break the everyday budget. Currently priced at $1,815 (subject to change) this sparkler is a simple but pricey way to tell the world you love Mickey Mouse! For a special someone this would be an amazing gift.
  4. Arribas Brothers collectibles– Expertly crafted, glittering figurines, jewelry, glassware and wooden gifts. These delights are nothing short of gorgeous. Ranging in price from $17 costume jewels to a miraculous $37,500 Cinderella’s Castle replica there’s something for everyone.
  5. Official Disney Giclee prints- Available in stores all across Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort they come in variations of character/movie, size, framed (or not), some are signed and numbered- the sky is the limit. If you’ve been searching for that perfect wall art for your family room or bedroom a giclee would be a great investment.
  6. Disney Miniatures by Olszewski– This series of architectural replicas of the parks is a Disney Memorabilia lover’s dream! From the Disneyland entrance turnstyles to the castle and Main Street U.S.A. you can take home a piece of the magic and admire it every day!
  7. Luggage– Don’t you love when you see a Mickey or Minnie suitcase roll by you at the airport? Maybe you travel to Disney all the time and want to commemorate that. Maybe you bought too many souvenirs and need extra luggage to get it home! Either way a Disney authentic suitcase would make a great addition to any frequent traveler’s luggage.
  8. Disney collection by Vera Bradley– These eccentric bags are priced on the lower end of the Disney bag spectrum but still a pretty penny. Several designs are currently available and you can’t find them at Vera Bradley stores. Grab yourself a “Where’s Mickey?” tote or backpack before you head home.
  9. Walt Disney World Tour Men’s Performance Golf Wear– Sometimes it’s hard to find a gift for Dad or husband in Disney if they aren’t a huge Disney lover. If they love golf or sportswear there are some great options in short sleeves, long sleeves, jackets and pull overs. They are more than your average WDW souvenir sweatshirt so I would consider them a splurge!
  10. Mickey Dinner Plates/serve wear– I have always dreamed of hitting up Downtown Disney with a wad of cash prepared to buy myself a full set of Mikey Mouse dishes, glasses and silverware to serve my dinners on every night. I’ll hold onto the dream and someday I’ll do it!

The only thing I love more than riding the rides and seeing the attractions in Disney is shopping there! Did I miss any of your favorites? If you could buy ANYTHING what would it be?

I’m Autumn, a Travel Magician with World of Magic Travel! I’d love to talk merch with you while we plan your next Disney dream vacation! Contact me today via email or follow me on Facebook!

Deadmau5 and Disney Settled Their Fight Over the Mouse Ears

Deadmouse
Deadmouse

dm

You might have heard that Disney was suing Deadmau5 for this use of the Mickey Ears. I am actually surprised that it did not happen sooner.

Last year, Disney filed papers at the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. They stated that the Deadmau5 design was “nearly identical in appearance, connotation and overall commercial impression to Disney’s Mouse Ears Marks” and would “cause confusion” among consumers. Some people found the lawsuit odd because Deadmau5 has worked with Disney before. So why could they not just talk it out?

The details of the case are not made public so we don’t know exactly what the decision entails. We do know there was a withdrawal of Disney’s opposition and any possible amended trademark registrations. In April, the Appeal Board rejected one of Deadmau5’s defenses that Disney couldn’t be harmed from the registration.

Hopefully everyone is happy with the final decision!

Aloha! I know you know who this is already. I know that I also need no introduction. But I have to, drum roll please!!!! It is “I” Anonymouse! I know you only read this blog for my Disney Gossip. I totally understand. Let’s keep that from Chiperoo, he is easily offended! Talk around the water cooler is that The Magic of Disney Animation at Hollywood Studios will shut down soon. Not for good I don’t think, but we shall see.

The shut down will reportedly happen in a few weeks. I was told that the Animation Academy should re-open in a new bigger space since the drawing classes are so popular. Maybe a larger meet and greet spot? Who knows.

Remember nothing is official until Disney drops the hammer! As soon as we know you will know!

Anywho, this all the Disney gossip I have for now. For my past gossip articles be sure to check them out here. Got any good gossip/rumors please email me at anonymouse@chipandco.com or on myFacebook page

Discovery Cove Celebrates 15 years

Discovery cove

This summer, Discovery Cove in Orlando will celebrate 15 years since its grand opening. When the park first opened on July 1, 2000, it was an anomaly in the world of Orlando theme parks: a reservation-only experience limited to approximately 1,000 guests per day. Discovery Cove opened with 3 signature experiences: guests could swim with dolphins, snorkel with rays and tropical fish, and hand feed exotic birds. During the last 15 years, the park has flourished in size, earned prestige worldwide for guest service and proved its commitment to conservation and animal care.

Milestones include:

  • In 2013 and 2014, rated the “#1 Amusement Park in the World” in the TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice™ awards;
  • Grew to more than 22 acres, started at 15 acres
  • Expanded to include five signature experiences
  • Opened The Grand Reef, which contains more than 10,000 tropical fish and dozens of rays
  • Added SeaVenture, where guests can experience an underwater guided walking tour
  • Opened Freshwater Oasis with playful Asian otters and curious marmoset monkeys\
  • Witnessed hundreds of significant animal births and hatchings, from dolphins to birds to sharks
  • Pioneered the first C-section on a shark
  • Hosted thousands of marriage proposals, birthdays, military homecomings, bucket-list wishes, and more
  • Participated in conservation initiatives such as Rising Tide, which helps protect reef ecosystems

And, according to guest research, more than 90 percent of visitors have a greater commitment to conservation following a day at Discovery Cove.

“Throughout the parks 15-year history, the Discovery Cove team has provided millions of guests the opportunity to connect with and be inspired by amazing animals in an environment like no other in the world,” said Stewart Clark, Discovery Cove vice president.
