Construction Walls Are Coming Down at the Magic Kingdom’s Emporium!

A fresh new look is coming to the Emporium at Magic Kingdom, as construction walls inside the park’s largest gift shop are finally coming down! Back in early January, we reported that construction walls had popped up inside the store, blocking walkways and reducing retail space. Now, as the refurbishment nears completion, guests can once again move more freely through the shop, with some noticeable updates to the space.

The work inside the Emporium was more than just a visual refresh—it also included structural changes. A central wall that had long been used to display pins, mugs, and other souvenirs has been removed, creating a more open feel. Additionally, a cash register near Casey’s Corner has been taken out, further opening up the space by removing a register that was lightly used by guests.

One of the biggest changes comes underfoot. The previous wood flooring has been replaced with tile, shifting the feel of the space from warm and cozy to cool and bright. To blend the updated sections with the existing store layout, wood-look tile has been installed in certain areas, softening the transition between the old and new flooring.

With the walls coming down, the Emporium is once again fully accessible, and guests can enjoy a more open, refreshed shopping experience. Whether you’re looking for souvenirs, apparel, or Disney collectibles, the newly updated space is ready to welcome shoppers back in style!

Also included in the area are lovely swirl design flowerbeds. Those are created with multiple shades of pink flowers.

March marks Women’s History Month, a time to honor the contributions of women worldwide. Among those celebrated is Minnie Mouse, a character created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks who first appeared in “Steamboat Willie” (1928). Beyond her creation, Minnie’s voice has been brought to life by a succession of accomplished women, starting with Marjorie Ralston and continuing through Marcellite Garner, Leone LeDoux, Thelma Boardman, Ruth Clifford, Janet Waldo, and the beloved Russi Taylor, culminating in the current voice of Kaitlyn Robrock.

The new system is not yet up and running but guests can see what the new turnstiles look like. Their photo will be taken and then clear doors will open, allowing them to enter the park.

Currently, Cast Members are working at each station to scan guests into the parks manually. This new entry system will be similar to the one installed at Disneyland Paris in 2019.

Universal Orlando Debuts Second Generation Interactive Wands for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

The magic at Universal Orlando Resort just got an upgrade! Universal has officially debuted second-generation interactive wands for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, enhancing the spell-casting experience across Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley.

Rumors had been swirling for months that a new line of interactive wands would arrive alongside the opening of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic at Epic Universe. While the Ministry of Magic won’t open until May 22, 2025, Universal has already rolled out these next-gen wands at both Universal Studios Florida and Universal’s Islands of Adventure—bringing new designs, upgraded technology, and a host of new interactive experiences.

A Magical Upgrade

The second-generation wands are now available for purchase at Ollivanders Wand Shop (Hogsmeade & Diagon Alley) and Wands by Gregorovitch (Diagon Alley). The new wands come in sleek black boxes with a gold wand sticker on one side, though the inside lining varies in color depending on the wand. Each wand purchase includes a redesigned instruction guide labeled “Second Generation Interactive Wand,” which provides details on how to cast spells, where to stand, and a QR code linking to the updated Universal Play App.

Beyond their refreshed designs, these wands now feature illumination effects and haptic vibrations that respond to each spell, offering a more immersive experience. Universal has also expanded the interactive spell locations, adding five new spell-casting spots across Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley, bringing the total up to 30 locations. Several older locations have also received enhancements, with improved effects and better tracking technology for a smoother, more responsive experience.

Connected to the Universal Play App

One of the most exciting new features is the deep integration with the Universal Play App. Guests can now track their spell-casting progress with a personalized Wizard Profile, which assigns House Points based on spell success and unlockable adventures. The top wizards of the day will be ranked on a leaderboard, and the house with the most points at the end of the day will win the House Cup.

Epic Universe Adds Solar-Powered Shade to Parking Lot Ahead of Grand Opening

Universal Orlando’s highly anticipated Epic Universe is nearing its grand debut, and the latest update from the park involves a greener, guest-friendly enhancement—solar panels in the parking lot! Thanks to aerial photos shared by X user bioreconstruct, we now have a bird’s-eye view of the newly installed solar panels that will provide both power and shade for the Prime parking section near the park’s entrance.

While only a few rows of solar panels are visible in the latest images, supports for additional installations can be seen throughout the lot, suggesting more are on the way. The placement of these panels near the entrance has led to speculation that they will generate renewable energy for the area while doubling as shaded parking, a welcome feature for guests visiting the park under Florida’s sweltering sun.

This update comes just weeks after Universal introduced a new fleet of electric buses that will run a loop between Epic Universe and CityWalk, reinforcing the company’s push for more sustainable transportation and infrastructure ahead of the park’s opening.

Speaking of the big debut, Epic Universe is set to open in just over two months, and excitement is building. Blizzard Beach Closing for Refurbishment as Typhoon Lagoon Reopens This Spring

As we head into the Spring season, Disney has updated its park calendar with a significant change for water park fans. Blizzard Beach Water Park is set to close for refurbishment on May 1—the same day Typhoon Lagoon is scheduled to reopen after its own refurbishment. While this operational swap has become the norm in recent years, many guests were hopeful both water parks would remain open together through the busy Spring and Summer seasons for the first time since before the pandemic.

Closing Date Announced for Blizzard Beach Water Park

This news is especially surprising given Disney’s recent announcement of a free Water Park visit on check-in day for guests staying at Disney Resort hotels. With this perk increasing traffic to the water parks, many expected Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon to operate simultaneously to accommodate the additional visitors. However, Disney has yet to provide a reopening date for Blizzard Beach, and the online calendar currently remains blank through August 27—the furthest date visible at this time.

Blizzard Beach’s upcoming closure follows the park’s 30th anniversary celebrations, which will be taking place throughout April. It now appears those festivities will serve as a send-off, with the park closing for refurbishment once the month concludes.

Closing Date Announced for Blizzard Beach Water Park

Since the pandemic, Disney has followed a pattern of alternating its two water parks rather than keeping both open at the same time. Blizzard Beach reopened in November 2024, which was the same month Typhoon Lagoon last closed, and this latest update continues that trend. While guests looking forward to Blizzard Beach will be disappointed, those eager to return to Typhoon Lagoon can mark their calendars for May 1 when the tropical-themed water park makes its grand return.

Even amidst the construction, the show goes on! A poster on the wall proclaims, “The show must go on! At the world famous Carthay Circle Restaurant. The Celebration is open.” To ensure guests find their way, a vibrant red arrow at the poster’s base, clearly labeled “this way,” directs them to the restaurant’s welcoming entrance.

On the left side of the restaurant’s entrance, scaffolding is visible behind the construction walls, specifically positioned in front of the “Carthay Circle” side of the marquee sign. The construction walls extend beyond the two pillars supporting the main marquee, continuing past the check-in podium and reaching the restaurant’s doorway.

Inspired by the historic Carthay Circle Theatre, a 1926 movie palace where “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” debuted in 1937, the restaurant offers a taste of Hollywood’s Golden Age. The menu showcases Southern California cuisine, emphasizing fresh, local ingredients, and features a selection of sophisticated retro cocktails.
