Star Wars: The Force Awakens Will Stream on NetFlix

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” will stream on Netflix, but only in Canada. That is the only place to secure streaming rights thus far.

The reason that it is not streaming here in the US has to do with timing. The timing of when Disney pay-TV distribution deals are up for the taking. In the US, Starz has a deal with Disney that goes to the end of this year. Netflix has a deal with Disney that starts with 2016 movies. Star Wars: The Force Awaken is going to be released this year so that means that Starz will be the chosen one for the movie. It will stream on Netflix, in Canada, about 8 months after it is released in theaters.

You may remember we told you about the new subscription service called DisneyLife that will be launching in the UK. Well, movies from Marvel and Star Wars will not be included in that, Disney might launch subscription services for each of those franchises at some point.

Victoria & Albert’s at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa was once again honored as one of the top restaurants in the United States in TripAdvisor’s 2015 Travelers’ Choice awards.

Victoria & Albert’s, which is also is a AAA Five-Diamond Award winner, recently added a new Chef’s Degustation Menu. This series of 10 small courses features some of Chef Scott Hunnel’s favorite dishes inspired by the seasons, as well as his world travels. The seven-course Chef’s Tasting Menu remains, and the adjacent Queen Victoria Room offers a 10-course menu paired with exclusive wines from the restaurant’s impressive cellar.

Disney Working on new movie based on the Tower of Terror

Tower of Terror 2
Tower of Terror 2

Tower of Terror

There is a new movie idea on the books focusing on one of my favorite rides “Tower of Terror.”  Walt Disney Studios along with Jim Whitaker and John August, producing are setting up the key pieces of the puzzle.   A call out for a screenwriter to take the idea and make it a reality is in the works as the first step.   Whitaker and August came up with the idea to take one of the most popular Disney attractions and make it into a movie.  The Tower of Terror original movie was made for TV back in 1997, while this idea is headed towards the big screen, leaning more towards the concept of the live action films that are in the various stages of production.  Based on the concept of taking a group of people and having them get stuck in an elevator, the studio has shown interest in the development and given the go ahead to move forward.   Although this is still in very early stages,  we will keep everyone updated of news and developments of what is sure to be an amazing Disney movie.

Tower of Terror was reportedly the very first theme park ride turned into a movie, but it was done for television in 1997 and starred Steve Guttenberg and Kirsten Dunst.    The Haunted Mansion movie (2003) and Tomorrowland (2015) were also based on Disney rides and attractions.  What is your favorite movie based on a park attraction –

Disney Reported Several Injuries this quarter

Tree of life
Tree of life

Tree of life

Disney releases their accident and injuries every quarter, and they recently reported that there were 12 injuries that recently occurred in the parks the past 4 months. Disney has to do this as part of a deal they have with the state, so they can avoid public ride safety regulations. The incidents that are reported were incidents that happen on rides and required immediate hospital stays of more than 24 hours.

We recently told you about about a woman that passed away after riding Space Mountain. Most of their incidents happened at the Magic Kingdom, which makes sense it is the most popular park.

The incidents that were reported were:

Magic Kingdom

  •  A 4-year-old girl fractured her finger on the Jungle Cruise
  • A 32-year-old woman with an underlying pre-existing condition had a seizure on the Tomorrowland Speedway
  • An 80-year-old woman passed out and hit her head on the Liberty Square Riverboat
  • A 68-year-old woman became disoriented after riding on the Haunted Mansion
  • A 67-year-old man also with an underlying pre-existing condition got dizzy and suffered chest pain on Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin.
  • 2 incidents occured on the PeopleMover. A 68-year-old man fell and fractured his shoulder while getting off the ride and an 80-year-old man got dizzy and suffered chest pain after getting off the ride.

Epcot:

  • A 46-year old woman hurt her back on the Gran Fiesta Tour

Hollywood Studios

  • A 55-year-old man with an underlying pre-existing condition felt sick and lost consciousness temporarily on the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.

Animal Kingdom

  •  A 1-year-old boy passed out on the Kilimanjaro Safaris. However. he had a rash before he got on and it did get worse after he got on the ride.

Typhoon Lagoon

  • A 10-year-old boy fractured his hip on the Humunga Kowabunga waterslide.

Holidays Around the World At Epcot Is Here Again!

holidays
holidays

holidays

There are several things that I always look forward to each year at Disney: the Epcot Food & Wine Festival, Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, Star Wars Weekends, Candlelight Processional, and of course, Holidays Around the World.  So when I got the details of the return of one of my favorite events, the little girl in me went squee! with delight.

Yes, that’s right, we are in for another amazing holiday season at Epcot with Holidays Around the World starting November 27 and running through December 30!  What is this event, you ask?  It’s enjoying the holidays from different cultures around the World – whether through activities, performances, songs, dances, or food.  Each country has its own festivities that are truly unique and I think it gives that extra special something to the holidays.

Here is a sampling of what you may see at this year’s celebration:

  • American Adventure: Say hello to Santa and Mrs. Claus, and learn about the amazing traditions of Hanukkah and Kwanzaa.  Don’t miss the Voices of Liberty Dickens Carolers and sing along to classic holiday songs.
  • Canada: The Canadian Holiday Voyageurs take you on a musical tour that is unmistakably that of our siblings up North!
  • China: Watch the amazing Chinese Lion Dance!  It is truly a sight to behold, and you know what they say, the spirited dance drives away negativity and evil spirits and brings good luck and happiness to those watching!
  • France: Is that Santa Claus?  No, no, no – it’s Père Noël or Father Christmas! Listen to him tell you all about a letter he received from a special child.
  • Germany: It’s Christmas storyteller Helga who shares the story of the first Christmas tree and her first Nutcracker.  You’ll be sure to want some gluhwein to make the whole experience complete!
  • Morocco: In Morocco, there are several holidays and celebrations!  Your Moroccan storyteller will tell you about festivals that happen across different seasons, including the Rose Festival, the Festival of Dates, the Festival of Marriage, and of course, Ramadan.
  • Italy: In Italy our storyteller is La Befana, who is a witch (a good one!) and whose name stands for gift giver.  Hopefully you were a good boy or girl all year or you might get a lump of coal in your sock!  Did you know that La Befana has been going down chimneys long before Santa Claus was a twinkle in your eye?  She doesn’t have a sleigh, but that broomstick is an effective alternative!
  • Japan: Learn about the amazing and fascinating Daruma doll and all the unique customs of the Japanese for the New Year.
  • United Kingdom: Father Christmas is front and center, and he shares great stories that goes back to England in the 15th century.
  • Mexico: There’s no better reason to have a fiesta than to celebrate Christmas!  Get ready to break out some Feliz Navidad as mariachis and dancers celebrate the holiday season in true Mexican tradition.
  • Norway: Your storyteller, Sigrid, will tell you all about Julenissen, the mischievous Christmas gnome, along with the Christmas traditions of Norway.

And brand new for this year, the a cappella group American Music Machine will also be performing.  I’ve seen them perform this summer, and they are amazing!  Watch them put their own spin on classic and contemporary Christmas songs, like Rudolph the Red-Nosed reindeer, White Christmas, and All I Want For Christmas Is You.

It truly is an amazing time to see the different yet similar ways each country celebrates the holidays.  Whether you know him as Père Noël, Father Christmas, or Santa Claus, or whether you’re counting on La Befana to give you your gifts, or whether you celebrate Hanukkah or Kwanzaa or something else entirely, it’s a wonderful time of year to celebrate togetherness with family and friends.

And so I turn it over to you, dear Disney Addicts.  Have you ever attended Holidays Around the World?  Are you attending this year?  Share your stories in the comments!

500 Stormtroopers Land on The Great Wall of China

A massive show of force took place on Tuesday night as The Galactic Empire landed on the steps of The Great Wall of China. As the third and final trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens debuted earlier this week, Disney has now taken its marketing blitz to the land of The Red Dragon. 500 Stormtroopers were lined in formation on the famous 5,500 foot wall and on display for thousands of fans. Disney also handed out hundreds of red and blue light sabers along with other merchandise to the fans that showed up to the wall which was light up with giant billboard-sized characters reading “The Force Awakens” in Chinese.

The first six Star Wars films were never screened in China and Disney has a new hope that this is just the right strategy to tap into the Chinese market. Disney is doing all it can to bring the Chinese masses up to speed on the Star Wars saga and has even signed a deal to make all six films in the franchise available for steaming through the internet provider Tencent.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens has already set an all time record for the biggest advance ticket sales in history and adding a few billion people into the market might not be a bad idea. The film is set to open December 18th in the U.S. and around the world, but Disney doesn’t have a release date for the film in China as of yet. Tickets are on sale now, and don’t forget about the amazing Fandango exclusive Star Wars: The Force Awakens Sweepstakes.

Adding a little Disney Magic to your Halloween

HALLOWEEN is fast approaching, and I don’t know about you, but I love having a day to celebrate all that is spooky and scary (plus, there’s usually candy involved, which is always good!). If you’re not able to make it to Walt Disney World this Halloween for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, then check out these ways to Add a little Disney Magic to your Halloween

Dress The Part: Costumes are necessary for Halloween – and dressing up as your favorite Disney character is easier than ever – Party City has plenty of options (adult and kids versions are available!), and places like Target, Wal-Mart and Amazon also carry an assortment of Disney costumes this time of the year. Or, if you’re feeling crafty – check out some awesome DIY Disney costume options

Decorating – Disney Style: Let’s say you’re hosting a Halloween bash, or maybe you’re just looking to get into the Halloween spirit – either way, you should definitely use some Disney Pumpkin Carving Patterns for some super unique pumpkins. Halloween Crafts are great to make with the family, and also great to display around the house. Check out some official Disney Halloween Décor for sale here

Eerie Edibles: It isn’t Halloween without some fun treats, right? There’s a bunch of great ideas on the Disney Family website, and Disney baby has some Spooktacular Halloween Treats that you can make with your kids (they aren’t Disney themed, but they ARE easy, fun, and delicious!). A Disney villain theme would be perfect for a Halloween party – check out some great ideas for one here (including how to make awesome Maleficent Cupcakes!)

Another thing you could do to “Disney-fy” your Halloween party is request that everyone come not only in costume, but in the costume of their favorite Disney character – it’s the perfect chance to let your guests get creative! I know I personally will be carving a Disney pumpkin and heading out in my Cinderella costume – but how about you what will YOU do to Disney-fy your Halloween?
