Video goes viral after Ariana Grande was late for Disney Parks Christmas Parade Taping

Christmas parade taping
Christmas parade taping

Ariana Grande was set to perform for the taping of the Christmas Parade, and while she did she showed up 3 hours late. Well time passed slowly, as it usually does when you are waiting on someone. So the crew came up with a way to kill time and entertain the people who were not happy at that point I am sure. The crowd was asked if anyone wanted to perform or tell a joke etc. A few people tried to sing but nothing special, so the mic was passed down the line and a man began to sing but he was really good. He was told to stop immediately, but only because they wanted him on stage. As he continued to sing the crowd was stunned and went silent. He kept on singing while legendary David Foster played the piano.

He is actually not an amateur, his name is Rhett Wheeler. According to his website, he s a Bachelor of The Arts degree from the New School University in New York City. He has traveled the world of course hoping for his big break, hopefully he has now! Everything happens for a reason and maybe that is the reason why Ariana was late performing.

We wish him lots of luck!

The Colortopia exhibit by Glidden paint will welcome park guests to explore the thrilling facets of color and the impact it has on the world them. The Colortopia exhibit invites guests to walk through three unique areas to encounter exciting interactions that bring to life color theory, the psychology of color and the perception of color, all while immersing guests in surprising hands on activities.

Colortopia 2

This new exhibit not only demonstrates that color is a visual treat, but also a dynamic and emotional experience. Your in depth journey into Colortopia will cover over 3,700 square feet, and is expected to last about 30 minutes.

“Combining Glidden paint’s rich tradition of innovation and color inspiration with the creative power of Walt Disney Imagineering was a perfect collaboration to create a one-of-a-kind experience that engages visitors with color in ways they never have before,” said Max Wetzel, chief marketing officer and general manager of home centers, PPG Architectural Coatings, U.S. and Canada, makers of Glidden paint. “With the Glidden brand, we know the important role color plays when selecting paint for your home. Color also has a powerful role in our everyday lives, and it is truly brought to life in the Colortopia exhibit.”

“Starting with Disney’s premier full-color film in 1932, our company has been fascinated by color,” said Melissa Valiquette, vice president, Epcot. “That fascination is evident throughout our parks and our resorts and is why we’re thrilled to collaborate with Glidden as we work together to bring Colortopia to life for our guests.”

Colortopia Exhibit Experience: The Colortopia exhibit by Glidden paint is comprised of three zones where guests can experience color in an entertaining, interactive environment:

  • “The Power of Color” in this special designed standing theater, guests will enjoy a short presentation that explores the psychology of color by immersing guests in a full spectrum of colors.
  • In “The Color Lab”, guests can play Color Mix ‘n Match, an interactive game that allows guests to mix red, green and blue to create bold new colors. A second interactive station, Spinning Spectrums, teaches guests about the persistence of vision through painted spinning discs. Here guests can try to guess what color their eyes will perceive once the multi-colored discs start to spin quickly.
  • In “Color Our World”, guests can play with fun color shadows while they wait to receive a magic paint brush, which they can use in the studio to bring the world around them to life with their personal color choices.

Colortopia by Glidden Paint Mobile App: The Colortopia experience extends beyond the exhibit with the Colortopia mobile app and website, allowing guests to bring a world of colorful fun into their own homes. The palette of options include:

  • In-Park Mobile Interaction – guests can play an interactive color-matching game that responds to the illuminated walls of the pavilion itself, or they can save the colorful murals created in “Color Our World” to continue the fun at home.
  • World Showcase Color Palette – The Colortopia app unlocks Glidden paint color palettes as guests travel around the World Showcase at Epcot. By collecting and saving the unique Glidden paint palettes inspired by each country within the World Showcase, guests can bring home color inspiration from their vacation for use in their own homes.
  • Bring a World of Color Home – The app enables users to photograph and digitally paint their own home spaces and décor using unique Glidden paint color palettes inspired by each country within World Showcase at Epcot as well as 96 other Glidden

Star Wars, Disney and Code.org Launch New Coding Tutorial

Star Wars hour of code
Star Wars hour of code

Star Wars hour of code

Recently, Code.org unveiled a Star Wars-themed computer science tutorial featuring Princess Leia, C-3PO and R2-D2 as well as Rey and BB-8 from the upcoming film Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The online lesson kicks off the third-annual global Hour of Code campaign, in honor of Computer Science Education Week, December 7-13, 2015.

Thanks to Disney and Star Wars, students will learn to write code that allows them to create fun challenges and games using Star Wars characters. Participants will join forces with Rey to guide BB-8 through a space mission, then team up with Princess Leia to build their own game featuring R2-D2 or C-3PO. Students will also be able to play their completed games on smartphones, and share them with friends and family through a unique link.

“For generations, Star Wars has sparked kids’ curiosity and imagination, and we hope the appeal of characters like Princess Leia and Rey will help fuel greater participation in science and math, especially among girls, around the world,” said Kathleen Kennedy, President, Lucasfilm, a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company. “Computer science has helped shape our legacy and changed the way movies are made, which is why programs like the Hour of Code are so important to us.”

This is the second year Disney has worked with Code.org on a coding tutorial featuring Disney characters. Last year’s tutorial — which President Obama participated in at the White House for the Hour of Code last December — has been completed more than 13 million times and tapped Anna and Elsa from Walt Disney Animation Studio’s blockbuster film “Frozen.” More than 100 million students across 180 countries have tried an Hour of Code tutorial, including one in three students in US schools, according to Code.org estimates.

Code.org’s new “Star Wars: Building a Galaxy with Code” lesson for the Hour of Code 2015 aims to nurture creativity and teach logic and problem solving through basic computer programming. There are two versions of the introductory tutorial: one introduces users to the coding language JavaScript for the first time in a Code.org lesson, and lets them create a game in their Internet browser using Code.org’s unique blocks-to-text programming environment. For beginner and younger students, a tablet-friendly drag-and-drop version will be available in the next few weeks. The tutorial will also be translated into more than 40 languages. The tutorial is supported by Star Wars: Force for Change, a philanthropic initiative that harnesses the strength of Star Wars and its global fandom to empower people to come together to make a positive impact on the world around them.

In addition to the lesson, role models and technologists, including Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, Rachel Rose, a Senior R&D engineer working on Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Charita Carter, Senior Creative Producer at Walt Disney Imagineering, have provided short video lectures to help students through the one-hour activity.

“Millions of us have been transported to a galaxy far, far away thanks to the creativity of the team behind Star Wars. Every one of us, especially young boys and girls, should also have the chance to learn how to power our own creativity with computer science,” said Hadi Partovi, co-founder and CEO of Code.org. “Code.org is honored to have the support of Disney and Star Wars on the Hour of Code, making it possible for students everywhere to experience firsthand how this foundational field opens new doors, and can be a lot of fun too.”

“Disney is driven by storytelling and technology—and we know that kids introduced to computer science today will become the innovators and storytellers of tomorrow,” said Jimmy Pitaro, Co-Chairman, Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media. “We are honored to be working with Code.org again this year to introduce millions of students to coding, which is becoming one of the most important languages of their generation.”

In addition to partnering with Code.org to make the “Star Wars: Building a Galaxy with Code” tutorial available for free in more than 180 countries, The Walt Disney Company is donating $100,000 to support Code.org’s efforts to bring computer science education to afterschool programs throughout the United States. One lucky classroom will win the grand prize – a trip to San Francisco, Calif. for an exclusive, behind-the-scenes “Making of Star Wars” experience with the visual effects team who worked on Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The grand prize is courtesy of ILMxLAB, a new laboratory for immersive entertainment, combining the talents of Lucasfilm, Industrial Light & Magic and Skywalker Sound. Sphero, a company that participated in the 2014 Disney Accelerator, will also be gifting programmable BB-8TM droids to 100 participating classrooms. HP Inc has also donated Star Wars Special Edition Notebook devices to 10 participating teachers. And during Computer Science Education Week in December, Disney will host an Hour of Code event for local students at their Los Angeles office, and Disney VoluntEARS will support Hour of Code events around the world.

The “Star Wars: Building a Galaxy with Code” tutorial is the newest addition to Code.org’s online learning platform, Code Studio, which offers a suite of self-guided computer science activities and courses for students to learn the fundamentals of computer science, starting as early as kindergarten.

At a time when the majority of K-12 schools don’t offer computer science, more than 5 million students have enrolled on Code Studio since its 2014 launch, including 10 percent of all K-8 students in the United States. Additionally, 43 percent of Code Studio students are girls, and 37 percent are black or Hispanic.

This reach is substantial, considering women hold only 23% of computing jobs, just 18% of bachelor’s degrees in computer science are awarded to women, and only 22% of high school AP Computer Science exam takers are girls. Furthermore, only 18% of bachelor’s degrees in computer science are awarded to blacks and Latinos and, at the high school level, 9% of AP Computer Science exam takers are Hispanic, and just 4% are black.

Wishing you Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust

Star Wars Launch Bay

Located on the lower level of the Tomorrowland Expo Center, Star Wars Launch Bay is the central space for fans to celebrate all things Star Wars.

  • First Order stormtroopers patrolling the area outside Launch Bay are on a mission to find members of the Resistance. Inside, guests may encounter iconic characters Darth Vader, Chewbacca or even Boba Fett.
  • Inspired by the iconic opening crawl in every Star Wars film, a welcoming text scroll on the carpet will greet guests as they enter the experience.
  • The Cantina is a unique experience inspired by the “hive of scum and villainy” guests will recognize from the Star Wars films. From bounty hunters and smugglers to aliens, guests never know who they may meet here.
  • The Cantina becomes the gathering place to take memorable photos with a holochess or sabacc table. (Sabacc is a popular card game played throughout the galaxy, often with high stakes. Holochess is a chess-like game that utilizes holographic representations of the playing pieces.)
  • Guests may join the Resistance or come to the dark side, choosing a path that takes them into one of two character greeting experiences.
  • When it’s time to meet the character, portal doors open to welcome guests into a fully immersive 360-degree space, inspired by a Rebel base or Star Destroyer.
  • Throughout the space, guests will find Aurebesh writings in the environment. Aurebesh is a writing system used to transcribe Basic, the most used language in the Star Wars galaxy.
  • Guests may play current and upcoming Star Wars video games at the Game Center, including new and exclusive Disney Infinity 3.0 content created exclusively for this experience.
  • Exploring the Light Side Gallery, guests will find replicas of iconic helmets and lightsabers once wielded by Jedi heroes, including Luke Skywalker. And in the Dark Side Gallery, they’ll discover replicas of helmets and lightsabers used by the Sith, mortal enemies of the Jedi.
  • Large-scale replicas of film props, costumes, ship models, droids, artwork and other notable items are on display for Star Wars fans to enjoy.

Disney just posted this sign outside of the Captain EO attraction in the Epcot. It seems Captain EO’s farewell mission is on December 6th, 2015. No further details or information has been released at this time.

I know a few years ago Anonymouse posted some gossip about a Phineas & Ferb Ride coming but with the end of their show on the Disney Channel I doubt we will see them there.

What would you like to see added to the area? I am thinking something Frozen would be nice.

Just kidding!

Disney runs out of newly designs luggage tags

A few months ago, we told you about the newly designed luggage tags that are going to be shipped with your MagicBands. These vibrant and colorful new tags have become extremely popular among Guests, resulting in a higher demand than originally anticipated.

Beginning this week, all Guests will receive the iconic gray luggage tag, featuring Mickey and Minnie, as Disney waits for more luggage tags in the additional colors to arrive. When the other colors return next month, they will once again match the Guests’ MagicBand selections.

I know many people I have talked to have not received any luggage tags. I was just at Walt Disney World for 2 weeks and I never received any in my Magic Band box.

Robin Williams Estate Puts A Stop To Aladdin Prequel

Aladdin3192

Walt Disney Pictures’ announcement of the live action prequel to Aladdin was huge news to many fans. Excited about seeing where Genies came from and how they became, well… Genies, had this entertainment writer ready to reserve her theater seats. Along with a new Aladdin film, was the hope that somehow, our favorite, the one and only, Genie – Robin Williams would somehow be a part of the film.

Recent developments have not only squashed that hope, but placed the film on hold for a long time. The Robin Williams estate in the quest to prevent his image / voice from being exploited after his passing has “bequeathed rights to his name, signature, photograph and likeness to the Windfall Foundation,” a charitable organization founded by Robin Williams. The provision not only prevents his likeness from being used in advertisement but bars anyone from developing a hologram of any of the comedian‘s previous stand-up routines, or ”digitally inserting him into a new film” until 2039.

Walt Disney Pictures is honoring Williams request and will keep all  materials in the vault, placing the Aladdin prequel on hold util further notice.

Save the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights

2015 11 02 18.09.151

Osborne

I am so sad this year is the last year of the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights. Luckily for us we were able to see it one more time before they are taken down and shipped back to the Osborne Family. Many people I have talked to are not able to make it down there to see it one last time, and let’s be honest there is only so much a youtube video can do for you.

I know Anonymouse reported that Disney might be moving the lights to Epcot but after her initial post I have not heard another peep from her.

With all the cosmic forces against us we need a small glimmer of hope, that is what this article is about… Hope.

Over on change.org there is a petition underway to Save the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights. I know what your thinking… Chip those things never work. What if that petition had 100,000 signatures? 200,000 signatures? Do you think Disney might take notice. We will never know until we try. I know for me I don’t want to give up hope.

I will say this we shared a petition many months ago after Disney removed Flik from the Animal Kingdom and when I was at the parks just last week who did I walk by? None other than Flik greeting guests in the Animal Kingdom. So it can happen!

I didn’t start this petition and there looks to be 2 on change.org but this seems to have the most signatures. If you could just CLICK HERE and take the 30 seconds to sign your name, then after you do share this post with someone else and ask them to sign it as well. Then maybe just maybe 1,000 will turn to 5,000 then to 10,000, then 100,000. Then who knows maybe we will see Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights back at Walt Disney World so others can experience the magic year after year.  I mean really if Captain EO is still in Epcot we have a chance right?
