Disney/Pixar Inside Out Bluray Review

IO

Just in time for the Holidays is Disney/Pixar’s Inside Out Bluray!

Do you ever look at someone and wonder what’s going on inside their head? Disney-Pixar’s “Inside Out” takes an exciting and hilarious journey into the mind to find the answer. Based in Headquarters, the control center of 11-year-old Riley’s mind, five emotions are hard at work, led by lighthearted optimist Joy. She strives to make sure Riley stays happy as she operates alongside fellow emotions Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness. It’s “an instant classic,” raves Richard Roeper, Chicago Sun-Times. Experience it like never before on Disney Blu-ray!

I had the pleasure of reviewing this movie after seeing it in the theaters 3 times. I will say this has to be one of the most creative movies of all time and if you have seen the movie already I bet you can hear the opening song in your head right now. If not here it is 😉

Along with the extensive line-up of bonus features including deleted scenes, the theatrical short film LAVA and “Paths to Pixar: The Women of Inside Out,” comes the all-new animated short “Riley’s First Date?”

Here are some fun facts from the movie, the next time you watch it see if you can see them all!

  • The background memories on shelves inside or outside of Headquarters are shots from the “Married Life” scene in “Up.”
  • As Riley and her parents trek to San Francisco, they come across birds on a telephone wire from production designer Ralph Eggleston’s 2000 short film “For the Birds.”
  • The globe in the Riley’s classroom has been used in all the “Toy Story” films.
  • One of Riley’s classmates is wearing a camo pattern made up of “Toy Story” characters.
  • Some of the background city cars of San Francisco have bumper stickers from “Cars.”
  • Dad’s company, Brang, is a nonsense word intended to sound like a startup that would fit in in the San Francisco tech scene.
  • A sign on a parking meter in San Francisco reads, “Quarters and Dollar Coins or Barter During Burning Man.”
  • As a tribute to the Walt Disney Family Museum, the filmmakers set Riley’s hockey rink in the exact spot the museum is located in San Francisco.

My review wouldn’t be complete without some Bonus Footage!

I really think Inside Out is going to bring a bunch of awards this year. It is funny, creative, and the kinda movie that will change the way you think. If you missed it in theaters or have been debating on picking this movie up, I promise you that if you do you won’t be disappointed!

Dining Review- Minnie’s Holiday Dine at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Last week, during my family’s trip to WDW, we were one of the first to have dinner at the newly themed, Minnie’s Holiday Dine at Hollywood & Vine in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  This buffet dinner was very similar to what Hollywood & Vine has offered in the past, making you feel like you stepped back in time to a diner of yesterdays.  But, the holiday decor gave a different feel and it was certainly a feast fit for any occasion!  And let’s not forget the best part….the characters!!

Santa Goofy

Upon arriving at the restaurant, we were escorted inside where we had a photo taken with Santa Goofy.  Then we were shown to our table, ordered our beverages and hit the buffet.  The food offerings seemed endless- from turkey and ham at the carving stations, to an endless array of holiday favorite side dishes- like sweet and mashed potatoes, stuffing, shrimp, and my all-time favorite…green bean casserole!  And the desserts…oh my the desserts!  They were AMAZING!  Dipped marshmallows, peppermint bark, mini pumpkin pies, red velvet cake, chocolate covered strawberries, ice cream and more were waiting for us when we finished our meal.

Dessert

As we dined, favorite Disney characters decked out in their holiday attire made their rounds for photos and autographs.  Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Daisy stopped by the interaction was perfect!  In an effort to makes sure that the characters made their rounds, my autograph frame was taken to the back for the characters to sign.  I loved that they did this because I didn’t have to worry about the mat getting dirty from dinner and it gave me more chances to snap photos.  Holiday tunes played from the speakers and the diners were invited to sing-a-long to some of our favorite Christmas carols.

Mickey

All in all, we had an amazing dinner.  It was a nice way to get into the holiday spirit and a great character dining experience.  This special dining option runs through January 3rd and reservations are a must.  If you are on the Disney Dining Plan, this dinner is 1 Table Service credit.

Enjoy the magic of the holidays in Walt Disney World!  It’s not too late to plan your last minute holiday getaway.  Email me at [email protected] to create some Christmas magic for your family!

espnW Teams with Marvel Comics for “Super” Take on 2015 “IMPACT25” List

espnW has teamed with Marvel Comics to create “super” takes on the 2015 “IMPACT25” list, which recognizes athletes and influencers who have made the biggest mark on women in sports this year – 24 nominees, and The espnW Woman of the Year. A collection of Marvel artists will utilize their various creative styles to highlight the special talents of the honorees and create a super version of each.

To kick off the series, Marvel created an illustration of U.S. Women’s National Team star Carli Lloyd alongside popular Marvel Super Hero, Captain Marvel. Lloyd’s memorable and indefatigable play during the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup resulted in her team hoisting the trophy as champions and earned her the Golden Ball as the best player of the tournament. The full roster and artist renditions of the 2015 “IMPACT25” list will be revealed Monday, Dec. 7, on espnW.com/impact25.

“Each of the IMPACT25 honorees is incredible in their own right, be it on the field or in the boardroom,” said Alison Overholt, editor-in-chief, espnW. “There have been some truly superhuman accomplishments in the last year, and there is no one better than the artists of Marvel to depict these women as the heroes that they are.”

“Marvel’s mission is to celebrate the hero’s journey—and espnW’s IMPACT25 is a uniquely incredible way to do that,” said Sana Amanat, Marvel Dir. of Content Development. “Like our powerful heroes, the IMPACT25 have made a remarkable impression on the world and this is our salute to them. By merging this exceptional group of women with our mighty Marvel artists we are able to truly capture their super human feats in a program that brings together talent from on and off the field.”

As part of the collaboration, the hosts of the Women of Marvel podcast – Sana Amanat, Adri Cowan, Judy Stephens and Emily Shaw – will be guests on the espnW Presents: Be Honest with Cari Champion podcast, debuting December 7, and will also welcome Overholt and espnW deputy editor Jennifer Holmes on Women of Marvel on a date to be determined. In addition, espnW.com will have exclusive behind-the-scenes looks at the process of transforming these real-life heroes into larger-than-life Super Heroes.

Some of the groundbreakers on last year’s IMPACT25 included: The espnW Woman of the Year, Becky Hammon, who became the first woman to hold a coaching position in the NBA; Michele Roberts, who made history as the first female executive director of the National Basketball Players Association; Condoleezza Rice, whose appointment to the College Football Playoff Selection Committee made headlines across the country; tennis star Serena Williams, who overcame several injuries to end the year as the world No. 1; and Little League phenom Mo’ne Davis, whose 70 mph fastball made her a household name.

Wishing you Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust

epcot_flowerandgarden_festival_logo

The 2016 Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival dates have been released! Those beautiful topiaries will be bursting in bloom at Epcot from March 2nd through May 30th, 2016, expanding from 75 days to 90!

To celebrate its 23rd year, the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival will expand to 90 days and run from March 2-May 30, 2016, at Walt Disney World Resort. The popular spring festival previously ran for 75 days.

Fresh farm market flavors at the festival’s Outdoor Kitchens, new Disney character topiaries, interactive play gardens and live rockin’ music will shower spring surprises on park guests.

“Adding 15 extra days to this year’s Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival gives park guests more time to enjoy all the variety our festival has to offer,” says Melissa Valiquette, Epcot vice president. “The festival has become a spring tradition for many who can’t wait to try fresh flavors at our Outdoor Kitchens, dance in their seats at Garden Rocks concerts, explore stunning garden exhibits, grab photo ops with colorful Disney character topiaries and experience memory-making family fun.”

Donald Duck’s mischievous nephews, Huey, Dewey and Louie, will make their topiary debut with Donald and Daisy at the park’s front entrance garden, and Ranger Mickey Mouse in topiary form will appear for the first time to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the National Parks Service launched in 1916 to conserve the country’s natural scenic treasures.

Fresh garden produce, savory bites and sweet treats will be abundant at the festival’s Outdoor Kitchens, returning for a fourth year with guest favorites and new food and beverage offerings. When they’re not noshing along the World Showcase promenade, festival guests can dig in for a hands-on experience during Disney-led gardening seminars or grab a seat for pop musical performances during the Garden Rocks concert series at the outdoor America Gardens Theatre.

FG

The forecast for 2016 festival fun is sunny and bright:

  • In a horticultural nod to the brightest star in Earth’s orbit, Disney gardeners will paint the landscape with golden colors that will begin with a Floral Sun garden behind Spaceship Earth and yellow “sunbursts” that pop up across the Future World landscape. By night, twinkling lights will shine across festival gardens.
  • New culinary creations will star at the festival’s Outdoor Kitchens where, for the fourth festival year, guests can taste garden- and spring-inspired food and beverages and have their complimentary Garden Passports.
  • The first-ever Huey, Dewey and Louie topiaries will feature floral characteristics of Donald’s nephews inspired by a 1943 Donald Duck comic book called “The Victory Garden.”
  • The Ranger Mickey topiary garden in Future World will offer a guest selfie and family photo opportunity featuring a Spaceship Earth backdrop.
  • An innovative new “Fab Five” play garden featuring Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Pluto and Donald Duck topiaries will debut with musical instruments built into children’s outdoor climbing systems.
  • Anna and Elsa topiaries will travel to the Norway pavilion festival landscape after their 2015 debut along World Showcase Plaza in a scene from the blockbuster Oscar-winning animated film, “Frozen.” Nearly 100 topiary characters, including Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Lady and the Tramp, Simba and Peter Pan, will animate the Epcot landscape surrounded by sweeping garden beds and exhibits.
  • The Garden Rocks concert series will present pop bands with music spanning four decades.
  • More than 10 mini-gardens will surprise guests around every corner. A new edible flower garden near Morocco pavilion will showcase petals with flavor.
  • The Butterflies on the Go garden will return with the story of the Monarch’s epic journey across the continent and featuring butterflies emerging from their chrysalises.
  • Disney gardeners will lead weekend how-to Gardening Seminars at the Festival Center, where guests also can pick up signature festival merchandise. Guest experts will conduct complimentary seminars on a wide range of gardening and outdoor living topics.
  • When the sun sets, illuminated topiary and play gardens will glow brightly for an after-dark festival experience.

“We work hard every year to bring new features and fresh fun to our festival,” says Eric Darden, festival horticulture manager. “We’re telling new stories with our flowers and plants, and every year there are surprises for our guests including new Outdoor Kitchen tastes.”

Dozens of Disney-crafted “flower towers” and beds of multi-colored blooms will add to the floral splendor of the park’s landscape.  At least 70,000 bedding plants will surround the Future World east and west lakes alone; on the water, 220 mini-gardens will be set afloat.

For more information about the 23rd Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival, call 407/W-DISNEY (934-7639).  As the festival nears, more details will be available at EpcotInSpring.com. The festival, including all gardening programs and exhibits, is included in regular Epcot admission.

5 Things that Happen Immediately When I Get Home From Disney

EPCOT CHRCON1 7501992273

Meeting Mickey

We got back from Walt Disney World on November 2, and already I am being hit with Post Disney Depression! I want a dole whip, I want to ride Space Mountain, and I want to smell Pirates of the Caribbean (have you ever noticed the particular smell?!)

I know I am not the only person who has these feelings immediately after returning from a magical trip. All Disney fans share the struggles of returning to real life (work, house cleaning, and responsibilities) after Disney. The pain is a little different for everyone, but here is my list of the things that happen immediately when I get home from Disney.

Buyer’s Remorse – within a couple of days of returning home I begin to have Disney’s buyer remorse. But not in the way that you are probably thinking. I have buyer’s remorse for all of the things that DIDN’T buy. Why did I talk myself out of that pillow pet? When will I ever find that super cute Minnie Mouse shirt again? How can I get my hands on the perfect picture frame that I saw but didn’t grab?! Luckily, Disney has recently taken note of this shopping affliction and has provided as with the Shop Disney Parks app, which lets guests buy and ship Disney theme park merchandise as well as locate items in Walt Disney World Resort stores. Phew – tantrum avoided!

Scale Avoidance – we all know there are no calories in Disney, right? Yet somehow I always seem to come home a little, well, with a little more than I came with. For a good month I will avoid my bathroom scale at all costs so that I don’t have to see the devastation that all my amazing meals caused to my waistline. If I put it off long enough, I can just blame it on the holidays!

Start Planning My Next Trip – We started talking about our next Disney trip while we were still at Disney! A good chunk of the fun of a Disney vacation is taking the time to plan one! You get to imagine all the things that you are going to do, eat, and see. You can pick your resort, do your research, choose your Fast Passes…really, it’s the next best thing to actually being at Disney.

Picture Obsession – On this most recent trip we purchased Memory Maker as part of our vacation package and I am so happy that we did! The PhotoPass Photographers did an amazing job capturing our memories and whenever I am feeling homesick for Cinderella Castle I can flip through my album and remember everything. After the pictures are printed, I like to scrapbook them or organize them in an album and it helps to make the Disney magic last a little bit longer.

Annoy My Co-Workers – My poor co-workers! First, they had to deal with me talking non-stop about my Disney vacation plans. Now they have to listen to me talk non-stop about how much fun I had. I just can’t help it though!

Post-Disney Depression is totally real and I totally have it. How do you cope with real-life after you return home? Let me know what your struggles are in the comments!

Monica is an Alumna of the Disney College Program. When she is not walking down the middle of Main Street USA you can find her wandering the World Showcase, or enjoying a Dole Whip while racing to her favorite attractions. Dick Van Dyke to host “Mary Poppins” on “The Wonderful World of Disney” on ABC

Mary

The holidays just got better for this Disney Addict! Target is presenting The Wonderful World of Disney’s “Mary Poppins” on December 12th on ABC – 8:00 pm ET (check local listings for time). It has been 13 years since fans have had the opportunity to enjoy our favorite nanny on television.

Mary Poppins was my first Disney movie and holds a very special place in my heart and childhood memories.   Full of classic songs that we all know and love, the story of Mary Poppins and her time spent with the Banks Family, taught me many lessons.   Jane (Karen Dotrice) and Michael (Matthew Garber) who along with Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews) and her good friend, chimney sweep, Bert (Dick Van Dyke) took us us on incredible adventures.  I learned it’s okay to “love to laugh,”  “Supercalifragalisticexpialidocious” is a word, “A spoon full of sugar” helped the medicine go down easier and you could “Feed the Birds” for just tuppance a bag.

Disney’s Mary Poppins based on the book by P.L. Travers, was and always will be the movie that turned me from a kid who loved Disney to a full fledged Disney Addict for life.

This Entertainment Writer will be recording and sitting in front of my big screen TV with my popcorn and wearing my Disney PJs on December 12th to enjoy Mary Poppins on ABC.   Will you be watching too?
