Shanghai Disneyland is very far behind both cost and production wise, the park may not be opening on the announced June date and it is putting financial stress on US Disney parks.
Although Disney has not yet may any public announcement about any cuts being made you can see them already starting to happen here in the states.
It is being reported that Disneyland in California has already had a 20% cut in labor costs, jobs such as entertainment, custodial, attractions, guest relations, and others have been cut.
Cuts can also be seen in Walt Disney World in Florida; so far 3 Meet & Greets at Epcot, 2 in Hollywood Studios and one in Magic Kingdom have been cut. Also curbside greeters at the resorts are disappearing, hours are being cut from resort front desk and concierge and there is more to come!
And this doesn’t seem to be the end either as Disneyland Shanghai is not yet open and will likely need more money, and it seems the only place to get it from is domestic Disney parks!
There are SO MANY places to eat at Disney World that it can be hard narrowing down how to plan out those Advance Dining Reservations (Or ADR’s). One place that I highly recommend you check out is Tusker House at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. “Why” you might ask?Read on to find out:
Great Atmosphere: The restaurant itself is styled after a “Harambe Marketplace” and is airy and open, with the food items arranged in multiple pods throughout the buffet area. It’s A safari-themed character meal where Donald Duck himself is your host, and once you’re seated and greeted by a cast member, you’re free to “roam the marketplace” and check out the food and décor – there’s so much detail here, and I loved seeing all the little safari items around the building – felt relaxed and exotic at the same time. The service here is great too – polite and quick but doesn’t feel like they’re rushing you (which sometimes happens at character meals!)
The FOOD: There is such a wide range of items offered on the buffet here – at breakfast you’ll find your standard pastries, eggs, meats and potatoes, but you’ll also find dishes like Beef Bobotie (a personal favorite of mine – it’s a spiced quiche dish that you MUST try), Basmati Rice, Mealie Pap, and more. Lunch and dinner offer Samosas, couscous, plantains, tofu, seafood stew and much more – along with some more traditional items like spit roasted meats, vegetable and vegetarian side dishes and salads, and plenty of desserts too (cookies, brownies, baklava, and much more). I can’t say enough good things about the food here – not only is everything fresh and perfectly executed, but the African inspired items are amazing – a perfect way to branch out and try something new (isn’t that what vacation is for, after all?)
Great Characters: Like I said, Donald is the host of breakfast and lunch here (dinner is a character free affair), and he greets you as you arrive and you get the chance to pose for pictures and get autographs and hugs (fun no matter how old you are!). Then you head inside and get to mingle with Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, and Daisy – who all circulate amongst the dining rooms in their SAFARI OUTFITS – that’s right, I said safari outfits – and maybe I am alone on this, but I LOVE seeing characters in different outfits, so this is a real perk for me. The character interaction was great here – we got to see them all within an hour and get our pictures taken with all of them, too
Perfect for the WHOLE Family: Kids will love the characters and kid friendly buffet offerings (PB&J and Mac and Cheese at lunch, and assorted cereal options at breakfast just to name a few!), and adults will love the more exotic dishes, the décor/setting, and the “Adult” beverage menu (mimosas with breakfast or sugar cane mojitos with lunch perhaps?). And like I mentioned, there’s a really big food selection here – picky eaters will surely find something they can eat, and those with more adventurous palettes will be happy too!
Tusker House is a solid dining choice with consistently good food and service, and with something for everyone, you’ll want to be sure you plan to eat there on your next WDW trip (you won’t be disappointed – trust me!)
With all of the closures that have already and will continue to take place at Disney’s Hollywood Studios to make room for both Star Wars and Toy Story Lands it is nice to hear that something new will be joining the Studios line-up.
Two new character meet and greets will be making their debut this spring!
Everyone’s favorite snowman, Olaf, will meet with guests will living his dream – experiencing, “Sun, and all things hot,” on the beach. He’ll be ready to share warm hugs with all those who come to meet him in the new Celebrity Spotlight in the Echo Lake section of Hollywood Studios.
Guests will also be able to meet everyone’s two favorite mice! “Mickey and Minnie Starring in Red Carpet Dreams” will also be opening this spring. Here Mickey and Minnie are also living out their dreams as A-list Hollywood stars! Guest will step into a scene with Minnie who appears in a lush and colorful extravagant setting as a Tinsel Town starlet – all after walking the red carpet. Sorcerer Mickey will also be moving from his current location, near Toy Story Mania, to be near Minnie. This meet and greet will be located near the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant, just off Commissary Lane.
Are you looking forward to the new meet and greets? Let us know!

Hi Disney Addicts! I recently attended the absolutely spectacular special event “Club Villain” on Saturday, February 6th, 2016, and I have been dying to share my excitement about it with all of you ever since I left the event that night! What a blast we had! It is currently being offered at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in the new Sunset Showcase building (next to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster) for a limited time only. This villainous dinner and dance party made it’s debut last month on January 16th, with the original schedule running on Saturday nights only and with only 1 party per Saturday, through the end of February. I was lucky enough to have bought my tickets back when Disney first opened up the reservations in October 2015 and I only paid $99 per person. However, the current price has now increased to $129 per person for all new bookings, as of last week! (Tax and gratuity is included in that price). This very recent price increase also came with a newly updated schedule. The event has been doing so well in it’s first few weeks and with such positive guest feedback that Disney decided to go ahead and extend it through the month of March with more dates and times! The last 2 Saturdays in February, the 20th and 27th, now have 2 parties per night at 4:15pm and 7:45pm. And now, for March only, you can book this event on Tuesdays as well as Saturdays! Every Tuesday in March (the 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th) and also Saturday March 5th have parties at 4:15pm and 7:45pm. Then the times change by a half hour for the remaining 3 Saturdays in March (the 12th, 19th, and 26th) to 4:45pm and 8:15pm. Please keep in mind that this is a separate ticketed event and admission to Hollywood Studios is required, but not included in the ticket price. Also, reservations are required and are pre-paid at the time of booking.
I know what you’re thinking. Is it really worth the high ticket price? In my opinion, YES! The experience we had at Club Villain was worth every penny and I’d go back and do it again in a heartbeat! It had a distinct VIP quality and feel to it. To sum it up in one word, it was phenomenal. It really did blow my mind, far beyond my expectations. I have been to several other similar offerings at Disney World over the years – dessert parties, dinner events and such – but I can’t say the same about all of them. This one was by far the BEST. They really got everything right this time! You may also be wondering if it’s appropriate for kids. Yes, there were tons of kids there on the night we went, having a great time living it up on the dance floor, and our own 2 & 1/2 year old son had the time of his life! He was so well behaved all night because despite the 2 hour long time-frame (which was well past his bedtime), there was so much fun going on to keep him thoroughly entertained throughout the evening. So thanks to the dance floor and character meet & greets, he didn’t have to stay glued to his chair all night, which is such a blessing for an active toddler. This unique event combining music, live performances, dinner, dessert, drinks, dancing, and character interaction really catered well to both kids and adults alike.
Let me tell you more about the details of Club Villain. I had previously been to Club Disney, the daytime character dance party in the same location, so I was aware of the space, the high ceiling, and the large 360 degree screens. Seeing how they utilized these things to design the decor and bewitching atmosphere for Club Villain was impressive. They nailed it! The focal point of the room was the enormous sparkling poison apple disco ball above the dance floor. Other fabulously designed points of interest around the room included the DJ’s stage with it’s bright & colorful backdrop screen, and the 4 sets for each lady villain in attendance – Cruella de Vil, Maleficent, the Evil Queen, and the Queen of Hearts. Each one had her own area to reside in along the side walls of the room and each of these sets looked amazing, with tons of themed detail relevant to that villain, thus creating the perfect photo ops. Evil Queen’s set featured her magic mirror of course, which was completely awesome and would disappear and reappear periodically. Maleficent and the Queens all had magnificent royal thrones to sit upon and Cruella reclined on her plush red sofa. All the lighting effects were very well done – I particularly liked the paw prints that shined on Cruella’s set – and of course they employed lots of smoky effects for the stage and dance floor during performances.
Speaking of the performances!!! The entertainment at Club Villain was so on point. I was not even expecting any performances at all! I was expecting just simply a DJ playing music, a dance floor with the villains wandering around on it (much like other character dance parties), a dinner buffet, bar, & dessert table. Oh no. What I got was so much more! This was a whole production, a dinner show made up of several performances. These are what really made the night, especially the songs performed by the incredible Club Villain manager – “Kanzo.” He was for sure the breakout star of the event, stealing the show from all of the villains! He could sing sooooo very well, like crazy good, that it made me wonder how in the world he wasn’t famous in the music business yet. So he was the super talented emcee for the night, totally killin’ it with his charisma, singing voice, and a mesmerizing glittery neon sugar skull-emblazoned costume. (Sorry, I may have developed a bit of a crush.) Then there was Dr. Facilier, moonlighting as the host of the evening’s festivities, flanked by 2 sexy female dancers who also happened to do a great job interacting with guests during breaks in between the performances.
Kanzo taking the stage!
Kanzo’s fabulous jacket
When you check in for the event, they give you a program that includes signatures for all the villains present, a list of the menu items, your table number, and your assigned meet & greet times. You see, they cleverly scheduled everyone attending to go & visit each lady villain at staggered times to ensure that there wouldn’t be any long lines to see them. This strategy worked perfectly! We had virtually no waits at all to enjoy our one-on-one time with each of the 4 devilish vixens, and Disney Photopass photographers were available at all of them to capture every memorable moment. The rest of the evening you are free to indulge in as much as you want of the food, desserts, and drinks from the 2 “Potions” bars, along with plenty of time allowed on the dance floor in between sets of the show. Alcoholic beverages are included, and in addition to the selection of beer and wine, there were 4 specialty cocktails available inspired by the villains. Cruella offers a “Devious Dalmation” drink which consists of Godiva white chocolate liquor, milk, coconut milk, pineapple juice, and black boba pearls garnish to give that spotted dalmatian puppy look! I had one and it was delish, although my favorite cocktail was definitely Maleficent signature – the “Cursed Violet,” a combination of lemonade, citrus vodka, and creme de cassis – which I would highly recommend. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to try the other 2 from Evil Queen and Queen of Hearts. The line at that bar was significantly longer, so they must have been good because they were popular with guests! Evil Queen’s was a Poisoned Cinnamon Apple (fireball whiskey and hard apple cider) and Queen of Hearts’ was a Bleeding Heart Sangria.
Mardi Gras beads were given out!
The food was all New Orleans themed in honor of Dr. Facilier, spread across 3 different stations. The sauteed station served creamy polenta with fire-kissed corn as well as shrimp with spicy Andouille sausage, tomato, okra, & onions. The carving station served chilled haricot verts with muffuletta vinaigrette, bourbon bread pudding “beignets,” and an herb de Province rubbed striploin of beef with wild mushroom demi glaze. And lastly, the cast iron station served kale & collard slaw with watermelon vinaigrette, dirty rice, black-eyed peas, Cajun chicken thigh gumbo, and “Voodoo sticky pig wings” with citrus gremolata. All of it was quite good, but the kale slaw was my most favorite of all! Other highlights for me were the polenta, beef, and bread pudding beignets. My husband’s favorites were the gumbo and the shrimp & sausage combo. However, let’s be honest here, the food was not the best part of Club Villain. Other than Kanzo & the villains of course, the plethora of sinful desserts on display totally overshadowed the dinner fare as the superior standouts of the evening. Just as with the cocktails, the desserts were also lady villain specially themed, and each lady had not 1, but 2 delectable treats to offer as her signature for a sweet finale. They were all miniature sized desserts, so of course I tried each & every different one for a total of 8. All were stellar, even better than the past dessert parties I have attended, but Maleficent’s “Red Wine Cheesecake Pushup” was the clear winner for me, and the Evil Queen’s “Green Apple Mousse” as well as the Queen of Hearts’ macaroons were also particularly outstanding in my opinion. Maleficent also had a yummy purple angel food cupcake adorned with green icing and chocolate zig-zags to represent her evil horns, while the Queen of Hearts had a red velvet cupcake, naturally, which was very good. Cruella’s were my least favorite – a chocolate tart and a panna cotta – although I did not dislike them at all, I simply just favored the other selections more.
All in all, it was a truly memorable night for my family and we had such a fantastic time!!! Disney really brought their A-game when they developed this event and I am really sad to know it’s only a temporary thing. If you have not had the pleasure, I urge you to splurge and experience Club Villain before it’s gone! You only live once, right? If you have attended this event already and enjoyed it as much as I did, I implore you to please make your feelings known to Guest Relations by dropping them an email at wdw.guest.communications@disneyworld.com. Perhaps they will extend it even longer if there’s enough of a demand for it!

Dining is a huge part of a Disney vacation and there are so many different dining options throughout the parks and resorts. Many of us don’t give the ingredient list any thought, but for some making sure that a dish doesn’t contain certain ingredients can literally mean the difference between life and death. For those that find themselves living this way, know that you can enjoy Disney dining just like anyone else! That’s right, Disney goes above and beyond when it comes to serving those with food allergies.
Today we’re going to talk about the top ten table service experiences for those with food allergies at Disney World. If you missed my Quick Service article check it our here.
When you make a table service reservation be sure to fill out and list your allergies in the special requests section online or have the cast member make note of them if you are making your reservations over the phone.
Disney recommends that those with food allergies contact the dietary service department before your trip to the Disney World Resort to ensure that your needs are met. You can contact them by emailing [email protected] at least 14 days in advance. You should get a response within two days which will include the Guest Allergy Dietary Request form. Guests are asked to fill out this form so that the culinary team can know in advance what will need to be done. This makes it so that that Disney can order any specialty ingredients or already made products or mixes so that they are available when you arrive.
Once you arrive to Disney World it is recommended that you speak with the restaurant manager and/or chef upon arrival at each restaurant, this will help to make your dining experience safe and enjoyable. Many chefs are able change menu items so that they meet your needs. Also, in many cases chefs will go out of their way to prefer something specifically for you. Keep in mind that each and every experience will be slightly different.
I will personally be taking part in all of this at the end of this year for my extended family trip! My younger sister has over 30 food allergies – but from what I have read and heard, she will have a feast available to her at Disney!
Now, onto the list…
Be Our Guest – Dinner in Beast’s castle is table service while breakfast and lunch are quick service, and all three meals are allergy friendly. At breakfast and lunch there is an allergy menu available on the kiosks, this will let you know what ingredients are in each dish as well as provide you with options that will work for you. Can’t eat anything on those menus, don’t worry, Be Our Guest has a scratch kitchen so the chef will be able to provide you with a filling meal. The desserts that are available at lunch and dinner will depend on your specific allergies. For those that only need avoid tree nuts, you will be brought a cupcake without the chocolate pearls – the pearls are not made onsite and therefore have a chance of cross contamination. If you need to avoid eggs, gluten, or dairy you will mostly likely end up enjoying a delicious sorbet. Not matter what you will not be disappointed with a meal at Be Our Guest.
Crystal Palace – At Crystal Palace everyone can dine with Winnie the Pooh and Friends for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. At three meals are served buffet style, and the chef will walk you through the buffet letting you know what you can and cannot eat based on your respective allergies. If there’s nothing that you can eat on the buffet, either because everything contains ingredients you simply cannot eat, or because you feel that dishes that you could eat are too close to dishes that you can’t and there could be cross contamination, the chef with bring you something from the back or make you something fresh. The only certain here could be allergens on chair or characters, so be sure to wipe down your chairs before you sit down and even yourself after meeting characters.
Teppan Edo – This is a great experience, especially if you don’t have a Hibachi in your hometown. When it comes to allergies Teppan Edo is incredibly accommodating – on most occasions you can expect both the manager and the chef to discuss your requirements with you, after all, the chef prepares the food right in front of you. Those will allergies will have their food prepared first on a clean grill to avoid cross contamination, or you can request that your food be prepared in the back for you. Sauces are a large part of Japanese cuisine, but don’t worry, the chefs know exactly what is in each sauce and will only place those that you can have in front of you.
Tusker House – This buffet offers diners the opportunity to meet and eat with Safari Donald and his friends! With it being a buffet there are tons of options for all three meals of the day. The chef will walk your through the buffet to let you know what you can and cannot eat. Chefs will also prepare something or bring something fresh from the back for you so that there is no chance of cross contamination and so that everyone can have something to enjoy.
Le Cellier– This is a small and beautiful steakhouse in the Canada Pavilion at Epcot. The fact that it is a steakhouse makes it so that most of the main course as safe for most, except for if the steaks are topped with butter. (You might think it’s weird, but it is possible to be allergic to meat, but my sister is allergic to most meats that aren’t considered wild game.) Back to the task at hand. Chefs will work with you to make it so that there is something for everyone to enjoy! It is a signature dining experience, and because of this the chefs will go above and beyond even more than at regular Disney dining experiences.
Kona Cafe – Kona is located on the second floor of the Ceremonial House at the Polynesian Resort. What are you hungry for? The chef will most probably find a way to make it so that you can enjoy it! Most things, especially at breakfast, including pancakes and French toast, can be found in a gluten free option. Dine in a beautiful setting and on Polynesian inspired cuisine without having to worry about whether or not your food is safe for you to eat.
Yak & Yeti Restaurant – You can find The Yak and Yeti on the second floor in the Asia section of Animal Kingdom. This is another Asian restaurant, and Asian cuisine is known for involving peanuts, but don’t worry if this is one of your allergies chefs can work to make something special for you! The star here is the allergy friendly lettuce wraps. At this to the list for your next day at Animal Kingdom.
Hoop Dee Doo Review – This is one of my favorite dining experiences on Disney property – it’s dinner and a show! I personally think that the best way to start of this experience is by coming to Fort Wilderness by boat. Once you are seated inside Pioneer Hall the chef will discuss with you what you can and cannot eat from what is regularly served. Don’t worry, they’ll be happy to prepare something special for you if need be, too. One of the best parts of the evening is the strawberry shortcake for dessert. If you can’t tolerate dairy, you can still enjoy a fresh and delicious strawberry dessert.
Jiko – Journey to Jiko, the Cooking Place, at Animal Kingdom Lodge for a sunset dinner on the Savannah. The lighting inside the restaurants changes over the course of the evening to mimic the setting sun. From a food perspective there is lots to choose from, even for those with allergies. If you do your prep work, and make arrangements in advance, some of your meal may even be prepared already for you upon arrival. Be sure to speak with the chef still, safety should always be top priority. If there isn’t something already on the menu that you can eat the chef will modify a menu item or create something new for you if need be!
The Wave… of American Flavors – The Wave is located inside the Contemporary Resort and is a restaurant that is often overlooked. You should not overlook this one if you have food allergies. Just like in most if not all of the other restaurants on property, the chefs here will make it so that you are able to have a meal that you can enjoy without worry. The menu here is extensive for all three meals of the day – at breakfast there is the option of ordering from the menu or going to the buffet, you may even be able to have something straight from the menu, perhaps with slight modifications, if you don’t have too many allergies. Of course, in order to make sure that you are satisfied the chefs will prepare something fresh for you to enjoy as well.
