Epic Universe Team Member Previews Spark Outrage Over Vlogger “Family” Invitations

Epic Universe Team Member Previews Spark Outrage Over Vlogger "Family" Invitations

Influencers Stir Up Controversy by Crashing Epic Universe Family Previews

Just when the excitement for Epic Universe couldn’t get any higher, a new controversy has bubbled up—and it’s not coming from a mysterious bog in Dark Universe.

Universal Orlando is currently in the midst of its second wave of Team Member previews for the highly anticipated Epic Universe, set to officially open on May 22, 2025. These previews are meant to be a well-earned perk for Universal’s hardworking Team Members, giving them the chance to explore the park before the general public. While the first wave only allowed Team Members solo access, the current phase expanded the invitation list to include up to three family members per visit. And that’s where things have gotten… a little less than epic.

Universal made it clear in their communications that these previews were strictly for Team Members and their families—defined as spouses, children, siblings, parents, or those close enough to be considered family. But according to several Team Members on social media, it looks like some people have been stretching that definition like Pinocchio stretches the truth.

Reports are surfacing that influencers, vloggers, and content creators have been sneaking into the family previews by persuading a Team Member to pass them off as their “cousin,” “bestie,” or maybe just that friend you invite to Thanksgiving once (likely for a fee). Once inside, these self-proclaimed “family members” have gone straight into content-creation mode—filming, reviewing, posting, and answering fan questions online, despite strict no-photography policies in place for the previews. While merchandise pics taken off-site are allowed, anything from inside the park? That’s a big Universal no-no.

Universal isn’t taking the situation lightly. Not only is this a violation of the preview policies, but Team Members caught bending the rules could face serious consequences, including potential termination. And for what? A few early clicks and a race to beat the content curve?

Fans online are understandably frustrated. Many see this as influencers gaming the system, taking advantage of a benefit meant to reward Universal’s cast of thousands who’ve worked tirelessly behind the scenes. It also adds an unfair layer to the playing field for both legitimate family members and media outlets patiently waiting for official media days to roll around.

The Team Member Family Previews are currently scheduled to run through April 5. No additional previews have been announced—yet—but let this serve as a cautionary tale: trying to pass as Uncle Bob’s third cousin twice removed for early theme park access? Not worth it.

As the countdown to the grand opening continues, let’s hope the next headline coming from Epic Universe is about how incredible the park is—not about who managed to sneak in early.

Sunshine Corridor Train to Link Disney Springs and MCO, Funded by Tourism District

Next Friday’s meeting of the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Board of Supervisors will include an agenda item to support the ‘Sunshine Corridor’ train project, which aims to connect Orlando International Airport (MCO), Disney Springs, and other destinations.

The agenda item proposes authorizing the District Administrator to negotiate and execute an agreement with FDOT, providing $500,000 for the ‘Sunshine Corridor’ PD&E study. This study, crucial for securing state or federal funding, recently received $2 million from Universal Orlando Resort. The Central Florida Commuter Rail Commission requires approximately $6 million for the study, according to WKMG.

Universal Orlando Resort’s $2 million pledge last month matched a similar commitment from FDOT. While the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District’s $500,000 contribution comes from funds technically outside Walt Disney World, it largely originates from taxes paid by Disney to the district. Further details regarding the CFTOD’s $500,000 are anticipated before next week’s Board of Supervisors meeting.

With Seminole County and the City of Orlando each contributing $500,000, the addition of the CFTOD’s $500,000 brings the total funding for the $6 million study to approximately $5.5 million. As depicted in the graphic, the proposed Sunshine Corridor route would connect MCO to Universal Epic Universe and then to Disney Springs. The PD&E study is expected to take up to two years once funded, with train operation years away, and rail line construction potentially lasting 4-5 years after approval.

New Structure Emerges at Woody’s Lunch Box Construction Site

New Structure Visible at Woody’s Lunch Box

Significant progress is evident at the Woody’s Lunch Box expansion site in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, where the structural framework for a new awning has been constructed.

New Structure Emerges at Woody's Lunch Box Construction Site

Located adjacent to the K’nex tower, the new awning framework is being built at the rear of Woody’s Lunch Box’s seating area. This tower and the immediate surrounding area have been concealed by rolling planters and scrims for several years.

Building on the earlier installation of red and blue vertical poles, the site now features additional poles and a connecting green roof frame. These poles echo the K’nex-inspired supports of the adjacent tower.

New Structure Emerges at Woody's Lunch Box Construction Site

Unlike the awning built three years ago, which remains inaccessible to guests, the new structure is situated closer to the Woody’s Lunch Box cash wraps. That prior awning, intended to expand shaded seating, and the Cowboy Cookin’ Set building further back, have both remained closed.

Three poles stand unconnected to the green frame, suggesting a potential extension of the shade structure. Black tubes and wires at the pole tops indicate future lighting installations. Woody’s Lunch Box continues to operate during construction.

A significant complaint about Toy Story Land, which debuted at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in June 2018, has been its limited shade. For a considerable period, Woody’s Lunch Box was the land’s sole dining option, offering scant sun-exposed seating. Roundup Rodeo BBQ, a table-service restaurant, later opened in 2023.

The “Voyage of the Little Mermaid” billboard, which had stood since the show’s 1992 debut (replacing “Here Come the Muppets”), was recently removed on March 10, 2025. This followed the show’s permanent closure, announced in December 2023 after its extended absence post-2020 COVID-19 closures. Construction walls appeared in summer 2024, and while the marquee was repaired in late 2024, sparking reuse speculation, it was ultimately removed in late January 2025. The billboard, like many in Central Florida, had deteriorated from sun exposure.

“The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure,” the replacement show, will incorporate puppets, live performers, and digital characters, including a large-scale Ursula. Originally slated for fall 2024, its debut is now set for summer 2025. The show will feature familiar songs from the original animated film, including “Daughters of Triton.”

Dark green scrim has been installed along the wall separating the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster queue from the Sunset Showcase Theater, formerly Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy, on Sunset Boulevard.

Installed from the covered part of the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster outdoor queue, the scrim runs halfway along the wall, preventing any view past it.

At the wall’s end, rolling planters define the boundary between attractions. Above the scrim and hedge, remnants of Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy, including its outdoor stage, are still visible.

To accommodate the upcoming “Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After” stage show, Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy, a 10-minute attraction featuring an animatronic Lightning McQueen and a virtual race against Chick Hicks, permanently closed on October 7, 2024.

The “Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After” show, with an approximate runtime of 40 minutes, is slated for a Summer 2025 premiere, though a specific date has not been announced.

“Snow White” Box Office Opening: $43 Million Domestic, Below Disney Remake Expectations

Disney’s live-action “Snow White” debuted with $43 million at the domestic box office and $87.3 million globally, falling short of the studio’s typical performance for its live-action adaptations of animated classics. The film, which carried a substantial $270 million budget, opened on par with 2019’s “Dumbo” ($46 million) but significantly trailed behind other Disney remakes such as “The Little Mermaid” ($95.5 million), “Maleficent” ($69.4 million), and “Cinderella” ($67.8 million).

Snow White Opening Weekend Below Expectations Compared to Other Disney Live-Actions

The opening weekend figures raise questions about the film’s potential to recoup its large production costs, as it faces competition from other releases and will need strong sustained performance both domestically and internationally. The film’s performance will likely be closely watched in the coming weeks to determine its overall financial success.

Snow White Opening Weekend Below Expectations Compared to Other Disney Live-Actions

It’s worth noting that the original animated “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” released in 1937, was a groundbreaking cinematic achievement and a massive box-office success for its time. That film’s cultural impact and enduring popularity have set a high bar for any subsequent adaptation. The stark contrast in the initial box office performance between the 1937 animated film and this new live-action version highlights the evolving landscape of filmmaking and audience expectations, as well as the inherent challenges in reimagining such a beloved classic.

Nestled in the Coachella Valley, Cotino presents an unprecedented opportunity for Disney enthusiasts: a meticulously designed neighborhood featuring multi-million dollar residences, an exclusive private lounge reminiscent of Club 33, an Incredibles-themed clubhouse, and a Disney chef-operated restaurant, effectively offering the closest experience to residing within Disneyland itself. This spring, the vision becomes reality as the first residents begin moving into this Walt Disney Imagineering-crafted community in Rancho Mirage.

$4 Million Homes in Disney's Cotino Neighborhood Welcome First Residents

Disney’s inaugural Storyliving community, a master-planned neighborhood encompassing 300 homes in the Palm Springs area, marks the beginning of a unique residential experience “inspired by world-famous Disney placemaking,” with further developments planned. This 618-acre property, strategically located between Monterey Avenue and Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra, and Gerald Ford drives, holds the potential for expansion to 1,700 homes and 400 hotel rooms. Marketed as a “creative oasis,” this desert community caters to Disneyland enthusiasts seeking to integrate Disney’s magic more deeply into their daily lives.

Cotino offers a range of living options, from smaller cottages, beginning in the upper $1 million price range and featuring 2,200 square feet with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, to expansive estates, starting in the upper $4 million range, boasting 7,200 square feet with five bedrooms and five bathrooms.

For those seeking exclusive amenities, the private Artisan Club, Cotino’s equivalent to Disneyland’s Club 33, requires a $20,000 initiation fee and annual dues between $11,000 and $19,000. This voluntary membership, ultimately accessible to both Cotino residents and non-residents, grants access to the Cotino Bay waterfront clubhouse, the Architects Fork restaurant, the Plot Twist outdoor bar, the Parr House event space, a Disney-operated creative studio, and a private beach along a 24-acre man-made lake.

$4 Million Homes in Disney's Cotino Neighborhood Welcome First Residents

Overlooking Cotino Bay, the Pixar-themed Parr House will provide an exceptional entertainment space, featuring a grand entertaining room with a striking rockwork fireplace, alongside five bedrooms, a kitchen, dining room, boardroom, and art studio. Its mid-century design pays homage to the Parr family mansion from Pixar’s “Incredibles 2,” mirroring the film’s iconic cliffside residence with its floor-to-ceiling windows, indoor rock formations, and infinity pool, albeit without the fictional mansion’s elaborate surveillance and remote-control features.

Artisan Club members will have the opportunity to rent the Parr House for celebrations and limited overnight stays, and Disney will host exclusive Storyteller’s Dinners as part of the club’s event schedule. The Cotino Bay Clubhouse will further enhance the club experience, offering a swimming pool, wellness center, fitness facilities, and outdoor tennis and pickleball courts. Both the Artisan Club and the Parr House are slated to open this fall.

An exclusive, members-only beach will provide a range of aquatic activities, including heated swimming areas, shaded seating, paddleboarding, and kayaking. Disney will curate a diverse entertainment program, featuring signature events, live performances, seasonal festivities, cooking and art classes, seminars, speaker series, health and wellness initiatives, and philanthropic activities. Furthermore, the Disney entertainment team will organize excursions, day trips, and extended vacations for club members. Cotino will also feature several parks accessible to all residents, catering to various demographics, such as the family-friendly Little Desert Park, the senior-focused Longtable Park, and an equestrian-themed dog park. Non-residents will have the option to purchase day passes for access to a public beach and recreational water activities along Cotino Bay.
