Disney Shareholders Reaffirm Commitment to LGBTQ+ Inclusivity, Reject Proposal to Exit Corporate Equality Index

At The Walt Disney Company’s 2025 Annual Meeting of Shareholders, investors delivered a decisive message: inclusivity remains a core value. In a resounding 99% to 1% vote, shareholders overwhelmingly rejected a proposal calling for Disney to withdraw from the Human Rights Campaign’s (HRC) Corporate Equality Index (CEI), reinforcing the company’s long-standing commitment to LGBTQ+ workplace equality.

Disney Shareholders Unanimously Reject Proposal to Remove Company from Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index

The CEI, published annually by the HRC, is a widely recognized benchmark that evaluates U.S. businesses on their LGBTQ+-inclusive policies and practices. Companies are scored across key areas such as inclusive benefits, workplace protections, and corporate social responsibility. Disney earned a perfect 100 on the 2025 index, reflecting top marks across all categories—including full points for both Inclusive Benefits and Corporate Social Responsibility.

The rejected shareholder proposal criticized the CEI as “partisan, divisive, and increasingly radical,” referring to it as a “social credit score” that pressures corporations into political activism. It also claimed that Disney’s alignment with the CEI contributed to recent declines in its stock value—a notion the Board did not support.

Disney’s Board of Directors formally recommended shareholders vote against the proposal, citing three key reasons:

  1. Transparency: Disney participates in external surveys like the CEI to provide visibility into its policies and practices—something that supports, rather than detracts from, shareholder value.
  2. Board Oversight: Matters of workforce equity, human rights, and ESG reporting are actively managed by the Board and its committees.
  3. No Added Value: The Board did not believe ceasing participation in the CEI would deliver any benefit to shareholders.

With 99% of shareholders siding with the Board, the vote sends a clear message: the Disney community supports transparency, diversity, and equality—and sees these principles as aligned with the company’s long-term success.

Additional Highlights from the 2025 Annual Meeting

While the CEI vote drew attention, the meeting also included some exciting updates from CEO Bob Iger. Fans can look forward to:

  • A potential new Disney+ series starring Figment, the beloved Epcot dragon.
  • Coco 2 officially in development at Pixar, bringing a sequel to the beloved Día de los Muertos-inspired story.
  • A first look at a scale model of the upcoming “Lion King” Pride Lands attraction, set to debut at Disneyland Paris.

In addition, all current members of Disney’s Board of Directors were re-elected with a 96% approval vote.

Disney’s 2025 Annual Meeting of Shareholders reaffirmed not only the company’s creative future, but also its unwavering commitment to inclusion—a core value that continues to resonate with its investors, employees, and fans alike.

Overhaul of Grand Floridian Lobby & Convention Center to Be Refurbished Through 2025

Grand Floridian Lobby Refurbishment Confirmed for 2025—Here’s What We Know So Far

The long-anticipated enhancements to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa are finally moving forward. Starting in April 2025 and continuing through November, select areas of the resort—including the lobby and convention center—will undergo phased refurbishment. While the updates have been a topic of speculation (and concern) among Disney fans for years, Disney is reassuring guests that the resort’s signature elegance isn’t going anywhere.

According to a notice shared on the Disney Vacation Club website, guests can expect to see and hear construction during daytime hours, and portions of the lobby will be closed at times. However, all pools, most dining locations, and other amenities will remain available throughout the enhancement period. Guests are also encouraged to allow extra time for travel around the resort, as path adjustments may be in place while work is underway.

What’s Changing—and What’s Staying the Same

While Disney has kept most of the lobby details under wraps, they’ve acknowledged that updates are coming—and have stressed that they will “maintain the classic theming you know and love” with some “fresh new enhancements.” This response came after considerable fan pushback to early rumors suggesting a full modernization of the space.

The refurbishment was originally announced back in 2022 but delayed for three years. Many trace the overhaul back to then-CEO Bob Chapek, who reportedly felt that the Grand Floridian wasn’t meeting the standards of a top-tier Disney resort when he took over the Parks division in 2015.

Overhaul of Grand Floridian Lobby & Convention Center to Be Refurbished Through 2025

That modernization initiative began with the transformation of Mizner’s Lounge into the Enchanted Rose Lounge in 2019, a luxurious Beauty and the Beast-inspired space. Cítricos followed, reopening with whimsical new Mary Poppins theming. Later, guest rooms and guest room buildings received refreshed interiors, also nodding to the practically perfect nanny, while the Grand Floridian Spa was remodeled in 2022.

So far, most of these updates have walked the line between fresh style and timeless elegance, keeping the Victorian charm of the Grand Floridian intact—something fans hope will continue with the upcoming lobby work.

Timing and What to Expect as a Guest

Overhaul of Grand Floridian Lobby & Convention Center to Be Refurbished Through 2025

If you’re planning a visit to Disney’s Grand Floridian in late spring through fall of 2025, be prepared for some visible construction. The lobby work will begin after the Easter season, meaning you’ll still be able to enjoy the stunning chocolate egg displays and The Grand Cottage one more time before changes begin.

Though certain portions of the lobby may be temporarily closed, Disney promises that the magic will still be flowing throughout the resort. Whether you’re relaxing by the pool, enjoying afternoon tea, or dining at your favorite Grand Floridian restaurant, you’ll still be immersed in the resort’s signature charm—even if a few pathways are rerouted along the way.

The Big Picture

The Grand Floridian has always been Disney’s crown jewel—a flagship resort steeped in old-world luxury. While change is inevitable (and, in some ways, necessary), Disney appears committed to keeping the Grand as grand as ever.

We’ll be keeping a close eye on the progress and sharing updates as they come. Until then, guests can rest assured that the spirit of the Grand Floridian isn’t going anywhere—it’s just getting a bit of a royal polish.

New Permit Filed for Star Tours at Hollywood Studios — Set Elements Incoming?

A new spark of activity has just hit Star Tours – The Adventures Continues at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and the Force is definitely stirring. Walt Disney Imagineering has officially filed a Notice of Commencement for work at the iconic attraction, with the description simply reading: “Install set elements.” The listed contractor? ThemeWorks, Inc.—a familiar name among Disney insiders.

ThemeWorks has previously collaborated with Imagineering on immersive projects like Toy Story Mania and the now-retired Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, so their involvement here has fans buzzing. Could this mean a visual refresh for the Star Tours queue? A new storyline element? Or maybe even changes beyond the attraction itself?

Interestingly, the same address listed on the permit also corresponds to Tatooine Traders, the Star Wars-themed gift shop that guests pass through after exiting the ride. So it’s just as likely—at this point—that the set elements are destined for a retail reimagining rather than the simulator experience.

This development comes amid a period of quiet expansion for Star Tours – The Adventures Continue, which has been steadily adding destinations inspired by The Mandalorian, Andor, and Ahsoka. While Disney hasn’t announced any new updates tied to this permit, fans know that where there’s a permit, there’s usually pixie dust (or maybe space dust) in the air.

Whether it’s a new galactic journey, a refreshed outpost marketplace, or something totally unexpected, one thing’s for sure: we’ll be keeping our scanners locked on this one.

More Epic Universe Team Member Costumes Revealed – Vikings, Chocolate Bears, and Mysterious Black Uniforms

Epic Universe is inching closer to its grand debut on May 22, 2025, and the excitement just keeps growing. This week, Universal Orlando fans were treated to a new look at some of the Team Member costumes that will bring the park’s immersive lands to life. Shared by UOTMLife on Instagram, the post not only thanked employees for helping make the Exclusive Team Member Preview a success—it also revealed three distinct new costume styles that hint at the stories waiting to unfold in the park.

The first photo shows two Team Members wearing sleek, all-black outfits with a serious, almost ominous tone. Each costume includes two buckles near the neckline and a wide belt cinched tightly at the waist. Paired with solemn expressions, these uniforms are giving major mysterious energy. While the post doesn’t specify the land, given the style of the costume as well as the background, it appears these costumes may be for team members working at the Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment dark ride in Dark Universe. If so, they’re perfectly suited for a world full of intrigue, suspense, and maybe even a few jump scares.

In contrast, the next costume reveal is all charm and sweetness. Team Members are shown in polished, business-casual attire while holding none other than Captain Cacao—a brand-new chocolate bear character who will call Moonship Chocolates & Celestial Sweets home in Celestial Park. With soft colors and a more refined style, these costumes suggest a land that’s whimsical and elegant, with just the right amount of confectionery cuteness. Captain Cacao already looks like a breakout star, and we haven’t even met him in person yet.

The final image takes us straight to the Isle of Berk, home of the How to Train Your Dragon land. Two Team Members are pictured in Viking-inspired gear that reflects the warm, rugged feel of the dragon-filled world. One wears an orange vest layered over a rustic brown shirt and matching pants, accented with a simple brown belt. The other sports a green top under a purple vest, with a tan and red belt completing the look. These costumes feel handcrafted and full of character, exactly what you’d expect from a village of dragon riders.
