How to Find Your Favorite Characters In The Parks Using The My Disney Experience App

Me and Pluto

Me and Pluto

Anyone with young children (or young at heart themselves) knows that sometimes the success of a Disney World vacation depends on seeing that one special character. Whether it’s a beautiful queen with magical ice powers, an orange rolling droid named BB-8, or the main mouse himself, we all have our “must meets” when we visit Walt Disney World.

The question is how to find them! Many people don’t realize that the answer is already in their hands. The “My Disney Experience” App makes it incredibly easy to find your favorite Disney characters at each of the parks. The best part is it’s FREE!

Here is a quick tutorial on how to use this simple tool so you are ready to go once you hit the parks.

My Disney Experience

First open the app and log in. You will see an interactive map that includes all four parks. There will also be a banner across the top of your screen. The first heading you see is “Wait Times”. Swipe left on the banner until you see “Characters”.

Now zoom in on the park that you are interested in. Every Mickey silhouette represents a different character that will be available to meet that day. Select a silhouette to get more information on who that character is.

In this example I selected Princess Fairytale Hall which is home to multiple princesses. Select the princess you are interested in to get more details.

This will pull up the hours and the location that the character will be meeting guests.

There is even an option to “Get Directions”. The “My Disney Experience” app will give you step-by-step directions on how to get from your current location to your character destination.

So now your thinking, “OK well what if  I don’t know which park my character is located at”. No Problem! On the interactive map there was a little symbol in the bottom right-hand corner of the map that looks like the image shown above.

Selecting this symbol will give you a full alphabetized list of all the characters appearing across all the parks. Simply scroll through the list and make your choice.

Once the character is selected it will display their appearance times. You will also have a choice of finding that character on a map or getting walking directions to their location.

The “My Disney Experience” app can be downloaded in the Apple App Store or Google Play from your mobile device.

Hopefully this tutorial helped! Do you think you will use this character locating feature next time your in the parks?

Magic Kingdom’s Tortuga Tavern Debuts Mickey Mouse Pirate Glow Cup

Magic Kingdom's Tortuga Tavern Debuts Mickey Mouse Pirate Glow Cup

Tortuga Tavern, in Magic Kingdom’s Adventureland, is probably best known as the place to purchase one of the infamous Turkey Legs.  We were there for that very purpose when this adorable glowing cup caught our eye.  The Magic Kingdom’s Tortuga Tavern in Adventureland debuts the new Mickey Mouse Pirate Glow Cup.

One side of the cup features Mickey Mouse as a Pirate with the Cross-Swords behind him.  The cup glows in a flashing pattern, a blinking pattern, or a solid pattern of green, blue and red lights.

The front of the cup features a skull face and looks more frightening without liquid in it!  Some of you, like ourselves, may be saying, “Where have I seen this Mickey Mouse Pirate Glow Cup before?”  If you have ever experienced a Pirate Night on one of the Disney Cruise Line Ships, you may have seen these cups there.

Magic Kingdom's Tortuga Tavern Debuts Mickey Mouse Pirate Glow Cup

We were, apparently, the very first people to ask about this new cup.  Our new Friend, Cast Member Grace, told us that the Mickey Pirate Glow Cup had just been put out about 5 minutes prior to us asking.  We were the first to purchase one of these new cups and Grace was pleased to be the first Cast Member to complete the sales transaction for this fun new cup at Tortuga Tavern.  The cost for this Mickey Mouse Pirate Glow Cup,including tax, is $7.79 and includes a fountain beverage of your choice.  Enjoy that cake Grace!

Magic Kingdom's Tortuga Tavern Debuts Mickey Mouse Pirate Glow Cup

The bottom of the cup explains how to change the battery.  A couple of really important informational notes to make here are that this cup is not dishwasher-safe or microwave-safe.  It is a hand-wash only, clear, acrylic cup.  You can find this Mickey Mouse Pirate Glow Cup in Adventureland’s Tortuga Tavern, across from Pirate’s of the Caribbean.

Here is our video of this fun cup:

Trilo Bites Smokey Bones Chocolate Shake With Bourbon and Candied Bacon Review

Trilo Bites Smokey Bones Chocolate Shake With Bourbon and Candied Bacon Review

Have you ever had a chocolate shake with Bourbon?

If you are wondering what something like that might taste like then you may want to head over to the Animal Kingdom at the Walt Disney World Resort.  Trilo Bites, a food kiosk in Dinoland, offers the Smokey Bones Chocolate Shake with Bourbon and Candied Bacon.  Here is our review of this shake.

Trilo Bites Smokey Bones Chocolate Shake With Bourbon and Candied Bacon Review

Wait, did you say Candied Bacon?  When we saw this on the menu, we knew this was a Chocolate Shake we had to try.  We are not too fond of Bourbon, but we were quite curious about what it would be like in a Chocolate Shake.  To be honest, we were all about the candied bacon in this interesting combination of ingredients.

We asked the young lady behind the counter how the shake was made.  You begin with chocolate soft-serve ice cream, add the bourbon and blend with a chocolate mix.  After you pour the blended ingredients, top with whipped cream and a strip of candied bacon.  Now, as I mentioned, we are not big fans of Bourbon and this ingredient completely overpowered the shake.  We found that if we dipped the candied bacon into the shake, and nibbled it that way, the shake had a good flavor.  If you enjoy the strong smokey flavor of Bourbon, then you will enjoy the Smokey Bones Chocolate Shake.  If you do not enjoy Bourbon then this will be a pass for you.  One thing we did like about this shake, other than the Candied Bacon, is that the chocolate mix, chocolate soft-serve, and Bourbon are all blended together.

Is a Nighttime Parade Returning to Walt Disney World?

MSEP

MSEP

Rumors are circulating that the Paint the Night Electrical Parade is all packed up at Disneyland and ready to be shipped out to a new Disney Destination. However, the exact destination the parade is headed is still uncertain.

Disneyland currently has a few nighttime shows and a few more scheduled to debut in the upcoming months. The Main Street Electrical Parade that was previously at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World made it’s debut at Disneyland in January of this year and is scheduled to run through August. Fantasmic is also scheduled to make it’s return to Disneyland this summer. Reports also have pointed to a new Disneyland fireworks show premiering in the early part of 2018. Sounds to me that Disneyland definitely has a nighttime show to spare!

So, where is Paint the Night going to go? Personally, I think it will end up at the Magic Kingdom. The Main Street Electrical Parade left the Magic Kingdom for Disneyland this past Fall and has been missed by all. Sure, the Magic Kingdom just premiered the Happily Ever After Fireworks but they used to run Wishes and The Main Street Electrical Parade in the past at the same time. With the addition of Star Wars Land, Hollywood Studios does not seem like a viable candidate in it’s current state. Animal Kingdom and Epcot have never hosted a large scale parade.

We also can’t forget about the Disney Parks abroad. Currently, Disneyland Shanghai and Disneyland Paris are without a nighttime parade.

Paint the Night first debuted at Disneyland in May of 2015 at part of Disneyland’s Diamond Celebration. It ran through September 2016 and returned for a brief appearance during the Holiday Season of 2016.

Where do you think the Paint the Night will end up?

Classic Space Mountain Returns to Disneyland Park to Celebrate 40th Anniversary

Space Mountain Disneyland

Space Mountain Disneyland

Announcing the return of classic Space Mountain to Disneyland Park! Starting June 1st, Tomorrowland guests will once again be launched on an intergalactic journey through the cosmos. Saturday May 27th, this beloved attraction will celebrate its 40th anniversary. What better way to mark this occasion than by bringing back the original version of the ride just a few days later. Over 450 million guests have ridden Space Mountain and enjoyed its many other themes like Hyperspace Mountain and Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy since the attraction opened.

In honor of Space Mountain’s birthday, here are some fun facts about the attraction that span across its 40 year run:

  • The opening ceremony for Space Mountain in Disneyland Park took place on May 27, 1977.
  • The ceremony was attended by the original crew of Project Mercury: Captain Scott Carpenter, Colonel Gordon Cooper, Senator John Glenn, Captain Walter Schirra, Admiral Alan Shepard and Donald “Deke” Slayton, along with Betty Grissom, widow of former Mercury and Apollo 1 astronaut Gus Grissom.
  • The summer that Space Mountain opened in 1977 saw new attendance records set at Disneyland.
  • The idea for Space Mountain originated with Walt Disney way back in 1964. He wanted to build a roller-coaster-style ride but in the dark, which no one had ever done before. With the technological explosion in the late 1960s and into the 1970s, the team of Walt Disney Imagineers were able to utilize lighting, music and pinpoint projection technologies to finally transform Walt’s dream into a reality.
  • Space Mountain at Disneyland was built on the site previously occupied by the Flying Saucers attraction (1961-1966).
  • Space Mountain was only the second attraction to premiere first at Walt Disney World in Florida, then in California. (Country Bear Jamboree was the first.) Space Mountain opened at the Magic Kingdom Park in Walt Disney World in 1975.
  • When the attraction opened at Magic Kingdom Park in Florida, it was the first computer-controlled thrill ride and the first Disney attraction to use computers in its design.
  • In order to preserve the scale of Tomorrowland buildings in Disneyland, the base of the Space Mountain structure is set 17 feet below ground level.
  • The design of the “Space Probe DL05,” suspended over the Spaceport boarding area inside Space Mountain, was inspired by the iconic Discovery One spacecraft from the classic 1968 science fiction film “2001: A Space Odyssey.”
  • An onboard musical score to accompany the rockets as they rush, plummet and turn through Space Mountain was first added in 1996. Composer Aarin Richard worked with Disney Imagineers to fuse two musical forms of the 1960s, surf music and Sci Fi sounds. The score was based on Saint-Saens’ “Carnival of the Animals, featuring synthesized music that culminated in the beach-sounds of guitarist Dick Dale.
  • From 2003 to 2005, Space Mountain underwent a major refurbishment. The track was recreated, using the same layout as the original design, and the attraction featured a new generation of effects, lighting, music and technologies. A highlight was the addition of the unique rotating rings through which guests travel as their rockets voyage upwards toward their Space Mountain flight.
  • The attraction’s 2005 “re-launch” featured, as guest of honor, astronaut Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon.
  • The enhanced 2005 Space Mountain featured a new musical score by Academy Award and Emmy Award-winning composer Michael Giacchino (“Lost,” “Mission Impossible: III” “Ratatouille,” “Up”). The new score employs the eerie sounds of the theremin, an early (1920s) electronic musical instrument, along with other electronic and classical instruments.
  • Space Mountain is an adaptable attraction and undergoes special transformations from time to time:
    • In summer 2006 it became “Rock It Space Mountain” with separate daytime and nighttime experiences including Grand Night 2006. The nighttime version incorporated the song “Let It Out” by Hoobastank.
    • The following year brought “Rockin” Space Mountain” for several months through April 2007 as part of “The Year of a Million Dreams.” It featured the song “Higher Ground” by the Red Hot Chile Peppers.
    • The Halloween-inspired Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy debuted in 2009 and has become a Halloween Time tradition at Disneyland. Through the use of projections and other special effects, guests are blasted into an uncharted section of the universe full of ghostly apparitions, creepy sounds and haunting music.
    • Space Mountain launched into a galaxy far, far away in November 2015 for the Star Wars Season of the Force. Guests in Hyperspace Mountain find themselves in an action-packed battle between Rebel X-Wing and Imperial TIE Fighters.

Ready to take a galactic journey on Space Mountain? There are still fantastic 2017 Summer and Fall packages to be had. Fill out our form below to receive your FREE quote.

Fall 2018 Itineraries to Bermuda and Quebec

Disney Cruise Line has announced some very exciting news! New destinations to Bermuda and Quebec City, Canada have been added to the recently announced 2018 Fall itineraries. Sailing from New York, guests will have multiple days to explore each of these new ports. Itineraries from New York will also offer the ultimate Disney vacation. Three special sailings will take guests to both Disney’s private island in the Bahamas, Castaway Cay and to “The House of the Mouse” Walt Disney World! As of this wasn’t enough, Disney Cruise Line will also offer additional sailings from California, Texas, and Florida during the 2018 fall season.

New sailings to Bermuda from New York

For the first time, Disney Cruise Line guests can sail to the beautiful island of Bermuda. Each of the five-night sailings includes two full days in Bermuda, while one special six-night sailing includes three days there.

An idyllic setting for outdoor enjoyment, Bermuda offers its famous pink sand beaches and a range of water activities. Shopping and sightseeing are plentiful and, at only 21 square miles, the island is easy to navigate and explore. With its own distinctive blend of British and Caribbean culture, Bermuda boasts a rich history in sailing, a passion for cricket and a truly unique national attire – Bermuda shorts.

Disney Magic cruises to Bermuda from New York set sail in October 2018.

New cruises between New York and Quebec City, Canada

Quebec City, Canada, a new port for Disney Cruise Line, will be featured on two new itineraries sailing between New York and Quebec City. Both of these sailings include two full days in Quebec City as well as stops at other Canadian ports new to Disney Cruise Line – Saguenay and Baie-Comeau.

With towering fortresses, lavish castles, cobblestone streets and French-inspired cuisine, Quebec City offers a taste of European charm. Must-see sights include the historic and grand Chateau Frontenac hotel and the impressive Montmorency Falls, which measure 30 meters taller than Niagara Falls. Both Saguenay and Baie-Comeau offer natural beauty, picturesque ports and local cuisine featuring plentiful seafood, wild game and the indigenous and delectable cloudberries.

Two seven-night Disney Magic cruises between New York and Quebec City depart in September 2018.

More magic from New York on sailings to Walt Disney World and Castaway Cay

Fall 2018 Disney Magic sailings from New York also include three seven-night voyages to Walt Disney World. Each cruise includes a stop in Port Canaveral, Florida, located near the Walt Disney World Resort, and a day at Disney’s private island in the Bahamas, Castaway Cay.

Adding to the magic on these special sailings, every guest will receive a one-day Walt Disney World Park Hopper ticket and round-trip transportation between the ship and the theme parks. During their visit, guests can enjoy experiences like the new Pandora – The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, which will immerse guests in a mystical world of massive floating mountains, bioluminescent rainforests and breathtaking new experiences.

Back by Popular Demand: Cruises from California, Texas and Florida

  • In September and October 2018, the Disney Wonder will sail from San Diego, California, to Baja and the Mexican Riviera. Baja sailings visit Cabo San Lucas and Ensenada, Mexico, both famous for stunning beaches and exciting water activities. Mexican Riviera sailings feature the snorkeling and scuba diving hot spots Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlán and Cabo San Lucas.
  • In November and December 2018, the Disney Wonder returns to Galveston, Texas, with a variety of Caribbean and Bahamian itineraries. All cruises to the Bahamas include a stop at Castaway Cay.
  • In December 2018, the Disney Magic will return to Miami with voyages to the Western Caribbean and Bahamas, including stops at Key West and Castaway Cay.
  • During late 2018, the Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream will continue to sail a variety of Caribbean and Bahamian cruises from Port Canaveral, Florida, with every sailing including a day at Castaway Cay.
