World-schooling, edventuring, life-learning, whatever you call it, traveling is a fantastic way to introduce your children to other cultures and enhance their education. A Disney cruise can be a wonderful tool in that endeavor.
Children will be engaged while dining on tapas in Spain with the locals, indulging in croissants while learning the language in France, and discovering local traditions and pizza making in Italy. The Universe of Energy pavilion has been educating EPCOT guests about the creation and use of various energy resources since the park’s opening in 1982. There have been many rumors floating around about this pavilion changing attractions, but it looks like there might be some truth to it now.
WFTV9 is reporting that The Walt Disney Company has filed a permit application with the South Florida water management district. Disney is seeking approval to fill in the canal and pave part of the forest directly behind the attraction on the eastern edge of the EPCOT parking lot. The 1.2 million square-foot project area in the plans maps does include the attraction within its boundaries.
It can be assumed that Walt Disney Imagineering is behind this project as one of their emails was included in the application documents. The drainage design documents that were filed state that the purpose of this project is “to provide a more-contiguous area for possible future changes to parking capacity and back of house areas.” The plans do not mention any demolition to the existing structures.
Rumors have been circulating since last year that the Universe of Energy pavilion would be seeing a new Guardians of the Galaxy attraction. Disney has not responded to requests for comment. So we will still have to guess a little longer on what the Universe of Energy’s future might have in store.

The Disney Fantasy Cruise Ship was scheduled to arrive back in port early this morning from her first sailing since being in dry dock for magical enhancements. However, that arrival has been delayed to 11 am due to mechanical problems that seems to have completed stopped the vessel for two hours over night. Some passengers reported this morning that only one propeller on this ship is working. Since the ship will have to clear customs first, an 11 am arrival into Port Canaveral means that passengers most likely will not even be able to start disembarking until 12:30 pm. Guests aboard the ship are now frantic trying to arrange for changes to their flights home due to the delay.
Passengers aboard the Fantasy for it’s first sailing out of dry dock have also reported issues with the air conditioning and problems with the toilet system. It was also reported that the ship had to make an unexpected stop in Freeport, Bahamas on it’s second night for a medial emergency.
Disney Cruise Line has not yet released an official statement on this delay. Passengers who are expected to board the Fantasy today for their cruise should contact Disney Cruise Line directly for an updated status of their sailing time.
Let us know if you are currently aboard the Fantasy or if you plan to board for today’s sailing.

***UPDATE 05/25/17*** A new video has been added to the end of this article with our interview with Sara from Disney Marketing who discusses the attraction vehicles in more depth.
One week to go until Pandora – The World of Avatar opens! As excited as we are to experience this new land dreamed up by James Cameron and the Disney Imagineers, we are starting to hear some concerning reports from guests during the preview. It appears that there are some body and physical requirements that guests need to be aware of for both Flight of Passage and Na’vi River Journey.
Larger Body Types
One of these reports is concerning the new attraction Flight of Passage’s ride vehicle. Several guests have stated that they were not able to meet the restrictions to ride due to their body type. The ride vehicle is a “link chair” and looks similar to the middle part of a motorcycle with a seat you will straddle. There are restraints that secure your back and legs and will need to “lock” in place before the ride can begin. Many guests are reporting no issues but some have been turned away because of the seat not being able to fully engage. Currently there is no modified seating option for larger guests who may need a little extra room.
Here is the Flight of Passage boarding instruction video taken by Theme Park Review. It gives a good visual on what to expect with the ride vehicle.
Unlike other attractions at Walt Disney World, there is no test seat for guests to try out before entering the attraction’s queue. Disney did make a statement that there are plans to have one installed so guests can check to see if they fit. Until then there might be some disappointed people who wait through the line only to be turned away.
Guests with Disabilities
Inside the world of Pandora, guests utilizing wheelchairs while at the theme park will need to be able move from the wheelchair to a seat in the ride vehicle. This might be an issue with Flight of Passage as it has a seat that you must straddle your legs across.
The Na’vi River Journey, a slow moving boat ride, does have tiered transfer benches available for guests with disabilities to help them descend from their wheelchairs. Many are questioning Disney’s decision on not creating one or two boats that could accommodate wheelchairs, like those used for the Jungle Cruise.

All aboard! The Disneyland Railroad is finally leaving the station! After over a year of construction for the upcoming Star Wars Land, both Rivers of America and Dinseyland Railroad attractions will be returning to Disneyland Park this summer. Visitors will see that new features have been added to enhance the park’s beauty and functionality.
This artist’s rendering, from Walt Disney Imagineering, shows The Rivers of America now has an elevated trestle for the Disneyland Railroad to travel across. Guests will also enjoy its beautiful waterfront on the new north bank. A new Columbia Gorge section has also been added to The Rivers of America with thundering waterfalls cascading down. Guests aboard the Davy Crockett Explorer Canoes, the Sailing Ship Columbia, and the Mark Twain Riverboat will all have excellent views of these new features.
Another wonderful vantage point will be aboard the Disneyland Railroad. Traveling across the new trestle will provide breathtaking views of the new waterfalls. Park guests will notice that the Disneyland Railroad is now making all left turns as it travels around the Disneyland Park.
Visitors will also notice that the Indian Village has changed locations. The village now has a more prominently featured Shaman, who is shown telling the story of how the Indian chief learned from a hummingbird how to make a flute.
Are you looking forward to seeing these changes? After waiting over a year, it will be nice to have these attractions back up and running again for guests to enjoy.
