The Walt Disney Company is Part Of A Federal Investigation For Alleged Abuse of H-1B Visa Program

Disney

James McCament, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services acting director, wrote a letter on May 24, 2017 to Senator Charles Grassley. This letter was in response to the Senator’s questions regarding the companies highlighted in the 60 Minutes “You’re Fired” episode. In this episode Disney was accused of having their IT workers train their outsourced replacements. Disney was just one of many companies highlighted in this TV episode who had fired American workers and replaced them with cheaper labor with H-1B visas.

Senator Grassley had requested to know if an investigation into the multiple companies potential misuse of the H-1B visa program had been initiated. McCament responded with the following:

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has participated in multiple investigations regarding the possible misuse of the H-1B visa program by employers such as Northeast Utilities (Eversource Energy), University of California, San Francisco, and Disney, as well as the firms contracted by these companies to provide H-1B workers. USCIS continues to review information from previously filed visa petitions and site visits at these companies and will refer its findings to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement if violations of the legal requirements can be substantiated.

The letter went on to say that Disney and other businesses have been subject to unannounced site visits by the USCIS Fraud Detection and National Security office. They were there to collect information as part of a compliance review.

This issue had been previously brought up during the GOP Debates. Disney had issued the following statement:

Over the past 5 years, The Walt Disney Company has added more than 18,000 jobs in the U.S. Approximately a year and a half ago, we reorganized our Parks and Resorts IT department, taking it from a team that focused primarily on maintaining our existing systems, to one that is more focused on developing new capabilities. A focus on innovation is critical given the constant evolution of technology.

Approximately 250 people were affected by the reorganization, and we were able to hire back more than 100 of them in other positions with Disney. In addition, since the reorganization, we have hired more than 140 other US IT workers into technical roles within the Parks technology team, and we are currently recruiting candidates to fill more than 100 IT positions.  The Parks US IT team will ultimately be larger than it was prior to the reorganization.

It’s probably one of my favorite TV channels! The “Your Disney Resort” Channel featured on Channel 3 at all Disney Resorts has just been updated with some new features to help guests plan their day.

Now when guests turn to Channel 3 at their resort they can find information such as pool hours and the dining and lounge hours at their resort. Guests can also find other resort specific information such as dining options, gift shops, recreational actives, transportation options, and more. This is in addition to the park hours and the weather forecast currently available.

Here is a screenshot showing some of the new features on the “Your Disney Resort” Channel:

Disney Events Happening This Summer

Disney has a lot going on this summer and I thought it would be helpful to bring everything to you in one article to review. Movies are being released to theaters and DVD, new comic books, attractions changing, park expansions, Expos, so much to do and I’m not sure summer is going to be long enough!

Cars 3 – June 16

Cruz Ramirez

I know my family is excited to see what’s in store for Lightning McQueen. He’s a little bit older and hopefully a little bit wiser. But can he keep up with the newest generation of race cars with the help of the newest character Cruz Ramirez?

Descendants 2 – July 21

Anyone else still “Rotten to the Core” from Disney’s original movie Descendants? We’ve been excited ever since the announcement from the D23 Expo in 2015 that the sequel was coming. Get your dancing shoes ready!

Grown-Up Groot

The newest Disneyland Resort attraction “Guardian of the Galaxy – Mission : Breakout!” opened over Memorial weekend to rave reviews! You can also meet Star-Lord, Gamora, and Groot at their “Awesome Dance Off”. Last but not least, have you seen Groot-Bread? It’s too cute to eat (almost)!

Lottawatta Lodge Has Something to Satisfy Everyone’s Appetite at Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park

Lottawatta Lodge Has Something to Satisfy Everyone's Appetite at Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park

From water slides to the wave pool there is something for everyone at Disney’s Blizzard Beach. Lottawatta Lodge is the perfect place to head for lunch after a morning of fun in the sun. Themed like an alpine chalet, there are tastes to please all palettes, from burgers and sandwiches to flatbreads and salads.

Burger enthusiasts will love the Blizzard Cheddar Burger topped with bacon, guacamole and barbecue sauce served with coleslaw and French fries. The Shrimp Roll is a fan favorite, served with apple slices or house-made chips. Be sure to ask about the specialty flatbread too!

For Blizzard Beach guests who prefer a lighter lunch, try the Harvest Salad with Chicken, topped with diced apples, dried cherries, candied pecans, cheddar and a sweet raspberry-walnut dressing. The Southwest Chicken Wrap and Grilled Chicken Sandwich are two more tasty options, both are served with apple slices or house-made chips.

Lottawatta Lodge Has Something to Satisfy Everyone's Appetite at Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park

Last but certainly not least, don’t forget to try the famous Sand Pail Sundae, with chocolate and vanilla soft-serve ice cream, waffle pieces, sprinkles, cookie pieces, hot fudge, caramel sauce, whipped cream and a cherry served in a plastic sand pail with shovel.

Lottawatta Lodge is a quick service location that does participate in Disney’s dining plan. Open for lunch/early dinner, hours vary based on Blizzard Beach water park hours.

Have you tried the famous Sand Pail Sundae? Let us know in the comments below!

Review: Sunday Brunch at Paddlefish in Disney Springs

Review: Sunday Brunch at Paddlefish in Disney Springs

I recently had the pleasure of having Sunday Brunch at Paddlefish in Disney Springs. Eating here has been high on my bucket list since the change over from Fultons. I had no idea they offered brunch and today was the perfect day for it!

Review: Sunday Brunch at Paddlefish in Disney Springs

The views of Disney Springs from Paddlefish are AMAZING! I can only imagine how it looks at night.

Review: Sunday Brunch at Paddlefish in Disney Springs

Like I mentioned above on Sunday Paddlefish offers a special Brunch menu. Since I was dining with 2 people with shellfish allergies the seafood menu was wide open for me.

Review: Sunday Brunch at Paddlefish in Disney Springs

Just click the photo to see the complete menu.

Review: Sunday Brunch at Paddlefish in Disney Springs

Before we dive into our entrees we opted for a couple of appetizers for the table. I heard stories about the Lobster Guacamole and Chips. They prepare it table side and I heard the chips were to die for… Since we had 2 people with shellfish allergies they are nice enough to make 2 appetizers for us, one with the lobster for me and one with out for the girls.

Review: Sunday Brunch at Paddlefish in Disney Springs

They make the chips in house and sprinkle them with tajin, that is the spice everyone is going crazy for and putting on their Dole Whips. Holy cow they were soooooo good!!!  Honestly I could go there and get an Admirals Punch (seen above) and the Chips and Lobster Guac and just call it a day.

I would be happy as a clam sitting on the 3rd floor of the restaurant with my chips and drink, but if I did that I would miss out on these…

Review: Sunday Brunch at Paddlefish in Disney Springs

Fried Green Tomatoes! I am not a huge tomato person, and honestly have never tried green ones to boot, but no lie these fried green tomatoes with queso fresco have to be the best things I have ever put in my mouth. We all had one tomato and all of us wanted more. They need to make this an entree item they were that good…

Review: Sunday Brunch at Paddlefish in Disney Springs

So with Admiral Punch in hand, bellies a little full from our appetizers I asked our server to take away the chips and guac otherwise we would fill up on those.

Review: Sunday Brunch at Paddlefish in Disney Springs

Now lets move on to the entrees.

I ordered the Crab & Asparagus Benedict. If you look under that perfectly poached egg you will see delicious piece of Nueske bacon along with jumbo lump crab, smoked trout roechallah, and lobster infused hollandaise sauce. Words can’t describe how good this entree was. Seriously it was that good….

Review: Sunday Brunch at Paddlefish in Disney Springs

The Disney Fashionista picked “The Burger” which is not your typical burger. It was smothered in Pimento Cheese, house made pickles, onion and served on a fresh brioche bun that is made from a local baker. It was really good too but unfortunately the burger was overcooked. If you get the burger make sure to get it medium rare…

Lindsay who is one of the Disney Fashionista writers is a vegetarian she ordered the Roots & Shoots and you can read her review of Paddlefish here.

Review: Sunday Brunch at Paddlefish in Disney Springs

I could just end the review there and be a happy camper but like the 2 ladies I was having brunch with they wanted to finish with something sweet. The people who have dined here before have told me that you want to get the Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Tart or the Key Lime Pie. As not to offend any of my friends we opted for both.

Yes that is a piece of candied bacon on the tart above, while delicious it is not as good as my candied bacon. I have spent years perfecting mine and while very close, mine still tastes the best. The bourbon pecan tart beats anything I could make at home though. It was very good and I love the presentation, it feels like I should be eating this by a campfire.

Review: Sunday Brunch at Paddlefish in Disney Springs

The real winner of dessert goes to the Key Lime Pie. The toasted meringue on top puts this head and shoulders above any other key lime pie. I have even had key lime pie in the Florida keys and Paddlefish still takes home the blue ribbon. We were all stuffed at this point and I feel that I will need to come back again just for this dessert after I have my Guac & Chips.

Review: Sunday Brunch at Paddlefish in Disney Springs

After one of the best meals at Disney Springs we went exploring around the boat. I found out that the 3rd floor doesn’t open till 5pm but you can get a drink and go up top and sit on one of the many lounge chairs and just enjoy the day. This is a great option if you need a little break from Disney shopping.

Every day after 5 p.m. Paddlefish offers a special “Sunset Rooftop Menu” that pulls the top shareable and snackable dishes from the main menu just for the 3rd deck. And on every Friday and Saturday, there’s live music on the third deck as well. Pretty cool huh?!

I was able to get you a quick little video of the view from the top of Paddlefish.

YouTube player

I didn’t know what I would expect coming into Paddlefish for Sunday Brunch. I will say from the moment we walked in the door till the time we left we were treated like family. Everyone is so helpful and the food is so delicious. I know the 2 Disney Dining Credits might seem like a lot but the food speaks for itself. We had a tremendous meal, gorgeous views, and flawless service. To me that is worth its weight in gold or Disney Dining Credits.

Next time you are booking your Disney Vacation I would highly recommend putting Paddlefish on your list! You won’t be disappointed.

Be Adventurous with the New Jansport x Disney Collaboration

Jansport x Disney Collaboration

Disney and Jansport have introduced their first ever collaboration. Mickey and his friends are all part of the new Jansport x Disney Collaboration, because what’s an adventure with out friends?

Be Adventurous with the New Jansport x Disney Collaboration

As a teen Jansport was always my end all be all backpack of choice, so I was over joyed to see this brand new collection. The new collection includes fun prints made up of the Sensational Six: Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald, Daisy, and Pluto. They can carry all of your daily necessities, plus JanSport truly makes some of the most durable backpacks around. I still have my plain purple Jansport backpack from my freshman year of high school, which was more than a decade ago (but this lady isn’t revealing how old she is, haha)!

Be Adventurous with the New Jansport x Disney Collaboration

The collection features a variety of back pack styles, along with mini packs, and pencil rolls called “burritos”. The backpacks are all large enough to carry all of your school essentials, but are also perfect for road trips, hiking, camping, or even a day at the beach too!

Be Adventurous with the New Jansport x Disney CollaborationBe Adventurous with the New Jansport x Disney Collaboration Be Adventurous with the New Jansport x Disney Collaboration

The classic back pack with the leather base will always be my favorite Jansport style, but I’m loving every single one of them! I really love how they have options that aren’t super girly and frilly too. The mini packs look like miniature back packs are are great for holding tiny accessories and change that you don’t want getting lost in the bottom of your bag.

Every adventure needs a little magic, and I think this new Jansport x Disney Collaboration has created that vibe perfectly with this collection.

Beautiful Beverages, Awesome Atmosphere and Fun Food at Planet Hollywood Observatory

Beautiful Beverages, Awesome Atmosphere and Fun Food at Planet Hollywood Observatory

The next time you plan a visit to Disney Springs, at the Walt Disney World Resort, you will likely consider a location to enjoy a meal.  For sure, there are a lot of wonderful restaurants to choose from.  On a recent visit to Disney Springs, we discovered some Beautiful Beverages, Awesome Atmosphere and Fun Food at Planet Hollywood Observatory.

We were a party of four and we began the evening with adult beverages.  We ordered the Sparkling Sputnik (a sparkling wine with fresh fruits), The Moonwalk (a SKYY Infusions beverage with tropical juices), Halley’s Comet (a 46 ounce alcoholic beverage with blue Curacao), Cosmos Martini (a drink made with vodka and cranberry juice) and the Mercury Mule (a libation created with ingredients such as vodka and ginger infused syrup).   All were very good based on personal taste preferences.  The Halley’s Comet is definitely a drink designed for more than one person.  Some of us enjoyed sampling all of the drinks!

The atmosphere is awesome, lively and fun.  The large video wall is now featuring special notices to guests present in the restaurant.  We were surprised to see ourselves on the big screen along with a welcome sign made especially for us.  There are video cameras set up around the restaurant for this purpose so if you are celebrating a special event be sure to let your server know and you may just see yourself featured on the video wall.

The video wall is also featuring comic-book-style stories set to music.  We particularly liked the Pirate themed one.

The atmosphere also highlights a DJ on the main floor of the restaurant.  With the video wall, music and DJ this restaurant is loud and lively with plenty to see and do.  Be sure to take a stroll through the restaurant to check out the shadow boxes featuring a variety of movie and music memorabilia.

For our appetizer we ordered the High Roller Sampler.  This comes with Fried JumboShrimp and two of us have a shellfish allergy.  The Chef came down to chat with us to see if we needed to substitute the shrimp and we did choose the hummus instead.  Our High Roller Sampler came with Chicken Crunch, Texas Tostados, Buffalo Wings, Five Cheese Dip and Hummus.  Our favorites were the Texas Tostados and the Five Cheese Dip.

We ordered the Bacon Mac-N-Cheese Burger, BBQ Ribs, Citrus Kale Salad, and L.A. Lasagna.  Our favorite picks were the BBQ Ribs and the Citrus Kale Salad.  We loved the fun presentation of the BBQ Ribs on the tiny picnic table.  The ribs were tender and flavorful.  The salad was crunchy and sweet without your basic greens as this salad has a Superfood blend with a lovely agave dressing.  We enjoyed the unique texture and flavor of the L.A. Lasagna and would recommend this dish to anyone who is looking for something a bit different outside of the standard pasta dish.  One of us does not enjoy fries and ordered the Green Bean Blend which was good as the vegetables had a bit of crunch to them.  The Triple Fries have an interesting seasoning on them providing a taste that two of us liked, and two of us did not.  Our least favorite choice was the Bacon Mac-N-Cheese Burger.  This burger was well done and we recommend you order this medium if you wish to try it as we did not specify this and wished we had.  The Mac-N-Cheese is not what we expected as it does not taste cheesy at all.  We expected this to literally be the “cheese” on top of our burger.  There was also an overabundance of lettuce.  Our favorite part of this dish was the bun which has a very good buttery flavor.

We love checking out new dessert options as no meal is complete without a lovely sweet.  We started with a Brownie Cheesecake Star Jar, a Cosmic Cotton Candy Supernova Shake and a Chocolate Comet Supernova Shake.  The favorite pick of the three was the Cotton Candy Supernova Shake.  If  you enjoy Cotton Candy, this sweet treat is for you!

Our top pick of the evening was the Planet Meltdown.  This delectable dessert arrives as a chocolate sphere surrounded by fresh-cut strawberries and features a white chocolate Planet Hollywood Observatory sign.  A Server comes over to your table to melt down the sphere with hot chocolate sauce.  As the sphere melts, it reveals a beautiful piece of double chocolate fudge cake.

Beautiful Beverages, Awesome Atmosphere and Fun Food at Planet Hollywood Observatory

Our Server, Sharla, was a sweetheart who was incredibly helpful with our choices for the evening.  She asked about our preferences, and made suggestions based upon our answers.  Since three out of the four of us had not eaten at the new Planet Hollywood Observatory Disney Springs, we needed a bit of guidance.

The Planet Hollywood Observatory menu is quite extensive.  Whether you are looking for a full meal, appetizers and adult beverages, or just dessert there is something for everyone.  Be sure to stop by Planet Hollywood Observatory to discover your own Beautiful Beverages, Awesome Atmosphere and Fun Food.

Which Beautiful Beverages, Awesome Atmosphere and Fun Food items appeal to you?
