Signature Collection “Pinocchio” Blu-Ray Review

IMG_2885

I was so excited when the Blu-Ray Signature Collection of Pinocchio came in the mail and the first thing I did was re-watch the classic Disney film. It was fun to know I remembered all the words to all the songs despite it being decades since my last viewing! Then I got myself settled in and watched the hours of bonus features that are included on the Blu-Ray. I’m not kidding, there are so many bonus features that in itself make it worth buying the Blu-ray.

“The Pinocchio Project: When You Wish Upon A Star”
The Project – The behind the scenes short of the recording of the remake of the song “When you wish upon a star”
The Video – The music video of the song, performed by JR Aquino, Alex G, Tanner Patrick

“Walt’s Story Meetings: Pleasure Island”
A behind the scenes of the making, specifically of the Pleasure Island segment, from Pinocchio. Mainly taken from notes and pictures from Walt Disney and his artists.

“In Walt’s Words – Pinocchio”
Walt Disney himself explaining his decision after “Snow White” to pursue Pinocchio. How he worked with his artists, his relationship with his brother, how the war effected the production. It’s wonderful to hear Walt’s own voice talking about his work and his studio.

“Oswald The Luck Rabbit in “Poor Papa”
The first Oswald short Walt ever made, and which was never released. It’s about Oswald, the father to 15 unruly bunnies.

“Classic Bonus Content”
No Strings Attached: the Making of Pinocchio – This hour long documentary covers Walt and his artists, following the massive success of “Snow White” getting into Pinocchio. This is a deep dive into every single aspect of the film each specific artist, the voice actors and finding them, the models used, music – everything. The film itself proved to be more problematic then anything but ended up becoming one of the most beautiful and revered animated films in history.

Deleted Scenes – Three scenes that either storyboarded or described in notes but never got in to the final animation process.

The Sweatbox – The story of Walt’s process of taking the photo’s of the storyboards and projecting them with music and artists voices in the non-air conditioned screening room with the other animators and pick it apart to make the best film possible.

Geppetto’s Then And Now – Toys and toymakers from all over the world. From the people who make wooden toys and marionettes to the modern high-tech toys, like robots, from the US and Japan. Then to the future of toys, which is amazing.

Live Action Reference Footage – A beat by beat process that the animators went through before they started the animation process. Featuring the found footage of live actors going through the motions for the artists to follow.

Publicity – The theatrical trailers for “Pinocchio” from 1940, 1984 and 1992

“When You wish Upon A Star” Meaghan Jette Martin
The music video for ‘When You Wish Upon a Star’

“A Wish Come True: The Making Of Pinocchio”
The documentary from the 1984 video release of the animated classic.

“Storyboard-To-Film Final Comparison”
A side by side comparison of the original storyboards and the final film, from the first scene of the movie.

I loved every bit of the bonus features, and it’s something your family can watch again and again. This Signature Collection of Pinocchio is a must in every collector’s collection.
