Port Canaveral to Undergo $1.2 million Refurbishment to Terminal 3

According to a piece in the Orlando Sentinel, Port Canaveral has been given more than $1.2 million in funds from their governing body to begin work on upgrading Cruise Terminal 3.

This is due largely to the number of large ships that have registered an interest in shifting their departure ports up to Port Canaveral from Fort Lauderdale. This includes the Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas (the World’s largest cruise ship which can accommodate up to 7,000 guests) as well as the Harmony of the Seas. There’s also Norwegian Cruise Line’s Epic as well as Carnival’s Magic.

The project, will be lead by a CH2MH Hill, a Colorado based engineering firm. Funds are being allocated to cover the costs of designing a new berth drudging as well as bidding and construction support.

The current berth will need to be demolished to make way for the new terminal. Renovations are expected to finish in 2019.

Port Canaveral is rapidly expanding. Just last year it completed a $50 million upgrade to Cruise Terminal 1. There’s no word yet on what impact the expansion and development of Port Canaveral will have on Disney Cruise Line guests which currently board at Terminal 8. Are Alcoholic and Other Beverage Options Being Added to Disney Dining Plans?

Today, we are hearing from across the pond that alcoholic drinks will now be a drink option that comes with your Disney Dining Plan in 2018!

TheDibb.co.uk is reporting this breaking news and that guests will be able to chose from either one specialty non-alcoholic or alcoholic beverage with each meal selection. (Guests must be at least 21 to enjoy an alcoholic beverage.)

Non-alcoholic drink options are reported to now include:

Artisanal Milkshakes
Fresh Smoothies
Premium Hot Chocolate
Soda, Coffee, or Tea

Alcoholic drink options are reported to now include:

Beer or Cider
Wine or Sangria
Mixed Drinks (e.g.: Rum and Coke and Specialty cocktails)

No official word on this change has been announced by Disney yet. We also cannot confirm if this change is only going to be available for guests from the UK. (I don’t think this would be the case as I think it would apply to any Disney guest.) Another question that arises is: Are we going to see more alcoholic beverages available at more locations inside the parks? We also are not sure if this will cause an increase to the dining plans. (Increases aren’t unheard of from year to year though.)

One Week Refurbishment Scheduled For Disney and Pixar Short Film Festival

The Disney & Pixar Short Film Festival located in the Imagination Pavilion at EPCOT will closed for a one week refurbishment starting June 12th and will re-open on June 18, 2017.

The Magic Eye Theater allows guests to experience popular Disney and Pixar short films in 4D. Previously this theater was home to “Captain EO” and “Honey, I Shrunk the Audience”.

Disneyland’s Summer of Heroic Food and Drinks

Summer of Heroes at Disney California Adventure is sure to be a blockbuster and every super hero in your family will be excited to see the themed food and drinks being offered. Six different locations in Hollywood Land will be serving up these super hero inspired treats including Schmoozies, Award Wieners and Market Place. Two new locations, Cosmic Canteen and Knowhere Eats, have also been added.

Dishes and drinks in lively colors of green, purple, red, blue and orange reflect the bold personalities of some favorite Super Heroes.

One of the fun new desserts is inspired by baby Groot. The Angry Little Pudding Cup features chocolate pudding with crumbled chocolate sandwich cookie, whipped cream and funnel cake fries.

Guests who enjoy the Mickey-shaped sourdough bread available in Disney California Adventure will want to check out the fun, new Groot-shaped breads, in sourdough and jalapeno-cheddar flavors.

The Most Dangerous Tacos in the Galaxy, a must-try, are inspired by the fiery personality of Gamora, featuring barbacoa, green onion slaw and habanero salsa.

In addition, guests can try the Savory Strength Falafel Pita, Super Size Subs, Space Outpost Tacos, Gamma-Sized Donuts and Bifrosties which are shave ice with fun themed flavors (image above is “Spinal Fluid Bifrosties”).

Star Wars Land-themed Pavilion and More Coming to D23 Expo 2017

In a little over a month Disney Addicts from around the world will gather at Disneyland to hear what the future holds for Disney at the D23 Expo. Today, we are learning about the pavilion called a Galaxy of Stories that will be dedicated to the new Star Wars Lands coming to Disneyland and Hollywood Studios at Disney World in 2019. The logo for the Galaxy of Stories Pavilion is above.

Guests of the D23 Expo can catch a glimpse of the locations, starships, creatures and droids that will populate this remote village on the Outer Rim, and experience the world premiere of a detailed model showcasing the immersive 14-acre lands coming to Disney Parks in 2019. There will be plenty of artwork and media on display to show guests the creative process bringing the Star Wars, galaxy to life.

On Saturday of the D23 Expo, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman, Bob Chapek, will also take the stage for a special Hall D23 presentation on what’s new and what’s next for resorts around the globe. In addition, guests can sit in on three other unique Disney Parks panel presentations:

3:30 p.m. Pirates of the Caribbean: 50 Years of Swashbuckling Adventures in Disney Parks

Saturday, July 15

Disney will also be bringing back Mickey’s of Glendale, the Imagineer-exclusive merchandise store chock full of limited-edition collectibles and souvenirs. New Updates For the Disneyland Paris – Val d’Europe Half Marathon Weekend

This year the Disneyland Paris – Val d’Europe Half Marathon Weekend will be taking place September 21-24, 2017. Runners from around the world will take part in this second annual event. Last year’s inaugural race had 11,000 runners participating with one-third of those from the United States. What could be better than a magical run through the French countryside that finishes at the Disneyland Paris Resort with all of your favorite Disney characters!

This year’s race is going to be even better than last year. A new 10K has been added to the race weekend along with a Challenge event.

The 10K will have many fun surprises and Disney entertainment as runners make their way through Disneyland Paris Resort. The Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo Challenge is for runners who take on the 10K and the half marathon. Completing this challenge will earn you a brand new Cinderella-themed medal.

For a next level challenge, runners who complete the Disneyland Paris Half Marathon and any other runDisney half or full marathon within the same calendar year will receive the Castle to Chateau Challenge Commemorative medal.

Another new fun addition to this year’s festivities is that the Disneyland Paris 5K will be run at night! This course will have participants of all levels running down Hollywood Boulevard and around The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. After the 5K is over Walt Disney Studios Park at Disneyland Paris Resort will host a special runDisney event for anyone participating in the race weekend. Runners will be able to purchase tickets for this private Kick-Off Party that will give them access to main attractions, Disney characters, commemorative photo opportunities and a DJ party.

Our First Look Into Disney’s Next Live Action Movie: ‘Mary Poppins Returns’

The most iconic nanny, Mary Poppins, returns to theaters Christmas 2018 in Mary Poppins Returns. Today, we are hearing from the film’s star, Emily Blunt, and learning some more about the plot of the upcoming movie.

Emily Blunt has landed—practically perfectly, of course—on the cover of the new issue of Entertainment Weekly, and we could not be more excited. In an exclusive first look, Emily shares her enthusiasm for playing the title role in Mary Poppins Returns.

The story in Entertainment Weekly provides many of the exciting details fans have been clamoring for. The new film takes place 25 years after the first, during the economic slump of the 1930s in the UK (think: The Great Depression). Michael Banks (Ben Whishaw) now lives in the family home (a stunning recreation of the original 17 Cherry Tree Lane!) with his family, when tragedy hits: Michael’s wife passes away, leaving banker/artist Michael to raise their three children on his own. Jane (Emily Mortimer) tries to help lift the spirits—and the family’s finances, which are now tottering, as they face foreclosure on their home—but can only do so much.

Enter Mary Poppins. Blunt got the blessing of Julie Andrews herself before production began, and Mary works magic on the children, the family, and everyone she encounters, including Lin-Manuel Miranda in the role of Jack, a lamplighter and former protégé of chimney sweep Bert (Dick Van Dyke).

Much care and respect has been put into bringing this family musical to life while honoring the legacy and reputation of the original film. Filmmakers strategically hired the best in the business including Tony-award winning composers tasked with penning a new score for the new movie.

Rob Marshall, the director for Mary Poppins Returns, is quoted as saying, “The bar is so high for this. But to be able to walk in the footsteps of this beautiful story about a woman who brings magic to this family that’s looking for wonder and hope and joy in their lives… I feel a great responsibility and reverence every day. We all feel it. We’re just lifting it up to get there with the right intentions behind it.”

Marshall also directed the Oscar-winning Chicago.

This new movie sounds nothing short of magical! Can’t wait for Christmas 2018!
