GRAMMY-Nominated Mariachi Divas will Perform February 9th on Downtown Disney LIVE! Stage at Disneyland Resort

The Mariachi Divas de Cindy Shea have been nominated for a GRAMMY Award in the Best Regional Mexican Album category for the seventh time. The group performs regularly in Disney California Adventure park and at Tortilla Jo’s in the Downtown Disney District at Disneyland Resort.

The Divas have been performing at Disneyland Resort for the last 17 years, including 7 at Tortilla Jo’s. To celebrate the nomination, and in recognition of their loyal followers, the Mariachi Divas will present a concert at noon Thursday, Feb. 9, on the Downtown Disney LIVE! stage.

This year’s nomination is for the Divas’ 12th album, “Tributo a Joan Sebastian & Rigoberto Alfaro.” The album honors the music of Mexican singer-songwriter Joan Sebastian, himself a GRAMMY winner, and marks the first collaboration between Mariachi Divas founder Cindy Shea and legendary composer and mariachi musician Rigoberto Alfaro.

In 2014, the Mariachi Divas became the first mariachi group in history to receive a second GRAMMY, for their album “A Mi Manera.” Their first GRAMMY, for the 2009 album “Canciones De Amor,” marked the first time in history that an all-female mariachi group had been a nominee and a winner.

The 59th GRAMMY Awards ceremony will take place this Sunday, Feb. 12.

Doc McStuffins To Start Meeting Guests at Animal Kingdom

The Doc is in! To celebrate her fifth season on Disney Junior, Doc McStuffins will begin greeting guests at Disney’s Animal Kingdom this month. The location for this new daily meet and greet will be outside the veterinarian clinic at Rafiki’s Planet Watch where the Doc will be available to pose for photos and sign autographs.

While there, your little ones can also learn more about conservation and find out how the vets care for the animals that live in the park. There’s also a delightful train ride out to Rafiki’s Planet Watch which tends to be a favorite with young visitors to the Animal Kingdom.

Doc McStuffins will also continue greeting guests outside of Disney Junior Live On Stage over at Hollywood Studios.

New Website for Pandora Experience at Animal Kingdom Launches

Following the news that Pandora- World of Avatar Land will open this May, a new website has been launched that allows guests to fully immerse themselves in the backstory of the new attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

In true Disney fashion, the website fully immerses guests in the world of Pandora, and leads the guest to believe that they are on an expedition tour with Alpha Centauri Expeditions where they can explore the Valley of Mo’ara, ride a raft down the Kaspavan River, and even take flight on the back of a mountain banshee.

The Jostens Center at ESPN Wide World of Sports to be Renamed

The Jostens Center at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex will be renamed the “J Center” effective Saturday, February 11, 2017. The sponsorship agreement between Walt Disney World and Jostens is ending, hence the name change. Look for new signage and updated printed materials coming soon. The multi-sport facility houses basketball and volleyball courts along with roller hockey rinks and more.

Disney’s Social Media Moms event is taking place at Walt Disney World this week and last night they were given a sneak peek at the all new Rivers of Light Show in Disney’s Animal Kingdom!

Rivers of Light is the all new show in the Animal Kingdom that was supposed to start last year but due to technical difficulties it has been pushed back until sometime this spring.

Marvel and Netflix have released the official trailer for Marvel’s Iron Fist, the fourth entry in their series of Netflix originals. The Netflix original series Iron Fist is part of The Defenders series, included with Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage which are now streaming to premiere only on Netflix. A fifth series, Marvel’s The Punisher, has also started filming and stars Jon Bernthal.

In Marvel’s Iron Fist, billionaire Danny Rand (Finn Jones) returns to New York City after being missing for years, trying to reconnect with his past and his family legacy. He fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.

The Marvel’s Iron Fist cast includes Finn Jones as Danny Rand aka Iron Fist, with Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing, David Wenham as Harold Meachum, Jessica Stroup as Joy Meachum, and Tom Pelphrey as Ward Meachum. Marvel’s Jessica Jones star Carrie-Anne Moss will also reprise her role of lawyer Jeri Hogarth alongside Netflix’s connector between the shows, Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple.

Marvel’s Iron Fist premieres with 13 episodes on Netflix on March 17, 2017 at 12:01am PT in all territories where Netflix is available.

Star Wars Land Opening in 2019 at Walt Disney World and Disneyland

Not only has Disney released the opening date for Pandora – The World of Avatar today they also made the announcement when we can expect Star Wars Land at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland to open.

Star Wars Land is expected to open in 2019 according to Disney CEO Bob Iger during The Walt Disney Company Shareholders meeting.

As soon as we get closer to the year I imagine Disney will be able to give us a better idea what month.

Pandora – The World of Avatar Will Open May 27 at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Pandora – The World of Avatar will open at Disney’s Animal Kingdom on Saturday, May 27, it was announced today by Disney CEO Bob Iger during The Walt Disney Company Shareholders meeting.

Inspired by Academy-award winning filmmaker James Cameron’s box-office hit, “AVATAR,” the new 12-acre land will immerse guests in the lush world of Pandora about a generation after the film’s human-Na’vi conflict.

The magical new land will transport guests to a mystical world of bioluminescent rainforests, floating mountains and soaring Banshees. Two main adventures will beckon Disney’s Animal Kingdom guests:

Riding a magnificent Mountain Banshee, guests will soar across Pandora on Avatar Flight of Passage. This high-tech adventure will offer a thrilling flight through the jungles and floating mountains, and over the majestic oceans of this colorful world. On the family-friendly Na’vi River Journey guests will sail down a sacred river hidden within a glowing rainforest. The expedition will end in an unforgettable encounter with a Na’vi Shaman, a figure who has a deep connection to the life force of Pandora.
