Holiday Decorations Coming Soon to Walt Disney World Resort Hotels

Holiday Decorations

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Well, almost. Halloween celebrations are in full swing at the Walt Disney World Resort, but Christmas is just around the corner! After the final night of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, Cast Members will begin working to magically transform the resort into a merry wonderland. While the Christmas decor in the parks is absolutely gorgeous, there is truly something to be said for the holiday decorations that fill the halls and lobbies of the more than 25 resorts on property.

Each Disney resort on property gets decked out with their own holiday decorations, some of which are worthy of a visit to see, even if you aren’t staying at that particular resort. One of my favorite things to do at Walt Disney World, during the holiday season, is resort hop and take in all the beauty of the resort Christmas decorations.

I love all of the holiday decor around the Walt Disney World property, but a few resorts stand out from the rest. Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Disney’s Beach Club Resort, and Disney’s Yacht Club Resort all feature some amazing holiday displays that are worth experiencing.

During the holiday season, walking into Disney’s Wilderness Lodge feels like walking into a storybook Christmas. Centered in the resort’s lobby is a large, stunning, Christmas tree; along with the over-sized fireplace the decor makes for a magical place to sit and relax with a cup of hot cocoa. Over at Disney’s Grand Floridian, a beautifully decorated tree graces their lobby as well, but the decoration that truly stands out at this deluxe resort, is their life-size gingerbread house. The attention to detail on this edible work of art is incredible, and the delicious smell of gingerbread is sure to put you in the holiday spirit! Grand Floridian’s gingerbread house isn’t the only remarkable edible decor on property. The holiday decorations at Disney’s Beach Club Resort feature a life-size, functional, carousel made of gingerbread. Beach Club’s sister resort, Disney’s Yacht Club is home to one of my favorite holiday decorations. The resort’s set up includes a gorgeous holiday village with a miniature train. Walt Disney had a love of trains, and I love that connection within the display.

Have you ever visited the Walt Disney World Resort hotels during the holiday season? Share your thoughts on the holiday decor in the comments below!

Disneyland Halloween

With the first Mickey’s Halloween Party kicking off in just a few short days (September 20),  Disneyland is sharing a sneak peek of some of the exclusive Halloween merchandise that will be available at this year’s bash.  Here’s a quick rundown of some of the amazing items on offer.

Mickey's Halloween

Mickey’s Halloween Party is such a vibrant and colorful event that Disney created eye-popping merchandise to match.  T-shirts dazzle in colors equally fun as bright logos feature prominently in the design.

Annual Passholders attending the event will also be able to purchase an exclusive logo t-shirt featuring Mickey Mouse as well as a limited edition Headless Horseman pin (pictured above).

Disney Pins

In exciting news for Pin Traders, this year’s Halloween Party pins include a limited release logo pin, a limited edition “Halloween Screams” spinner pin and a limited edition “Frightfully Fun Parade” pin featuring Zero and Oogie Boogie from “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas”.  Each pin will have edition sizes of 4,000 each.

Pin set box

Disney has also unveiled a special limited edition Disney pin box set featuring some of Disney’s most formidable Villains.  The set has an edition size of 1000.

The best locations to find these Halloween-themed goodies are at the Emporium on Main Street U.S.A, Pioneer Mercantile in Frontierland and Pieces of Eight in New Orleans Square.

Some of the pins will also be available at pin trading locations like 20th Century Music on Main Street U.S.A, Westward Ho Trading Company in Frontierland or Little Green Men Store in Tomorrowland.

Annual Passholders hoping to get their hands on the exclusive Passholder only merchandise will need to stop by Disneyana on Main Street U.S.A or Tomorrowland Starcade for their purchases.

Visitors to Disneyland should note that all of the merchandise featured above is exclusive to Mickey’s Haloween Party guests and will not be available outwith party hours.

Your First Look at the 2017 Haunted Mansion Holiday Gingerbread House

Gingerbread

The Halloween Season has officially arrived at Disneyland Resort and we’re pleased to offer you a first look at one of Disneyland’s most popular Halloween traditions, The giant gingerbread creation that’s placed in the ballroom of the Haunted Mansion for the seasonal Tim Burton-esque Haunted Mansion Holiday takeover based on the film “The Nightmare Before Christmas.”

This year’s gingerbread mansion features Oogie Boogie who hasn’t been showcased in one of these edible creations for the last 13-years.  The piece for 2017 is covered with gingerbread bugs. However, Oogie Boogie has come to the rescue and has pried open the roof of the gingerbread mansion with a fork in hand ready to make a meal of the infestation. In the process, quite a few bugs have managed to escape and you’ll find them scattered about the ballroom.

DL Haunted Mansion

The house is six feet tall but the animated Oogie Boogie featured comes in at a whopping seven feet.  There are more than 70 bugs scurrying across the ballroom and some that even made it outside of the room so be on the lookout and see if you can find them throughout the ride.

Just to give you a demonstration of how impressive this creation truly is,  Executive Pastry Chef Jean-Marc Viallet and Lead Pastry Chef Edgar Urtola from Disneyland Resort Central Bakery shared the shopping list needed to bring the gingerbread mansion to life.

  • 200 pounds gingerbread
  • 200 pounds powdered sugar
  • 4 gallons egg whites
  • 1 gallon lemon juice
  • 30 pounds white chocolate
  • 50 pounds gum paste
  • 8 ounces (each) food coloring (blue, purple, orange, yellow, red)
  • 16 ounces green food coloring
  • 50 pounds fondant
  • 1/3 pound glitter
  • 200 hours Disney Culinary Magic

The gingerbread house will be on display for Disneyland visitors to check out between now and early January 2018.

SeaWorld Orlando Rescue Team Gives Aid To Animals Impacted By Hurricane Irma

SeaWorld Orlando Rescue Team Gives Aid To Animals Impacted By Hurricane Irma

As Florida continues to clean up in the wake of Hurricane Irma, it’s been a busy week for the SeaWorld Orlando Rescue team. Reports of stranded, displaced and injured animals have increased, and the park’s rescue team, along with partner and government agencies, has been called to assist.

On Thursday, Sept. 14, a manatee calf was found orphaned or abandoned in Southwest Florida, presumably as a result of Hurricane Irma.  Manatee calves and moms have tight bonds, and if a calf is seen without a mom around for several hours it’s very likely that calf has been orphaned.  Since manatees nurse for 1-2 years, a calf on its own has very little chance of survival.

SeaWorld Orlando Rescue Team Gives Aid To Animals Impacted By Hurricane Irma

The Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission rescued the calf and transported it to SeaWorld Orlando.  Upon arrival at SeaWorld, the animal care team provided fluids to the calf as it was suffering from dehydration. Beginning this morning, the calf was transitioned to a nutritional formula created by SeaWorld that replicates mother’s milk. An animal care specialist will give the calf a bottle every three hours for the next several months. The veterinary team took x-rays of the calf today to see if his gastrointestinal tract is functioning properly and were pleased to see that it is.

Orphaned calves are typically rehabilitated until they are at least 600 pounds, which usually takes about two to three years.  At that time if they are deemed healthy they will be returned to their natural environments.

Earlier, the team assisted in successfully rescuing and relocating six manatees that had stranded in the Melbourne, FL area, likely due to unusual tides and water levels associated with Hurricane Irma.  {At this time, assets are not available for this relocation rescue.} You can watch the video here.

SeaWorld Orlando aviculturists are also caring for several birds, including an Audubon’s shearwater, a species typically found offshore that may have been blown inland from the storm.  A juvenile brown pelican is also being cared for.

The five dolphins that were relocated from Dolphin Connection in the Florida Keys prior to the hurricane continue to thrive.

SeaWorld will continue to work with other zoological facilities impacted by the storm and are prepared to care for displaced animals as necessary.  Its animal experts have helped more than 31,000 animals in need – ill, injured, orphaned and abandoned – for more than 50 years.

Disney Pledges To Pay Lost Wages To Cast Members During Hurricane Irma Closure

Lost Wages

Walt Disney World made headlines earlier this week by closing for only the 5th time in history as Hurricane Irma moved through the Southeast. With its closure many of the Disney cast members were set to lose out on a large part of their paycheck for the week.

Yesterday Disney announced that they had decided to pay all cast members (both non-unionized and unionized) for their lost shifts on Sunday and Monday due to Hurricane Irma.

This follows Disney’s decision to donate $2.5 million to aid in humanitarian relief efforts to those impacted by Hurricane Irma across the Caribbean and Florida. The donation will support the disaster response and recovery efforts of the American Red Cross, UNICEF, Save the Children, and other nonprofit organizations.
