AECOM Report Shows Walt Disney World Attendance Went Down In 2016

Disney

Sign

Themed Entertainment Association and AECOM have released a park attendance report for the major theme parks nationwide for 2016.

Walt Disney World did not come out well. All four Disney parks show decreased numbers in visitors for the year.

  • Magic Kingdom fell 0.5 percent to just under 20.4 million visitors
  • Disney’s Hollywood Studios also down 0.5 percent to 10.78 million visitors
  • EPCOT was down 0.7 percent to 11.7 million visitors
  • Animal Kingdom was also down 0.7 percent to 10.84 million visitors

Universal Studios theme parks seemed to fair better with an overall increase.

  • Universal Studios increased 4.3 percent to just under 10 million visitors
  • Islands of Adventure was down 0.2 percent to 9.4 million visitors

Unsurprisingly, Sea World Orlando had huge attendance loses

  • Sea World Orlando was down 7.9 percent to 4.4 million

Disneyland, the world’s second highest attended theme park next to Magic Kingdom also saw visitor declines.

  • Disneyland was down 1.8 percent to just under 18 million

Jason Garcia the associate editor at Florida Trend magazine also posted this morning about the Orlando parks market share.

  • Disney World’s market share slipped to 69.3% in 2016
    • Down from 70% in 2015
    • And down from 74% in 2009
  • Universal’s market share increased to 25% in 2016
    • Up from 23.% in 2015
    • And up from 16% in 2009 (Pre Harry Potter Expansion)
  • SeaWorld Orlando has decreased to 5.7% in 2016
    • Down from 6.2% in 2015
    • 2008 they had 9.1% (the height of SeaWorld Orlando popularity)

We have to assume that this is due to the extreme popularity of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios. The question remaining now…Will Pandora – The World of Avatar turn things around for Walt Disney World in 2017?

Mobile Food Ordering at Animal Kingdom to Be Extended to Pizzafari

Pizzafari Mobile Ordering

Pizzafari Mobile Ordering

As we reported last month, Disney is starting to unveil a new service to make getting your Quick Service meals at Walt Disney World a breeze.  With the opening of Pandora – The World of Avatar last week visitors to Satu’li Canteen are now able to book meals in advance using the My Disney Experience App.  You can select and pre-pay for items, let the restaurant know that you are on your way to pick up your food and bypass the lines heading instead to a pick-up window where your tasty dishes will be waiting for you.

When Disney first revealed plans to offer mobile ordering, they suggested that Satu’li will pave the way and that other restaurants would soon follow suit.  We are excited to announce today the Pizzafari will be the second restaurant to offer mobile ordering starting next week.

For those looking to beat the Pandora crowds, Pizzafari provides a nice spot to grab some tasty grub and sit back and relax in restaurant’s eclectic surroundings.  This Animal Kingdom eatery offers a tasty mix of flatbreads, pasta, pizzas, salads and more.  There’s also draft beer and fountain drinks on offer.  Deciding where to sit at Pizzafari is half the fun as guests can choose between 6 larger-than life mural and mosaic themed rooms.

For those looking to take advantage of mobile ordering during your next Disney stay, here’s a quick video of how it all works.

In addition to Satu’li Canteen and Pizzafari, other restaurants are expected to follow suit including Animal Kingdom’s Flame Tree Barbecue and Restaurantosaurus at some point over the Summer.  Disney World has also advised that service will eventually be expanded further to include other Quick Service locations throughout the 4 theme parks.

Keep following along with Chip and Co for latest updates on Mobile Ordering.

Beware of In Room Scams at Walt Disney World

Disney World Scam

Disney World Scam

Today we are learning about a new scam targeting guests at Walt Disney World Resorts and wanted to make sure our readers are aware.

The scam works like this: Guests check-in to their room and receive a call from the “Front Desk” of their resort a little bit later. The “Front Desk” representative tells the guest that they had problems verifying their credit card at check-in and they need the guest’s credit card information again. This is where the scam comes in….The “Front Desk” isn’t actually Disney but a scammer trying to get the resort guest’s credit card number. Guests that have been taken advantage of by the scam have reported credit card charges on their cards up to $5,000.

Here are some tips to keep you safe from these Disney Scammers:

  • Never give out any credit card or personal information over the phone. Speak to a Cast Member directly in person to give any sensitive personal information.
  • Some reports say that they received the phone call from the “Front Desk” as late as midnight. Disney will not call guest rooms directly after 10:30 pm.
  • If you do receive one of these phone calls, report it to the Front Desk of your resort immediately.

We all know that Walt Disney World is the most magical place in the world. With over 30,000 resort rooms and hundreds of thousands guests visiting at a time, it makes it such a great target for scammers. Let’s hope these scammers are stopped soon to keep it that way.

The Only Breakfast at Walt Disney World You Need an ID to Order

Satu'li Canteen

Satu'li Canteen

We have been covering all of the amazing adult beverages being served in Pandora like their specialty cocktails topped with boba balls, green beer, and Banshee wine. But did you know that it’s not just the drinks you need to be over 21 to enjoy?

The Only Breakfast at Walt Disney World You Need an ID to Order

Satu’li Canteen has Bourbon-soaked Raisins! Pair this with their Bloody Mary and you’ll have a breakfast of champions. Mind you I’m not condoning over indulgence but I do think these Steel Cut Oats sound amazing!

Oatmeal

Those two asterisks at the end refer to needing to show your ID. The oatmeal can be made without raisins for a non-alcoholic version. But where is the fun in that? Satu’li Canteen serves breakfast until 10:30 am if you want to try this dish out for yourself.

Have you tried the Steel Cut Oats? Let us know what you think!

Five New Restaurants Are Coming To Disney Springs

Disney Springs

Disney Springs

Starting this Fall five new restaurants will be joining the Disney Springs complex.  Spread between Town Center, The Landing, and West Side, these additions to an already impressive culinary line-up are sure to please every palate.

Five New Restaurants Are Coming To Disney Springs

Opening in 2018 on the West Side is Jaleo, a concept by world-renowned Chef José Andrés’ ThinkFoodGroup. Bringing the spirit and flavors of Spain, the Disney Springs restaurant will feature an extensive menu of tapas that reflect the rich regional diversity of traditional and contemporary Spanish cuisine, such as paella cooked over a wood fire, hand-carved Jamon Iberico de Bellota and wood-grilled Iberico pork. With five locations in the United States and Mexico City, this will be the first location in Florida. The first floor of the multi-level restaurant will feature a “grab-n-go” storefront with Spanish-style sandwiches. Designed by noted Spanish designer Juli Capella, the multi-level space will feature vibrant, theatrical décor representing the colorful culture of Spain.

Five New Restaurants Are Coming To Disney Springs

Also in 2018, a new Wolfgang Puck concept will open in a new location in Town Center. Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill, will modernize the traditional “bar and grill” concept in a setting inspired by traditional farmhouses with a touch of elegance. The restaurant, designed by tonychi, will capture the essence of laid-back California dining made popular by Puck at Spago, his flagship restaurant in Los Angeles. The menu will highlight the best of Puck’s signature dishes with Mediterranean influences, innovative takes on comfort food classics and handcrafted specialty cocktails, beer and wine.

Five New Restaurants Are Coming To Disney Springs

This fall, Chicago-based Levy Restaurants is introducing a new Italian concept at Disney Springs with James Beard award winner and “Top Chef Master” Chef Tony Mantuano leading development. The new restaurant will replace Levy’s Portobello Country Italian Trattoria and will feature dishes inspired by Mantuano’s adventures in Italy.

Five New Restaurants Are Coming To Disney Springs

Opening later this year, The Edison, a lavish “Industrial Gothic” restaurant, bar and nighttime destination will debut. A collaboration of Patina Restaurant Group and Kinetescape’s Andrew Meieran, The Edison is noted for classic American food, craft cocktails and live entertainment including cabaret. (The Disney Springs location is inspired by its sister location in Los Angeles.) With Old World sophistication and romance, The Edison will be themed to a 1920s-era electric company, recalling an exuberant era of invention and imagination with entertainment that includes contortionists, aerialists, DJs and more.

Five New Restaurants Are Coming To Disney Springs

Also opening in late 2017 is Wine Bar George, with Master Sommelier George Miliotes bringing his expertise to Disney Springs with an unparalleled wine list including more than 100 selections by the bottle and glass in a range of varietals, vintages and prices. Shareable plates, cheese and charcuterie will complement the wine list, featuring local artisans and seasonally relevant dishes. Wine education will be served up in an approachable and fun manner, including special events and visits from renowned winemakers. Miliotes is widely regarded as one of the industry’s foremost wine experts, and is one of only 236 professionals certified by the Court of Master Sommeliers.

With so many new dining options, I’m not going to know which one to try first! Which location are you most excited about?

For the second consecutive year, the NFL will host Pro Bowl Week festivities across the Orlando area, bringing new experiences and activities as well as an extraordinary number of events focused on commemorating all levels of football – from youth to high school to the NFL’s best. In addition, Pro Bowl players will be able to invite their former youth or high school coach to be a part of the week’s celebrations.
