Chef Mickey’s Temporary Relocation Cancelled

Chef Mickey's Temporary Relocation Cancelled

About two weeks ago, we reported that Chef Mickey’s would be undergoing some unexpected maintenance from July 28 to August 13 and would temporarily relocate to the Convention Center at the Contemporary Resort.

Disney is now reporting that Chef Mickey’s operation will not be impacted by kitchen maintenance and will remain open in it’s normal location.

Chef Mickey’s is a table-service restaurant that serves an all-you-care-to-eat buffet with Disney friends located at the Contemporary Resort. Disney Characters mingle with Guests for photos and autographs and periodically lead diners in song and dance. Guests at Chef Mickey’s may meet such Disney Characters as Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Pluto, Donald Duck, and Goofy.

Disney Facing Lawsuit Over Use Of Stolen Motion Capture Equipment Used on 3 Films

Disney Facing Lawsuit Over Use Of Stolen Motion Capture Equipment Used on 3 Films

According to numerous sources, Disney seems to be facing yet another day in court in the face of an injunction by VFX Rearden LLC.  The suit alleges that three prominent Walt Disney World titles: Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Beauty and the Beast were filmed using stolen “performance motion capture” technology. This follows a successful court ruling in Rearden’s favor last year against two Chinese firms who they also claim used stolen equipment.   The equipment in question is a MOVA Contour system which they alleged was being licensed by Digital Domain 3.0)  Rearden argues that Disney reproduced and distributed the three films using this stolen technology.Rearden, LLC was self-funded by Steve Perlman who prior to setting up the company had worked with Apple an Microsoft.  Perlman claims to have been developing MOVA since 2006.  Its first use was in the 2008 film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and it has been used in numerous films since.

In terms of supporting evidence,  Rearden claims to have amassed footage of members of the production teams of the above films either describing  or using what would appear to be the MOVA Contour system.  The suit then goes on to highlight projects where Disney was legally contracted to use the equipment including on Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, TRON: Legacy , The Avengers and John Carter.

The aim of lawsuit is to stop Disney’s distribution of the three films in question. Reardern, LLC. is also seeking damages and profits from copyright infringement.

Disney has yet to make a statement regarding the suit.

For the latest information on this case please continue to follow along with Chip and Co.

Guests will need to download the Disneyland App and set-up an account.

Disney MaxPass will launch tomorrow at the introductory price of $10 per person. Guests can purchase MaxPass at the time of ticket purchase or as an add-on through the Disneyland App once they enter the park. In addition to the FastPass service, MaxPass will also include unlimited PhotoPass download for the day. Disney Live Action Film Nutcracker and the Four Realms To Open November 2, 2018

Disney Live Action Film Nutcracker and the Four Realms To Open November 2, 2018

An exciting bit of news out of D23’s Live-Action Films panel this week is that Walt Disney Studios is currently working on an adaptation of the classic Nutcracker story titled Nutcracker and the Four Realms.

Disney has lined up an all-star cast for the film including Keira Knightly in the roll of the Sugar Plum Fairy, Helen Mirren as Mother Ginger and Morgan Freeman as Drosselmeyer.  And in a tip-of-the-hat to the classic Tchaikovsky Ballet, esteemed ballet dancer Misty Copeland will round out the production.  The film will also feature cutting edge CG technology including motion capture which will be used to create The Mouse King.

The setting of this whimsical production will occur across four “realms” including the Land of Flower and the Land of Snowflakes.

The piece will be directed by Lasse Hallstrom whose previous credits include A Dog’s Purpose and Chocolat.

We know what we’ll be doing next November!

Readers are encouraged to check back for the latest news and updates regarding this production as well as the many other films unveiled at this year’s D23 Expo.

D23Expo Celebs Interviewed By Guillermo From Jimmy Kimmel

If you’ve been following along with Chip and Co. you know that this past weekend was huge for Disney fans at the D23 Expo. Celebrities from Star Wars, Marvel, Mary Poppins and more all made appearances and the fans went crazy.

Jimmy Kimmel even got in on the action and sent his sidekick/security guard Guillermo to interview the celebrities back stage at the convention. In this incredibly funny segment Guillermo asks the Marvel heroes which Disney princess they would want to be, tried to get Mark Hamill to teach him the Force, and has a very awkward moment with Benedict Cumberbatch and a corn dog.

Watch the video here:

I’m not sure I have favorite interview. They were all too funny. Let me know in the comments what your favorite is!
