The Disneyland Resort in California has really stepped it up with their seasonal celebrations this year. Not only did they expand Halloween Time to Disney’s California Adventure park, but they also added an entirely new celebration: Plaza de la Familia, A Celebration of Coco and the Everlasting Bonds of Family. Plaza de la Familia celebrates the tradition of Dia de los Muertos and is a wonderful chance for families to learn more about the traditional holiday. Disney Expands Mickey Check System To Include Star Wars and Marvel-themed Food

The Check is Disney’s quick and easy way of identifying healthier foods and beverages that meet the Walt Disney Company’s rigorous Nutrition Guideline Criteria that helps parents and kids agree on and make healthier eating choices.  You’ll find Disney Check/ Mickey Check symbols on Walt Disney World and Disneyland restaurant menus (including online menus).  In addition, you’ll find Mickey Check on various Disney-licensed food products sold at grocery stores across the country.

Disney is pleased to announce today that they are expanding the Disney Check program to include both Marvel and Star Wars brands. You’ll find the new Star Wars and Marvel branded icons (like the ones above) in store, online and anywhere that Disney products are sold.

Disney launched the “Disney Check” in response to parents who were looking for a simple and easy way to identify healthier food and beverage choices.  According to Elissa Margolis, senior vice president of Enterprise Social Responsibility for Disney, “Disney is committed to creating healthier generations by making healthy living fun and simple. Parents are looking for positive ways to encourage nutritious eating with their kids, and the expanded Disney Family of Checks puts the full power of the Disney, Star Wars, and Marvel brands to work for families.”

“We work with best-in-class food and beverage companies, and are excited that the Check tool is encouraging families to make healthier choices,” said John T. King, vice president, Licensing, Disney Consumables. “We are always looking for new ways to expand our offering of healthy foods, and are thrilled to work with our licensees and partners to leverage this expanded tool.”

Disney’s Nutrition Guideline Policy is part of The Walt Disney Company’s Healthy Living Commitment, which also includes efforts to support and promote physical activity, healthy habits, and nutritious food and beverages.

New Set Photos Emerge of Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp Sequel

We announced a few months ago that Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Peña, Academy Award® winner Michael Douglas, Bobby Cannavale, Judy Greer, Abby Ryder Fortson, Tip “T.I.” Harris, and David Dastmalchian will be returning to their original roles on the big screen.in Ant-Man and the Wasp. They will also be joined by Academy Award® nominees Michelle Pfeiffer and Laurence Fishburne, along with Hannah John-Kamen, Walton Goggins, and Randall Park. “Ant-Man” director Peyton Reed will be returning as well.

The new feature, slated to be released next Summer picks up with Scott Lang (Rudd) as he struggles with the consequences of his choices as both a Super Hero and a dad.  He’s confronted by Hope van Dyne (Lilly) and Dr. Hank Pym (Douglas) with an urgent new mission. Scott must suit up once again, and fight alongside The Wasp as they work together to uncover secrets from their past.

Disney World Cast Member’s ‘Rally For a Raise’ Ended by Police

We reported earlier this week that Cast Members at Walt Disney World planned a rally as their unions are in negotiations with Disney for a pay increase. The “Rally for a Raise” was planned to bring awareness to the number of Cast Members that work for Disney World and feel they don’t receive a “living wage.” The Rally began at 5 pm on Thursday, October 19 and online reports are indicting that it was broken up by Orange County Police Deputies after only two hours.

Orange County Deputies deemed the rally an “unlawful assembly’ as it began to block traffic on S. Apoka Vineyard Road which is directly across from one of the entrances to Walt Disney World. Reports indicate that the Deputies threatened to arrest Cast Members participating in the rally but in the end, it ended without incident.

Sparkling Toy Story Hair Bows

When it comes to Disney outfits, the perfect accessory can really make you stand out. These  Sparkling Toy Story Hair Bows from the Buns and Braids Shop definetly have a friend in me when it comes to deciding on the right accessory.

When it comes to creating a Toy Story inspired outfit, I always have the challenge of not going too cheesy or over the top. It’s easy to get carried away with chunky toy themed items, but I like my Disney outfits to be a bit more subtle, with fun character pops that tell my style story. These glittery bows inspired by Buzz Lightyear and Woody are exactly what I love to find.

The Woody inspired bow has the classic colors we associate with our favorite cowboy, plus other incredible details. There’s a strip of bandanna fabric that represents Woody’s infamous red bandanna, plus a strip of cow print ribbon that looks just like his vest!

The Buzz inspired bow has the classic White, purple, and green motif of his iconic space suit. The details on this bow are a bit more subtle, but capture the sleek and simplistic vibe of him perfectly with red, green, and blue buttons. Luckily we don’t have to worry about shooting lasers with this bow though!

Buns and Braids makes very durable high quality hair bows that you can get on alligator clips, or comfortable no slip nylon headbands. Walt Disney World Resort Cast Members can now receive a 20% off discount on their food and non-alcoholic beverage purchases at select marketplaces at Epcot’s International Food & Wine Festival.  Like last year, the discount can only be used Monday through Thursday, through November 9th.  Also, the discount can only be used on non-cash transactions.  Accepted methods of payment include debit card, credit card, Walt Disney World Resort Room Charge, Disney Gift Card, and Food & Wine Card.

Earlier this year, Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa began an exciting hotel-wide renovation at the Disneyland Resort. Guest rooms  have been completely redesigned with a fresh sense of luxury and the pool deck has been refreshed with beautiful, new hardscapes to reinforce the Arts and Crafts style. This is the most extensive refurbishment since the hotel opened in 2001.

As if the lobby wasn’t already stunning enough, the six-story Grand Hall lobby was recently upgraded with new, stylish furnishings and design elements. Here’s a closer look at some of the details found in the lobby.

New contemporary designs can be found throughout furniture pieces, upholstery graphics, woodwork and carpeting.

Custom tete-a-tete chairs provide interesting design and function, while boldly upholstered sofa and chair pairings offer a comfortable, welcoming setting. Coffee tables feature beautiful inlay woodwork and leather-topped stools showcase hidden Mickey details. The redesigned space is perfect for lounging with family, relaxing with a glass of wine from the Hearthstone Lounge, or simply admiring the lobby’s focal point—the cavernous fireplace and its roaring fire.

Also, new hardwood flooring has been installed throughout the lobby, as well as new carpet. Walt Disney Imagineers wanted to keep the same California-poppy-patterned carpet design, but used different materials to make the colors and textures more vivid and dimensional. The carpet’s design was inspired by the textile work of designer William Morris, one of the earliest and most influential proponents of the Arts and Crafts movement.
