Robert Guillaume, Voice of Rafiki in ‘The Lion King,’ Dies at 89

We have some sad news to pass along this evening. Variety is reporting Robert Guillaume has passed away at the age of 89. Guillaume is best known for his title character role on the sitcom, Benson, and voicing Rafiki in the classic Disney movie, The Lion King.

Guillaume was also cast in several other television, movie, and Broadway roles. Some of his television accolades include the ABC Sitcom, Sports Night, and The Robert Guillaume Show. He was featured in movies such as Meteor Man and Spy Hard. On Broadway, he starred in Cyrano – The Musical and Phantom of the Opera.

Guillaume won several awards during his career including a spoken recording Grammy for his role as Rafiki in The Lion King.

Guillaume was originally born “Robert Peter Williams” in St. Louis, Missouri. He changed his name after he he decided to peruse his acting career. He is survived by his wife, one son (another died in 1990), and three daughters.

The premiere of Disney – Pixar’s much-anticipated movie, “Coco”, is less than a month away and Disney Springs is celebrating! From October 27 to November 26, Disney Springs will be hosting a family-friendly fiesta for Guests on the West Side of the entertainment complex.

In the film, aspiring musician Miguel teams up with charming trickster Héctor on an extraordinary journey through the Land of the Dead. At Disney Springs, guests will get a taste of the bright and vibrant world of “Coco” through a medley of themed music, food, and décor daily from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

With a flurry of colorful papel picados planned and décor depicting scenes from the movie, Exposition Park will be a lively cornucopia of family-friendly fun. On weekends (Friday, Saturday and Sunday), there will also be face-painting and activities for kids. Hungry for more? Springs’ Street Tacos Food Truck will serve up vanilla flan for a limited time, alongside their signature taco offerings.

Olaf Will Be Larger Than Life When he Makes His Debut at The 91st Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

Frozen fans have something exciting to look forward to this Thanksgiving! Olaf will be making his debut in the 91st Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Olaf is one of four new giant character balloons in the 91st annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.

And that’s not all, the lovable snowman voiced by Josh Gad is back in a starring role in Olaf’s Frozen Adventure a new short debuting with Pixar’s Coco, which hits theaters Nov. 22. The 22-minute short is a continuation of the original Frozen, with Anna and Elsa getting ready for the holidays with Olaf’s help to make it a magical Christmas.

Gad is beyond excited for the parade this year, “Having an Olaf balloon alongside Mickey, Elmo and Big Bird is a dream come true and something that, because (the parade’s) so storied and has such a long tradition, I now get to share with my own kids,” says Gad.

Chris Buck, who directed the first Frozen movie in 2013, drew a sketch for the balloon that was used as inspiration for the Macy’s Parade Studio design team.

Gad has officially started voice work on the anticipated Frozen sequel due in November 2019. “It really is spectacular — the stuff I’ve seen, the stuff I’ve heard and the stuff I’ve read,” he says. “I’m truly excited.”

“In the first movie, he sings an entire song about the fact that he thinks that summer and warmth are great things for someone like him,” Gad says. “But in this short, he’s seeking knowledge, which is sort of a unique thing. He wants to know about these things called traditions that everyone in Arendelle has and not only embrace those traditions but find the ones that will directly help the people closest to him — these two sisters who are the very reasons why he’s alive.”

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade airs November 23rd at 9 a.m. ET/PT on NBC.

TSA Changes At Orlando International Airport Are Coming

TSA changes at Orlando International Airport are being introduced.

So many guests visiting Walt Disney World start and end their vacation at the Orlando International Airport. And now the Transportation Security Administration has begun to roll out new, stricter screening regulations for carry on luggage that may impact those guests on their return flights.

Announced earlier this year, this new policy requires all electronics larger than a cellphone be removed from luggage and placed in bins for X-ray screening in standard lines.

Travelers will now need to remove all tablets, e-readers and handheld gaming devices and place them in a bin with nothing on top or below them. This is similar to how laptops have been screened for years. According to TSA Federal Security Director Jerry Henderson, “TSA has enhanced its security procedures to stay ahead of evolving threats.”

TSA officials are advising guests to organize their carryon luggage and keep them free from clutter to keep the lines moving and the process streamlined. Officials also said that there has been no changes to items that can be brought through the check point.

This new regulation does not apply to those who enrolled in TSA PreCheck.

Construction Set To Begin On New Live Entertainment Theater At Magic Kingdom

Magic Kingdom Cast Members will need to look for a new place to park starting this Saturday, October 28th as their backstage parking lot located between Main Street U.S.A. and Tomorrowland will be closed. A filming event is planned for that area and, once it wraps, construction will begin on the new live entertainment theater based on the iconic Willis Theater in 1920s Kansas City.

A preview of the new theater was unveiled at the D23 Expo 2017. “Across Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, we’ve been upping the game in Entertainment with shows like Frozen Live at the Hyperion,” Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts said. “It’s been a huge hit at the Disneyland Resort, and I’m sure many of you have seen it. This new theater at Walt Disney World continues that streak by bringing a new venue for world-class entertainment to the world’s biggest park.”

The exact opening date has not been released yet. We will share more details as they are released.

On December 16 Star Wars fans will be gearing up for the return of Star Wars: Galactic Nights at Hollywood Studios. It’s not just about the amazing events planned but also the out-of-this-world food and beverage offerings that even the scruffiest of nerf herders will get excited about.

The chefs at Disney’s Hollywood Studios have drawn inspiration from iconic Star Wars characters, stories and worlds have created a whole host of gourmet bites just for the event!

Shrimp and Chorizo Skewer is a new menu offering this year. This dish is a tribute to the hearty appetite of the Wookiees, it is a generously-loaded skewer complete with Chorizo sausage, sweet potato hash and shrimp.

Another new item this year is the Tatooine Bisque, inspired by the sandstorms and moisture farms of Tatooine with rutabaga, turnips, carrots and parsnips.

The Sweet and Crunchy Popcorn is based on the iconic garbage chute scene in Episode IV! This popcorn comes loaded with cookies, caramel, chocolate and pecans.

It wouldn’t be a Star Wars event without the popular Lightsaber Churro! Choose between the Light Side and the Dark Side with these Lightsaber-themed churros, offered with red or blue sugar and a Lightsaber Hilt. Toy Story Land coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Summer 2018 will have a new Quick Service Restaurant! Ladies and Gentlemen, introducing: Woody’s Lunch Box!

When Toy Story Land opens at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, guests will shrink to the size of a toy and explore all of the fun (and toys!) Andy has constructed in his backyard. This story continues at Woody’s Lunch Box, where Andy has used his lunch box and thermos to create a walk-up quick-service window that will serve up tasty meals and old-fashioned soda floats. In the rendering above, you can see that Woody’s Lunch Box – like the rest of Toy Story Land – has been adorably strewn about with some of Andy’s favorite toys and items from his lunch. You can even spot a green army man on a nearby lookout tower, keeping watch for Andy’s return.
