Star Wars Day at Sea

Disney Cruise Line has announced some exciting news for Star Wars fans. For the 15 special Star Wars Day at Sea sailings scheduled for January through April, fans have even more opportunities to meet Star Wars characters aboard ship.

Next year Disney Cruise Line guests are guaranteed a time to meet and take photographs with C-3PO and R2-D2, Chewbacca and Darth Vader. You will be able to reserve time with these character experiences online under the My Disney Cruise section of disneycruise.com even before you come aboard.

Star Wars Day at Sea is a full day of fun, including Star Wars-themed family and youth activities, plus a deck party spectacular with an extraordinary fireworks display.

Disney Faces Lawsuit After Couples Claims A Bed Bug Infestation Ruined Their Vacation

A New York couple is suing Disney Development Inc. after a stay at one of their Florida properties during which the couple states a bed bug infestation ruined their vacation and caused significant physical and emotional harm.

Allyson L. Masciotti-Hamedl and Kevin Hamedl of Poughquag, N.Y. are seeking damages of $100,000 to $1 million.  Their lawsuit claims Disney failed to “exercise reasonable care and breached its duty” with proper management, operations and maintenance at Disney’s Vero Beach Resort by keeping it free from hazardous conditions.

Filed in June, the lawsuit states Masciotti-Hamedl awoke during her stay at the resort in September 2016 to “bugs crawling all over the bed, linens, and surrounding walls of her room.”  This suit was originally  filed in Dutchess County (N.Y.) and will be decided in the Southern District Court of New York.

According to the couple, hotel staff had them leave their room and they were given accomodations at another Disney property. The couple states it was later confirmed the bugs Masciotti-Hamedl had seen in their room were bed bugs.

In the days and months that followed their vacation Masciotti-Hamedl missed time from work as she was dealing with painful bites.  She states in the compliant that those bites turned into welts and the kept her from being able to perform her job duties to their expectations. Also in the lawsuit she claims to have continued difficulty sleeping and suffers anxiety as a result of the infestation, for which she has sought psychiatric treatment. Hamedl also claims to have suffered emotional hardship.

In the complaint against Disney Development Inc. the couple alleges the company failed to notify the couple of the infestation, failed to have regular inspections of rooms, and failed to properly sanitize the room in question, among other precautions.

Representatives of the Disney company did not respond to requests for comment according to a new article.

Disney Lends Support To Feeding America Initiative as Part of Their "Share The Joy" Campaign

The Walt Disney Company announced earlier this week that they have contributed $1 million to  Feeding America® to help food banks expand their local fresh produce sourcing and distribution programs that serve families and kids in need. The funds will be distributed to 60 food banks throughout the country. The announcement was made on ABC’s “The Chew” and kicked off Disney’s “Share the Joy” campaign which was created to inspire families around the world to help others and make a positive impact on their community this holiday season.

As part of “Share the Joy,” Feeding American and Disney will collaborate to expand access to healthy living option in neighborhoods where kids and families live, work and play.  This is part of Disney’s long-standing commitment to create healthier generates and inspire healthier eating habits.

To further the message, Disney|ABC Television Group will be launching a series of Public Service Announcements that will run on ABC, Freeform, Disney Channel and Disney XD throughout the month of December. ABC has announced that their local television stations are also expected to follow suit and that many of these will host volunteer events with local food banks.

During a segment on “The Chew” earlier in the week, Kids Cafe (a child nutrition program of the Houston Food Bank) were featured along with a few volunteers to focus on how the initiative will allow them to give back to the community in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. Houston Food bank was one of several Feeding America food banks impacted by the hurricanes earlier this year.  To support the banks in these recovery areas, Disney pledged an additional $500,000 earlier this year.

Feeding America is the largest hunger-relief and food rescue organization in America with 200 member food banks and 60,000 food pantries and meal programs.  The goal of the organization is not simple to provide meals for people in need, but also to provide nutritious foods that are the building blocks to a healthy life.

The flavors of Christmas are definitely upon us as a wide array of tantalizing Yuletide treats are now being spotted around the theme parks.  If there are two that had us talking this morning, it’s definitely the peppermint and chocolate-dipped waffle cones as well as the peppermint bark hot fudge sundaes being served up at Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Ice Cream Shop at Disney California Adventure Park.

Many Disney-foodies have taken to Instagram to show off these incredible Christmas-inspired treats.  Take a look:

The waffle cones can be added to any scoop combination to give it that special holiday taste.

Houston Astros Star Players to Celebrate World Series Victory With Trip to Disney World

As the city of Houston, Texas erupts in celebration over the Astro’s victory in this year’s World Series, three of their most star players have their sights set on a celebration at Walt Disney World.   Mickey Mouse and friends will be extending a warm welcome to MVP George Springer and star players Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa with a Victory Parade down Main Street U.S.A at Magic Kingdom on Saturday, November 4th. Here’s a quick look at the parade schedule:

  • 12:15 pm: Media arrivals at Disney’s Contemporary Resort for transportation via media shuttle to Magic Kingdom.
  • 12:45 pm: Parade down Main Street, U.S.A., – Media viewing area
  • 1:15 pm: Media interview opportunity with players on East Lawn

Springer, Correa and Altuve were crucial in the Astros 5-1 victory in Game 7 held in Lost Angeles on Wednesday night. The win delivered the Astros its first World Series title in its 56-year history.

Springer came up big for the Astros throughout the seven games.  He hit .379 with seven RBIs and five home runs including a two-run blast to help the Astros win Game 2 in the 11th inning. He also led the charge in Game 7, starting off with a double and then adding a two-run home run that helped Houston to a 5-0 lead.  His 5 home runs tied a World Series record and his 8 extra-base hits are the most ever in the history of the World Series.

Altuve, who led the American League in hitting during the regular season and hit .310 in the postseason, delivered for the Astros throughout the World Series. He hit two home runs and drove in six runs. His biggest contribution came in Game 5 with a three-run homer and drove in another run that helped his team to a  13-12 victory in 10 innings.

Correa was one of the team’s most consistent hitters. He hit two home runs and drove in five runs in the World Series. Correa also he melted the hearts of nearly everyone in Game 7, getting a hit in the 6th inning before getting engaged to his girlfriend just moments after the Astros won the World Series championship.

Springer, Altuve and Correa will celebrate with Mickey Mouse and friends as well as thousands of cheering fans who are expected to line the parade route on Saturday. The players will likely also get to spend time enjoying all that Disney has to offer including rides, attractions and entertainment.

This Astros parade is in keeping with Disney’s  tradition of celebrating major achievements in sports including professional football,  basketball and hockey wins. The Astros join the ranks of other winning teams like the Boston Red Sox (2004) and the Chicago Cubs (2016) who have celebrated their team’s achievements with celebratory parades at Walt Disney World Resort.

Magic Kingdom fans will notice a change while walking down Main Street. A new facade has appeared advertising the beloved House of Magic store from over 20 years ago. But don’t get too excited, this is just an outside change and the inside is still the Emporium. But if you head inside there is a House of Magic shirt available for sale to commemorate the return of the building.

The House of Magic store opened with the park in 1971 and closed on June 28, 1995 making way for the Hall of Champions.

View Star Wars: The Last Jedi Early with a Double Feature in Downtown Disney

AMC Downtown Disney 12 is showing a Star Wars double feature on December 14th, 2017 beginning with Star Wars: The Force Awakens and leading into Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The double feature will begin at 3:00 p.m. with Star Wars: The Last Jedi beginning at 6:00 p.m. making it the earliest showing of the newest Star Wars film.

Moviegoers viewing the double feature will receive a pack of collectible Star Wars: The Last Jedi trading cards, a regular popcorn, and will also view special content.

Tickets to the double feature are on sale now, CLICK HERE to purchase. The double feature excludes use of Green, Red, AMC Silver Experience and AMC Gold Experience tickets. Theater guests are welcome to dress in costume, however weapons and masks will not be permitted into the theater.
