Premiere Date for American Idol on ABC Announced!

American Idol

“American Idol,” the iconic series that revolutionized the television landscape by pioneering the music competition genre, will return to airwaves on SUNDAY, MARCH 11 (8:00–10:00 p.m. EDT), at its new home on The ABC Television Network. Ryan Seacrest announced the news today on “Live with Kelly and Ryan.”

The nationwide search for the next superstar kicked off in August, as the Idol Bus traveled from Portland, Oregon, to Orlando, Florida, in its pursuit of talent, covering 23 cities across the country. Auditioning was made easier than ever as hopefuls also had the opportunity to submit audition videos online, as well as via select social media platforms using an official tag, #TheNextIdol, cultivating over 300,000 posts. Also, for the first time in “American Idol” history, hopefuls had the opportunity to audition through a live stream platform.

Helping to determine who America will ultimately vote for to become the next singing sensation, are music industry forces and superstar judges, Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie. Emmy® Award-winning host and producer Ryan Seacrest will return as host of the beloved series.

Is Disney Buying 21st Century Fox?

Is Disney Buying 21st Century Fox?

CNBC is reporting that Disney is in talks with 21st Century Fox to purchase most of their company. The motive by Fox looking to sell to Disney? Fox is wanting to shift its focus solely to news and sports.

Sources are reporting that the talks have been on and off during the past few weeks. No formal deal has been reached at this time.

If a deal were to be reached, Disney would be purchasing the Fox Movie Studio, TV production and international assets such as Star and Sky. Disney would also be adding other entertainment stations to their portfolio such as National Geographic and FX. Disney would not be able to own two broadcast networks or another sports network so those would be staying with Fox as it seems Fox would want them to. Disney already owns ABC and ESPN.

As you can imagine, this would be huge news for Disney especially with Disney in development to launch their own Netflix-type streaming service. It would mean Disney would have control of yet another movie studio and TV production assets to bring to their new streaming service.

No comment has been offered by Disney or Fox at this time.

Keep following along with us for the latest updates on this developing situation.

Disney Springs Joins Cows ‘N Cabs Annual Fundraiser in Winter Park for a Good Cause

Disney Springs Joins Cows 'N Cabs Annual Fundraiser in Winter Park for a Good Cause

One of the funnest events of the fall season is this Saturday, Nov. 11. It’s the seventh annual Cows ‘n Cabs.

C ‘n C is spearheaded by 4 Rivers Smokehouse founder John Rivers. Smart man that he is, Rivers noticed that every year the city of Winter Park puts up an elaborate pavilion-sized tent in Central Park’s West Meadow. The tent is used first for Fashion Week and then for the holiday ice rink. But in between, it just sat there, empty.

He gets together a bunch of other chefs and restaurateurs and pulls in some people who pour wine, beer and cocktaily things. They get a band to play some music, and everybody just wanders around eating, drinking and having a good time.

And for a good cause, too. The proceeds of ticket sales will benefit After-School All-Stars and Elevate Orlando, two local charities that work with underserved youths.

Tickets are $110 per person or $140 for VIP access, which also gets you in an hour early. Otherwise, the event is from 7 to 10 p.m. Whichever ticket level, it’s open only to adults 21 and over, so you don’t have to dodge SUV-sized baby carriages like at the Winter Park Art Festival.

This year, David Larue of ABC Fine Wine & Spirits is listed as co-host with Rivers, which should help with the beverages that make this an adult-only event. By the way, despite the name, there’s a lot more to eat than beef and a lot more to drink than cabernet sauvignon. In fact, for the past several years, Rivers and his crew have featured a full roast pig at their booth.

Elton John Made Special Appearance at The Lion King Broadway Show

Elton John Made Special Appearance at The Lion King Broadway Show

During The Lion King‘s curtain call, Elton John performed “Circle of Life” in celebration of the musical’s 20th anniversary on Broadway. The show, which debuted at the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis on July 8, 1997, officially opened at the New Amsterdam Theater on Nov. 13, 1997.

The Lion King went on to win six Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and eight Drama Desk Awards; the musical moved to The Minskoff Theater in 2006. The Lion King—adapted from the animated film of the same name—is Broadway’s third longest-running show, with over 8,310 performances. It’s earned over $1 billion, making it the highest-grossing stage show in history.

The original Broadway cast recording won a Grammy in 1999 for Best Musical Show Album. The Lion King musical included three songs by Elton John and Tim Rice that did not appear in the original animated film: “Chow Down,” “The Madness of King Scare” and “The Morning Report.”

To celebrate its 20th anniversary, John’s Lion King videos are now available to stream on Vevo.

The current cast, who sang in Zulu, backed John during Sunday’s surprise performance.

Producers have invited fans to attend a free performance of The Lion King on Nov. 15 at 8 p.m. To win tickets, fans must enter the lottery in person during the Times Square Celebration on Nov. 12, which will include a meet and greet, a photo-op, a virtual reality experience and more.

Construction on the Grand Floridian’s Gingerbread House Has Begun!

Grand Floridian

Grand Floridian

We are excited to announce that the Gingerbread House is going up at the Grand Floridian! Over the weekend, we spotted the “shell” of the house in the lobby at the Resort.

If you are not familiar with Gingerbread House, it might be one of the most magical things you can see in all of Walt Disney World during the holiday season. The life-size Gingerbread House is made with a classic gingerbread recipe from Austria. This gargantuan creation is 16 feet high and uses 1,050 pounds of honey, 800 pounds of flour – and it takes more than 400 hours just to bake the gingerbread! What’s even better, you can buy gingerbread, hot chocolate, and other holiday-themed treats directly from the house!

Grand Floridian

In addition to the treats, the Gingerbread House makes the lobby smell like the sweetest place on the planet. There is nothing like getting off the Monorail, walking into the Grand Floridian, and smelling all of that gingerbread goodness!

Grand Floridian

An official date of when the Gingerbread House will open has not been announced yet. Last year it was completed and open on November 16, 2016. Keep following along with us and we will let you know when it’s officially open!

Festive Holiday Photo Tour of Hollywood Studios! First Look at Some of the Amazing Holiday Offerings!

Disney World

The holidays have arrived at Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios! Decorations are up, holiday treats are plentiful, adorable holiday buckets are ready to be filled with popcorn and a new holiday show is getting ready for the official debut. This past week Chip and Company’s Chip Confer and contributor Lizette Raynor double-teamed the park to give us a first look at all the holiday festivities this season at Hollywood Studios.

Pluto is all decked out in his holiday sweater for this year’s collector holiday popcorn bucket. This adorable bucket is $13.50 and is refillable at Hollywood Studios. A second popcorn bucket is also available featuring Mickey and The Gang showcasing their holiday best.

If your sweet tooth needs a little satisfying, Hollywood Studios has plenty of festive holiday cupcakes and treats. The seasonal Gingerbread Cupcake has a light, fluffy, smooth cream cheese frosting. Yummy!

Holiday decorations fill the park. From the park entrance, down Hollywood Boulevard to Echo Lake, the Christmas season has arrived at Hollywood Studios!

A new flight featuring “spirited” hot chocolate available is available at Farifax Fare and Min and Bill’s Dockside Diner. There are three different hot chocolate flavors available and you can purchase a whole one individually for $9.25 or a flight three smaller versions for $11.00.

In case cupcakes didn’t satisfy your sugar craving, how about an Olaf Sundae created on top of a Krispy Kreme jelly donut?!

Here’s a sneak peak of “Sunset Seasons Greetings.” This brand new show will take place during the holidays down Sunset Boulevard and features amazing projections on the Tower of Terror as well as holiday displays on the new LED signage.

We were so excited to see new merchandise featuring Jingle Bell, Jingle Bam!

Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Runner Collapses And Dies

Runner Collapses

In sad news today, Jacquee Wahler, a spokesperson for Walt Disney World has confirmed that yesterday a runner participating in the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon has died. The runner apparently collapsed upon nearing the finish line and then later died.

“We offer our sincerest sympathies to the family and loved ones of the runner during this difficult time,” Wahler said.

In Wahler’s statement she did not disclose the runner’s name, age or details of the death.

The 13.1-mile race, in its eighth year, started at the Magic Kingdom parking lot at 5:30 am and ended at Epcot. This year there were close to 15,000 registrants for the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon.
