The Walt Disney World Resort is filled with many wonderful and unique dining locations, I always look forward to the delicious meals we get to enjoy while visiting, the food is truly a highlight of our stay. The amazing dining experiences aren’t just limited to the theme parks, but extended to a number of the Disney resorts on property, as well as Disney Springs. In fact, OpenTable recently announced a list of the 100 best restaurants for group dining, and two restaurants located in Disney Springs made the cut!
Between October 1st, 2016 and September 29th, 2017 OpenTable gathered data from 10 million diner reviews, selecting restaurants with a minimum overall score, as well as a set qualifying number of reviews, then scored those restaurants based on their percentage of reviews listed as “great for groups.” The Boathouse and Raglan Road Irish Pub and Restaurant both made the list, which comes as no surprise to me.
The Boathouse, located in the Landing at Disney Springs, is an upscale waterfront signature dining experience featuring steak and seafood selections. If you’re looking for an interactive experience, The Boathouse marina offers guests private cruises and live entertainment, daily. The second Disney Springs restaurant to make the top 100 list, Raglan Road Irish Pub is also located in the Landing at Disney Springs and features a menu of award winning Irish food and drinks. The pub and restaurant also features free live entertainment, daily.

Sharing some exciting news from Lucasfilm today – Facebook, Fitbit, Industrial Light & Magic, Instagram, Twitter, Google, and Lucasfilm joined forces last night to inspire the next generation of inventors at the first-ever Droidathon. The event ushered in a competition for Star Wars fans – with Kathleen Kennedy, Daisy Ridley, and Kelly Marie Tran as judges for the invention competition running from November 15 – January 10.
San Francisco, CA – November 15, 2017 – littleBits, the award-winning company that empowers kids to be inventors, joined Lucasfilm today to reveal never-before-seen Droids designed by technologists from top Bay Area innovators, all created in celebration of a global competition aimed to inspire the next generation of inventors and shed light on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math).
Held at the Lucasfilm San Francisco campus, iconic Bay Area technology companies came together for the first-ever “Droidathon,” an event for kids from local organizations including the Black Girls CODE, Booker T. Washington School Community Center, The Boys & Girls Club, and the YMCA where inventors showcased their Droid creations and discussed their ideation and inspiration. Using the littleBits Droid Inventor Kit as a starting point, teams of engineers, programmers, and designers created innovative Droids using the core electronic building blocks together with 3D printing, craft material, soldering, and programming. The Droidathon kicked off the littleBits Competition: Droid Inventor Kit which invites kids, families, and Star Wars fans—residing in the US, UK, and Canada – to share their own unique Droid creations with the inventor community. The competition will run from November 15, 2017, to January 10, 2018. Fans and families will be able to submit their own Droid design creations, with qualifying submissions judged by Star Wars: The Last Jedi stars Daisy Ridley (the actress who portrays Rey in the current Star Wars trilogy) and Kelly Marie Tran (the actress who portrays Rose Tico in Star Wars: The Last Jedi) alongside Ayah Bdeir (founder and CEO of littleBits) and Kathleen Kennedy (president of Lucasfilm).
“Star Wars has always expanded kids’ imaginations and inspired them to see what is possible,” said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm. “We’re excited to collaborate with all of these incredible companies and littleBits to showcase the power of STEAM in action and inspire the next generation of inventors.”

Ahead of its U.S. debut on Nov. 22, Pixar’s Coco is already breaking records in its first international market, Mexico, where today it will become the #1 film of all time in local currency.
Through Nov. 14 (19 days of release), Coco has taken in 824M pesos and will today pass the 827M pesos earned by The Avengers during its entire run. The film debuted Oct. 27 and has held the #1 spot at the box office for its first three consecutive weeks. At current exchange rates, the Mexico gross translates to $43.1M in USD.

Merry holiday moments from Disney theme parks around the world and a star-studded cast of entertainers will launch a “25 Days of Christmas”countdown when “The Wonderful World of Disney: Magical Holiday Celebration” airs Thursday, Nov. 30, from 9:00–11:00 p.m. EST on The ABC Television Network.

Tony Award-winning actress Idina Menzel will join fellow “Frozen” star Kristen Bell to perform together for the first time on prime time television. The pair, who voiced the characters of Elsa and Anna in the animated blockbuster, will perform in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland Park in California accompanied by a 30-voice choir. The two stars of stage and screen will sing “When We’re Together” from the brand-new Walt Disney Animation Studios featurette, “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure.”

From the edge of the galaxy “to infinity and beyond,” viewers will discover Andy’s world in the new Toy Story Land to open next year at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. The new family-friendly Slinky Dog Dash roller coaster and the Alien Swirling Saucers attraction will join the original Toy Story Midway Mania! attraction to give Woody, Buzz and Andy’s entire toy collection a backyard play land scaled to render park guests seemingly toy-sized.
Musical performances in the prime time special will include:

Viewers at Home Will Be Able to “Glow with the Show”
For the first time, viewers will be able to “Glow at Home” during select performances in the holiday special, thanks to the brand new “Made with Magic® 3.0: Connected Ear Hat” and the Shop Disney Parks app. Leveraging Bluetooth® technology, the Shop Disney Parks app enables viewers wearing the new 3.0 edition ear hats at home to sync with the ABC holiday special playing on the viewers’ TVs or other devices. Viewers will feel like they are part of the show.

The app also has a remote-control feature to adjust the ear colors and speed of the strobe – a brand-new feature for the Made with Magic® Ear Hats. One of the things my husband continues to ask me is: “When are they making an all black MagicBand?”. I’ve started to think it was probably just a far off dream that wasn’t going to come true, but it looks like something magical will be happening this Black Friday. That’s right, the much wished for solid black MagicBand is finally being launched!
I have to say, that the new black MagicBand coming out for Black Friday is absolutely perfect! Ever since the first little squeal from a porg I heard during the Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer, I’ve been totally obsessed and in love with the adorable little things. There are lots of toys, and even a new Her Universe apparel collection for the adorable new characters, but not much in the accessories department, so my heart totally melted when I saw these Porg Earrings on Etsy.
They’re an adorably dainty size, which is perfect for wearing anytime of day. They’re also handmade, which I also love. My son is also a huge fan of the porgs, and I know he’ll love seeing mommy wearing them! I can especially see using them for a Rey inspired DisneyBound outfit too. Now I just need an adorable Porg in a Pocket sweater from Her Universe to go with them!

For the 2017 winter season, the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort will debut a new Christmas tree as the centerpiece of the resort’s holiday display. The tree itself will light up with a variety of colors and patterns and perform to holiday music throughout the holiday season. The new 24-foot tall tree will be prominently on display in the newly renovated Dolphin lobby.
The tree joins the other annual holiday festivities and activities that have become guest favorites over the years as, once again, Santa, Mrs. Claus and their favorite elf, Kandy Kane, will be escaping the cold at Santa’s favorite resort. Other returning favorites include Bedtime Elf Tuck-ins and a 2,000 lb. life-size chocolate holiday scene.

Santa and Mrs. Claus Meet ‘n Greets
Santa, Mrs. Claus and Kandy Kane, decked out in their Florida vacation attire, will meet guests in Santa’s customized Tiki Hut on select nights starting Nov. 24. This is a unique holiday photo opportunity, filled with Florida flair that features reindeer, palm trees and flamingos.
A Florida Snow Fall and Tree Lighting Ceremony
With a new look for the resort following completion of the recent renovation, the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort’s holiday tree is getting revamped as well. Throughout December, the lobby will transform into a festive holiday scene featuring a 24-ft tall Christmas tree that’s never been seen before. The tree features cutting-edge light technology which will fill the Dolphin lobby with wintertime cheer. Regularly timed indoor snow falls complete the holiday scene. On select nights, guests can join Mrs. Claus in the Dolphin lobby for the lighting of the Christmas tree starting at 6 p.m. The ceremony is followed by hot holiday beverages and crafts for kids at Santa’s Tiki Hut.
Bedtime Elf Tuck-Ins
This year Santa’s elves return to bring holiday joy to children staying at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort. On select nights starting Dec. 1, elves will deliver milk, cookies, a plush toy and storybook to resort rooms. Elves will also read a bedtime story and tuck children on Santa’s nice list into bed, dressed in full costume. Price varies by date and a service charge of 24 percent is added, in addition to tax. Life-Size Chocolate Holiday Santa Scene
Constructed entirely of chocolate, this life-sized sculpture weighs in at approximately 2,000 pounds! The sculpture, created by the resort’s executive pastry chef Laurent Branlard (two-time world pastry champion), is showcased in the lobby of the Swan. It features chocolate Santa sitting in his chair, a 7-foot tall, 400-pound chocolate nutcracker, chocolate fireplace, chocolate Christmas tree and chocolate toy train. The scene will be displayed in the lobby of the resort throughout December and is 100 percent edible. However, any chocolate lovers thinking of taking on the challenge of consuming this enormous sweet, should consider that it is 4 million calories! (By the way, the sculpture is not available for tasting.)
Magic Keys for Santa on Christmas Eve
How will Santa deliver presents to each guest room without a chimney? With a magic key! Children can hang a magic key on their door to help Santa find his way on Christmas Eve. Magic keys are available at the concierge desk.
Dancing Lights Show
A dazzling musical light show transforms the outdoor causeway each evening into a holiday spectacle with dancing illuminated palm trees and favorite holiday tunes.

The LEGOLAND Florida Resort is giving everyone a sneak preview of their upcoming virtual reality (VR) roller coaster adventure! A new innovative mobile app is letting fans experience the 360-degree theme park action with or without a VR headset. The Great LEGO® Race opens Nov. 22 at LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort, followed in Spring 2018 at LEGOLAND Florida Resort and Germany’s LEGOLAND Deutschland Resort.
Developed under the supervision of Merlin Magic Making, the global creative and delivery division of parent company Merlin Entertainments Group, The Great LEGO Race will transform the three theme parks’ existing Project X roller coasters into a high-octane experience that puts guests in the driver’s seat for a rollicking race against a colorful lineup of LEGO minifigure characters.
Wearing optional VR headsets, riders will experience the action from every direction – up, down, forward, backward and all points in between – in a dazzling environment where everything is made of LEGO bricks.
Fans can preview the 360-degree experience with MackMedia’s Coastiality mobile app (www.coastiality.com/en/), available for iOS, Android and Oculus devices from the App Store, Google Play and the Oculus Store. The app is free to download and can be enjoyed with or without a VR headset.
The Great LEGO Race is the first virtual reality roller coaster experience designed for kids and represents the first time the LEGO brand and minifigure characters have been integrated with VR technology in a theme park attraction. With action taking place on the ground and in the air, the wild and wacky race pits guests against LEGO minifigures including a pirate, wizard, surfer and pharaoh as they steer LEGO-built vehicles like a rocket-powered windsurfing rig, a stylish scooter fueled by espresso and an ornately canopied bed (called a “litter”) carried by mummy servants.
VR Coaster’s patented technology syncs the virtual visuals created by Figment Productions with the coaster’s twists, turns, drops and climbs, creating a uniquely fun experience never seen before in a LEGOLAND park. The “Wild Mouse”-style roller coaster at LEGOLAND Florida Resort was manufactured by Germany’s MACK Rides and has been a favorite of guests since the theme park opened in 2011.
Nick Varney, chief executive officer of Merlin Entertainments, sees the attraction as a prime example of Merlin’s ongoing efforts to entertain guests around the world in new and innovative ways.
“Everybody that gets onto that ride will don the headset and basically find themselves suddenly immersed in the most amazing LEGO race that they’re participating in,” he said. “And if you can imagine if what is happening to you on the screen is suddenly also simultaneously happening to you as the roller coaster drops down a drop and goes over a hump, then you can imagine that is going to be one of the most exciting and exhilarating and fun experiences.”
Guests must be at least 42 inches tall (1.2m) to ride, or be accompanied by a responsible adult at least 48 inches tall. The VR headsets are designed to fit both adults and children, and can be adjusted for comfort. The VR experience is intended for children 6 and up, and guests can choose to ride without wearing the headset.

Big news for Walt Disney World guests who are planning on using Disney’s Magical Express during their next trip! We have just received confirmation from Disney that starting tomorrow (November 17, 2017) Disney’s Magical Express will begin picking up guests (for their transfers back to the Orlando Airport) from the Disney resorts 4 hours before their flight is scheduled to depart. This applies to both domestic and international flights.
Disney’s Magical Express currently picks up guests with domestic flights 3 hours prior to their scheduled flight time and 4 hours for international departures.
Disney has stated that currently this is a permanent change but it could be re-evaluated after the holidays and once construction is completed at the Orlando Airport.
Disney is reporting that the need to deliver guests earlier to the Orlando airport is due to longer wait times for the new, stronger screening procedures for carry-on items by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). The new procedure (implemented across the country) requires travelers to place all electronics larger than a cell phone in bins for X-ray screening in standard lanes. The new security measures do not apply to passengers enrolled in TSA Pre✓® who are using TSA Pre✓® lanes.
