Summit Cheerleading Championship is Coming to Walt Disney World This Weekend

Love them or hate them, the cheerleaders are coming to Walt Disney World! This weekend thousands of cheerleaders, parents, siblings, coaches, gym owners, and fans will be in town for the 2018 Summit Cheerleading Championship being held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Walt Disney World Resort. As a high school cheerleading coach myself, watching The Summit is one of the highlights of my year! I was lucky enough to have a local team going this year so I could be apart of the fun. The NY ICON team “VIPS” are going to be taking the mat this weekend to try and bring home some gold! To make it even sweeter, one of my cheerleaders, Celina, is performing.

Most teams stay at the All Star Sports Resort and use the center field for practice all hours of the day. This may be a place to avoid if you’re here on vacation. The good news is they will be so busy practicing and performing that the parks should be less crowded.

Summit Cheerleading Championship is Coming to Walt Disney World This Weekend

The goal of many all-star programs across the country is to get a bid to The Summit. Bringing home a win from Summit is one of the largest honors in the cheerleading world. The Summit is an annual event held by Varsity All Star Cheerleading division. It started back in 2013 and is typically held in late April every year. The competition includes youth, junior, and senior teams of all levels 1-5.

Pixar Pier is now serving up these amazing frosty parfaits! While Pixar Pier isn’t officially open yet at Disney California Adventure, the Adorable Snowman Frosted Treats stand is. Formerly known as the Paradise Pier Ice Cream Company, the Frosted Treats stand is now themed to Monsters Inc. The abominable and also adorable snowman from the popular Pixar movie has plenty of tasty frosted treats to choose from.

The ‘Pixar Pier Frosty Parfait’ is made with a non-dairy lemon soft serve that has a swirl of blue raspberry and topped with a cherry. It’s priced at $5.99. Baby Zebras Born At Animal Kingdom Park

Today, Disney’s Animal Kingdom is celebrating the births of two female Grevy’s zebra foals! Laylee was the first foal born on April 26th and Zuri was the second foal born on May 1st. The foals are both nursing and bonding with their mother backstage. Momma and babies will soon join the rest of the herd on Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail overlook soon.

Baby Zebras Born At Animal Kingdom Park

Originating from Africa, Grevy’s zebras are the most endangered species of zebra, with approximately 2,500 in the world. So as you can imagine, these zebra births mark another success for Disney’s animal care experts and the Species Survival Plan, a program through the Association of Zoos and Aquariums that helps ensure a diverse, healthy population of threatened and endangered species. These zebra foals are making an important contribution toward the worldwide conservation and understanding of the Grevy’s species, which will help ensure a future generation for these endangered animals.

Lucas Films, Star Wars, and Chewbacca challenge fans to raise $1 million for UNICEF. Chewbacca wants to see your best ROAR! Star Wars and Lucas Films announced today that Chewbacca is challenging fans to “Roar for Change” in hopes of raising up to $1 million dollars in support of UNICEF. This global challenge invited fans to share their own videos of Chewbacca’s famous roar. For each public post with the hashtag of #RoarForChange on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook between May 3^rd through the 25^th Star Wars Force the Change U.S. will donate $1 to UNICEF USA up to 1 million dollars.

Disney World’s Long-Running ‘Night of Joy’ Event Cancelled

Rumors had been circulating for a few weeks now that Disney’s World’s “Night of Joy” event would be coming to an end. Per several online sources reporting that a Disney spokesperson has confirmed today, we can confirm this is indeed the case.

“Night of Joy” was was a yearly Christian music festival held at Walt Disney World. Previous performers for the event included several big names in Christian music including Amy Grant, Casting Crowns, Kirk Franklin, and recently TobyMac.

“Night of Joy” began at the Magic Kingdom all the way back in 1983. Since then it has mostly been held at the Magic Kingdom with the exception of two years at Hollywood Studios and most recently, it was held at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports. Last year was the last year it was held and one of the nights was canceled due to Hurricane Irma.

Even with the cancelation of “Night of Joy”, Guests may still have the chance to catch their favorite Christian performers. MercyMe who has performed at several “Night of Joy” events has been added to the 2018 Eat to the Beat Concert Series lineup offered during Epcot’s Food & Wine Festival.

On the Best Chef’s Table list, Victoria & Albert’s inside Disney’s Grand Floridan Resort & Spa came in at number three
In the Best Place to Take Kids category, T-Rex Café at Disney Springs came in with top honors at number one
In the Best Seafood category, Paddlefish at Disney Springs also came in at number one
For the Best Southern Food category, Chet Art Smith’s Homecommin’ at Disney Springs was number three

Spring Artist Events at Downtown Disney District at Disneyland Resort

Downtown Disney District at the Disneyland Resort is putting together some fun and interactive artist and merchandise events this spring. Through May and June you can find the following events at the Downtown Disney District:

May 5^th, the WonderGround Gallery is welcoming new artists Neysa Bove, and Lorelay Bove. In addition, Leilani Joy will be returning to the gallery with the Bove’s to debut new art to Disney art fans. Visit from 11 am to 1 pm to meet and see the new exquisite works of art.

May 25^th, at The Disney Dress Shop Ashley Eckstein, will be signing her new book “It’s Your Universe” from 3-5pm and then again at the WonderGround Gallery from 6-8pm. The illustrator of the book, Ashley Taylor will also be joining the signing.

June 9^th, Artists Dave Perillo, Jerrod Maruyama, Joey Chou, and Mcbiff will be at the WonderGround Gallery from 2-4 pm while earlier in the day they will join Max Grundy at Ramones House of Body Art shop in Cars Land to preview their Disney Pixar “Cars” inspired art from 11 am – 1 pm.
