Off-Duty Disney Employee Fired for Carrying a Gun at Disney Springs

disney employee fired gun

An off-duty Disney employee was fired last month for carrying a concealed weapon at Disney Springs.

According to WFTV, Sam Martinez, a transportation foreman with Disney, was shopping with his wife at Disney Springs when he was approached by security and confronted about having a gun in his possession.  He states that the gun was concealed so he’s not sure how they knew he had it.

Initially when Martinez was approached by deputies and security officers he showed his concealed-carry permit and was then asked to leave the property.  However, after it was discovered he was a Disney employee things changed.

“(They said), ‘You can’t have that here, and you can’t be a Disney employee and be carrying. It’s against our policies,’” Martinez said. “Well, I had never been informed of that.”

Martinez was suspended from work for 19 days and upon his return was immediately let go.

While the policy regarding handguns, and other weapons, at Disney theme parks is very clear – and there are metal detectors and security at every entrance – Martinez says that there was no signage alerting him that he could not have a weapon on him at Disney Springs.

Martinez is claiming that Disney had no right to terminate his employment and that his firing is unfounded.

“It’s a Second Amendment right for me to carry legally,” Martinez said. “I did everything legally and now it’s almost like I’m being punished for it.”

Since his termination he has learned that it is against Disney policy for any employee, on or off-duty, to carry a weapon on property. Martinez states that had he known that, he would have made a different decision that day in regards to his gun.

Disney has declined to issue a statement on Martinez’s termination, stating that it is a personnel matter.

Holiday Sweets at Disney Springs Will Have You Feeling Festive

Holiday Sweets at Disney Springs Will Have You Feeling Festive

Disney Springs is pulling out all the stops this holiday season.  From an extended Christmas Tree Trail to Santa’s Chalet to beautiful decorations throughout the town you’ll definitely want to stop in and see all they have to offer.  But if none of that grabs your attentions, I’m pretty sure the holiday sweets will!  And there is something for everyone throughout Disney Springs.

Holiday Sweets at Disney Springs Will Have You Feeling Festive

The chocolatiers at The Ganachery have found their holiday spirit with festive chocolate creations. Assorted ganache squares are a favorite with new seasonal eggnog and peppermint flavors and holiday packaging pretty enough for gifting.

Holiday Sweets at Disney Springs Will Have You Feeling Festive

The Ganachery is also offering chocolate-covered stollen bread, gingerbread s’mores, chocolate-covered gingerbread marshmallows and hot sipping chocolate. And the beautiful chocolate holiday trees with several layers of chocolate decorated with crispy pearl ornaments and powdered sugar are sure to make you feel merry!

Holiday Sweets at Disney Springs Will Have You Feeling Festive

Over at Amorette’s Patisserie, you’ll find a variety of items such as holiday mini-dome cakes. Try the Santa Mickey, Ornament or Candle holiday cakes.  You can even get a full-sized Santa Mickey cake to add a touch of Disney to you holiday celebrations. And for the Disney Springs shoppers, there are cute high heel- and shopping bag-shaped gingerbread cookies!

Holiday Sweets at Disney Springs Will Have You Feeling Festive

And we’ve mentioned it before, but the Peppermint Macaron is a must-have this holiday season.  The chocolate flavored filling is perfect with the peppermint flavored discs!  And while you can mix and match them with other Amorette’s Patisserie macaron flavors, you’ll probably want a whole box of just peppermint – trust me!

Holiday Sweets at Disney Springs Will Have You Feeling Festive

And don’t forget to head over to  Goofy’s Candy Company or Disney’s Candy Cauldron for some holiday gourmet apples. These apples are themed after some of your favorite characters, including Mickey, Minnie, Olaf and Sandy Claws! Dipped in chocolate and decorated with sugar, marshmallows and icing. I’ll take one of each please!

Olaf’s Frozen Adventure is coming to ABC!

Olaf's Frozen Adventure is coming to ABC!

Olaf’s Frozen Adventure will make its broadcast television debut as part of Disney ABC Television Group’s “25 Days of Christmas” celebration this Thursday, December 14 at 8:00 pm EST. We recently had shared with you it looked like Olaf’s Frozen Adventure would soon discontinue running in front of the popular Pixar’s Coco. The 22-minute short Frozen short concluded yesterday in theaters.

For those of us who enjoy watching Disney from the comfort of our living room, you will definitely want to tune in Thursday evening. Following Olaf’s Frozen Adventure, will be Disney Animation’s Emmy Award-winning holiday special Prep & Landing airing from 8:30-9:00 p.m EST. Not a bad way to spend a holiday season evening.

Olaf's Frozen Adventure is coming to ABC!

In Olaf’s Frozen Adventure, Olaf (voice of Josh Gad) teams up with Sven on a merry mission. It’s the first holiday season since the gates reopened and Anna (voice of Kristen Bell) and Elsa (voice of Idina Menzel) host a celebration for all of Arendelle. When the townspeople unexpectedly leave early to enjoy their individual holiday customs, the sisters realize they have no family traditions of their own. So, Olaf sets out to comb the kingdom to bring home the best traditions and save Anna and Elsa’s “first Christmas in forever.”

Hong Kong Disneyland Castle To Undergo Major Transformation

Hong Kong Disneyland Castle

It looks like Disney is giving us a bonus surprise with their “12 Days of Disney Parks Christmas” announcements today. In our previous article, we told you about Hong Kong Disneyland’s multi-year expansion plan over the next 6 years. It now looks like the iconic centerpiece of the park will soon be reimagined and undergo a transformation, the first-of-its-kind at any Disney park.

The new castle will find inspiration from many different Disney princesses including special finial decorations on the spires such as Snow White’s apple, Cinderella’s coach, and Belle’s rose. It will also feature new thematic spires, domes, and a design that almost touches the heavens! It will also boast new original artwork and unique sculptures that will add to the magic and fantasy.

When visiting the new castle, guests will have the chance to meet Disney princesses and even undergo their own magical transformation at the all-new Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. The castle will also be the perfect backdrop to the new daytime show and nighttime spectacular coming to the park.

Work on the castle will begin after the finale of the “Disney in the Stars” fireworks on January 1, and the expansion plan will continue to bring new entertainment to the park almost every year through 2023.

More Photos and Details for Disney World’s New Disney Skyliner Released

More Photos and Details for Disney World's New Disney Skyliner Released

Speculation had been swirling for months that Walt Disney World would be adding a gondola-style transportation system. So, when Disney confirmed the news earlier that this new type of transportation system would indeed be built, we were so excited and couldn’t wait for more details! Well, for the Fourth Day of Disney Parks Christmas, Disney is giving us just what we want: Additional details on the Disney Skyliner and even some photos!

More Photos and Details for Disney World's New Disney Skyliner Released

Select Disney Skyliner cabins will have iconic Disney characters incorporated into their exterior design to give the appearance that a Disney pal is riding along with guests, such as characters from the ‘Fab Five,’ figures from Disney attractions, fan favorites from movies, and more.

The design of the Disney Skyliner station at International Gateway at Epcot will be inspired by the park’s nearby European Pavilions, and will be covered with metal and glass canopies, hand-painted murals and ornamental steel structures that harken back to the early 18th century Art Nouveau style. Guests traveling to Epcot via the Disney Skyliner will be welcomed to the park with a rare birds-eye view of World Showcase.

The Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort station will be the hub of activity for Disney Skyliner. This station is inspired by the open air village marketplaces of the Caribbean and will showcase the nearby resort’s architectural detailing and color schemes. At this station, passengers will be able to transfer gondola routes to reach their destination, or are invited to sit and admire the waterfront resort setting

The design style of the station at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will fit with that of the park’s main entrance and bus stations. Passengers traveling here from the Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort station can expect a new aerial perspective of the park’s iconic attractions, like The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.

Disney’s Pop Century Resort and Disney’s Art of Animation Resort will share a Disney Skyliner station that feels whimsical and contextual with both resorts. Upon departing the gondola station, Skyliner passengers will ascend over Hourglass Lake and enjoy a panoramic view of these two colorful resorts.

Finally, cabins will slow down at the Disney Skyliner turn-station along Buena Vista Drive, where guests can see the mechanical and aerial components that make up the Disney Skyliner.

While construction on the Disney Skyliner is underway, an official opening date has not been announced. Keep following along right here with Chip & Co as we will be first to bring you the news!

Marvel To Launch New Animation Franchise Dubbed ‘Marvel Rising’

Marvel To Launch New Animation Franchise Dubbed 'Marvel Rising'

We are pleased to announce that Marvel has just released details regarding a new animation franchise dubbed ‘Marvel Rising’ which will consist of an upcoming feature-length film as well as 6 4-minute Digital Shorts that will be launched shortly.   The voice cast recruited for this exciting project include Dove Cameron, Chloe Bennet, Tyler Poser, Kim Raver and BooBoo Stewart just to name a few.

Meet the characters and all-star voice actors behind the project in this exciting new video released by Marvel:

“Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors” will bring together Marvel’s newest and beloved characters that have garnered a massive fan following over the last few years.  The characters featured include Ms Marvel, Squirrel Girl, Quake, Patriot, America Chavez, Inferno and of course Ghost-Spider which is voiced by Dove Cameron.

When a treat no one could have expected bears down on the Marvel Universe, this untrained band of teens must rise together and prove to the world that the difference between “hero” and “misfit” is all in the name.

Sana Amant, Marvel’s Direct of Content and Character Development had this to say of the new franchise, ““This project is unlike anything we’ve done before—from featuring the rising and fan-favorite stars of the Marvel Universe, to a visually distinct animation style, this is a groundbreaking animated event. It’s an action-packed adventure, full of comedy, heart and powerful messages for every kind of Marvel fan.”

For more information on “Marvel Rising” visit www.Facebook.com/MarvelRisingwww.Twitter.com/MarvelRisingSW, and www.Instagram.com/MarvelRising.
